5-0 out of 5 stars A good book for novices
Although it is a little bit old and there are so many other books on the subject, I still think that it is one of the bests. This book gives you a good basic knowledge of wireless circuits and systems. It's a good reference to look at too. In general, all books by BR are good, he is an incredible writer. His books are always very good to start with when you don't really know anything about the subject. As you get to know the subject more and more, you will know the value of the book and will discover more practical stuff in it. I totally recommend this one and all his books.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK book, but buyer beware
This book covers a good deal of material in a very hot area. However, coverage is uneven with occasional mistakes. The book seems to be collected in a hurry some lecture notes. For example, the formula for the relationship between jitter and phase noise given at the beginning of the book is wrong (even units do not make sense) and is not the same for the expression given in the PLL chapter (it makes more sense).
2-0 out of 5 stars Content seemed great, but not explained in detail
When I first bought this book, I was very hopeful. The book seemed to cover a lot of relevant material, in a concise fashion. When I tried to read it however, I found it a little bit too much on the concise side. I have read very complicated books with a lot of math before, and I could follow them easier than this "easy" writing style. Almost every subject is covered in other books in more detail and better. Sometimes it's nice to have a simpler book which is an introduction, and that is what I was hoping for, but this just didn't do it for me.I donated the book to the library,as I felt I would never really get too much out of it. This didn't stop me from buying Mr. Razavi's "Design of Analog CMOS ICs " and I liked his tutorial in the IEEE Phase Lock Loop book he edited.I know he can do a better job. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Must have reference book
The only reason I give this book a 4 star rating is because of the information that was removed from fourth to fifth edition. To serve as a complete reference you must buy both editions. The topics covered are significantly different.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not for designing PCB
I bougth this book to have a reference on the desing of PCB. (How wide to design the traces, what distance should i use betweeen traces...)I found it prety useless.5-0 out of 5 stars No set complete without this reference book!
Complete coverage by a number of writers with diverse backgrounds. The highest praise I can give is that I use it daily! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Im a little worried
I just finished reading chapter one.I know it is quite early to make judgements, but already I'm starting to feel uneasy. As someone who has always enjoyed physics and math(and done well) I feel a little more insight into what is trying to be explained would be great.Im a student at the authors institution so I think thats why we have to use this book.I agree with others that there is a lot of waisted commentary so far, but it may prove to be usefull later. It just seems like a lot is thrown into one chapter and doesn't really mix well.More time, or more explanation about what is trying to be explained would greatly benefit the first chapter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Overall
I'm an undergrad physics/engineering student.I thought this book was reasonably well written and clear. It could benefit from more example problems, and some solution techniques.
3-0 out of 5 stars Wordy, some explanations are not clear, can be better.
I finished chapter 7. The authors do not show each step how to get the equations. Instead, a lot of math steps are missing. Unless you are good at math and recall all the fundamental physics equations, you will spend a lot of time to derive the equations by yourself. Without derive the equations, you can only accept the results without any insight. This book tries to cover introduction materials and more advanced materials.

5-0 out of 5 stars ActionScript Components: One of the best tech books I have seen
I don't know Antonio De Donatis, but I wish I did.
5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth it!!
As a java coder who has recently been writing Flash/Flex for rich database-driven UI products, this book has been a huge help. My understanding of the best way to use inheritance and the component architecture has improved a ton with this book. And the section on skinning has helped alot since the UI guys just give me pretty mockups, and then i need to actually make them look and work that way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book for electronictechnicians.
This book is very helpful for anyone interested in troubleshooting electronic circuits. You don't have to go to college to learn electronics because this book has two years worth of college inside.I give this book five stars for it being such a useful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good presentation of both beginning and advanced material
Of the several computer vision textbooks that I haved owned and read, this book provides the best combination of introductory techniques with more advanced material in a very readable style.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Intro. Text I've Used
This text is excellent as the basis for an introduction to CV, it treats a wide variety of topics in a clear and accessible manner. I particularly appreciated the books coverage of topics which aren't traditionally considered to be CV topics (like classification and some material on probabilistic inference). Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction guide
The book presents a nice complement to Image Processing, Analysis and Machine Vision (Image Processing, Analysis, and Machine Vision, 2nd ed., M. Sonka, V. Hlavac, and R. Boyle, 1998, IPAMV). As the difference in names implies, Computer Vision is not appropriate as an image processing textbook. It contains sufficient information on image processing to implement computer vision algorithms, but the focus of the book is on image analysis and high-level vision. The result is that the combination of IPAMV and Computer Vision cover the spectrum from intensive image processing and manipulation to high level analysis, object recognition and content-based image retrieval.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent book for advanced DSP topics
This book has great material on least squares filtering and spectral estimation techniques. And with Hayes providing the Matlab code to implement the formulas, it is a great help to the student in being able to run the code and see what the outputs should look like. The book reads well and is very easy to use. But it is not a substitute for an intro DSP book like Oppenheim/Schafer or Proakis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clear, concise, and clean
This book very clearly explains advanced topics in DSP. The notation is consistent and very clean, as well as the book layout and the writing. The examples are useful and the review section is very helpful. This is how a technical book should be written.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome book
Clear examples, clean derivations, and easy to understand style has Monson Hayes' his signature written all over it.I have his schaum's outline on DSP, and its just as good.I haven't finish perusing this book; i am currently on signal modeling (ch.3, i think) where pade, shank and other methods are derived, and i've already found plenty of application to work on.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very practical and easy to read
This is probably one of the best books in the market today for test engineers and product engineers. Most of the discussions are oriented towards catching some of the common mistakes made during the development of a test methodology for a circuit. It teaches test/product engineers what to look for when they encounter test problems(which keep popping up very regularly!). I would have appreciated a more detailed chapter on the statistical analysis of test data and analysis of datalogs to determine test issues but I guess that would take up much more space. I would also have preferred reading about some case studies where test issues were investigated and the solution found, but that too would have taken up some space. In all, this is THE book for test/product engineers who deal with a myriad of testers in the market today. A Quick solution of test related issues is key to huge savings in production costs and reading this book end-to-end will definitely aid in the debug of test related issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good reference (for all ... beginners to experts)
Hi..

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful EMC book
This book makes learning EMC as easy as counting one to three. Very logical, easy to understand, and makes you to think how EMC can be fun and challenging. A very good reference book, easpcially if you love to see things simplified mathimatically.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good book
I consider that this book is avery good start point to introduce oneself into the EMC topic. Clear and pedagogic with a lot of numerical examples and well chosen exercises.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book - Read it all.
Starting first with the negatives, of which they are four.First, do not be fooled by the title word "introduction."This is NOT a book for beginners, but rather senior engineers. If you are new to EMC this is not the book for you.Second, information relative to FCC/CE requirements is dated. Also, some tests relative to CE compliance are not covered.Third, though there are many diagrams, there are almost no pictures. In many cases I found a picture, as opposed to a diagram would have been far more explanatory.Lastly (though it does not bother me in the least, but I thought you would like to know), the book has numerous typos through out its 752 pages.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Better than his other one.
In first year engineering at Simon Fraser University, many of my classmates and I absolutely hated Mano's other text, "Logic and Computer Design Fundamentals (2nd ed. updated)". However since I have picked this text up I have found Mano to be much easier to read, but that could be because I have adjusted to the material and his writing style.

Editorial Review

It isn't easy finding a job these days and for those working in the creative fields like graphic design, illustration, photography, filmmaking, and music, a digital portfolio is just the shiny object you need to catch the attention of a prospective employer. But you can't just slap a few files on a CD and call it a night. As Cynthia Baron points out in Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars comprehensive material.
Most artists can't do everything - usually they are somewhere in the middle of a chain of production responsiblities that don't include the skillsets involved with presenting a portfolio, digital or otherwise. Many points of insider knowledge are invaluable - I was on the cusp of using PowerPoint for my CD portfolio (my wife has strong skills with this) before being warned that this bussiness presentation software's would be viewed with derision by art directors, and that a high resolution version of a website format is the way to go here - this one parcel of knowledge was worth the price of the book alone, but it is far from the only lesson imparted. Highly recommended - it doesn't stray into realms of esoterica for the sake of pagecount.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great beginners guide
This handbook is targeted at beginners in designing portfolios to submit their artwork or photos when job hunting. It is filled with information, however most is very basic and will only be a review for most readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb resource for a wide variety of portfolio formats
If you set can aside the near 100% focus on digital media (though it is excellent for that kind of format) and not hyperventilate in feeling like you need to come up with Flash or DVDs after reading this, it offers solid points on portfolio content, whatever format you choose.

5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent treatment
We used this book in an advanced undergraduate/early graduate class in computer algebra. The book provides a concise and rigorous, but very readable introduction to computational algebra theory, with algorithms written in pseudo code.4-0 out of 5 stars Clear and understandable, but some bugs
I found this book very useful as a reference while writing a smallcomputer algebra system. It's a definate must-have for all the hordes ofpeople out there who are rewriting subsets of Maple, Mathematica, etc.Theexplanation of the theory is relatively clear and helpful so that anot-so-theory-inclined person (such as myself) can understand the material. The cost of such clarity is a loss of some conciseness so someone wholives and breathes abstract algebra may desire a more esoteric book (likeWinkler's). The biggest flaw of the book are the poorly debuggedalgorithms.Almost every algorithm presented in the book has some sort ofminor flaw with serious reprecussions on correctness. This results in muchfrustration if you're actually trying to implement the algorithms. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Newbie thoughts on Flash@Work
Although I was new to the world of actionscripting when I purchased and read Flash@Work for the first time, I rather enjoyed the read and its logical approach to scripting. In particular it gave me a solid starting point regarding how to plan and build real world projects which I am still learning.Flash@Work introduced me to the concept of modular design and beginning with the end in mind which is invaluable with flash projects.Overall, I recommend Flash@Work however, I suggest you pick a primer on actionscript first before digging into this book.Concepts and project are well explained and most importantly projects are practical in scope.

5-0 out of 5 stars Zero to Sixty in no time

5-0 out of 5 stars If you are serious
If you are interested in creating a professional quality web site(s) with Flash 8, get a grip on yourself and understand it is not simple. Flash 8 is an intense program for serious people. This book is a great start, in what will be a long road of learning. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good treatment of core subject, but difficult for beginner
I am new to phase-lock loop design.Like most recent EE grads, I had one class in linear control systems, and some basic DSP classes, but thankfully that's enough to get started on PLL design.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This is my favorite book on phase locked loops in my entire library. It is an excellent book for actually learning phase locked loops from the ground up.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars grade B
This is certainly one of the best book written on delta-sigmas but a good book on the subject has yet to be written.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Univied, Consistent Approach
Much of the recent literature on digital signal processing has concentrated on the digital aspects of the task. The result is a surplus of books on the digital signal processing chips and programming techniques.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for Circuit Designers
Dr. Allen estalished methodological analysis and design principles of CMOS analog circuits, especially in op amps and filters. As the author's publicity tells, this book (and 1st edition) turned a magic of analog circuits and systems to straight forward design flow. As an analog and mixed signal designer, this book is always within my reach on the desk.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Analog IC Design Textbook but not Gray and Meyer
Allen & Holberg is a book you should add to your library if you are a mixed signal designer or applications engineer. It is particularly strong in switched capacitor circuits (ch 9) and A/D and D/A conversion circuits (ch 10).It is weak on high speed analog design, and weak in developing the intuition needed for analog design, something Gray and Meyer spends time on.I feel that the text reads much better than Razavi.go to www.aicdesign.org for the book errata.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book
It is an excellent reference book for the Cmos designers and wannabes, it is a very easy follow through and has very detailed examples, very good. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good addition to your motor control library.
Overall, the book presents fairly practical hardware solutions to motor controllers design from industrial, automotive, to appliances.5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive book on motor control
Excellent book covering all aspects of motor control. This book did a very good job of covering control electronics, intermediate drive electronics and power devices. In addition it covered distributed drive controllers, sources of noise, anddesign principals. It had examples of a range of motor drive types including AC, DC PM, brushless, etc.It relied a little too much on Motorola parts but all in all it was an excellent book and a valuable resource.
