5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely thorough, understandable, and well-written
I am a Computer Science student and purchased this book to learn Flash for use with a project.I am very pleased-I think the book has very thorough descriptions and examples, and also offers great advice about design issues and other important considerations when developing a project.
4-0 out of 5 stars Ok
I have not seen the other Flash Bible Books so therefore gave it a 4 star rating. Also i am a tad dissapointed, the book itself has a lot of info (which the first few chapters is basic stuff) but it also seems that this may be the same content as the other Flash Bible books. It does go over some of the new Flash 8 features like the filters, however i was hoping the book would contain the new "BitmapData" and bitmap caching but it did not. Also maybe go over the timeline effects even if it is simple to understand. Had these features been included it would have been 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars The examples alone inspire ideas.
I honestly cannot believe how much information this book has on Flash 8.I mean, when you get your book, just looking at it you can see how much information it has. This book answered all of my questions concerning flash 8, and inspired many new ideas just from the examples in the book.If you want to spend money to make money, this book is definitely where you should start. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for VLSI DSP
It is very nice book, all the areas are explained in a very clear manner. This is an example for How the book should be!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Detailed,and thorough,an excellent book
Though being a beginner in VLSI systems, this book helped me get the grip in subjects I considered extremely difficult to grasp. It is well written, with many real-life examples and offers the reader wide range of knowledge . I think it is not only useful but absolutely indispensable for students and professional engineers alike .

4-0 out of 5 stars high speed circuitlayouttechniques
I bought this book based on a friend's recommendation seven years ago. I have used this book along with Henry Ott's book as a desk top reference for the past seven years.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the final word by any means, but a good introduction
Add Johnson and Graham to the list of people who can write large, highly technical books full of useful, pertinent information, and package it all in a way that's mostly very readable and which mixes just the right blend of rigorous academic structure with good old-fashioned "when all else fails, you might get away with this" hacks. This book is by no means a thorough, academic grounding in the subject matter, but it works well as an introduction for people who have some background in conventional electronics, yet little or no background in the specifics of high-speed digital design.
5-0 out of 5 stars Mostly a very solid book
Great book.BTW, the author lists a LOT of errata on his website, enough to take over an hour to mark up my copy (5th printing).Although it's nice he documents this so well, it's a pain in the rear, so you may want to verify the edition you're buying to avoid this extra effort. On page vi, above ISBN, look for reverse sequence; example: "10 9 8 7" indicates 7th printing (cryptic, I know). Most recent printing is 15th edition (least amount of errata). The book is loaded with equations and diagrams. It would be nice to see more derivations, but at least the equations are there in the text, and in the appendix.I thought a few other reviewers were a bit harsh. The book is not perfect, but nevertheless a great resource. His second book is impressive, but more advanced; this original title is my "workhorse" book.also, check out his website (sigcon.com) for lots of articles and resources. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars tackles a conceptual discontuity
Agarwal and Lang offer a pedagogy to tackle a serious disconnect that often arises in this field. At the low level of physics and electrical engineering, the EE student learns of basic device physics of such circuit elements as a PN diode or a MOSFET. Everything here is inherently analog. So you get I-V curves that characterise the devices, say. The book gives this good coverage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginner and Intermediate Ogre users
This book guides you through getting Ogre set up on Windows and Linux as well giving you a very firm base of knowledge of the engine. This book is definately aimed at new users, but I have been using Ogre for over a year and still found this book to be helpful and enjoyable. The author does a great job of giving clear explainations and examples!Overall a wonder book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
The book is very good. It is definitely aimed at a newcomer to Ogre, but it can be useful even for people who have been around Ogre for a while as they might be missing a few concepts or not be familiar with a few components that they might not have used before.

5-0 out of 5 stars valuable
As a graphic designer, I spend most of my time on the computer and have sorely missed creating with my hands. This book is bringing me back to that in an exciting way. Contrary to some reviewers I am very glad the book doesn't indulge too much in Photoshop instruction (although it does give information aboutPhotoshop that is most relevant to the processes, like print specifications). That would be a waste of space because there are a gazillion Photoshop books out there, but these techniques are much more rare and need as much space as possible to teach them. The authors do a great job of this. Very clear, thoughtful and succint writing. No wasted words.
5-0 out of 5 stars DEFINITELY INNOVATIVE !!!!
If you are a serious printmaker this book is a must have.It shows you how to combine traditional printmaking with digital printing, printing on different substrates, has great pictures and much more. YOU DONT NEED AN EXPENSIVE PRINTER TO FOLLOW THIS BOOK.I have an EPSON 1280 INKJET ($399) and it works great. The ideas and possibilities are endless. I highly recommended this book !

5-0 out of 5 stars Technology and creativity
It's good to see someone use technology creatively. All too often "art" and "technology" are seen as mutually exclusive. These authors show that that is certainly not the case.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappoiting
The book is too theory-oriented; not suitable for engineers. I felt disappointed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book.
Difficult Side
2-0 out of 5 stars not a good starting point
This is not a good book to start with. The book by Gray and Meyer and Hurst and Lewis is anyday much much better than this book. This book does not care to explain the meaning of small-signal operation and analysis and even such basic important aspects such as biasing and more subtler aspects in later chaters in feedback theory etc etc. It is not at all a good starting point. The excersises are good. Still not at all comparable to analysis and design of analog integrated circuits by gray and meyer... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent comprehensive text
To me, this book's greatest strength is instant applicability of theories and recipes presented in it. Virtually all topics in SAR are covered with great quality. There is no hard tie to any particular type of radar signals, which makes it very versatile.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best texts on SAR signal processing
SAR imaging owes a lot to inverse scattering theory, coherence theory, Fourier optics and holography. Luckily, Soumekh comes from an optics background and therefore, is very comfortable with all the optics stuff. He has done an excellent job in presenting different modalities of SAR imaging like stripmap and spotlight and implementing the algorithms in matlab. There is a lot of depth in his book and every time I read it I understand something that I could not understand when I read it last time. I have become a fan of Soumekh. I also attended one of his tutorials based on this book in the SPIE symposium in Orlando Florida.

4-0 out of 5 stars nice applications with heavy computations
Wasn't there once a time, in the depths of the Cold War, when Synthetic Aperture Radar was highly classified? It is still jarring to me to see a book like this, telling all and sundry about the many applications to which it can be directed.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than an Actionscript introduction!
Although this book is ostensibly a "beginner" book on Flash Actionscript (no previous programming experience necessary), I got more out of this book than you can imagine, and I'm not done with it yet. I've already got a few favorite pages that I come back to again and again.
5-0 out of 5 stars great user forums, excellent book
I spent $525 on an ActionScript class at SFSU, and I learned next to nothing. On top of that the teacher didn't like you sending him emails and asked you to save your questions for class. Fortunately for me this book has been all I really needed. I basically wasted the class tuition because this book covers ten times as much as the class did and David Powers, one of the authors of the book responds to my questions generally within 24 hours on the Friend's of Ed User Forum. Because of the forum I would say this book is invaluable. The book alone is good, but actually having one one the authors answering your questions has me give this book my highest recommendation. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This is a very well written book on multirate SP.You don't have to be a DSP expert to understand what's being explained.Prof. Harris has over 40 yrs of teaching experience and it shows in the clarity of his examples and explanations.I use this book actively in my system simulations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Multirate Signal Processing for Communication Systems
Since fred harris is my all time favorite professor I may be a little biased. From what I have read so far it is in keeping with his style of being able to explain complex subjects in an understandable manner. After 30 years in the industry I am still using the tricks he taught me.

4-0 out of 5 stars If the figures were more professional, that will be better
The content of this book is very attractive and helpful for both students and engineers.

4-0 out of 5 stars plenty of practical advice
Bogatin puts a lot of practical advice and details into this book. He goes down into the device physics of the circuit elements, in order to derive fundamental formulae for such quantities as the loop inductance of a circular loop. The text also explains ideas like a ground plane and power plane, and why you need to maximise the decoupling capacitance between power and ground.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book for an SI novice like myself
I love this book. The author does a great job of explaining the fundamentals, which makes it an easy reading.Rarely am I able to read a technical book cover to cover as I did with this book.Just as a comparison, other SI books go in depth with too much mathematics w/o explaining the underlying physical phenomena.Sometimes the equation derivation in those books are kinda skimpy, which may leave the readers frustrated.I think this is absolutely the best book for a someone new to this topic!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introductory book
This is a real book. It is not one of those cut and paste jobs where "authors" throw together material covered in other places. This author has gone through pains to simplify things, explain common misconceptions, and add his own insights. All books should be written like this. I have read many books covering Signal Integrity and yet I still learned a few new ideas and it clarified things for me. It was a joy to read. There are a few things that could have been done better including some of the figures which look like they have been created by an amateur, but these don't take away from the overall good effort.

3-0 out of 5 stars Review on microsystem design
The book tries to cover many different topics at the same time and sometimes makes a quite messy work. However, the book has very good chapters and not so good ones. It provides a good introduction on MEMS fabrication, but a more interested reader will find difficult to fabricate MEMS with the given information. Chapters 5,6,7 and 8 are excellent, but chapters 9, 10,11 and 12 are incomplete and not easily understandable for a Electrical Engineer graduate student. Chapter 13 begins with general equations to be simplified considerably later, giving the impression to the reader that he has learned only a little about fluids. Chapter 11 is quite confusing and chapter 12 lack examples in 2D and 3D lumped models. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars very clear in the quantum treatment
it is surprising to find that textbook like this did a remarkable good job in exploiting the density matrix formalism and also the related theoretical techniques in quantum dissipative systems. If you are interested in the quantum treatment, Chapter 3 and 6 are great!

5-0 out of 5 stars very good buook
It is a very good book:
4-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but nonetheless the best available
The field of nonlinear optics is actually much more general in scope than the name implies, and it finds large intersection with quantum mechanics, atomic physics and physical chemistry. It has applications in virtually all physical and life sciences. It's thus surprising that for such a useful and interesting subject, there would be such a shortage of good books! Fortunately, this book is excellent, and covers the subject thoroughly in both theory and application. An interesting feature of the book is that it covers the basic theory first from a classical perspective (i.e. nonlinear dipole polarization) and then rederives the basic results from semiclassical quantum theory. While the dielectric approach alone is adequate for solving problems (in fact, the quantum approach is useless in practice) the quantum background is fascinating to read and greatly helps in developing an intuitive picture of the physical mechanisms behind nonlinear processes. Boyd makes the nice choice of using Gaussian units, which is foreign to anybody but theoretical physics snobs but which eliminates a lot of useless notational complexity. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Refreshing supplement for revision
This book is a carefully written one which will enable any student to revise thoroughly before DSP exam. It has an outstanding collection of solved problems like most other Schaum's outlines. This book is to be used as a supplement book to any standard DSP book like Oppenheim or Proakis & Manolakis. This book can make quite a lot of difference in final grades of most of students. So, it is advisable for any UG/PG to revise this book well before exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good as a refresher or supplemental text in DSP
This outline could never stand alone as a DSP tutorial, but it is excellent if you need extra problems to solve or if you need a refresher course in elementary DSP topics. Chapter one starts where any DSP course usually starts - with a quick review of signals and systems. Chapter two is on Fourier analysis and discusses all of the basics including the concept of filtering, interconnection of systems, and finally the discrete time Fourier transform and its properties. Chapter 3 is on sampling, and includes a good discussion of analog to digital conversion and how it can induce aliasing. Next the converse, digital to analog conversion, is discussed as well as discrete time processing of continuous signals and finally sample rate conversion. Chapter 3 is especially useful, since most DSP texts do not go into as much detail on practical A/D and D/A conversion topics as this chapter does. Chapter four finally gets into the z-transform - its definition, its properties, and its inverse. Chapter 5 is about the transform analysis of systems and specifically how the z transform makes the analysis of such systems much simpler than what was done in earlier chapters. Chapter six discusses the discrete Fourier transform, which is a finite-series version of the DTFT, which was discussed in chapter two. Because the Discrete Fourier Transform has a time complexity of NxN, the next chapter discusses its more practical alternative the Fast Fourier Transform, which has an NlogN time complexity. This might seem trivial at first, but if you are filtering 1Kx1K pixel images, the difference becomes significant. Although this chapter is very brief, it does a pretty good job of driving home the main points of the algorithm. Also, it has some pretty good exercises on the FFT, which are usually hard to find in textbooks. Now that all of the groundwork has been laid, chapter eight discusses the implementation of discrete time systems, which is the essence of DSP. Common filter structures are introduced. Chapter 9, the final chapter, is on filter design. Both IIR and FIR filter techniques are introduced. Thus, if you are in an advanced DSP course, this outline will probably be too elementary for you. For first semester students, this should be a very helpful outline for transitioning from the study of linear systems to DSP.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginner....Not for advanced
This book is truely for beginners who have no clue of signal Integrity. He starts this book with stuff like Ohm's law and how capacitors and inductors work which most people learn in high school.
5-0 out of 5 stars Probably the most readable book you'll find on this
Brook's book is exceptional in the clarity of the writing, esp. in explaining key concepts that most engineers are fuzzy on.This book is great at giving engineers an intuitive feel for basic electromagnetics and how it relates to signal integrity and emi.4-0 out of 5 stars A chasm has been bridged...
As an educator, lecturer and practicing designer I am given many books to read and make comment on. I find very few books that are able to bridge the chasm between the needs of a beginner learning about signal integrity and the needs of a professional desperate to solve design problems. This book is an excellent primer and reference for understanding the interrelationship between the board layout and the signal integrity problem. This book details design solutions to classic signal integrity problems and educates the novice in understanding the reasoning behind the solutions. There is a lot of nonsense being written about signal integrity and few people have the resources to filter out the chaff from hay. This book proves every principle presented with tested board layouts, demonstrated engineering principles, or documented laboratory results. Some people can see the world in formulas and some see the world pictorially. This book is rich in both forms of expressionism and its presentation will not exasperate the PCB designer who sees the world visually, or frustrate the engineer seeking equations for design representation. This book has been added to the required reading list for our PCB layout designers and product development engineering teams. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The second edition of this well-known and highly regarded text can be used as the basis for a one- or two-semester undergraduate course in signals and linear systems theory and applications. Topics include basic signals and systems concepts, linear time-invariant (LTI) systems, Fourier representations of continuous-time and discrete-time signals, the CT and DT Fourier transforms, and time- and frequency-domain analysis methods. The author emphasizes applications of the theory through numerous examples in filtering, sampling, communications, and feedback. The parallel development of continuous-time and discrete-time frequency domain methods allows the reader to apply insights and intuition across the two domains. It also facilitates a deeper understanding of the material by bringing into focus the similarities and differences between the two domains. The text also includes introductory chapters on communication systems and control theory. This book assumes that you have a background in calculus as well as exposure to complex numbers and elementary differential equations. Because of its thoroughness and unhurried pace, this text is highly recommended for students and those interested in self-study. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Well Written
It is probably the best book on the subject which I have had. It was the reference for my undergraduate signals and systems course. It is both good as a text book and a reference. Very well written! explains the concepts very clearly and has a lot of good examples and end of chapter problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good introduction to signals and systems
As a non EE undergraduate, I needed a book to prepare my for the rigors of an MSC degree in DSP which builds heavily on basic foundations such as Fourier, Laplace and Z transforms. I spent 3 months reading the book (while working) before starting the MSc and I found that it was exactly what I needed. There are plenty of examples, which for me are a vital ingredient in any book that touches this area--there is no way to learn without examples and this book excels at them.
3-0 out of 5 stars Best example for "Popular opinion also may go wrong"
It is a popular book in the Signal Processing Arena. But it is still questionable if it is a better if not the best book around. This book is a comprehensive one, no doubt. But it is more wordy and becomes stereotypic after a point. It tests the reader's patience if he is not informed about the above fact. Some students even start developing hatred towards DSP courtesy: its way of presentation. Though many students might rate this book as one of the classics in DSP, the statement is arguable. It is high time this book undergoes major revision and the presentation is made crisp and more user friendly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Electrical Engineers
Great book as it is very clear, methodical, and gives great examples in which you can actually follow unlike some others.I would also recommend going through the problem sets from the authors website online as it really helps solidify the concepts taught in this book. This book is highly recommended for budding VLSI designers or engineers who just want to learn a little bit about VLSI design!

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok for transistor level ...

3-0 out of 5 stars It's ok...
A so-so book.Sort of sloppy, doesnt' quite stand on its own without a course to guide you through it.There is some good information in this book; the chapter on transmission lines is quite good. There are also some more practical design examples in the latter half of the book.I'd recommend the Weste book instead. ...
