Lacking in details....bigtime!
This book (being returned to Amazon) has less information on the fine points of creating personal preferences than does theapplication's built in help menu. It assumes that every user had just come from the previous version of Word. Coming from Word 5.1a (Macintosh) I might as well have been arriving from Mars.The book lacks essential detailof each operation in which I was interested. MS Publisher For Dummies
The book was listed as 'Good Condition' and arrived in a very short time in what I can only describe as 'Excellent Condition' I am very pleased with the book, delivery, and service.

Not recommended for all.
Overall, I found this book jam packed with a little bit of info on everytopic necessary but I felt like it spent more time DESCRIBING the featuresand EXPLAINING WHY they were important instead of giving HANDS-ONINSTRUCTIONS.The book called "Quick Course in Microsoft Publisher2000" by Joyce Cox and Christina Dudley (ISBN: 1582780072) was morehelpful for me.I acknowledge that each person has a different style oflearning.If you need specific hands-on instruction, go with Quick Course. Are your spreadsheets error free? Look again!
I hate proofreading my work. I know what's supposed to be there so that's what I see. But if a typo slips through the net there's no real harm done and someone else usually spots it and lets me know. But auditing a spreadsheet is a different matter. A simple error could easily go unnoticed and its consequences might cascade through the workbook without ever being discovered. So this book is a Godsend! It explains, clearly and with illustrated examples, how to design and build reliable, error-free spreadsheets and how to use the tools that Excel provides for auditing and error-checking. Each section concludes with a self-test and there is a support website. I though I knew my way around Excel pretty well, but reading this book I found myself saying "I didn't know you could do that!". If you build spreadsheets you should read this book.

Valuable book

Beginning to End - Better Spreadsheets
Whether your a beginner or a seasoned pro, I would recommend this book. It is not collecting dust on my bookshelf. This is one of the first books I have read that took me from pre-design to maintaining the finished product. The book gave me proven design principles that will prevent many of the common pitfalls of my spreadsheet models.

Only Buy one Title from Author
I have purchased 3 books by Gary Chefetz. The first on Project Server 2002 was excellent, just the chapter on how to install and configure Project Server was worth the price of the book. This book "Managing Enterprise Project Using Microsoft Project Server 2003" is a very good hands-on tutorial style book. It does not give you a tremendous amount of background information around project management or on how to structure a project management office using Project Server as a tool, or why it is that you would do something one way as opposed to aother. But it is a very good intoductory and hands-on book. I have also purchased another of the author's books, and to be honest there is about an 80% overlap in content. Same text, same screen shots, with possibly two chapters being substantially different. So I would caution anyone to purchase more that one title from the author because of the high redundancy factor in the different publications. He has the word processing template down cold. It struck me that the author would make an excellent consultant, because the books tell you enough, without you yourself really being able to do it yourself, which then means you have to rely on their consulting services. After you have read these books, be aware that some assembly may still be required.

Good, but not Great...
After having been spoiled by Mr. Chefetz's Project Server 2002 book, I was disappointed in this work. My primary complaint with this book is that it is much less complete than the earlier book. As another reviewer mentioned, this edition does not even have an index. In addition, the coverage of enterprise outline codes, enterprise fields, Project Web Access views, built-in functions and the differences between Project Center and Project views was all less than stellar.The other gripe I have is that what was deliverd in one book before (Chefetz's 2002 book), is now separated into two $50+ books.Is this a conspiracy by the publisher to sell more books?

This book is packed with tips and recommendations you won't find in other books like Step by Step and SEU. It adds another layer of knowledge to make you reach a deeper understanding of the complex environment which is Project Professional in a Project Server system. Best of the Best
I am an (Master) instructor of Microsoft Office, and have reviewed a number of books to use in the classroom for my adult students and have found this series to be the most useful for students from rank beginners to advanced.If you are looking for a book that will let you learn on your own, this is it. You will need no other. If you are looking for a course to prepare you for certification for MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) this is it. Everything you need in one series.

I've seen better
This book to me did not explain certain things so well and I would have to ask others how to do them. I did not like the books approach at all. But the book definitely told you how to open the programs up. Ex:Go to start and click all programs, then click word.Read more

This book is worth every penny
This book is oriented for those with basic knowledges of Excel and some general understanding of Visual Basic (Visual Basic 6 not Visual Basic .NET).However, the examples are simple, sequential and conductive for constructing basic applications even if you have never use Visual Basic before.
No real life examples
This book sucks!Its just a little better than the help file included in with Excel.All he does is put it in a diffrent order.I was expecting small excercises where I could put my new skills all together, but there is none.So you read the whole book, remember as much as you can, and go off and try to mix and match hundreds of commands...buy another one.

Excelent manual for intermediate and higher programmers!

"Perfect Pages": a clear and accessible guide for book creation
I enjoyed Aaron Shepard's "Perfect Pages", a clear and accessible guide for book creation using Microsoft Word instead of expensive publishing software. Shepard shows that Word actually has some advantages for publishers, tells how to make Word do what's needed, while avoiding some of Word's hazards. Thus the book delivers worthwhile Word tips for novices and experts alike---and there are more web resources at the end of the book---but it's more than that, because a book is more than a manuscript: it has to look good and read easily. "Perfect Pages" covers the details (fonts, typography, trim sizes, formatting, covers, generating PDF files, common errors . . .), showing how to make manuscripts into attractive and readable books. The book provides the ideal bridge between a Word software manual and a publishing manual (such as Morris Rosenthal's) that teaches business and strategic decisions. "Perfect Pages" is a gracefully written book that wastes few words, and minces none.
Makes self-publishing affordable for everyone
When I decided to self-publish my first book, I was intimidated by how expensive it was going to cost to buy Page Maker and I also didn't want to spend a month learning how to use it properly. Luckily, I found Aaron's ebook on Amazon and it made it possible for me to use Word and create a professional book that was accepted by the bookstores (they have a very high standard for quality print work). Now that I'm working on my second self-published book, I'm happy to see that Aaron's ebook has been updated in a paperback format. Just like the ebook, this book is essential for learning how to use Word to professionally produce your book.
Excellent guide
Like Shepard's Books, Typography, and Microsoft Word, this much-expanded version is a first-rate, user-friendly guide to designing and typesetting your book in Word. Anyone who's planning to self-publish a book will find helpful material here, particularly the sections on optimizing Word's settings to produce reliable PDF files that can be used by both POD (print-on-demand) and traditional printing services. Shepard's design advice is sound and concise; it'll help you avoid all the mistakes novice typesetters are prone to. He's especially good on the differences between the various Word programs--he covers recent versions for both Windows and Mac, and he's one of the very few who knows what EVERY setting on the file-compatibility tab does and doesn't do. He also offers some advance info about what is likely to change when Word 2006 is released. In short, this book is well worth buying--it will save you both time and money whether you're self-publishing a book, doing academic typesetting (where Word's ability to handle footnotes makes it a better choice than some page-layout programs), or just find you've been spending too much time trying to figure out how to tweak Word's settings to get the results you want. ... Great Book, but where's the data?
Overall this is a good book, but it would be much nicer if they provided Excel worksheets with the data used in the book's examples.Some sample code is provided for dowload on Oreilly's website, but this does not include example data.Nonetheless, the book is worth looking at.

What a scam
The material is quite simple and the book is very light on content.
The "algebraic cloud" has lifted!!
In his book, Decision Making with Insight, Dr. Savage really does lift the algegraic cloud that hinders the learning of management science and modeling.I second the above remark, I wish I had this type of text when I was in MBA school.The examples are truely enlightening.
Outstanding Bang for the Buck!
I wish we had this book at Wharton.This is an excellent book on Monte Carlo modeling and optimization, among other things.You just can't beat the value of the book + software, and I personally like XLSim better than Crystal Ball because it gives you the EXACT SAME result, but in a much faster time frame and with far less complicated programming.Dr. Savage teaches you while you do the examples in the book.It is truly a great way to learn a complex, but very rewarding subject.You'll never do an IRR or NPV proforma analysis in the same way again. ... If you are attracted to this title thinking that this will help you how make the jump from coding in VB/VBA for MS Office apps to coding in VB.NET you are in for a rude surprise.This book is for programmers wanting to leverage their knowledge of C# to develop solutions for MS Office.
Excellent Book for .NET Office Development w/ COM
There is a ton of misleading and confusing information on the web regarding what technologies you can use to develop against specific versions of Office. This book gives you all the practical advice you need to hit the ground running with managed COM development in Office. From a thorough introduction of the technologies available and their pros and cons, to very specific examples that show workarounds to common problems such as using custom icons in a toolbar that you add programmatically, how to use a C++ shim to sign your .NET add-on and make sure that you won't run into security issues in strict corporate environments, etc. If you are starting out with managed COM development on the Office platform then this is the book you absolutely need. We bought this book to use on a team project and it was so good that I picked up a copy for personal use at home.
Poorly targeted book, though fairly well written.
I know a lot about programming -- and I am also keenly aware that there is even more that I don't know.I have developed in MS Access, Word and Excel for the last five years on all versions since 97.I have been teaching myself Visual Studio .NET and am currently attending a Java programming class.

good examples of layout
As PowerPoint has gotten more complicated with each new release, the need increases for someone to explain well what are the key points. Like this book, for instance. It would also go well if you like green, for the pages are decorated in various shades of that colour.

O'Reilly has a new series of titles out called the Personal Trainer series.I had a chance to review PowerPoint 2003 Personal Trainer, and it's pretty good for what it's setting out to accomplish.

Extremely Disappointing
Having read through the full table of contents before purchasing this book I thought I'd found a great book.Decent projects from design through to implementation with examples.However, what the book really turned out to be was some very high level discussion on the projects with very poor detail.There were no intelligent discussions on the designs or implementations. It lacks any real detail and the examples themselves are poorly done when compared to other C# books I've read/use.Its a book which will gather dust on the shelves for sure.
