1-0 out of 5 stars Basic mumbo jumbo
I was excited to receive this book - I love learning about how other users master the techniques of Photoshop. Boy was I disappointed! I've seen these illustrations before - rehashed and rehashed - and if you're using Photoshop CS or CS2, don't waste your time. If you're still working with Photoshop 4 and have never done a collage, I guess you should buy this book. although you'll learn more on Adobe's tutorial website than you'll learn from this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars it's ok
The book is not bad ,but the sample is too simple...but it has detailed walkthroughs of the creation ..so maybe it's very useful for the people who just begin to learning photoshop.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great projects, great book.
I liked the projects in this book, as they really showed you how to use Photoshop to achieve professional results. Anyone who wants to learn how to combine many different images into one slick final presentation should check out this helpful guide. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A deeper look into 3ds Max 7
Before I started reading the Inside 3ds Max 7 book, I had read the authors biography. Most of them got a long history with 3ds Max, which makes this book a must-read experience.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book
The author obviously knows his subject matter and is able to communicate it to his audience very effectively. While I am neither an expert with 3ds max, nor a professional, I find the examples in this book to be concise, clearly written and easy to follow. As other reviewers point out this book is a great resource for intermediate to professional users. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, Fast and to the Point
After trying several self-help books on the Adobe Photshop 7.0, including Photoshop 7 for Dummies, a friend recommended this title, which is the official training workbook from Adobe Systems, Inc. The title was being used as a textbook in his college graphic class and he found it to be in logical sequence and with an easy to understand format. If you are a not-every-day user of the program and want to learn specific techniques to enhance or modify your photographs - this book is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars A computer novice can be an expert with this book.
I have been doing photo editing for some time now, mostly for my mothers scrap booking. She decided that she wanted to fix photos herself so she signed up for a class. She barley knew how to use the mouse and press the button to turn the computer on.This book has taught her how to not only run the program but also how windows and Macintosh work. This book teaches step by step through multiple lessons, and has instructions for both Windows and Mac users.I recommend this book to students and those wanting to know how to do image editing.I taught myself how to restore and edit photos and have been doing it for 3 years, and I have learned things from this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Classroom in a book
I am really enjoying Photoshop 7 Classroom in a book.I have been a photoshop user for a few years, but learned it by the seat of my pants and had a few "holes."I've filled in the holes and learned new tricks along the way to make me more creative and productive.Amazon service is great, too -- fast and free shipping. You can't beat that! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Nice book to integrate UML/Visio/dot net skills
There are better books to train developers in individual skills - UML, Visio, dot net.But this book does a nice job tying them altogether - it won't teach you how to model, etc. but does a very good job in applying and integrating all the skills. There are some annoying typos, but no showstoppers.

3-0 out of 5 stars UML yes, but
I do not think that the title of this book is appropriate. The book is about UML but i question the professional bit in the title. The writing is okay but you can tell that different authors worked on the book. Had the book been a little more coherent I would have opted for 4 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars developer
It is a total mystery to me why this book was written in the first place. From UML standpoint it covers only very basic scenarios. From software perspective it does not cover topics like "..how the hell do I specify .Net attributes and do not lose them in reverse engineering..." or "...why C# documentation is totally incompatible with what Visio produces...". The only thing this book teaches is how to do basic operations, which you probably can figure out on your own after 2 days of pocking around. DO NOT waist you money (I would use 0 star option if it was available) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
This book is a must have for any digital nature photographer. Great step by step how to's and very well laid out.

2-0 out of 5 stars So-So - Not the Best Book.
I am not sure what part Tim Grey plays in creating this book but if you are purchasing the book do it because of what Ellen Anon is contributing to the book.I Think Tim Grey is a fantastic Photoshop and P.C. Guru - and a great writer in his element. If Tim contributed to the Photoshop techniques of this book that is good.He is not a fantastic nature photographer.Leave the nature photos to the likes of John Shaw and George Lepp (Tim knows both of these nature photographers), etc.Tim Grey has some great books out - Color Confidence and Photoshop CS2 are two of them.Buy those two books before this one if you want some of Tim's best writings on Photoshop.Photo Finish is another book that Tim Grey co-authored and it also a So-so book. There are tons of good Photoshop books. If you need a starter try the Adobe Photoshop Classroom in A Book series for whichever version of Photoshop you are using. Use the Adobe Photoshop Tutorials on their web site - they are great and free. Print these tutorial out in color and put them in a binder and you have a great Photoshop book with little or no cost to you. John Shaw has an excellent e-book, "John Shaw's Photoshop Field Guide", about 208 pages.A great source for nature photographers with some Photoshop experience. No 'down-&-dirty' tricks in his e-book.It is straight forward Photoshop information for a nature photographer of all levels of experience. It does not cover Photshop CS2 but you can figure everything out.Cost is $30 US.http://www.johnshawphoto.com/ebook.htm.Two other books to consider if you don't already have them are Adobe Photoshop, by David Blatner & Bruce Fraser and Digital Photography, by Eismann (a great photographer & writer), Duggan, and Tim Grey. (since Grey is at the end of the line here I can only assume his part is small in this book).Purchase some of these other books before spending money on Photoshop For Nature Photographers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage and easy to read
I should be clear up front - I'm lucky enough to know Ellen and Tim personally but that has no impact on my thoughts about this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Photoshop Restoration and Retouching
Very detail lessons. Not for the Photoshop novice. A good working knowledge of Photoshop is needed. Excellent learning tool for those interested in all aspects of photo restoration and retouching.

5-0 out of 5 stars Katrin Eismann is a great teacher
I've read her other book on compositing and all I can say is I love her style of teaching! It's inspiring and not canned at all. She doesn't teach you to just dial in numbers, but instead she focuses on the concepts so that you can then decide what numbers you need by yourself!
5-0 out of 5 stars Welcome update for a classic guidebook

4-0 out of 5 stars Great beginners book
Honestly a few days ago I did not know a thing about 3D Studio Max 8. All that I knew was that I needed to learn it. This book Ultimately is the beginner's bible for those out there that have no clue about how to use 3d Studio Max. It is divided into sections which cover all the bases from the Overall user interface, modelling, Animation, texturing and finally rendering.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Great book for 3D beginners, but that's about it. Some tutorials on ligting and shadows are pretty good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands on for beginners
I am new to the world of 3d and have no clue with regards to a 3d environment. My company bought 3ds Max 8 and have also sent me on a course to "get-up-to-speed" quickly. Before the course started I thought I would purchase this book so that I do not look like a total novice on the course. What I love about the book is that it explains concepts and then moves into a practicle aspects of what it explained. At all times I knew exatly what I had to do (as they have many screen dumps) and I never found myself looking for a button or a tab (which I often find myself doing with training matterial). I have completed the book and have attended 2 days of the 3ds Max course. To my amazement I would say that I am compentent at this stage of the course.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great recipes, easy steps, wonderful results.
This book puts you on the fast track to grafting the styles of famous artists into your own work through more than five dozen easy-to-follow recipes. Not surprisingly, you'll find yourself learning more than you originally expected to about Photoshop.

2-0 out of 5 stars not-so-fast ...
Earlier this year I reviewed what many will see as the companion volume to this book ("Photoshop Blending Modes Cookbook for Digital Photographers"), written by the same author. Unfortunately, the newer publication is less useful. It seems to have been written on a pretext that it's clever to be able to duplicate what traditional artists can do. This seems - from my own personal viewpoint - to be greatly undervaluing the power of Photoshop (and similar software). Practitioners of digital fine art should (really, constructively) be looking to explore what the principles of prior and traditional art can mean within a new domain.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me polish my expertise
I knew enough to do the basics, but not enough to take full advantage of the program. The book is a very helpful desk reference.I am not a professional, but I do make documents in publisher and work, as well as a few things in adobe illustrator. Now I know some tricks of the trade, and wondered why I never bought this earlier! Thanks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Has info. not available elsewhere.
I got this book for my brother, who just bought Acrobat 7 Professional to create fillable forms with special functions. He tried and tried to do what he wanted, but until I gave him this book, he wasn't able to figure out how to do what he wanted to. This book had the specific information that taught him how to do what he wanted. I was amazed, because he even downloaded a huge amount of information from Adobe's Web site in his search for the right info. and couldn't get what he needed.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not for Macs
This is not a bad book, but it's mistitled. It should be "How to Do Everything with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 for Windows." It ignores nearly all differences in the program and procedures for the Mac version, and nowhere does it warn you of this. Hello? Anyone home? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money and your time ...
I have read author David Blatner's book on quark and being very familar with that program, I found his book on moving to indesign immensely helpful. You get great tips on how to do things that you have already established in your quark workflow. The index is well organized and a quick reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Preserving the art of monochrome
Film photographers have long savored black-and-white photography for its stark alternative to realism, and the stripped down, minimalistic approach to creating an image.Digital photography threatened to push black-and-white photography to extinction, but, thankfully, artists like Hamilton have preserved the spirit of the medium and extended it through the use of Adobe's flagship image editor.
5-0 out of 5 stars my photographs have improved with the help of this book
I consider this book to be in a class with the best books written on photography.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Fine Art Book
This is a very nice fine art photography book dealing with black and white. The author is obviously very well versed in Adobe Photoshop and his expertise is evident through his writing. 5-0 out of 5 stars This is the book I've been looking for!!!
I've been using Premiere Elements for about a month.Until yesterday I've been slogging through the user manual and the help screens.I struggled to do the very basics--creatung slide shows, capturing video and gluing clips together, saving the output to DVD.Nothing fancy at all.
5-0 out of 5 stars Practical applications of a powerful program
I don't care what anyone says -- sometimes reading the manual is just too painful. Not that Adobe's manual is bad, it's just... dry, and doesn't really show you practical applications of the program's features..The "Premiere Elements 2 In A Snap" book makes learning Premiere Elements' ins and outs fun, and does it in a way that you don't have to weed through endless paragraphs to figure out what needs to be done.
5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed this book
This is the first book i have ever started at the beginning and did each and every step.....and i had a ball!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome InDesign Training Manual!
This book is phenomenal! After purchasing several different manuals covering the various main components of Adobe Creative Suite 2 (Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Photoshop CS2 and GoLive CS2) I found myself wishing that Lynda.com published a Hands-On Training book for every component of CS2. The combination of Brian Wood's clear writing style and the included bonus exercises and demo movies made me feel like I had my own personal InDesign instructor right beside me.Everyone who wants to learn InDesign from the comfort of their own desk should have a copy of this book. I highly recommend it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Too slow
I have bought linda books in the past and they are very good beacuse of the inclusion of quicktime movies and excersises. But I find this book too slow. The fact that you have to be 4 chapters to be able to put text in the document it's a drawback. To spend 3 chapters to tell you how to create a guide, I think it's for retards or 6th grade students. I regret spending the money on the book. I think I 'll try the Classroom in a Book CS2 since I had the previus CS1 that was good. I would not recomended for classroom beacause students will get bored. But it's a good option for non-designer people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Training for Indesign CS2
I work for an architect firm in which we used the old Pagemaker for doing our marketing and proposals brochures. We upgraded to Indesign CS2.I have never had any formal training in using Pagemaker or any marketing software.I simply edited over previous brochures to launch my new projects. So I really felt overwhelmed when I first opened the software and didn't know where to begin.I went to a large book store and took off the shelf every training book I could find on learning InDesign CS2. There were a couple dozen books out there.I choose this book because I could relate to it.It explains very clearly everything you need to know to get started using it.It has pictures or diagrams on just about every page showing you exactly where to go and how to do what they are explaining. Then you are directed to a practice exercise or video (on the training disk which comes with the book) to reinforce what you have learned. In my opinion if you are "green" to this software this is the best book for the average lay person.I even tried taking an 8 week class on InDesign CS2 which used the Adobe "Classroom In A Book".I ended up dropping the class because I thought I could learn more efficiently on my own using this book.I can't tell you exactly why but I did not like Adobe's Classroom In a Book as well as Brian Wood's Hands-On Training. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars For video?
First of all I kind of expect a touch of sense in graphics and layout when the book treats the subject Photoshop. The interface reminds me of a Spanish course book I had in 8th grade wich also made me puke.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
With the tons of Photoshop books out there is one should be at the bottom of the list or not on the list at all.Being a veteran photoshop user and having bought quite a few PS books in the past this one is the worst I've come across.I bought this thinking it would cover information for using PS for video that other books hadn't covered. Not only was the information in this book incredibly basic it was also very hard to read. ...
