5-0 out of 5 stars Lives up to its title
It's easy to come up with seductive titles for image editing books, purporting to help you "Master" the topic or offer a "missing" manual. But when you get right down to it, most of the books just offer the same old basic information. 5-0 out of 5 stars Top of the bill !!
As a "collectionner" of the best Photoshop books on the market I must recommend this excellent book from Richard Lynch to all the digital photographers among us.Other reviewers explained the content of the book in detail so I won't do the same,I can only agree their comments! 4-0 out of 5 stars Power at a bargain price
If you are already comfortable with Elements 4, but feel a little frustrated by the lack of a number of tools of its bigger brother, this is for you. I bought it for the tools: I discovered the book is full of invaluable advice. Workflow, separations, masking... The combination of Elements 4 with the book and tools covers all my expectations for a dedicated amateur. And yes, I like shooting raw, taking advantage of 16 bits, black and white... and I have still much too learn from the book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME BOOK!!!!!!!!!
This book is fabulous. I have a lot of books regarding photoshop, this one is at the top of the list. It's simply laid out, has exact description of what to put in the various dialogues, and covers a range of amazing effects which are beyond useful. If you are looking to extend your quiver of tricks & kicks - don't hesitate, you will not be dissappointed....

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book
Great book if you want to know how to create the effects that pros use everyday. There are basic turorials and there are advanced tutorials. Each and every tutorial is very easy to read, easy to follow, and easy to understand. Once you go over the tuturial a few times, you will never forget it. Kelby does a great job with the illustrations and the step-by-step process to accomplish the final result. I recommend this book to both beginners professionals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank God Somone's Listening!!
Tired of the usual "Blah, Blah, Blah" in computer books? FINALLY - somone is listening to the needs of graphics professionals and students wanting to learn tips and tricks for doing these effects and animations! Foster not only shows you HOW to do these techniques, but more importantly, WHY! I have found this book indespensible in my advancement way beyond the basic tools and functional training of other After Effects books. If you want to learn animation or do any kind of special effects on your own, then get this book NOW!

5-0 out of 5 stars extremely useful
have bought many books on after effect and photoshop.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not for the complete beginner...
I have to say that you MUST need a solid undertanding or at least the basics of After Effects before getting this book. Also, there are not many figures to ilustrate the projects in an easy way.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Beginners
Photoshop CS2 Workflow: The Digital Photographer's Guide is the best Photoshop primer I've ever read. The author works through image adjustments in a very logical progression. He begins with very simple edits and works his up to more complex fine tuning. The instructions are both step-by-step and very clear. He also does an excellent job of explaining the "big picture" of why you want to make these adjustments and does not just turn you into a mouse clicker following steps by rote.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, but pretty good
This wasn't exactly what I expected:There's no discussion of VersionCue, versioning and naming in general, or color managment.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best most helpful guide I own
I am teaching a beginning Photoshop class to adults, and bought this book to help me with my lesson plans.I have been mightily impressed.I have used Photoshop daily in my work since Photoshop 5, and am learning MANY new basic techniques that somehow have escaped my attention until now. I will not only save time, but improve my output with what I have learned from this book! His writing is very clear, and is also interesting to read.I have recommended it to my students, and am incredibly glad I found it before my teaching began! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Adobe Photoshop CS2
Jack Davis not only delivers incredibly useful and creative ideas for us, but translates the moves into steps easy enough for a newbie to follow and acheive great results, but witty and interesting enough for us old pros out here to stay interested and intrigued. He delivers the most useful set of actions, styles and patterns I've seen to date on the CD. Buy the book. You'll be doing yourself a favor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Add This One-Click-WOW! Book to Your Digital Art Library
If you haven't added one of Jack Davis' WOW! books to your digital art library, you should consider the latest One-Click-WOW! for Photoshop CS2. It's packed with preset styles and effects for every task you might have. What is a preset? Basically, it is a special effect or group of effects (style), such as a drop shadow, that already has the options set for you. After you install the presets from the CD, they will appear with the other presets in the Styles Palette. All you need to do is apply these ready-made presets to your image. In his WOW-Styles Tutorial which is included in the book, Davis gives you all the information you need to apply and customize the 900+ presets in Adobe Photoshop and ImageReady. He explains the mystery of using layers and clipping masks, changing the resolution, brush size and scale of the presets as well as how to customize the WOW! presets and save the changes as a new style to your own Styles Library.

4-0 out of 5 stars easy to follow examples (but the creativity is not included)
a serie of examples with easy and fast results, even if not all for "dummies". Do not ask why Photoshop works but just use it!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have!
I have recently begun using Photoshop and at first just tried "feeling" my way through it.That didn't work. Then I tried using articles I found in magazines and off the internet. That was a little better but still didn't get me where I wanted to be.Then I decided to get a book to help me.On more than one photography forum this book was recommended. Now that I have it I see why.

5-0 out of 5 stars Way more than just another InDesign book
I give this book five stars because:
5-0 out of 5 stars STUNNING.
I bought this book thinking that it would be a simple guide to the typographical controls within InDesign CS2. It IS that, certainly enough, but it surprised me no end by being one of the best books I have (and I have a LOT) on thinking with type, using type correctly, and how to be a better designer through type usage. Even if you DON'T have InDesign, there is a tremendous amount of knowledge to be assimilated here on the finer points of good typography. An excellent resource, worth twice its price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Typography Masters In a Book
One of the greatest educational and instructional books I've read since Indesign One on One. This book literally teaches you the good, the bad, and the ugly of typography using Indesign.

Editorial Review

Setting up a Web site ranks among the most deceptively simple tasks in all of computerdom. At the end of the day, you just edit documents (and who hasn't done that before?). Even HTML, the underlying language of Web pages, is pretty easy to understand. But once the creation process gets underway, it becomes apparent that HTML coding is tedious, and that page designers often spend hours figuring out tiny layout details. Adobe GoLive CS is meant to ease and automate the process of creating and maintaining sites, and Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for Beginners
I am a technician by trade, but I am very new to the web building world. The last time I attempted to build a web page was when c-tags were in style. When I bought this book I knew almost nothing about GoLive CS.I have now completed most of the lessons in the book and I will say I was hard-pressedto find any errors.Trust me, I know error proned books (i.e.CCNA).This book is perfect for a beginner and will lead one by the hand. The lesson material on the CD uses good examples. The book is far from exhaustive, but it will get one started. There is a whole lot in GoLive that is left to explore. After reading the book I have been able to build a good sized web site with many pages, and with many different styles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential tool to get started with GoLive
One thing GoLive is not and that is intuitive. This book starts you off with a hands on approach and after a time it starts to make sense. I used it methodically and did not find any mistakes mentioned in the other reviews - it helps to use one's head and guess where one overlooked, or mis-understood an instruction as the program is very fiddly. Highly recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars Overall, a good introduction to GoLive
***This review is for the Revised Edition*** (FYI, I use the Mac version) Firstly, I have completed the whole book and have NOT found it to filled with errors. There are a couple of areas (specifically I think it was 3) where I had to do a double take and make sure I was following the directions as I was supposed to. Some confusion comes in because the names of some of the palattes are very similar to the names of the work screens, so you need to pay attention if the directions say "Click on the navigation palatte" or "Click on the navigation screen." At a couple points in the tutorial, it got a bit confusing, however it was nothing I could not figure out with some careful reading. It is not a complete reference on GoLive, as I feel I just scratched the surface with the text so far. I would recomemend this book to others basically because there is no other text to learn from. However I would like a more complete exhaustive text that goes deeper into GoLive. One thing I do fault the book for is not having a brief chapter of summary actions like "To fix orphaned files...do the following.."and then list them. There is no summary page or chapter on commands, icons and what they mean. I find myself knowing what I want to do, however I have to look it up to find out detailed instructions on how to do it. Like I said, overall, not a bad book, especially because there isn't anything else out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Taking a Simpler Step
I had worked with other editing softwares in the past so when I got Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 in the mail I was ready to start working! Then I realized this software had so much more to offer so I went to the manual and starting reading. By about the middle of it I thought I would never learn it. The manual was all over the place and didn't explain anything in human terms so I went online and found this book "for dummies" and I would seriously recommend this book to everyone. It takes the software and breaks it down in laymens terms with even sarcastic breaks for the long time reader. It was informative and witty.I use it as the Premiere bible and it sits right next to the computer the whole time I'm working. It also offers helpful hints on how to angle the camera and the proper equipment to have. It's freaking awesome and if you made it all the way to the end of this review..you have to get it. It's worth the money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Basics, Poor Examples
As does the entire "Dummy" series, this book takes things from a very basic level and assumes little or nothing in the way of prior knowledge. It does an excellent job of explaining concepts and giving an overview of the Premier Pro software. After that, it falls short. The examples are very general and no disk is provided for tutorials. This lack of examples and of real tutorials makes learning the software, at least for me, more difficult. There were time when I thought I was following along correctly only to later learn that was not the case. If I had real examples to which I could compare my work, I would have gotten a lot further.
4-0 out of 5 stars Mostly retread of earlier versions but still good...
I bought Adobe Premiere for Dummies for version 6.5 and was able to quickly master the basics covered in the book, then within a few months, I upgraded to Premiere Pro. I also purchased the Premiere Pro for Dummies book to get a good primer.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive Disappointment
I don't know what's going on with this book. The prime difference between version 6 and version 7 is the inclusion of Adobe Lifecycle Designer. This book says virtually nothing on such an important area.It does little to address database connections.
1-0 out of 5 stars Useless for Designer Forms
I bought this specifically for information about using the new LiveCycle Designer application that comes with Acrobat Professional to create interactive PDF forms. All of the information in this book (Chapters 26-29) is wrong about that app--none of the dialog boxes match, or are even close, and the program doesn't work the way it's described. I'm guessing that Adobe changed it after the book was written.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Childrens Bible
A bible for the inexperienced with acrobat.. If you have never opened up the program, than I could see how this might be considered a bible.Just like any childrens bible is compared to a regular bible.

1-0 out of 5 stars Basic mumbo jumbo
I was excited to receive this book - I love learning about how other users master the techniques of Photoshop. Boy was I disappointed! I've seen these illustrations before - rehashed and rehashed - and if you're using Photoshop CS or CS2, don't waste your time. If you're still working with Photoshop 4 and have never done a collage, I guess you should buy this book. although you'll learn more on Adobe's tutorial website than you'll learn from this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars it's ok
The book is not bad ,but the sample is too simple...but it has detailed walkthroughs of the creation ..so maybe it's very useful for the people who just begin to learning photoshop.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, Fast and to the Point
After trying several self-help books on the Adobe Photshop 7.0, including Photoshop 7 for Dummies, a friend recommended this title, which is the official training workbook from Adobe Systems, Inc. The title was being used as a textbook in his college graphic class and he found it to be in logical sequence and with an easy to understand format. If you are a not-every-day user of the program and want to learn specific techniques to enhance or modify your photographs - this book is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars A computer novice can be an expert with this book.
I have been doing photo editing for some time now, mostly for my mothers scrap booking. She decided that she wanted to fix photos herself so she signed up for a class. She barley knew how to use the mouse and press the button to turn the computer on.This book has taught her how to not only run the program but also how windows and Macintosh work. This book teaches step by step through multiple lessons, and has instructions for both Windows and Mac users.I recommend this book to students and those wanting to know how to do image editing.I taught myself how to restore and edit photos and have been doing it for 3 years, and I have learned things from this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Classroom in a book
I am really enjoying Photoshop 7 Classroom in a book.I have been a photoshop user for a few years, but learned it by the seat of my pants and had a few "holes."I've filled in the holes and learned new tricks along the way to make me more creative and productive.Amazon service is great, too -- fast and free shipping. You can't beat that! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
This book is a must have for any digital nature photographer. Great step by step how to's and very well laid out.

2-0 out of 5 stars So-So - Not the Best Book.
I am not sure what part Tim Grey plays in creating this book but if you are purchasing the book do it because of what Ellen Anon is contributing to the book.I Think Tim Grey is a fantastic Photoshop and P.C. Guru - and a great writer in his element. If Tim contributed to the Photoshop techniques of this book that is good.He is not a fantastic nature photographer.Leave the nature photos to the likes of John Shaw and George Lepp (Tim knows both of these nature photographers), etc.Tim Grey has some great books out - Color Confidence and Photoshop CS2 are two of them.Buy those two books before this one if you want some of Tim's best writings on Photoshop.Photo Finish is another book that Tim Grey co-authored and it also a So-so book. There are tons of good Photoshop books. If you need a starter try the Adobe Photoshop Classroom in A Book series for whichever version of Photoshop you are using. Use the Adobe Photoshop Tutorials on their web site - they are great and free. Print these tutorial out in color and put them in a binder and you have a great Photoshop book with little or no cost to you. John Shaw has an excellent e-book, "John Shaw's Photoshop Field Guide", about 208 pages.A great source for nature photographers with some Photoshop experience. No 'down-&-dirty' tricks in his e-book.It is straight forward Photoshop information for a nature photographer of all levels of experience. It does not cover Photshop CS2 but you can figure everything out.Cost is $30 US.http://www.johnshawphoto.com/ebook.htm.Two other books to consider if you don't already have them are Adobe Photoshop, by David Blatner & Bruce Fraser and Digital Photography, by Eismann (a great photographer & writer), Duggan, and Tim Grey. (since Grey is at the end of the line here I can only assume his part is small in this book).Purchase some of these other books before spending money on Photoshop For Nature Photographers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage and easy to read
I should be clear up front - I'm lucky enough to know Ellen and Tim personally but that has no impact on my thoughts about this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Photoshop Restoration and Retouching
Very detail lessons. Not for the Photoshop novice. A good working knowledge of Photoshop is needed. Excellent learning tool for those interested in all aspects of photo restoration and retouching.

5-0 out of 5 stars Katrin Eismann is a great teacher
I've read her other book on compositing and all I can say is I love her style of teaching! It's inspiring and not canned at all. She doesn't teach you to just dial in numbers, but instead she focuses on the concepts so that you can then decide what numbers you need by yourself!
5-0 out of 5 stars Welcome update for a classic guidebook

5-0 out of 5 stars Great recipes, easy steps, wonderful results.
This book puts you on the fast track to grafting the styles of famous artists into your own work through more than five dozen easy-to-follow recipes. Not surprisingly, you'll find yourself learning more than you originally expected to about Photoshop.

2-0 out of 5 stars not-so-fast ...
Earlier this year I reviewed what many will see as the companion volume to this book ("Photoshop Blending Modes Cookbook for Digital Photographers"), written by the same author. Unfortunately, the newer publication is less useful. It seems to have been written on a pretext that it's clever to be able to duplicate what traditional artists can do. This seems - from my own personal viewpoint - to be greatly undervaluing the power of Photoshop (and similar software). Practitioners of digital fine art should (really, constructively) be looking to explore what the principles of prior and traditional art can mean within a new domain.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Wonderful effects for the artistically inclined. The recipes in this book truly are easy to reproduce. You can apply these techniques to any of your digital photos. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me polish my expertise
I knew enough to do the basics, but not enough to take full advantage of the program. The book is a very helpful desk reference.I am not a professional, but I do make documents in publisher and work, as well as a few things in adobe illustrator. Now I know some tricks of the trade, and wondered why I never bought this earlier! Thanks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Has info. not available elsewhere.
I got this book for my brother, who just bought Acrobat 7 Professional to create fillable forms with special functions. He tried and tried to do what he wanted, but until I gave him this book, he wasn't able to figure out how to do what he wanted to. This book had the specific information that taught him how to do what he wanted. I was amazed, because he even downloaded a huge amount of information from Adobe's Web site in his search for the right info. and couldn't get what he needed.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not for Macs
This is not a bad book, but it's mistitled. It should be "How to Do Everything with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 for Windows." It ignores nearly all differences in the program and procedures for the Mac version, and nowhere does it warn you of this. Hello? Anyone home? ... Read more
