1-0 out of 5 stars Book: A Big Mistake
I purchased this book to enhance my knowledge of Pro/E. I have been using Pro/E for over 6 years. Purchasing this book was a big mistake and a waste of my time. This book is very second-rate.The instructions and procedures in each chapter are not clear, correct nor complete. The quality of the illustrations are poor.It looks like the book was produced on a copier machine.
1-0 out of 5 stars A Disappointing Tutorial
I've used many different CAD systems for over twenty years. And, now I'm learning Pro E.This book is very disappointing for several reasons.First of all, the instructions for each example are not complete and very difficult to follow. And, there are very few pictures of the command menus.Worst of all, the parameters of each command are not well explained as to how they relate to each part example. And, it has no Index. So, it is difficult to use as a reference.I've decided not to continue using this book and to look for something else that is less frustrating to use.If any of you know a really good Pro E tutorial, please let me know...

3-0 out of 5 stars A good book but........
After completing this book you would have developed a fair amount of working knowledge. But the exercises given in this book leave you irritated by the time you reach its assembly. Too many errors. The drawings provided for components are at the best misleading (not all). You start assembling and you wonder why they are not constraining properly - that's coz u got the dimensioning wrong. At first I started documenting errors. But midway just gave up as it's an unending saga. While practicing the tutorials, if you skip through paragraphs, you would definitely miss something or the other. So you have to read each and every line with utmost attention. To be fair, if you have time, this is a good book.... but again it could be much better. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars hands on guide
This book is geared towards the synopsys synthesis tools (as evident in the title). It gives brief explanations about vhdl and verilog coding style (which can be found in many other books).

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Organization
This book has very poor organization. I would not recommend this book to a beginner.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to VHDL, but light on the details
This book is a fine introduction to VHDL, well written in the early chapters. Unlike most VHDL books it covers the language from a higher level, including fundamental concepts like test benches that seem to be buried or lost in other books on the subject. It could use a lot more detail, though, and the later chapters seem rushed, and also dated in some areas (VHDL 87 vs. 93 in particular). And as others have mentioned the examples seem inadequate. If you buy this book, you might also want to get something with more detailed examples to go with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect introduction
This book provides a perfect introduction to the field of vhdl for synthesis. Very simple and it almost cover the main topics of the language in an efficient way. The book does not provide a detailed description of the language but the level of introduction is sufficient for anyone with little or no background in VHDL. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A collection of papers at best
I am a graduate student of solid mechanics and I have read quite a few books on FEA. Of all the textbooks I have read-this is clearly the worst. The authors don't spend any time to make the material coherent and organized. They seem to have published this book just for the sake of establishing their names in the field. It is basically a collection of research papers on the subject. The worst part of the book is that the authors use excessive verbiage to describe extremely inportant concepts with little or no mathematics. This leaves the readers confused and disoriented. This book is not for those looking for an introductory text and is useless to even those experienced in the field. Avoid this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not an undergraduate text....
This book was used to 'introduce' us to finite element analysis. To say the least, the book is very had to follow. For an undergraduate text book, I don't recommend it at all.The problems are very difficult and assume you have a lot of knowledge on other subjects. Also there are close to no examples. This would be a great book for graduate classes or those seriously interested in the theory, but not for the intro introductory class, unless you have a super great professor.Because of my bad experience with the book, and how I found it difficult to grasp, I give it only three stars.

3-0 out of 5 stars In need of a solutions manual
The material in this book is great, but I think the problems are difficult. I am in need of a solutions manual. Please contact me at jjoseph86@hotmail.com if you know where I can get one. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I Read this book Cover to Cover
Overview
4-0 out of 5 stars Electrical Engineering Student Review
While the book contains useful information, a great deal of it is available online in various places, though it is a good all inclusive reference. I think it will come in handy in the future as well as for the finer details of my Design for Manufacturability course. At times the content can be a bit dry, but that's to be expected from about any textbook.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book!
I can't imagine my learning process of FEA without this book. It's really good and comprenhensive. It is nice to read and it provides clear explanations to difficult topics.I believe this is a must have!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic intro to FEA
This book provides a great intro to FEA in general befor eit actually starts ANSYS Tutorial. The book is strictly for beginners .It contains very less details on Batch files ,nonlinear problems etc.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good intro, but does not go far enough
I bought this book hoping it would make my job of developing a finiteelement model using ANSYS easier. But I did not learnmuch of anything newfrom this book. I was already familiarwith finite element theory and alsotook the intro to ansyscourse offered by ANSYS. I had hoped that thisbook would gobeyond what was offered by these two sources, but sadly itdoes not. Still, for the beginner who knows next to nothing of f.e. methodsand ANSYS this is probably helpful. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Best Pro Engineer Book Available
While fairly good at describing how to use the tools available in Pro-E, the Definitions and explanations of conceptual use of these tools is lacking. I do not recommend this book for people who are trying to learn Pro Engineer on their own. Use of this book is best in an setting where an experienced user or instructor are available for assistance.
1-0 out of 5 stars Very Bad buy, software is sheer torture
I bought this book with the intent of studying and learning. But..it wouldn't activate. After some help from PTC and resetting the URL to the right version it loaded, including the license activation. OOPS! the CDs are outdated, program shuts down. (No help whatsoever from PTC with this issue, they're clueless). Getting hold of the author, 2 new CDs are sent out immediately (But I did pay for the postage). The CDs are loaded, ProEngineer starts up, but can't download ANY of the files that the books uses for lessons because the new student version is inhibited. While the book gives good instructions, the rest is just pure incompetence. This course will teach you to really hate ProE before you even start to learn it, and frankly compared to Solidworks and Inventor Version 8, this is some seriously outdated software with weird file structures that tells me I'm running a mad mix of old software and patches to make it look "new". Just awful. I might get it working but I've been struggling with it for some 10 days now. I feel like I've been ripped off and if I don't get it working soon I want my money back from Amazon.com

1-0 out of 5 stars Software doesn't work
Software doesnt work and PTC is not taking responsibilty for this. Without the software this book is worth $20. I am absolutely disgusted with what I got after paying $95. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars High quantity, but average quality
This book covers a huge amount of topics related to the automation, organisation and control of production systems.
4-0 out of 5 stars From a student point of view
Lacking important concepts from 1st edition that should have been in the chapters on production mathematical models. (Scrap, Time In Plant, etc.)Good descriptions of general machine automation processes.Good overview of NC, CNC machining, covering more in these chapters than some texts associated with only this topic.Good overview chapters of industrial robotics, PLC control and programming, in-plant material handling, manufacturing system schemes, assembly systems, quality control, Statisics, inspection and planning.Overall a very capable text. When coupled with a well developed laboratory, would be a text for a very complete college level Industrial Automation course.

As an IT techie, I found this book really amazing for people who aren't professional in this field. As a matter of fact it lists everything you want to know, step by step in order to get to the result you want. More advanced features are explained to take your drawings to the next level but a more dedicated book might be needed to get a more professional result. But for a start it's a great book. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars "Introduction to Mathcad 2000" misses the mark!
I believe a book entitled "Introduction to Mathcad 2000" ought to be an orderly exposition of the basics of the Mathcad 2000 program and progress on to more complex areas with meaningful examples. Exercises for the student ought to emphasize concepts and demonstrate the use of the program with answers supplied to reinforce correct usage. This book falls far short of the above goals. The book starts immediately with a sample calculation that does very little towards explaining the overall view of Mathcad 2000. The second chapter starts with a 2 page diatribe on global warming which has nothing to do with Mathcad 2000. In the following chapters, the author dos a fair job of covering some of Mathcad 2000's abilities but the examples used are often not well explained. The practise exercises do not have answers or in many cases, do not indicate what point the author is trying to make. Many pages are devoted to long, involved problems that are not suited to teaching Mathcad. In all, The book is only moderately useful as a reference but poorly suited as a Mathcad 2000 text. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Optical System Design
This is the exact book i needed. It is an excellent summary of optical principles, and their utilization in optical systems. The design examples are great for illustrating the underlying principles. The level is great for professionals (as a review), or for anyone wanting to learn the principles of optics design. I highly recommend this book, there are lots of references for deeper study. This would be an excellent textbook for a class in optical design.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to SystemVerilog for the experienced
As an experienced hardware designer who wants to know what SV is all about, this book was great. It introduced the langauge in a natural way, explained what is synthesisable and is more readable than the LRM. You can also download the book examples from the author's website. This is the audience that this book aimed at and it hits the mark, especially as most designers can get the company to pay the high price of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Autocad 2006 for Dummies Review
Anyone who has attempted to use Autocad in the past knows that it is a very formidable task. At the present time I have only gotten into a few chapters of Autocad for Dummies. What I have read so far is written in plain English and is very easy to understand. I have high hopes for the rest of the book. As with any technical course, the material must be read and reread a number of times to absorb it completely. It is structured in a logical manner and addresses a wide spectrum of AutoCad techniques which I find very helpful. I am confident that with the help of this book, I will eventually be able to produce a usable drawing. Looks to be a good buy!!!

Middlebrook writes in a deliberately breezy and informal style that is characteristic of the Dummies series. He explains the very latest 2006 version of AutoCAD. Necessarily, in an introductory book, he does not go very deep into the full extent of AutoCAD. But given just a minimal maths background on your part, you should be able to quickly lay out simple two and three dimensional objects using his advice. That maths mostly involves a good grasp of trigonometry and algebra.

First, this book is copyright 1997, and six years is a heck of a long time in this industry.Second, the book makes almost no reference to vehicle applications, which are a very important CAN applications and in fact where CAN started. For example there is no mention of SAE J1939 heavy truck bus standard, which is CAN based, and J1850 appears only once.

Apart from the usual disclaimer for software, that the software may not work at all it reads 'Springer-Verlag or, its designee, has the right to audit your computer and electronic component usage to determine whether any unauthorised copies of this package have been made.' This is unacceptable and it means I have not been able to look at the software, apparently a CAN simulator that accompanies the book. ... Read more
