5-0 out of 5 stars Integrated view of modern CMOS technology from the world expert
I've read a number of books in this field - Plummer, Wolf, Campbell, Sze, Madou. Each book has its strength, and Plummer's book stands out in terms of its broad, in-depth coverage of modern silicon CMOS technology. It doesn't cover MEMS or other exotic nanofabrication.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent source on MODERN silicon vlsi technology
The best part of this book is that it covers modern fabrication technology. I expecially liked the approach of introducing the complete CMOS fabrication flow in the beginning. It puts a context to following chapters. It is what I call system level approach for slicon fabrication. There is also emphasis on measurement and simulutions that are missing from traditional books. Both these are essential to modern technology. Also, I was very happy to see details on manufacturing choices - e.g. LOCOS vs STI. Explanations are clear.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent combinations of basics & updated research
Before this book was published, Wolf & Tauber's book was the only goodreference I had. Plummer's new book has a thorough review of basicprinciples, very well updated parts on current manufacturing equipments(Wolf's book also has extensive coverage in this respect). The best part inmy opinion is oxidation & diffusion parts where the authors are one ofthe leaders in current research. The book not only focuses on the specificdetails, but also gives an integrated view of the whole CMOS fabricationprocess, which I enjoyed a lot.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This books is worth its price ... technically sound
Technically sound contents, deep review and knowledge, no beating around the bush.A must reference for engineers who work with smartcards, its application and develop related systems. This book covers broad range of topics within smartcard technology. It is worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars SmartCard Bible
This is really a bible. It includes everthing you need to know about smart cards. If you can read German order the new edition of "Handbuch der Chipkarten" that was published in September 2002. However if you are new to that field or starting to develop or maintain desktop applications that use smartcards and you need quick introduction to smartcards' inner details you should buy "SmartCards, the Developer's Toolkit, 2nd edition".

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb
Extremely broad and deep review of smart card technology. This is an essential item on the bookshelf of any engineer, designer or architect of smart card systems. Exhaustive material on card technology, security applications, production. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Tube Amp Book - Good, but not a DIY guide
I am building a 50 watt tube amp based off of Marshall & Fender designs; somewhat of a hybrid. I bought this for the schematics and such. The book is more of a history of tube amps, info on the parts/tubes & schematics, but it is not a DIY book. If you do not know what you are doing and you want to build your own amp, this book will not be a help. If you already know how to build one and need schematics and would also like to know the history of amps and the parts, this is good book for that. Also as stated in previous reviews, the schematics can be very hard to read, some are handwritten or bad copies, but with some work, can be read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for someone with no tube amp knowledge
I orderd this book because I had no idea about tube amps. I became interested because I recently purchased a Blues Jnr 15W amp. Every thing about this book is quality. If there is a downside, it's the use of rings for binding, which means care has to be taken when turning the pages. The info in this book is amazing, if not a little bit overwhelming for a newbie. I'm sure that with time I will understand the majority of the technical stuff. I can't say if there are any "bad" technical articles, because I have no knowledge at all at this time. The History section is both fascinating, well written and set out with many quality photo's. The text draws from the authors personal experiences and knowledge. He seems to know his stuff. Although not exhaustive, it seems to be a well rounded history of amp manufactures. The circut diagrams are fascinating, if not overwhelming for there number. The supplied disk has 801 diagrams, with 330 odd reproduced in the book itself. They seem to be fairly reasonable quality, but some are hard to read. The magnifing function of adobe acrobat can be used to overcome this (at least for the diagrams I looked at). I was after a book on guitar tube amps that was not to specific or specialised. This book seems to cover just about every base (including maintanence tips). Absolutely facinating book. Highly recomended!
3-0 out of 5 stars Good Book but...
This book has to be on the bookshelf of every electric guitarist. But I am sitll giving it only 3 stars because the title of the book is VERY MISLEADING. This book is not about "tube amps" it is about tube "guitar" amps. For anyone looking for historical, pictorial collection type of book about guitar amps then this is it. I liked the technical section of this book where the author talks about popular tube types used in GAs and there are also tube characteristics and curves! Also schematics which may or may not be useful to anyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good Introduction
Written in 1998 the book is getting a little long in the tooth and needs some updating. However the principles of many types of MEMS tranducers are covered as well as the basic process technology. It is probably the still best introduction to MEMS you can buy. The organisational structure of the book make it a good starting reference as each topic is dealt with in a fairly self contained way.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good reference
This book is a good reference for graduate level reading and MEMS researchers. The author writes clearly and does a good job of highlighting important work in the field. However, the main problem with the book is the organization and the multiple forward references. Many terms are not explained the first time around (and appear two sections or a chapter later). The references are not numbered and are somewhat difficult to look up by name. The same problem with figures. The book classifies sensors and actuators according to their primary function (mechanical, thermal, optical...). Accurate references with page or section numbers to other chapters would help particularly with such a classification. Madou's "Fundamentals of Microfabrication" book and Sze's "Semiconductor Sensors" book complement this book nicely.

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential book for anyone interested in MEMS
Without question Kovacs' book on micromachined transducers is the most comprehensive book available on MEMS to date. This well-written book on MEMS transducers reflects his broad knowledge and understanding of thefield. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Comprehensive
This book provides an excellent overview of all aspects of semiconductor manufacturing. Many books on semiconductor processing focus on the "front end" processing: ion implantation, lithography, thin film deposition and so on.These are, of course, critical steps in manufacturing integrated circuits, but there are many other aspects as well, such as metrology, clean room management, particles, yield management, material handling, and waste management. This is the only book I am aware of that covers everything. As the author of the CVD chapter, I may not be 100% objective, but I have found this handbook to be a great reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars good intro& basics book on electricity and basic electronics
Excellent textbook. Presented in a textbook format with plenty of pictures, easy to read and understand. Linear learning curve. Explains ins and outs of electronics and electricity basics, easy math (no two-pageformula derivations!). I found it a great resource for brushing up for myelectronics tech certification. Recomend to anyone who wants to know howelectricity operates, with references to real life. Straight to the point(thorough basics, and minimum fuss).

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good on hand reference
It provides an efficient and valuable on hand quick reference to the industry.Depth of the content is also right for marketing and management people who need some knowledge of the field. The book is however, too simple for Electronic Engineer. On the other hand, the pictures inside are not in good resolution.Anyway, If you need an efficient reference, it save you at least several days or weeks time in browsing internet for your requested information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Handy Packaging Handbook
Three competing technologies are presently battling for position in the high density microelectronics packaging arena. In this book, Ken Gilleo has corralled all three competitors - Ball Grid Array (BGA), Chip-Scale Packaging (CSP), and Flip Chip - in a singlehandbook that is a comprehensive reference, problem solver, and get-smart-fast source for packaging engineers, designers, production engineers, manufacturing specialists, and those from all of the otherdisciplines associated with microelectronics packaging. 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, THE Area Array Packaging Handbook is out
There are many books on packaging, but all of them do not discuss ALL the area array packages in details. This one does! This book include BGA, CGA, CSP, FLip Chip, HDI and MEMS. What make this book so cool is that it not only mention on the making of these devices, it also includes how to use them as in assembly. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An intriguing book...
I bought this book the other day, as I have often wondered exactly how boolean logic got instantiated in electronic devices, but couldn't seem to get past the first few pages of most intro texts. The author's style of writing is very engaging, and easy to follow.I was able to get through the first couple chapters sitting in the book store!I am looking forward to finishing the book, as it promises to provide me with a good grounding in this area. The biggest difference I saw in this book was the careful stepping from boolean logic at a simple level to more complex logic while simultaneously showing how it can work in circuit-form.Most books give the basics, then jump right into the circuit design as if you already get how to make the leap, (and I couldn't seem to get there on my own!!!) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for hobbyist, but full of typos
Joe Carr has a very clear writing style and illustrates all concepts with simple circuits. His general approach is that of an electronics technologist educating a hobbyist or technician. He does a great job atthis, but unfortunately devotes no effort to proof-reading. His books areflawed by numerous mismatches between text and schematics, impropersymbols, etc. This will be very frustrating for the novice and obscures thepoints involved. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Fabricating Printed Circuit Boards
This is a 236 page book. The first 106 pages describe the author's preferred method of making PCB's using photo sensitized boards.Other DIY methods are mentioned in passing and rejected as being flawed. The next 118 pages describe the workings and construction of a data logger that the author's company makes. The final 12 pages are the glossary and index. If you're into building the author's data logger you've got the right book but for reading a thorough description of PCB methods (as the title and ed. review would lead you to believe) I believe you'll be disappointed.Bait and switch.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the do it your-selfer
this book clearly describes the steps needed to fab a PC board in your own cellar.Takes you through every step of the process and introduces you to most of the industry standard terms.Another reviewer mentioned that this book doesn't talk about the current state of the art in the PCB industry.Thats because the book is written for the home hobbyist wanting to make a PCB for themselves. If you need 3mil laser etched buried vias, hire a consultant. If you need PCBs quick and easy, you wont be dissapointed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Where Electronics Begins by Clive Maxfield & Kuhoo Goyal
This a fantastic book for non technical staff, new to the EDA industry. It has become fundamental to our sales induction training program and has had a significant impact. Our new recruits get up to speed with the terminology much faster and gain a much better understanding of the industry and our company's place within it. For non-technical types, the world of EDA can be a daunting place and this book has helped our staff gain their confidence quickly and start feeling at home in what is otherwise a very alien environment. And as a trainer, it has saved me an enormous amount of time.Read more
