4-0 out of 5 stars Expensive but well organized and easy presentation to read
I like building circuits and playing with electronics. It is one thing to build a circuit board from scratch and solder all the pieces into place and quite another to understand WHY it works.

Technically sound contents, deep review and knowledge, no beating around the bush.A must reference for engineers who work with smartcards, its application and develop related systems. This book covers broad range of topics within smartcard technology. It is worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars SmartCard Bible
This is really a bible. It includes everthing you need to know about smart cards. If you can read German order the new edition of "Handbuch der Chipkarten" that was published in September 2002. However if you are new to that field or starting to develop or maintain desktop applications that use smartcards and you need quick introduction to smartcards' inner details you should buy "SmartCards, the Developer's Toolkit, 2nd edition".

5-0 out of 5 stars BJT Explanation is the best I have ever read
This book is a great book in my opinion.I have not finished all of it but find it to be a great reference. The thing I liked the most about this book so far was the explanation of the BJT!!It is the best explanation I have read on the subject so far.The author clearly tries to show why the inventor of the transistor would think to use PN junctions characteristics to make the BJT, and how important the minority carriers play in the whole process, something entirely neglected in most other descriptions.I truly feel now I understand how a transistor works, and can analyze not only the npn transistor but the pnp transistor as well, and get why pnp transistors are thought of as being hole injected versus electron injected for the npn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book for Electronic Circuit Design
Bottom Line:This is currently the best undergraduate textbook for a first course on electronic circuit design.
4-0 out of 5 stars good book for design
I'm currently an undergraduate electrical engineering student at the University of California at Davis. While no design circuits classes are easy, I give this book a high rating because it is somewhat easier to read and understand than other circuits books I've come across in my time as a student. There are enough examples so that the student can figure out what's going on if the teacher is sufficient. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on mixed-signal circuit design
This is the best book I have found so far on CMOS mixed-signal circuit design. It is not only an excellent textbook for senior or graduate student to learn mixed-signal circuit design but also a "must have" reference book for circuit designers doing analog/mixed-signal design. The book presents not only the therectical background for data converter using SPICE modeling approach, but also the practical considerations for implementing data converters at the circuit level. The materials it covers about submicron CMOS circuit design has provided reader with necessary background and techniques (which are very practical) for transistor level design like no other analog textbook you can find.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent text for learning and for reference!
The book begins by covering basic data converter theory and includes methods for SPICE modeling of data converters. An important aspect to this coverage is that the metrics for evaluating data converters are explained clearly (this makes the book a great reference when wading through some of the spec sheets or journal articles covering data converters).Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular Book on Image processing
This is the book to have on the subject! It covers almost any aspect that you can think of in image/video processing. This is a MATH intensive book and it will not tell you how to directly implement any of its concepts in code. The author assumes that the reader will be able to do this on there own.Topics are very well explained, but sometimes I needed to reread a topic 3 or 4 times and go over the math a couple times to fully understand.Great book to have as an encyclopedia like resource on the shelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference for methods of image and video processing
There is a 2nd edition of this book that was published in July 2005, so all reviews earlier than that are referring to the first edition. Regardless, the second edition of this book is just as good as the first. There are many texts that do a good job of covering image processing, but few do such a good job of covering all of the aspects of video processing - motion detection and estimation, video enhancement and restoration, and video segmentation. There is an entire section on video compression which discusses the H.261 standard, wavelets and video compression, object-based video coding, and the various MPEG standards. There are also articles on video indexing and retrieval anda unified framework for video browsing and retrieval.
5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Book !

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent book in Advance DSP
This book is a must for any one who wants to read about Advance topics in DSP. Very informative book. It is a book of Proakis.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent content, average presentation
The high point of this book is an extensive collection of algorithms and an excellent set of references for further research. Each topic is dealt with in an orderly fashion so that the simple (and usually chronologically earlier) proposals in an area appear first, followed by more complex efficient algorithms. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This is the worst book I have ever used in my enitire college career.
This book was awful. Concepts are confusing, examples are lacking, and most of the homework problems do not represent the material taught in the revelant chapter.
1-0 out of 5 stars This book is horrible!
This is the book we're reading in my first EE class, and it sucks.Maybe if I had a great professor that actually taught and walked us through the practice problems it wouldn't be so frustrating, but he doesn't, and it makes trying to go through the book EXTREMELY difficult.
1-0 out of 5 stars POOR BOOK
I am forced to buy this book because my class requires it. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought this book. I can get better than or as good as this book for quarter of its price. The answer to problems doesn't come with the book (not a SINGLE solution to any of the problems) so there's no way of checking if you're finding a corrent solution to the problem which is most important aspect of learning. SO WATCH OUT BEFORE YOU BUY! (As u know most science books provide a odd number solutions to check the answers to problems and teachers give even number problem for HW) The link on the book promises student problem companion, but I had to purchased it for extra 17.95$ to get it, but very few problems with solutions (5-6 problems per chapter) were offered. In other words I am ripped again. So every moment I use this book I smelled a greed for money. The website for this is confusing and unhelpful and resources that seems useful are priced. In the end I would recomment anything other rather than this book for someone who is serious about studying electronics. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
This book is very good for understanding some basic circuits concepts, but it does not discuss topics like sequential switching, unboudned response. But overall, I would highly recommend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Understandable First Book on Electric Circuits
Since the reviews for most of the other first Circuit Analysis books I could find were fairly uniform in their negative opinion on the understandability of those books, I was worried about this book. But, since the reviews of the previous version were very good, I thought I'd give it a try.Basically, I'm very impressed with it.Since I'm working through the book on my own without any peers or professors available to clarify things, the book I use HAS to be readable. This one is.The authors clearly explain almost everything (there are a few minor omissions of (non-core) material that the authors consider to be Intuitively Obvious to the Most Casual Observer (i.e., stuff they thought everyone would have run into from everyday life)).Within each section of each chapter, they immediately follow every concept with several Examples showing how to work with the material and Practice problems for the reader to do.So, if you don't immediately understand the theory, there are several applications available to help you along. At the end of the chapter, the book includes:

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweeeet!
This is a great book! I'm not an electrical engineer, just interested in tinkering. I've been looking for a book that would give me some basic electrical info and some intro to bending. I thought I'd need two different books but this worked for me and did the job in an easy to understand way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for a beginning bender!
I purchased this book because I was interested in getting into circuit bending to create my own new instruments to use in tandem with our laptop-driven experimental music project. This book is great, even if you're not already an electronics geek.Very simple and direct. Also, Reed Ghazala has a totally appreciable geeky sense of humour.I was laughing out loud as I was learning.I recommend this book strongly to anyone interested in getting into circuit bending.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was so intrigued of circuit bending...
...but I was intimidated.

3-0 out of 5 stars covers a lot, sometimes awkwardly
Many topics in image enhancement, analysis, compression and description. The algorithms are usually 1 page or less of C code.
3-0 out of 5 stars a decent book
This book gives a good summary of theory as well as algorithm (in C code written to illustrate the algorithm rather than optimal performance). If you are looking for a high-level book that throughly explains theory then this is not the one. If you want theory and some example code then this is a good buy. The bibliography at the end of each chapter gives great pointers of where to go for more detailed theory. I would recommend this to students in image processing or professionals who have to acquire image processing skills.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed
I've been using Flash in my daily development process for over 3 years.I wish a book like this was available then, I would be a much more efficient Flash programmer than I am today.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wow I am Impressed
I am a Professional designer and I am used to the steep learning curve that comes with Adobe Programs (they are robust), How to Wow in Flash flattened that curve and made it not only easy to follow along but because of the way the lessons are presented I was able to trouble shoot and fix any problem I encountered do to typical novice mistakes or bad spelling in scrypts. That is the real joy and Wow behind this book. I now have an understanding of the program so that I can play and be creative all in a few weeks not years. As always Colin Smith has come through again with the high quality teaching experence I have come to expect from his web page,Photo Shop Cafe, and other books and CD's. If by the odd chance I run into a problem he quickly directs me towards the solution.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Flash book for Beginners and Intermediate readers
This book will teach you a lot of the fancy effects that design agencies are using in hi-profile work, but not forgetting to build a firm foundation on how they work and when to use them. I quickly found myself learning UI time savers and ways to achieve very interesting "unique" effects that added that extra pop to my work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended for Digital Electronics
William Kleitz takes a more practical approach which will benefit you now and prepare you better for the future, if you prefer digital over analog. Although I was forced to use Floyd's edition in college, Kleitz goes much deeper in detail for designing digital circuits taking small steps to learning, which then all come together as one. Generally speaking, all logic tables, using simple gates, their behavior appears static in all text books which are currently published. However, Kleitz reveals very interesting concepts and ideas, which appealed my interest in reading his book.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Comment to review from Cambridge
I just wanted to say, please ignore the previous review (from Cambridge). A good designer needs also a good theoretical base. One chapter might go a bit far but it's only one of many! It is indeed a true compendium!

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book
a good book for sigma delta modulator design. a lot of deep insight.

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive discussion of issues in sigma delta mod.
This is the only book I know of that gives such a thorough discussion on the state of the art in sigma delta modulation, including design tips and insight into the authors' own experiences.A necessity for anyoneconsidering the design of a high-order modulator. It is not an introductorytext, and does assume basic knowledge in signal processing and A/Dconversion in general. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The low down on Captivate for Windows
I have been experimenting with Captivate for 3 months (not continuously) to create training programs for our software products.Lets face it, Captivate it isn't all that complicated. If you are competent enough to put together a Power Point presentation then you are competent enough to use Captivate. It is really a fantastic program to create demonstrations or training programs. The problem that I ran into, like many Macromedia programs, is that there are usually little tricks and features that are hidden in the program. This book really outlines not only the basics of Captivate but digs down a little more and explains these hidden features.I looked at several books for this program and some were just too basic, in fact most were just Crayola basic. If you are looking for a book to show you the all the different features of Captivate including creating and editing movies, exporting, creating basic or in-depth presentations then this is completely the book for you.Heck, the book even gets into exporting presentations to work on a PDA....what else do you need? Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Publication
As Director of Training for a Macromedia Authorized Training Provider, it is my responsibility to review technical publications that relate to the software that we teach. Captivate has so many features that are not easily found by the new user. This book covers a lot of ground quickly to help you begin publishing with Captivate quickly and move on to the advanced features of the software. Job well done! ... Read more
