I should've known
Honestly, I was kind of excited to see a book written about Maxscript and the corresponding SDK.Unfortunately, this book is mostly MaxScript and some SDK knowledge.As stated in another review, it doesn't help you master anything; it just introduces you to it.
Wish the SDK took up more space
The Max SDK has gone some improvements since this book was written but the general idea is the same.This is book is an excellent book to start writing your own plug-ins for MAX.It's too bad that it's the only book out there with the SDK.I hope this author comes out with some more of these books.

Practical For Beginners
Im using Adobe Illustrator CS, but this book still applies the simple uses for things. I feel a lot of reviews for this book are low because people are looking for the impossible way to learn Illustrator; which is to jump in and do whatever they want.
Not that easy to follow
Not a very easy book to follow.Also I did not a few mistakes in the book that made me pull my hair out. Don't expect to learn program in a weekend.
I liked the book and was excellent by itself.Illustrator is not a program or subject which can be learned in a weekend it takes time.This book walks you through the information step by step.It's frustrating at first if your a windows guy like me the set-up is so different in the Adobe environment.Read more

Acrobat made easy
Set out in steps that are easy to follow. Learn how to insert links to other pages, make better use of multimedia content, and add security to your important documents and articles. Acrobat is a very flexible programme and this book makes it easy to learn with clear instructions. Well worth the money.

It belongs on everyone's bookshelf who desires a rapid understanding and working knowledge of the product destined to play an important part in Internet communication and collaboration. Shari's writing is light, crystal clear and her topic organizational skills are exceptional bordering on the extraordinary. I can think of no other book where I learned so painlessly so much about a complex software package while simultaneously acquiring an 80 part essential skill set. Adobe does Acrobat customers an injustice by not including "Adobe Acrobat 7 in a Snap" in their retail package. At approximately $13 (Amazon Price) this book is a steal; I suggest you steal it.

What a bargain - 3 for 1!
I already had Fireworks, and then I bought the Flash and Freehand bundle. I am used to Illustrator, and this book really helped me tie all the programs together. The projects are easy to do, but challenging enough to keep up your interest. They also build up your skill level so you increase your capabilities as you work in the programs. Nice Surprise
I must say I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I actually learned a ton more than expected which is unusual for a book not meant to teach all 3 programs. It is certainly at an intermediate level as stated which is also a refreshing surprise.Read more

Not worth Ten Dollars
A decent reference but it does not explain how just what.For how you will need more detailed books.I bought it at a bookstore for two dollars and it was worth it.Ten dollars was the original price and I don't think it would have been worth that much.

Very good overview
Contrary to some of the other reviews I think this is a great book; it's one of the only books I've found that gives a "complete" overview of the film-making process with 3ds Max.While the content may not be in it's final stage; I think the major problem most would have with it is the fact that it claims to be professional work instead of merely educational examples like most books.I've always found its better to learn with "real" examples, so while I don't know how good the film would do they are excellent learning tools.

Poor Animation Quality
Kennedy's book teaches some basics but the quality of his results leaves alot to be desired. It makes you wonder why he would slam the incredible 3D done in Final Fantasy when he isn't even in the same league and probably never will be.The illustrations and textual layout are not as clear as they should be. If you want to learn the basics, you can get something from this book.However, a good book shows you how to get good results.The results he achieves in this book are subpar.
Worst looking renders I've seen in a published tome
I'm stunned that the author claims to have success in this industry given the absolutely horrible work he passes off as being professional in quality. I'm very serious that I have not seen such poor quality in ANY other book. I teach 3D and have seen much better work from novice students. My only conclusion is that the author completely lacks the capacity to be self-critical of his own work given that he obviously believes his film-in-progress merits serious consideration. The Missing Manual. It really is!
Since Adobe abandoned providing a written manual following Version 2, Brundage's book not only fills the missing manual need but also, provides an expanded guide with a wealth of helpful hints not found in most manuals. Adobe should use Brundage's style for any future manual they might provide, if they change their mind. Elements is too extensive and complicated an application to learn how to use it from the 'How-To' palette or Help button.
great starter program
I am not a total newcomer to photo programs so a book that goes beyond basics was what I was looking for. This book fills the bill. It is well written and fairly easy to understand. The book discusses most of the capabilities of Elements 3 and has great photos as examples for the text. I had a lot of fun applying the lessons to my photos. The only 'con' I have is that I would have liked greater explanation and detail for use of some of the features, for example historigram and gradients, but as a primer to a more advanced book it can't be beat.
Buy this is you've never used Photoshop
I'm quite computer literate and have learned to use many computer programs, some of them quite complicated, just by exploring the program.Photoshop Elements isn't like that.You will barely scratch the surface of this powerful program if you don't get this book.

Premiere Rocks
I have no basis for comparison as I got this software to make a wedding slideshow.I've done my research and read reviews that this is more difficult to learn than other programs.

After numerous hours attemting to make DVD slide shows with Photoshop elemnts 4.0 and Premiere 2.0, I have given up for now.It appears that my Windows Xp media center has a problem preventing this particular use of the application to work.
A Big Help to Get Started
I have had some experience with Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, but none in Premiere.Photoshop has several new features I had not used previously.The book was great at getting me started on a new project to put together a DVD of our church's high schools grads and their family pictures, along with audio.The book includes a disk containing all the lesson materials, showing how the final product should look prior to walking you through on how to get to that final product.It does not cover all of the features of each program, but is great at getting you started and familiarizing yourself with the program interfaces. ... Great book
I use InDesign every day. And still I found so many usefull tips in this book. It is not for a beginner, but definitely the book for every professional. Highly recommend the book.

Dont Get The Ebook Version
I ordered the downloadable version hoping I could immediately get my copy, print off and start reading. It so happens that the pdf format doesn't allow printing more than 30 pages, doesn't allow cut and paste beyond 30 selections, and there's no copy of what's in the accompanying cd. I really felt deceived since for a few more bucks I could have gotten the whole thing, though I had to wait a few weeks. One thing's for sure - Im never downloading any ebooks again. ... Read more

My first choice for a manual replacement
The Visual Quickstart series is, in my opinion, the best replacement for a manual, or for those excuses for a manual that appear in software boxes. The Photoshop Elements book fits that need to a T. Good Format, Good Writing, Good Book
I like the format of the Visual QuickStart Guides. Generally speaking, the pages are divided into two columns. The outside column has a headline explaining what the page is about and text to describe how to do it, and perhaps include a bit of explanation or a Tip. The inside column has a screen shot of what the monitor should look like as you do that particular operation. This is combined with an index that directs you to the page based on what you need to do.

Having the best of filters
As all the collection of this books it is good to have this in your personal library to check out how filters work with different kind of pictures, of coarse these books are directed to professional photos, but you can maybe experiment with your personal as well, I just wanted to point that out because in the book the examples given are for applying filters to pictures you maybe wanna show or give to a client.

Superb guide
I've worked wirth and recommended the past several editions of this book -- and each one has been better than the last. With the Premiere Pro 2 edition, Droblas and Greenberg have raised the bar even further, with even more comprehensive information and valuable insight on workflow, special effects and creating smoothly running, professional looking digital video. It is realy a Bible
This book is really a bible covering everything about Photoshop CS. All what you need to know.I have two issues about this book: it is not tailored to a certain provision such as graphics designers, photographers and so on. The second is the lack of proper classifications, for example: file formatting is explained in full details, but not mentioned in the Table of Contents. Nevertheless it is a great book for those consider themselves serious Photoshop users. Looking forward to see CS2 version of the book.

Worst. Cover art. Ever.
This crappy cover (and its non sequitur title) serve only to frighten Photoshop enthusiasts from the completely usable content within.

Pleasantly Surprised By This Book!
I was VERY skeptical about buying this one because I was so dissapointed with the last book Worth1000 put out (ISBN: 1592005241) ....So I finally checked it out at our local book store and was surprised to find out they improved A LOT from the last one.
Very poor documentation
When I first thumbed through this book, I was very impressed and excited by all of the special effects covered in this book. I was really wowed by this book. However, when I actually began reading through the instructions for the examples, I realized just how poorly written the instructions are. Multiple steps are left out. For those who are not advanced in the use of Photoshop, this book is going to go rightpast you. In the example of putting a giraffe's neck on a zebra's body the reader is told to clone out the zebra's neck (a step)then use the Edit>Transform command to place and manipulate the neck of a giraffe on that of the zebra (another step) and then to clone onstripes to the giraffe's neck (that's a step). Those are your instructions- that's it folks. No explanation of how to use the Transform tool (not a beginner's tool) in this situation or how the author carried out the cloning (which cloning tool, what size/type brush, where he cloned from on the zebra back end, how he got the stripes to line up on the neck and blend into the body, etc.etc.) Very, very poor. For the advanced Photoshoper who can read between the lines, this isn't a problem but then if you already know how to do it as I did, what's the point of owning the book?. For the beginner to intermediate user, this is not the book for you.I feel sorry for the person who wowed and excited and is expecting actual step by step explanations of the examples in the book from the great reviews here at Amazon. I can't help but think other reviewers were drawn in by the wow factor like I was at the beginning. If someone really wants to see just how poor the examples are, check out Photoshop Photo Effects Cookbook by Tim Shelbourne (O'Reilly) and compare it to I've Got a Human In My Throat. Shelbourne's book covers most of the same effects but actually gives true step by step examples including screenshots of Photoshop menus and dialog boxes which are rare in I've Got A Human in My Throat. Put the two booksside by side and then decide if you really want to buy I've Gota Human In My Throat. Tim Shelbourne's book is a much better choice if you want to purchase a special effects book. There are other good choices out there as well. I've Got A Human in my Throat is just very nice eye candy. ... Read more

Using the images the book uses
I think this book has excellent details and instructions for learning Photoshop, but the one thing it doesn't have is a disc or website listed to download the images used in the examples.It is harder to learn the steps when you don't have the images the book uses, so I only give it three stars.

Excellent Photoshop book
This book offers a solid introduction to using Photoshop. It's aimed at graphic artists, designers, photographers, students and teachers of Photoshop who want to edit and work with the imaging software.
Short on examples
While the HOT photoshop book only teaches through steps and examples often failing to show how to get there independently, this book omits the steps entirely and is not integrated with the practice cd provided.I found myself often frustrated with the lack of examples and the lack of integration with the practice images provided.Perhaps this book is better geared towards intermediate to advanced users, but it falls short for beginers. ... EASY to read and understand even if you have never touched quark or indesign!
I am new to the graphic design world as I have been a web designer mostly.I am slowly making the switch from only web design programs to graphic design programs.With so much choice out their I broke it down to quark or indesign.I have never used either program before, and I have to say this book makes it so much easier to compare the two products side by side.Alot of people can sit there and tell you to use one product over the other.But, myself I like to make my own decision on which product of either quark or indesign that best suits me.I have to say this book was easy to read, the pictures and steps were quick and easy to follow for either program.This book is USEFUL for anyone wanting to learn alittle bit about the quark or indesign program.Or even if you know the programs, provides clear and precise steps of comparing the two differences in the products.This book would probably more for individuals on the beginner to intermediate levels, but it is a excellent book resource.

Within Arms Reach
Like many others out there making the switch, I have too. Going from Pagemaker to Quark I literally did in an hour. Quark to InDesign, well that took a little longer. This book is great when your in the middle of doing something and you know what you want, but no clue how to do it or what its called. For those things that need some further explaination I recommend the CS2 Bible. I use Face to Face more, but both are great references to have!

An excellent resource for any designer making the switch
This book is indispensable to any designer making the switch from Quark Xpress to InDesign. Using the side-by-side comparison of features is much faster than trying to find the answers online, because in order to look up how to do something, you have to know what it's called in InDesign. With this book, you don't. As a book designer, my only complaint is that the layout is unnecessarily complex. The shaded areas and bars, underlined text, icons and more were distracting rather than helpful, and the quality of the paper used makes the book look and feel cheap. Even so, I highly commend the author for the fine job in compiling such a massive amount of material and I highly recommend the book. ... Read more
