I didn't miss a class!
One hopes that the publisher of an application would make the best author for it,and while that is not always the case, this one did not disappoint.This book assumes no prior knowledge and walks the reader meticulously through all the features of Acrobat Standard and Professional for both Windows and OS X.
Very nice book
It is a comprehensive step by step book. I liked the fact that it also included alternative instructions for the instances when a Mac would have different commands.

Good book, but not at all if you prepare for the exam
The book was overall a good book with all what you need to know about Adobe Acrobat. I am preparing for the exam and the book does not cover 75% of the test. Unfortunately Adobe did not think of this and decided to make it very hard for us. Microsoft on the other hand has many books that cover the topics for their exams. Huges Help with Acorbat 7.0
I have been using Acrobat for projects since version 3.0.I've also bought a number of books on all these versions.This particular book is one of the best because it gives a specific problem or situation and then gives you specific instructions.No generalizations, just instructions.I found this approach very helpful with a last minute project and can see where it would have so many useful applications.Even for an experienced user of Acrobat, I found lots of nifty shortcuts that will make my Acrobat life better.

Not for the Beginner, Very Helpful for the Novice
Adobe Acrobat is a powerful program, capable of many things. In this book 150 of the best of thest tips and tricks are described in clear and easy language and illustrations using primarily screen shots that clearly show what should be done.

A Comprehensive Disappointment
I don't know what's going on with this book.The prime difference between version 6 and version 7 is the inclusion of Adobe Lifecycle Designer.This book says virtually nothing on such an important area.It does little to address database connections.
Useless for Designer Forms
I bought this specifically for information about using the new LiveCycle Designer application that comes with Acrobat Professional to create interactive PDF forms. All of the information in this book (Chapters 26-29) is wrong about that app--none of the dialog boxes match, or are even close, and the program doesn't work the way it's described. I'm guessing that Adobe changed it after the book was written.

The Childrens Bible
A bible for the inexperienced with acrobat.. If you have never opened up the program, than I could see how this might be considered a bible.Just like any childrens bible is compared to a regular bible.

Helped me polish my expertise
I knew enough to do the basics, but not enough to take full advantage of the program.The book is a very helpful desk reference.I am not a professional, but I do make documents in publisher and work, as well as a few things in adobe illustrator.Now I know some tricks of the trade, and wondered why I never bought this earlier!Thanks.

I got this book for my brother, who just bought Acrobat 7 Professional to create fillable forms with special functions. He tried and tried to do what he wanted, but until I gave him this book, he wasn't able to figure out how to do what he wanted to. This book had the specific information that taught him how to do what he wanted. I was amazed, because he even downloaded a huge amount of information from Adobe's Web site in his search for the right info. and couldn't get what he needed.
Not for Macs
This is not a bad book, but it's mistitled. It should be "How to Do Everything with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 for Windows." It ignores nearly all differences in the program and procedures for the Mac version, and nowhere does it warn you of this. Hello? Anyone home? ... Read more

Sucker born every day & 2 to take him
The title is completely misleading.
Contains very useful tips and tricks for PDF users
This is a very comprehensive solutions catalog on all kinds of PDF related issues.Each trick is described with step-by-step instructions and contains pointers to relevant resources.The chapter listing categorizes the hacks - Consuming PDF, Managing a Collection, Authoring and Self-Publishing, Creating PDF and Other Editions, Manipulating PDF files, Dynamic PDF, Scripting and Programming Acrobat.
I could have used this book on several occassions
With PDF files everywhere from web sites to help files, sooner or later you will run into a situation where you need to do something to a PDF file.For me the first time I realized I needed to do something I could not was when I needed to take one and convert it to a Word format so I could quickly outline the high points to study for a certification exam.After several hours I finally got it into a text file thanks to a web site that did the conversion.But even then I lost the tables, illustrations, etc.How to do that is one of the hacks included in this book.I wish it were printed a few years ago because it would have made my life easier.

A good reference for basic techniques
I was looking for some more advanced features than were offered, but it looks like it will be helpful to me moving forward.I build alot of forms in Adobe Acrobat.If you have never done javascript in Acrobat, or have intermediate knowledge, it may be a helpfull book for you.

Great Book!
I love this book! I am a professional graphic designer that does not know how to write any JavaScript. I just wanted to be able to create more dynamic pdf files. The author did a great job explaining the JavaScript used in this book in a way that non programmers can grasp!
A Great Step for Javascript Beginners
I have been making forms in Acrobat since version 3.0, and have a background in Dbase III, Foxpro, Visual Basic .NET, and SQL 2000. However, I never learned Javascript formally or in-depth.

Acrobat made easy
Set out in steps that are easy to follow. Learn how to insert links to other pages, make better use of multimedia content, and add security to your important documents and articles. Acrobat is a very flexible programme and this book makes it easy to learn with clear instructions. Well worth the money.

This superbly crafted book is unrivaled as an intro and overview to Acrobat 7. It belongs on everyone's bookshelf who desires a rapid understanding and working knowledge of the product destined to play an important part in Internet communication and collaboration. Shari's writing is light, crystal clear and her topic organizational skills are exceptional bordering on the extraordinary. I can think of no other book where I learned so painlessly so much about a complex software package while simultaneously acquiring an 80 part essential skill set. Adobe does Acrobat customers an injustice by not including "Adobe Acrobat 7 in a Snap" in their retail package. At approximately $13 (Amazon Price) this book is a steal; I suggest you steal it.

Highly recommended!
This book was excellent and very informative.Mr. Young impeccably explains how to use PDFs to achieve the desired results of your product.I've often been confused on how to precisly use various PDF products, but with this book, I can now design my product the way I want it to look.This book is definitely a "must read"!

Best PDF Book I've Seen
I'm one of those people who buys every software book on the market. I've looked at lots of books on PDF. This is the best yet. It's practical and tells me how to avoid making the most common mistakes in creating a PDF. I wish the rest of my colleagues would read this.

Tells You Just What You Need to Know
More and more courts are allowing, if not requiring, that documents of all type be presented in electronic format either in addition to or in some cases instead of on paper. There are unquestionably a lot of lawyers who will assign the task of producing the electronic document to a secretary. But this is kind of like having a lawyer these days who can't use a PC - there probably are some, but they are getting fewer and fewer.

Beware -
This book is horribly outdated!If you have Acrobat 5, - fine. Or maybe not so fine... use the money you would have spent on this book and upgrade to the current Adobe version: Acrobat 7 as of Sept 2006.
Not Acrobat 6.0!
I wish I had known that this was not going to cover Acrobat 6.The current version of acrobat does forms completely different than version 5.This is a dinosaur now.

This book is a real gem
This users guide is full of "real-world" tips and advice. I found the hands-on tutorials and projects to be particularly useful. With a friendly conversational tone and easy to understand language, all the major aspects of Acrobat 6 are covered. I will use this book for a handy and valuable reference.

Mac users
There seems to be little or no reference to the Mac. A program like Acrobat is a staple in the graphics and publishing industry, as is the Mac. Keep your whole audience in mind.

Required if you use Acrobat 6!
Whether you are new to Acrobat 6 or are a seasoned PDF professional, this book is a must-have!There is a great balance of technical information, screen shots, tutorials, exercises, charts and even a bit of humor that make this an enjoyable & educational read.I've read it cover-to-cover, but this book can also be used as a quick reference for a specific problem or topic (which I still continue to do for various PDF related projects). The "Note" and "Tips" sidebars are especially helpful as are the chapters on Collaboration, Indexing and Security.This book also revealed many unknown features of Acrobat and explained these thoroughly.Bottom line: if you do more than open up PDF files, then get this book! ... Incomplete and difficult to use.
This is not the book one wants to learn Adobe Acrobat. The authors assume anyone using the book is already an expert in using Acrobat. The glossary is totally inadequate so that many of the terms used by the authors are greek to users. I have been in computers for over 40 years and this one of worst manuals I have ever seen. I bought another book which was of more help but still was not comprehensive enough. Great Beginners Guide to Adobe Acrobat 4.0
This is a great book for beginners to get the basics on what this product's capabilities.I never realized that Adobe Acrobat can do so many things!If you need to learn this product quickly, this is the book to get.As you advanced in your abilities with this product, then other books would be more beneficial.

A First Book when your in a hurry.
A good "Get your feet wet" book for first time form developers.I read/scanned it in one night as I was looking for more of a "command line reference" (does my DOS programming background show?) where each topic/feature was covered in depth.I have a need to develop semi-complex java scripts forms with auto fill features for a production environment, but the needed support and answers were not here.I do not mean to knock the book as it is well written and has a good walk through methodology, but it is not a fallback "reference" book when you are in over your head in the creation process. ...
