Not a good book to learn ,but you get free 60-day tryout edition
This book is not good for anyone.It has very few practice excerises and it skips lot of necessary steps which you have to figure it out by trail and error method.I found it very bugging .You get a 60 day trail version ,but the catch is it's a student version and has less capability than a commercial one.
BEWARE - Not A Good Tutorial
I was reading these reviews less than 2 months ago preparing for a graduate school class in which Pro-E was used, I never used Pro-E before (just AutoCAD).I ignored the one bad rating on this tutorial and bought it.What a mistake!!!This book will only give you headaches.The topics are very specific, it starts with a given part and makes some specific changes (which may be good for advanced work, NOT for a beginner).NO sections on just basic operations like sketches or making basic lines/curves.Many examples skip steps and you have to guess your way through.No explanations of core functions, like constrains (a function not familar to an AutoCAD user).LOOK FOR ANOTHER TUTORIAL!! Or just use the "Free" Pro-E help which I am now doing and it works quite well.

A very good ProE text !!
I am currently teaching ProE using this book as the main text.It has been written for learning ProE from a beginning level.It starts off with a chapter (Lesson) containing eight models that most students can complete in a few hours.Like running downhill, this really builds confidence and zeal in students.

Excellent Oracle reference tool
I was part of the Oracle implementation team at our company, and I have found this book to be a useful tool for myself in the year since implementation as we continue to explore new functionalities. It is also a useful tool for the application users to learn how Oracle works.In fact, I not only purchased this book for myself, but I have purchased copies for several other people in the company.I refer to it all the time.

Step by Step: Microsoft Office Visio 2003
I really enjoyed going through this book.It is laid out well and has lessons you can do to help you learn.

good, but 4th edition better!
The fourth edition of this book was excellent. I'm sorry to say this one is not quite as good, as hard as that may be to believe. There are two problems: 1) a large number of errors, (worst of all) many of which are concetentrated in the chapter on b-splines. 2) in many places the book over-abstracts, and i feel that blossom form is overused here. THE BIBLE for CAGD
I found this book to be extremely helpful in grasping the fundamentals of CAGD. The author's style is very informal and engaging (yes, despite the very 'techie' nature of the subject). The very liberally distributed illustrations give a good idea about 'whats-actually-going-on'?In all, a very highly recommended book, even if you are remotely interested in CAGD.

Harnessing AutoCad LDD
I did not care for the book. I did not feel it was written very well. It does not "read" well and is difficult to understand and follow the examples. I suppose, it is better than nothing and I keep it around as a reference only. Also, hardly and time is spent on the survey module only 1 example is given on runnning traverses.

Fully Comprehensive and an excellent reference.
I have more than five years using third party Acad applications for land development and I found this material systematic, well organized and easy to follow.The examples provided ( CD included) are sequential to the lectures which makes it an excellent didactic tool.On the other hand, the text does not cover the possible, or most common, types of reports that can be generated with the program in its differents applications. The overall organization is quite good..., however, if you have been using LDD for a while and have accessed the online help to learn the program, you may find much similarity in syntax. If you are new to using LDD, then it is worth the price of the book. A Great Starting Place
If you're just getting started with Autocad this is one of the two books I sincerely recommend. Use this one first. But at the same time get a copy of AutoCAD 2007 Bible, by Ellen Finkelstein.

Another too much and too little guide book.
As is usual with books purporting to enlighten you on the use of software, this book covers a great many subjects. The problem is, there is not enough depth on any of the subjects to help much if you are already a user of the program. If you have a detailed question, the likelihood is you will not find the exact subject addressed or if it is, the coverage is perfunctory. For example, the material on Gantt charts is less detailed than you will find in the help menu, so why bother with the book? If you have advanced far enough on your own to ask this type of question, chances are you won't find the answer either place.
This book was written for a programmer.
I am a programmer myself who didn't paid too much attention to MS Visio previous to my encounter with this book. Like the previous poster, I can "wink" my way through Visio for a fairly decent drawings, part of the reason for this is because I have worked with programs like Corel, Photoshop, video editing programs, Dream Weaver, Flash, etc, where I had to worked with various drawing tools, layers, rulers, zoom etc. Then suddenly I was offered a nice job with a well known IT company, and the position requires me to use MS Visio extensively.
Boy, this sure opened my eyes!
I just had my eyes opened to all that Visio can do by reviewing the book Visio 2003 Bible by Bonnie Biafore (Wiley).

An Excellent Choice
I am a Vocational Professor at Amarillo College in the Computer Assisted Design department.I have used different editions of this text for years to teach the MicroStation courses in our department.He covers basics thoroughly and provides excellent exercises using practical working drawings.My advanced course includes customization and 3D topics, all of which are included in this text.I recommend it highly.

Harnessing MicroStation/J is an adequate learning tool for beginners, but suffers from a lack of advanced topics.Several high level features are not even mentioned, ie. b-spline curves and surfaces and plot tables.Theindex is very weak.The few entries that are there, use obscure programnames for features, instead of common subject names.Read more

Better than his other one.
In first year engineering at Simon Fraser University, many of my classmates and I absolutely hated Mano's other text, "Logic and Computer Design Fundamentals (2nd ed. updated)". However since I have picked this text up I have found Mano to be much easier to read, but that could be because I have adjusted to the material and his writing style.

Easier Autocad
I have four Autocad books.This one is far and away the best of the bunch.It is comprehensive, and most important to me, it is easy to understand. My computer went through a major system crash which took just about all my programs with it.I had to reinstall Autocad Lt. and then reconfigure a bunch of my personal customizations.I could not have done it without this book.Whenever I have a question about Autocad this is the first reference I reach for.

The book is extensive. However, if you are looking to learn 3D max, you'd better look for something else! This book is a reference guide more than anything else.

Tolerancing for Dummies
A very well writen book I had no problem understanding the text and the examples given for creating objects was very simple I picked up on creating tolerancs very easy I would recemond this book to anyone starting out doing tolerancing

Understand Geometric Tolerancing
Was reading the new rev. of the ARINC 600 Spec. Used a co-workers copy ofof Geo-Metrics III to figure out a tolerance note I wasn't sure of. Thisbook has the clearest descriptions of Geometric tolerancing with detailshowing how to read and apply notes I have ever seen. I immediately copiedthe title pape so I could get my own copy. By the way, I am anelectro-mechanical engineer.

Excellent book for college drafting course.
This is an excellent college level text.I particularly like the detailed "real world" drafting problems for the students. Also it has a very good apppendix. It is comprehensive enough that we use it in threedifferent courses here at Vincennes University.

Helpful Resource on CSS
I found this book to be helpful in learning some of the basics of CSS.Perhaps, like you, I googled my way around online trying to find solutions to problems that I was encountering.I liked that this book had many of the solutions already written out in the book that I was having problems with.I have been familiar with HTML, but I was late in adding CSS to my websites.I know that there are large benefits with using CSS, and it makes your life eaiser, but I found learning CSS from scratch to be somewhat daunting.From the novice perspective I found this book to be exactly what I needed.There are larger books out there, but I really needed just the basics.
CSS Clearly Explained
I highly recommend this book. I am not a specialist in web design, but did have a certification in HTML/XHTML before reading it, so I had some background. Major topics are Web Typography, Page Elements, Links and Navigation, Lists, Forms, Tables, Page Layouts, Print-Friendly functions, Hacks/Workarounds and miscellaneous designing issues.
Good Reference for All Levels of CSS Developer
I've recently had the pleasure of reading CSS Cookbook by Christopher Schmitt, published by O'Reilly (the people who put animal pictures on their tech books - seems silly, but now you know exactly who I mean, don't you?). While I do not recommend it as a beginner's guide to CSS, I recommend it for the bookshelf of current CSS developers, or perhaps if you have a basic knowledge of CSS (maybe you use it control fonts and colors, and that's about it) and would like to implement even more of your design with CSS.

Good reference for implementers who are familiar with NURBS
This book is best for those who have at least become familiar with Bezier and NURBS curves and surfaces and want to start implementing some programs. An Essential Foundation
I own many books on the subject of NURBS. I always come back to this one while programming NURBS and reading research papers. It provides a fantastic foundation. It is an older book, so don't expect recent research to be included. For those that also want to know how to do ray tracing with NURBS surfaces look here: This is a definitely a math book, not a programming book !
This book is complete, but there is too many math formula. The composition is appr. 80% formula explanation, 10% sample and 10% algorithm. So if you are a programmer you are wasting 3/4 pages of the book. But, since there'sno other book about NURBS, as complete as this, youmay want to buy thisone or else you can take a look "Mathematical Element for ComputerGraphics".
