Load of crap
This is undoubtedly the worst book I have personally read on programming. The author has written/co-written excellent books such as "Office XP; The Complete Reference" but she is an expert in Access and definitely not in VBA. Why she would attempt to provide a guide to VBA is beyond comprehension when she is an accomplished author of other excellent books in her field of expertise. I regret purchasing this rubbish and would advise all other JK fans to avoid the embarrasment of doing the same.

beginners should have this book

Only reference for BIFF8 file type
This isn't really so much a review of the writing style of the book.I don't even care about VB or VC++ or anything of the such.All I care about is how to read BIFF8 files w/o Microsoft's libraries (meaning by hand). BIFF Nightmare
I was navigating on MSDN Library searching for BIFF file formats description, but I found nothing. This probably is the only solution I have. Micro$oft always have a way to take our money.

Unsatisfactory
I was really disappointed when I started reading this book. I expected good and detailed examples of dll function linking and especially hard core computations which cannot be performed effectively using VB. What I foundwas a messy collection of elementary examples worked out very incompletely.Also I expected not to see many XLM examples, but the book was full ofthose. All BUYERS READ BEFORE PURCHASING
If you intend to use this book in school, buy it NEW.The License key that gives you access to the website for the class assigned tests is not transferrable or renewable.You cannot buy the license separately.I know, I bought this used for class and had to buy a new one even after calling Prentice Hall.They told me that they sell keys separately on some of their books, but not all of them.Also, if you still are buying it used, make sure it contains the 3 CDs that you will need.

Too much "for dummies," not enough "cutting edge"

Well, to start with this book does not have any dry or boring moments. It's a rollercoaster of PowerPoint info presented typically well in the Dummies style, and it's got lots of pepper and spice on the way to keep your PowerPoints looking awesome. In fact, even when the book is not with you in front of a computer, you'll still love reading it. I should know because I read it on a long airplane journey. And now when I'm not in front of the book, I still recollect the great advice when I'm doing my PowerPoints. It's like yes, this is what Bajaj said in the book! If you can read just one chapter, read the chapter on Color. That itself is worth the cost of this book.

Slightly better than average
The best aspect of this book is it's section on ADO, but there is little depth into the topic. How frustrating to find something so powerful and so undocumented, only to see the end of the chapter so quickly.

The book is adressed both to beginners and intermediate users, not advanced ones though. It covers everything, however there were many occasions where I wanted more information. This is not to say the book is not a great value for money. After all, a complete vba book would probably need to have a couple of thousand pages, whereas with this book you can start programming even having read only chapter 2. If money is not an issue, you also need to buy Walkenbach's vba book too.Read more

reference, not insrtructional guide
Another well organized referenceby Steven Roman. I bought this book after reading his Access Database, design and Programming book, which was also very good.I like most others am self taught and refer to these books in order to develop a solution to a particular problem I may be having.Indispensable.

Still good, even with XP
I'm adding to my review of 2 years ago because I'm amazed that even though I'm now using XP with Microsoft Office 2002, this book is still useful. Although some of the actual code is unusable (and was unusable with 97), it still points me in the right direction. I can't believe I still find information in here that can't be found in other VBA & Excel programming reference books. I have so many of them, and I always find that this book keeps me on the right track where others drop off. It's definitely true that one must keep several Excel & VBA books on hand because they all have incorrect info here and there, and no one volume covers everything. But while I will probably be letting go of a few others now that my firm has (finally) upgraded, this is one I'm gonna keep.

Great resource
I find this book to be an indispensable resource in my work customizing Excel for a global financial institution. Being a self-taught programmer, I find some of the text a huge bore and mainly use the code examples, rewriting it to fit my needs. I do not waste my time going through his exercises because they seem laborious and I need fast answers. For that, however, it has proved itself invaluable. I will admit that the examples are so plain vanilla in here that you have to know how to use Excel and VBA to apply them to actual situations. A must have for MsAccess programmers
Daily employed subjects, very good explaineds and an useful INDEX to found what you need. That is aplicable to the whole serie "Access xxx Developer's Handbook". I own all of them!. The best books about MsAccess.

DAO/ADO Why didn't they use some different letters?
Microsoft had the guts to simply stop DAO code in place(3.6 is it) and it was such an ugly mess to use to write client server applications that its just as well.Now there's ADO, which is like RDO (which you could onlyget by buying Visual Basic, Professional Edition, but now RDO is no longerbeing developed or improved), and ADO is also like PowerBuilder in itssyntax and function, primarily in using a universal and extremely flexibleconnection object to link to the data source. Anyone who's ever purchased one of the Access Developer Handbooks will find this incredible Enterprise Edition is a must have! The code samples on the CD alone are worth the cost of the book. The writing is clear and thorough and the samples are excellent and (so far) bug free.Read more

Pass On This One
This book is mostly a waste of money unless you are taking a class requiring this as a textbook.Why?Because it is written like a textbook!Every chapter ends with pages of great questions that remain unanswered because the only place to get the answer is a special order instructor's version.I am not taking a class.I foolishly expected it to be a complete teaching tool and business reference.There isn't even a disc included --a requirement for a book this expensive. Great tool to learn VBA
I've taught VBA for a few years, and this book is fantastic.If you are trying to learn VBA from the position of an intermediate Excel user, it is a GREAT way to do so.The extensive coverage of the range object is invaluable, as is the coverage on VBA's debugging tools.I've even recommended this book to Access students just to get a better handle on how to use the VBA debugging tools, because the topic is so well covered!The index leaves a bit to be desired, thus falling somewhat short as a reference tool afterwards - but if you're looking for a nuts and bolts tutorial that is practical and fun, this is it!

I'm currently a quarter of the way through this. It's an excellant book as it is entirely user friendly and easy to use. The Joys ofExcel
This book has mixed qualities.It is 'good' from the standpoint of being succinct in the explanations it does give.
A good reference, but not for "anybody"; allow me to explain
First of all I have to confess that this book was acquired under the conditions that I probably know 90% of the materials covered in the book. Thus my interest is in the 10% I am not aware of and the other 10% if there are alternative ways to solve problems better than I am doing now. Quick and Dirty- but Immensely Practical

Fast answers to common questions
I find this a great resource when you need to administer Exchange, especially for 5.5 to 2003 admins. Everything is well written, with examples given using the GUI, command prompt and scripting.

It is not easy to judiciously cover successive editions of any given software in a single book, but I must say that the efforts of the authors of this book are commendable. Any system administrator who shares his time working with both Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 2003 would find this book indispensable. Its contents prove that getting to understand new versions of mission-critical technologies do not always mean starting from scratch.
Handy set of recipes for Exchange administrators
The cookbook style really works for a topic like Exchange server maintenance. The style defines a set of recipes where each recipe covers a single question; e.g. Rehoming Public Folders. Then it discusses the problem, gives a solution, and then discusses how the solution actually works. It gives you insight into the workings of Exchange within a practical framework.

Great book from the Access Experts!!!!!
Back in 1999 I purchased the Access 97 Bible to help me computerize my employer's auditing system into and Access database. The book was great I completed my task with such ease thanks to the book. Great book from the Access Experts!!!!!

...or your time if you're an intermediate to advanced Access user.Basically this book just reiterates what's in the help section - and we all know how good MS has made their help sections - of the program.I can't get answers to any of my questions... you'd have better luck going to the MS online forums and asking your questions there.But hey, if you're new to Access or not real computer savy, this book may be helpful.Beats learning/perfecting the art of obtaining help from MS "help".One last note, Access Inside/Out is the same thing, so if you do get one of them, only buy ONE. ... This book will utterly confuse you
Do yourself a favor and avoid this book.The book does not explain, it only documents, with heavy and unnecessary use of terminology.If you want to learn and understand, get Bartz's "Basic Statistical Concepts," an excellent book in it's 4th edition.

If you are looking for practical instruction skip this book
If you are studying for the GMAT or a similar test, this book might be helpful. However, if you are struggling with a problem and need practical advice on what test to use and how to perform it, pass this book by.I bought this book in part because it said on the cover that it would tell you how to use Excel for statistic.Forget that unless you think being told "this can be done on Excel" is how-to instructions.

Good for teachers/tutors
I just picked up this book tonight.It looks great for my purposes, as a math/stats tutor.I am always looking for books with lots of practice questions (and the nice thing is, this book includes true/false; multiple choice; short answer etc. -- very handy for testing students' conceptual knowledge) and this one is full of them!

good and easy
The book is good for a beginning however it has help to remine me of things that we sometimes take for granted as related to the tasks we do every day without thinking how we actually perform them or how a description of such action is worded. It has help refresh and renew my thinking on some things in MS word.I believe this book will enhance and refresh the key points of MS office.

This book is a wonderful review for the MOS Certification Tests.It covers all the tests - Word (both Core & Expert), Excel (both Core & Expert), Access, Powerpoint, and Outlook.Each section starts with a very basic introduction and steps through all the different tasks that might show up on the tests.
