One of the best ASP.NET books
I finished reading this book yesterday and I am very pleased with it. The author starts by explaining some programming basics for both languages (VB.NET and C#). Then he explains ASP controls (html controls and validation controls). During the rest of the book, he develops a web-based intranet and explains many features of ASP such as ADO.NET, DataGrid and DataList controls, DataSets,etc. There is a chapter where the author explains how we can build a shopping cart and connect it to paypal which I found very interesting. The code is very neat and easy to understand. I totally recommend this book to those who would like to learn ASP.NET as well those who want to expand their ASP.NET knowledge.

Best .Net Book
The best thing about this book is someone like me who is new to the .DOT NET was able to learn & the paralell comparison between the VB & C# code is excellent. The only disappointment is that with the text book I was expecting a CD with Adobe Reader version as well. Which I did not recieve.

Excellent Book
The Chapters are really good and easily understandable. Point to be highlighted here is that the author has explained examples with SAP GUI Screen Shots. Great SD book for experienced consultants, too
I've been an SD functional consultant since 1993 and have recently started working on a very small project as the only SD consultant. Even though I've configured most aspects of SD, I haven't done it all, nor have I done it alone. Since I'm an independent consultant, this book has helped me to get a grasp of all that I need to do and what questions I need to pose to the client. This is the best SD book that I've seen - a definite keeper in my library.

Useful Book for the new user, no technical stuff
If you are a new SAP user, you should definetely read this book. It highlights the SAP basics, but if you are looking for more advanced and technical explanations you should search for other books.

Great collection of everything SAP, if your patient
If your willing to wade through the different focus, you will find this a very useful book. It is by no means complete but nonetheless highlights how SAP has evolbved from R/3 to mySAP ERP and Business Suite, and ties in and explains Netweaver and where ECC fits in. The authors jump around between user, business and technical topics and theres less screen images than the first edition. Overall it's a great buy though. ... Read more

Great book on programming new features
This book is clearly written and I feel it does a good job of covering the major new features of SQL Server 2005 well enough so you can get up to speed quickly and save enough time versus puzzling things out using just the online materials that come with SQL Server 2005 to easily justify the purchase price and reading time.A number of people with expertise in various aspects of SQL Server collaborated on this book, and the value of the information in each area reflects the depth of expertise.
great way to explore new features of sql server 2005 for professionals
i was looking forward for this title recently and i am happy to have read it finally. this title digs in deep in most of the subjects that i was not able to find out by myself with my sql server 2000 knowledge and helped me a lot while getting into the details of advanced olap and reporting services.
Great book!
Well, I have been digging into Andrew and Stephen's latest work for a few days now and have been very happy with the results. This book is comprehensive and covers the gambit of topics, including some favorites of mine such as T-SQL, XML, CLR integration, Service Broker, Integration Services, Reporting Services, SMO, and OLAP. A beautiful introduction to a beautiful technology... but wait for the second edition
I just read the beta version of the second edition cover to cover in just a couple of days, and I love it, the content as well as the exposition.The first edition only gets four stars, though, because the second edition contains a lot of updates worth waiting for.Even in its rought beta state it's a great resource, and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished book.

very good book.
implementation and design of classes wise this book is replete with ideas. Since this book dealt with FDM, which are either cubbersome or difficult to program say american options, better is to deal with FE methods.

Computational Finance made efficient
This book encapsulates all that is wonderful about OOP and shows how generic programming techniques (based on the STL) can be effectively applied to financial engineering and numerical analytic problems. The book requires only a first-course level knowledge of C++ (at the level of for example Ivor Horton's Beginning C++) and a first course level knowledge of Financial Mathematics (at the level of for example John Hull's masterpiece) and takes the reader on an entertaining journey through the basics of the STL and the applications of STL constructs to computational-financial and numerical-analytic problems, especially those relating to the numerical solution of partial differential equations. Also, the author makes a persuasive case for finite-difference methods and deals with a few subtleties of the Crank-Nicholson algorithm. For best results, it should be read along with a decent book on the Standard Library (for example the one by Nicolai Josuttis). Overall, it's a pleasure to read and learn from, on a par with Mark Joshi's little design-patterns volume, and more detailed!

The best book in c++ instrument pricing, period.
Let me just say that I have a few financial modelling books, from Dr. Brooks to Mr. Joshi, and this is the best book by far.It clearly explain how to price a particular instruments using this poweful language.The book uses Standard Template Language (STL), by doing so your code are more readable and much faster.If I only had this book a few years back.Now I must say this book is for C++ programmers and Quants you really need to know C++ from beginning to end, templates, pointers, references, classes or that stuff you need it. This is the only book that comes with working code, it doesn't matter what type of compiler you have the code in the CD will work.Mr. Duffy explains how to model one factor and two factor Black-Scholes equations using finite differences, options(vanilla, exotic),interest rate and much more.The CD even comes with an Excel driver to transfer your data to Excel. Quant superstar Justin London is coming with his new book in a few months, and that book might over take this one, but as of right now this is the best C++ financial pricing book around.You can't go wrong with this one. ... A very very useful book
I have been using this book a lot, in the recent months, and I am finding it very useful. I am not *at all* an expert latex user, but I do have decent programming skills, and I usually use a computer for hours every day, so my IT skills are decent, overall. For writing technical documents I have been using for years a fairly dated version of ScientificWorkplace, but I am now slowly switching to do more and more in latex, which gives me greater flexibility. What I usually do now is writing my documents in ScientificWorkplace, and then taking care of formatting and other unusual features editing the documents in Latex, through a program called WinEdt. In almost all cases, when I am in trouble with some commands or options, I find a clear solution in this book. For this reason, if your profile sounds a bit like mine, I would highly recommend this book. The new (fourth) edition also includes extensive references to the "hyperref" package, which is very very useful to create great pdf output that includes links to footnotes/sections/equations etc., bookmarks, and active buttons.

Not the best for absolute beginners, but great reference
For starting out in Latex, I recommend one of the many free online tutorials, such as the "not-so-short introduction to Latex".That will get you more than started.This book is a great add-on reference to that, and the level is just right: not too wordy, but easy to follow.It has much deeper coverage of how to do graphics and drawings, how to create a bibliography, how to create postscript and pdf files, etc, in addition to the basics, of course.

Brief, effective introduction to Latex
This is an ideal introduction to the TeX line of text formatting tools. It starts with a high level overview of the toolset. Then dives into document construction, then into tables, lists, mathematical formatting, and into user constructions and extensions for bibliographies, as well as other topics. PDF and Postscript formatting is covered. As well as AMS-TeX which is more extensions or mathematical formatting.

Great book to start getting organized
This book gives you great ideas about how to get organiazed and get things going. The only thing is that you will really need to use and get along MS Outlook pretty well, else you'll miss some of the tips and tricks in the book.
Take Back Your Life!
I'm not even to the end of the book and I already have my e-mail box emptied to zero, all my documents and files organized on my computer into an easy reference system so I know what information I already have. I am going to apply the same principles to my paper files this week. I had so much information stored and coming in that it is a huge relief to gain control over it all! All because I applied what I learned from this book.

Stong Emphasis on Up Front Planning
I am a veteran Franklin Covey planner user and consider myself very well organized and a strong time manager.Our company recently made the move to outlook, and I purchased this book hoping to get some tips on how to make the most of planning with outlook from someone who had a time management orientation.What I didn't expect was to learn anything more about time management.Boy was I wrong!Sally provides some real eye openers about spending more time up front planning tasks to get to "Strategic Next Actions" - tasks you can actually do without any dependencies.She also packs in excellent tips on setting up a reference system, handling email, and using the outlook task categories to their full potential.

Excellent Book
If I was going to buy one book for SBS, this would be it.Actually, I have a couple of employees that manage SBS, so we have two copies...
Very good reference
I agree with the comments of the other reviewers...but did want to add a couple of thoughts.The book is less than 700 pages, certainly not huge by Unleashed standards.Don't let this fool you.For example, chapter 13, covering Exchange Daisaster Recovery actually starts off with an incredibly clear description of the Exchange database structure.It just made the practices suggested in the rest of the chapter much more accessible.

Absolutely Great!
Advanced Modeling is a fantastic book, and pretty easy to follow with relatively few coding errors.There are some books out there that have errors in the code that they use, which makes it difficult or someone to learn the techniques.Even for those without a solid background in VBA, this book can benefit you to start learning how to code properly.Anyone who is relatively proficient with Excel can definitely gain a new trick or two from reading this book.All you really need to start using this book is a basic understanding of finance concepts (e.g. portolio theory, capital budgeting, binomial options pricing, Black-Scholes, etc.).The techniques that are taught are also useful in other modeling exercises, and not necessarily just for finance-related topics.

A Cookbook for Financial Modellers
Yes, the book won't teach you CAPM, Black-Scholes, or much financial theory.But there is NO shortage of those books.There is a shortage of books with real-world Excel solutions to applying financial theory to data.I've had this book for a couple of years and have probably only used 10% of it, only because I don't have time, real business need, to do the rest.I sometimes take it to bed to read and dream of having the time to try out some of their other models.That's the only thing I can add to the other reviews here, the amount of love and passion for the subject put into this book.There's not one extra padded word or graphic in this book.Yes, if there was one book I'd have to take to a desert island with Excel and some financial data this would be it.

Not really satisfying
One of the main points of programming books is to help the reader understand the models being programmed.On this count, "Advanced modelling in finance using Excel and VBA" fails miserably.There is very little explanation of the financial concepts and models.Anyone hoping to learn finance from this book will be very disappointed.Read more

Techie Help
Several years ago, before I retired, I used Outlook at my office and was quite comfortable with it.When I became a Comcast customer, they do not "support" Outlook so I used Outlook Express.When I was able to download Outlook, I needed a refresher course in operation and info on the upgraded version that I now had.This book helped in several ways, and I continue to use it as a reference book.It is easy to read and understand. ... Perfect for small projects!
Note: SPSS 13.0 for Windows Student Version cannot open data files containing more than 50 variables or 1,500 cases. Having said that, if you have less than 50 variables and 1,500 cases to deal with then this is the software for you. It came with a (brief) 227-page users guide that was pretty comprehensive all by itself. Order the SPSS 13.0 Guide to Data Analysis to go with it, and you have just about everything you need to fiddle with and learn the basics of statistical analysis.

Excellent for SPSS and statistics students
I have used this product in a research methods class and found it to perform quite well.While it may not have all the features of the full SPSS package it is more than adequate and does not require the student to pay the hefty fee of the full version.

Very disappointed
Beware - if you buy the student version it is not big enough to run the files necessary that you work on in class. Nowhere did it indicate on the Amazon site that it had limits of file size. Wouldn't one assume that if you are selling a "student" verson, that it will be able to run your school files?Don't buy it if you are a college student and need this software to complete your projects. I wasted $80 plus dollars. Didn't learn of its limitations until AFTER I loaded it, and when it wouldn't work found the limitation statement in the manual. Very disappointed. ... Read more

I think the Step by Step sharePoint book is an exellent book for the for the first time users

Not good enough
I'm afraid that I was not as impressed as the other reviewers.The book failed to mention that you need to have InfoPath installed to run some of the exercises.There is little of how a real world configuration might look.It does give some "click the screen" simulations of what the program might do.But then, you could get the same thing by installing it yourself.
A great introduction to using sharepoint services
If you have never used Microsoft's SharePoint Services, then this is a good book for you.

Non-Working Disk
The disk that came with the book is a data disk only, and does not contain the program that created the data.That is why the data disk is not a workable disk, unless you have The Medical Manager installed on your computer!The book is too geared to be used with the Medical Manager Software Program, and is difficult to read it as a stand alone book.
Medical Manager review
I am an instructor for the Medical Manager class and have been for over 5 years.I have used almost every version possible with the Medical Manager.This is a fairly good book for students to learn from.As long as the person reads the instructions and then looks at the exercises, they should have NO problems.However, if the person just looks at the exercise and does not read the material, they may have difficulty.Some of the exercise/pictures are different then the actual reading part but not too many.Overall this book makes it fairly simple to learn this program.

An outstanding addition to my library
An outstanding addition to my library, Edward systematically explores the presentation of data showing the value of data rich content when it is properly displayed.After reading half the book, I couldn't sit through a presentation without coming up with at least 3 ways to improve it.The illustrations in the book are beautifully rendered and cover a diverse set of subject matter each as interesting as the next.The only topic concerning this book that I struggled with is whether or not to mark it up.In the end, as I do with all of my books I intend to refer back to, I did.

I recieved this book along with the most excellent (almost a companion book) Visual Display of Quantitative Information, from my CEO. Since I work a lot with numbers and he had been stressing the importance of presenting data clearly and concisely.

"Envisioning Information" by Edward Tufte further fleshes out and expands the work he has done on presenting information.This volume is best suited for designers of complex information such as maps or schedules. As with his other books, it is richly illustrated with many colorful examples of well and poorly designed information displays.
