I should have listened.... Very basic!
This is a book for beginners, not even intemmediate level readers. If you are familiar with any other design software like Illustrator, Photoshop, CorelDraw, etc. you will find that much of this book is useless since you already know it! This is a perfect exapmple, quoting the book:
Excellent source
As an intermediate Actionscripter, I find this book incredibly useful on a daily basis. It's well-organized and well-written, with several juicy tips and tricks.

Basic Flash information presented as a 'cookbook'
Hardly any information that would constitute as worthwhile if you have a decent grasp of Flash. There is entirely too much elementary information here.One recipe is a small excerpt onhow to create an invisible button by only putting content in the hit state of the button. Also, although the cover reads "Using the Flash IDE to build Flash animations and applications", it includes entirely too much information on Swift3D in a Chapter discussing 3D in Flash. The chapter should probably have been renamed "Creating 3D in For Flash using Swift 3D" instead of the misleading name "Simulating 3D in Flash". ... Read more

Very Comprehensive
I am an undergrad and I think this is a great introductory book. It is extremely comprehensive and detailed. I highly recommend it if you really want to learn the material in detail.

A good book
This book is a very good book. Care has been taken to explain details very carefully. There is an extensive list of problems to tackle. But I'd suggest that a reader use this book in conjunction with another more elementary book, Electroinc Principles by Malvino becuase for some readers the extensive usage of mathematical analysis might prove to be a 'turn-off'. However, for an undergrad course, one needs to know what is given in the book and when used in conjuction with Malvino, it makes a winning combination. Overall, a good book.

Detailed theory, great as a reference
The book is very descriptive in the area of theory but less so in the area of fully worked problems in use as a classroom textbook.The organization of the book material from one topic to another could be better.Read more

Good book
I think that this book clarifies all the aspects concerning Nanosystems, wrote by Mr. Nanotechnology: what is, how it is viewed, its possibilities.
The foundations of atomic level manufacturing are well laid out
I could have used Drexler's Nanosystems book to prepare for a huge chunk of my doctoral qualifying exams in physics.Drexler lays out very well the limits and constraints that nano-engineers will have to deal with, like the perturbations to nanosystem manufacturing due to thermal energy.
Excellent Resource for Molecular Nanotechnology
This book is highly technical and assumes the reader's familiarity with physics, chemistry and the like.It was worth studying.I highly recommend everyone reading this book as the subject matter is inspiring.This book describes the inner mechanics of our (hopefully not too distant) future. ... VERY PRACTICAL, GET TO THE SUBJECT VERY FAST
I had the 5th edition in college and bought the 7th edition for work and it helped me a lot in Transistors circuits design. It is easy to read and it doesn't give you too much theory that is sometimes confusing. Lots of example and even how to interpret Datasheets. very good..
as the previous reviewer notes.. there are some design pitfalls (like the equations in the front cover).... but these flaws do not effect study at all Needs a big internal facelift

Good overview ... a bit thin on some subjects
Good power electronics textbook.I use it for my power electronics courseat Worcester Polytechnic Institute.It covers a lot of material well,including switching power converters, thermal and magnetics design.It's abit thin in some important subjects, such as current mode control.Read more

The book is one of the worst of books I have read
If one wants to learn jpeg2000, he can look for some papers and source codes which are better than this book. Great Work
The author of this book is a genius. His work should be required reading for all. Definatly one of the great minds in our time.

Know why you're buying this book
This book is quite good but any potential buyer should know exactly why he would buy it and if it really matches his expectations. Indeed, this book is hardly a helper in implementing jpeg2000, but more a reference book for highly skilled image processing professionals/researchers. It is divided in two parts: the first part is about general image processing topics and provide some explanation about the choices made for jpeg2000. It is the "theorical" part. The second part is about jpeg2000 itself. The latter could have been much more practical and better directed to implementors. In fact, I was thinking of this book being able to clarify some aspects of the norm that are quite blur, but I find the way it is written, even for the second part, overly complicated and scientifically oriented, not "engineering" oriented. Most of the topics are better explained in the norm itself than in this book, even if the latter is much more detailed. Clearly there is room for another book on the topic but this time directed to implementors, with less theory, less scientific notations, are more, much more, real world examples working on real bit-streams. ... Excellent Introduction
This book covers many of the topics in Sedra and Smith, but does so in a very understandable manner. Examples are well chosen and clearly explained. Far clearer than Sedra and Smith.
excellent - but 1st ed is better
Great book - the best compared to many others in the market. Most university entry level electronics texts are useless to students - too damn hard to read. Most authors were probably too busy trying to impress - resulting in something which is, yes, complete and blah and blah, but totally useless to students. No, not this book - it took pain to ease a reader into the material. But, unfortunately, the 2nd ed has lost much of that refreshing "innocence" of the 1st ed and conformed to be more like others in the market - too bad. ... Read more

Well illustrated introductory treatment
This is an introductory text, and not at the same level as Yariv's books or Rosencher's Optoelectronics or Chuang's Physics of Optolelectronic Devices, etc. However, holding this book will not break your wrist (like Saleh and Teich's Photonics, another good introductory text) and is on a similar level to Saleh, but not as exhaustive. Not Good
I usually do not take time to write a review. However, if you are considering using this book to teach a sensors course, do not! THere are multiple mistakes within the text,including grammatical errors and incorrect equations. The questions at the end of the chapter are good, however the answers in the back of the book are incorrect at least 25% of the time. The organiztion of the book isgood for me, but until the errors are corrected, do not use this edition. ... Read more

Probably the most frustrating and poorly informative book I've ever read
Title pretty much says it all. For each item covered the coverage is peurile and sparse. Each example tantalises you with lore, only to keep most of it hidden inside the authors' brains.
Good Stuff
This book does a good job of filling in the holes the online help leaves when it comes to the autmoation object model. I found ti very helpful. Much better than the other Micorsoft Press books I've purchased.

Good Coverage; But...
quite out-of-date unfortunately... Especially on the coverage on switched-capacitor circuit techniques. Do not choose this book if you want to design modern analog/mixed-signal circuits, for instance, sigma delta modulators or low voltage (lower than 3.3 V) switched-capacitor circuits.

A very usful, practical (and good) book except that.......
I bought this book a while ago but didn't really read it (it cost me a lot to buy this book). I almost sold this book two years ago but nobody wanted to pick it up. How lucky I was!!! Recently I need to implement algorithms for a wireless Modem, and I need many tricks for such like sin(), cos(), arctan(), 1/x.... and I couldn't found other books talking about how to approximate those functions for real world application until I got this book from the basement, and suddenly I found this is the book that can show me those practical skill in the real world problem!!
