Good educational value!
This book provides a great educational resource for elementary 3D graphics. Even though the algorithms presented may be a bit simplistic compared to, for example, those used in the QuakeIII engine, they offer a great insight into the mathematics behind 3D graphics. C code optimization is also well presented in this book, but again a bit outdated, as modern compilers make macros for speed a thing of the past! This is a great book though, and ALL algorithms described have good mathematical background provided. You can also disregard the source code and use this just as a book on the math behind 3D graphics. Good Educational Value

Fun resource to have
While books of this type can lose their freshness after awhile (as fonts come and go out of fashion and as new faces are created), this is a novel and fun way to see what fonts convey the attitude/atmosphere you want to create. Mr. Samara's book lists various styles such as business, gothic, humorous, etc. and shows samples comprising several pages of current typefaces for each desired effect. It's set up as a typeface catalog under the various descriptive headings. As a designer I appreciate having a collection like this at my fingertips, and highly recommend this to anyone who works with fonts and typography. It stays on my desktop - it never finds the bookshelf!

What a bargain!
About a month ago, I bought the One Step at a Time series (3 books with the workbook) for AutoCAD 2007 in ebook format.The whole series cost me 30.24 - and I didn't have to wait (or pay) for shipping.Then I printed them all (in color) at work so I could reference them anytime I needed to.
This bites!
Having spent the last hour trying to download and open this e-book makes it much easier to understand why traditional printing has lasted into the 21st century! I suggest you guys try harder. I'm looking for a refund here.

Good book/series at a good price!
I bought the AutoCAD 2007: One Step at a Time series (including 3D and Workbook) and am very please with the product.I only had about a week to get up to speed with AutoCAD (I studied it in the mid-90s but haven't seen it since), and these books were very easy to follow and left me with a better-than-functional understanding of the software.I amazed myself with my final 3d drawing!

Look for 2003 Edition
I actually studied under Professor Leuptow for a couple semesters and was able to work with him on the latest edition.The new manual is based primarily on the same concepts, the production of the pizza cutter, but has been updated so that the little frustrating incompatibilites should be eliminated.I learned a good deal from his book and several months later was able to use my SolidWorks skills to help at a summer internship in a Biomechanics laboratory that was primarily using AutoCAD.All in all, a good book for those starting out who want a working knowledge of the program.If you are looking for higher level instruction, you might want to turn to someplace else.

Very Good Book for Beginning SolidWorks
The namne of the book says it all, ...Learning SolidWorks. This book is for people who wish to learn SolidWorks, it is not a book on 3D solid modeling, nor is it a book for people experienced with SolidWorks who want advanced assembly training, IT"S FOR BEGINNERS!!!! that's what the title says. right? Some Technical Problems
Well starting out, I was using Solidworks from 2003 and this one was really for 2002. However, the programs are very similar and the Help inside of the program itself can help you to realize when there are program differences present. I must admit that I did learn a lot from this book (most of the basic features and it boosted my confidence level) but I was only able to get past half of it in total because the program kept having errors even when I was following the directions. Also, there were some steps (like in the blade chapter p.44 where Geometry-pattern actually did need to be checked) and sometimes the author wasn't very clear (like which specific origin to choose when).Read more

Harnessing 3ds max 8 - A Book I've Been Waiting For
3ds max is a huge program offering literally thousands of different commands. What is doesn't have is something that says "Start Here." This is the first thing I found out when I was assigned to a project which was going to use 3ds max, and I had to learn it on-the job. I didn't have the option of returning to a university or even the time to wait for the next term to start, so I used the "read everything available" learning method. The book Harnessing 3ds max 5 ended up being the one that helped the most.
A welcome update to the series
This edition is an excellent revision of the previous versions. I recently acquired this one to replace my aging Harnessing Max 5. Although there are some nice color plates in the back, the real reason to buy this book is for the high quality exercises. While other books give you standard "follow-the-bouncing-ball" examples, the authors here give a thorough explanation of exactly why you are doing each step as you go. This provides a much deeper understanding of both the tool and the processes. The value of this approach simply cannot be understated. Even though this book isn't necessarily targeted for advanced users, I still regularly refer back to Harnessing myself to review certain topics when I get a bit rusty in spots. Max is a massive tool, and this book makes understanding it manageable.
