An Excellent choice
I would really recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn JAVA Wireless.The authors really explain the architecture of J2ME really well and better then the average book on J2ME.They have a good chapter on VXML, WML, and WMLSRIPT. You need to be an experienced developer to read this book.

Want to add Wireless Java skills to your resume?
Just got this book and have read most of it. Finally a Wireless Java book that talks about something more than J2ME! The campus portal app is a nice touch and ties all of the previous discussions together. Great fluff-free chapters on MIDP, Web Services, and VoiceXML. I also liked the underlying theme of tying everything together with J2EE.

I always recommend reading the book by the inventor/creator of the language. That goes for C++ (Stroustrup), Java (Gosling), and C (Ritchie).This book is no exception. Warning: it is a bit dry at times.It is heavily cross-referenced. The backcover is invaluable as a reference. Good for language implementors, bad for others

This book is a fantastic resource for those who are just entering into Wireless Application Protocol. Not a good book
This is a very jargon-based book. The author likes to use symbols or what so called algebra representation for many of the mathematic terming particularly in matrix representation. This make the book not worthy to buy. Author should use number in mathematic representations rather algebra so that readers can have quick grasp over the topics, but the author didn't. Most often time you have to imagine yourself what are the 'pictures' that the author tries to tell you.
A terrible textbook!
This is a very terrible text book. Don't ever look at this book if you are a newbie in OpenGL, trigonometry, calculus, linear algebra and the mathematic's dot product. I think this book is suitable only for the University which the author is lecturing in. My university is using this book as the core text book of the computer graphic course, the end result is that almost 95% of the student cannot code well using OpenGL by following guidance of this book, where everyone is looking for coding and references from Internet just for the assignment, how annoy it is. Further, the lecturer also cannot understand the book's content, they lecture only by using the powerpoint slaid which is from the author himself, which make the situation worst.
Why this book is used for an Intro Class is beyond me.
Dont buy this book if you are wanting to lern how to program openGL. Buy it if you know openGL and want to learn how it works.

Interesting book for Windows/MFC programming professionals
Not suitable for MFC begginers, but very good and informative book for professionals. It is writen in very good manner - it is easy to read and understand even complex topics Great book for MFC.
This book is the best book for MFC and what it does inside. This is not anintroductory book and if you are new to MFC you'd be better served byreading Kruglinki's Programming Visual C++.

Great book
As someone stated, you'll find info in here that no other book has.Also - what's up with that retard who gave the book 1 star because it wasn's shipped on time?Some people should just get a clue, and stay as away from technology altogether.

amazing book
I own 6 MFC books, and out of all of them, Professional MFC with Visual Studio 6 is by far the most complete.When I wanted to look up a subject I was having trouble with, I used to have to flip through a few of my books before I found a decent section covering the topic, if I even did.Since I bought this book however, I just look in it and the rest of the books have been gathering dust on my floor.I'd highly recommend it. Expertise nonwithstanding, however, the book suffers and ultimately fails for two reasons: poor writing infused with distracting try-too-hard humor, and an index that's so far off in the weeds as to be utterly useless. This is a "must read" for people programming or interested in programming apps for the palm.
Indispensable
I've been a programmer for 10 years but was new to the Palm OS development environment when I bought this book.It shaved weeks off of my development time.While there is a huge amount of free Palm OS development information online, the online information is geared towards those that are already experienced in the field.There is a paucity of comprehensive, introductory information.This book serves that function excellently.Each topic is introduced in a very understandable manner, while also being discussed in great depth.When embarking on a new area of Palm Programming, this is a great place to start.

Very Good

Very goof book for starters
If you know very little about the technical aspects of file formats, and you want to write your own applications, then this is the book you are looking for. Rating correction
Not helpful that the author reviews his own book and gives himself 5 stars! Before he did so, the average rating was 3.33 stars. Afterwards it became 3.75 stars. My rating aims to rectify matters. I have not, however, read the book.

I thought I would respond to the negative comment regarding JFIF files. As the reader points out, the sample source code on the CD checks for the JFIF header. This reason for this is to be an educational excercise in file formats. As the reader points out, this causes the source code not to work with JPEG files from digital cameras that do not use the JFIF format. The difference between these formats is simply the use of APPn markers (essentially comments).Read more

The worst usability book ever...
I truly cannot recommend this book to anybody who has any knowledge about UI design. Not even if you don't have experience in designing for handheld devices. This book has nothing to offer for you. If you are just starting to study usability, there are far better books out there.
Was helpful for my final year dissertation
This was the only book specific to handheld/mobile devices that discussed usability testing. Essential
Zipf's law states that common words are very common, and that uncommon words are combinations of uncommon words. For example if you start typing the letters `th' then you are probably trying to write the word `the' rather than `theologian'. Applying this simple insight to mobile phones gave us predictive text entry, where a small dictionary allows the phone to guess the word that the user is most likely trying to enter. For example if you press the keys `82' while entering a text message on a modern phone, the phone will predict `the' as your word. This invention allows QWERTY-snobs like me to approach the speeds of Finnish teenagers in tapping text messages on a mobile phone.Read more

The Exam Cram 2, Novell NetWare 6.5 CNA is the best way to get certified.
I'm certified now thanks to this book. And what a time saver... the objectives are clearly defined and the material is straight to the point. As a bonus, the author includes brief notes on the do's and don'ts in a real world Netware environment. This is good stuff. If you are serious about getting certified, then this book is for you.

Disappointed with this Title
As with every other IT professional I know, I have difficulty finding the time to read every technical book that I would like, and have a fast growing backlog of material to read. Because of this, I expect the material I read to be succinct and on topic. I had a need to obtain my CNE credential due to its relevance to my present job assignment, and since this is Novell's official study guide, I opted to use this book for study... Needless to say, I was disappointed.
eDirectory section is the hardest
Novell continues to update and expand its network management software, and this book reflects the latest 2004-5 version, Netware 6. It is aimed primarily at those sysadmins who, for professional reasons, need to obtain a Novell certification. This being Version 6, you can see in the bulk of the book that Novell has built out a tremendous amount of material.

Quite useful book. But I wont recommend it. Other than file I/O and threading, it is not for advanced programmers.

I bought this book to get advanced concepts of win32 multithreading which I cant get by browsing through msdn. Although this book has covered all topics, I was expecting more like a "Concurrent Programming In Java, by Doug Lee" kind of book which has a lot of gotchas. A perfect book for ADO
this is a very good book, comparing to MSDN ADO note on the web, which covers only access to .mdb database, this book covers a variety of methods and databases. Thank for the great contribution.

Visual Basic ADO Book
This is a well written book for existing programmers who want to learn ADO. While the examples are in Visual Basic, the core concepts of ADO are very detailed and anyone with an understanding of a similar language, such as ASP or C++ should have no trouble applying the examples to the other language. It will not help you if you don't already know how to program. Its all here.
You can't get a more complete ADO book.. ever gritty detail is in this book.. It's almost too much information.:- ) if you code ADO.This is a good book to have. Read more

question in example code, still 5 stars
I have read more than half of the book. I like the material the book covers and the way of teaching by exemples.
An excellent course through Unix and Linux with copious code and examples.
Unix has had the luxury of being one of the most documented operating systems in history. Many books have been dedicated to documenting the internals of Unix and Unix-like systems and some have risen to the ranks of classic texts regarded by all as necessary to understanding the inner workings of Unix. Understanding Unix�/Linux Programming would be in excellent company with these books. The book contains a copious amount of code and clear, diagramed explanations describing the processes transpiring in the machine.

Best book on Windows GDI
This the most extensive, best explained Windows GDI book ever read by me! I hereby highly recommend this book to everyone who is doing GDI intensive work. Excellent Coverage, Poorly Written
After spending several weeks going over the contents of this book, I do not recommend it to the beginning or intermediate readers.Feng Yuan insight into the Visual C++ environment is excellent; however, he does a very poor job with organizing and explaining the topic to the average reader.
