5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on estimation/Kalman filter
I don't usually write online reviews but this book is so clear and useful that I really want to recommend it to others. It is well written with a good outline and summary for every chapter. It also has a pretty diverse range of topics on estimation, including an introductory chapter on basic estimation approaches (e.g., ML, MAP, least squares), and very practical extensions (e.g., state augmentation, square-root filters). Even though I am not in EE and some of the examples are thus not particularly helpful to me, I still find this book one of the best of all the estimation/Kalman filter books out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars best standard book for target tracking system
I think any person who major in target tracking system related to the Kalman filter must see this book. This book present the fundamentals of state estimation theory and the tools for the design of state-of-the-art algorithms for target tracking. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent walk throughs
If you learn better through the combination of conceptual overview and detailed walk throughs you'll love Brian Larson's approach.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great overview
I would agree with the other statements about this book covering many aspects of BI.Unlike other books that focus primarily on Analysis Services, this book covers everything from data source integration to custom reporting.I was even a bit surprised to see a section on artificial intelligence as it applies to data mining.Just as the others mentiond, if it covered every aspect of each of the pieces of BI, the book would be too big.I would have liked to see more focus on the key elements to BI rather than briefly touching them as it does everything else.

3-0 out of 5 stars Save a tree
OK -- it's not terrible, but it reminds me of many books that start with "this is a field, this is a record, this is a table." It started fine - I learned the difference between star and snowflake schema, the benefits of a data mart, and the key feature of SQL 2005 Analysis Services that addresses the latency between OLTP and OLAP (it's a feature called Universal Data Model (UDM). All cool. The trouble begins in the subsequent chapters with the cutesy MaximumMinimum company and the painstaking, step-by-step "now you do it" approach. Which means you can only make use of the info if you're sitting in front of a computer. Not my cuppa. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not alot you don't know but good food for thought
If you've been around software much you won't really learn alot of new facts or specific details of legal terminology but Overly does have some good suggestions for how to conduct negotation over specific contract areas - indeminification, support, adding additional users - that were very valuable.
3-0 out of 5 stars Great Content
Pros: Must read for software managers
5-0 out of 5 stars Thorough and on target
If you develop or evaluate RFPs, acquire software, or even are involved in contracting for services this book is an essential resource.I'll be frank about the readability - it's tough to plow through this book. The authors are terse and the writing style dense. However, when you consider a typical license agreement, contract terms and conditions and the stilted language associated with them, if you cannot deal with the writing style in this book you'll probably find contract and license evaluation ponderous as well.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a book for Kernel Driver Developer
This book tells me what RootKit really means. One useful thing I got from this book was that in Windows Kernel even simple code can be used against security. And that's it. Most techniques in this book are primitive to kernel developers. I don't recommend this book to serious kernel driver developers. "Windows Internals" and OSR Online should be the way to go. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great way to learn SAS
This package, software and booklet, provides a great and affordable tool for leaning SAS.Unlike most educationally priced software, SAS LE does not require you to be a student in a degree granting program, and/or prove it with a student ID.Personally I am very impressed by the fact that SAS recognizes that "official" students are not the only ones trying to learn on a budget. The software is limited in that you can only display and process the first 1000 rows of your dataset, however this will be sufficient for most of the intended audience for this product, who are simply interested in learning how to use SAS.Another drawback is that the software expires, and will apparently not operate after December 1, 2008, so the value of the product diminishes with time before you buy it.The enclosed booklet is helpful, but not very in-depth, and you will probably want to buy the little SAS book or some other resource to get the most out of this product. You can see what procedures the software is capable of at support.sas.com/le, and there are some links to additional resources there too.For those who used the first edition of this software, you will probably be pleased to know that the annoying cartoon genie help character is gone, which makes the interface look a lot more professional if nothing else.Overall this is a great educational tool for learning SAS, and I highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars SAS Learning Edition 2.0 (SAS/EG 2.0 & SAS 8.2)
The SAS Institute has finally released a limited (record limit and expiration date) version that is affordable to anyone.
1-0 out of 5 stars Underwhelming
Make no mistake about it, SAS is a great product. But this CD and manual leave alot to be desired. The SAS webpage made it sound like this SAS|LE 2.0 CD would be robust, but with limitations to the amount of records you can use (to prevent it from being used instead of the real product). That is what I wanted: an app that taught me many of the features from SAS|base, SAS|stat and SAS|graph. It turns out SAS Learning Edition is a very stripped down SAS|base. The only thing it teaches is where to find the menus on the User Interface. The few simple descriptive statistics that you can put together are done just as easily in Excel or in free spreadsheet packages.

5-0 out of 5 stars i love GHH
i have read tonnes of books on this subject.starting from secrets of a super hacker by knightmare(published way back in 94, trust me dat was a great read n even 2day i find myself glued to da back as the first time i read it.now coming back 2 gray hat hacking.this is wat i would like 2 call the hacking reference book for the next generation.every one concerned about security should consider picking up this book.u might as well save some money n picking up more knowledge than any of the hacking exposed books in the market.no this book is not for button clicking script kiddies who play around wid trojans n claim to be hackers or web defacers(lamers).if u belong to da breed of script kiddies pick up this disgustin book by ankit fadia (oh by the way ive reviewed it).i wouuld liek to congradulate the authors for the outstanding work put into this book.howeever it would be great to see expanded materials on various topics and a little more detail in tool description.its not bad but it could still be better.so as i said before get dis book u wont regret it.so kiddies grow up keep those hacking exposed n ankit fadias books apart throw em in da firplace burn em do anythin .but go get dis one
4-0 out of 5 stars Covers more than the typical hacking book
"Gray Hat Hacking - The Ethical Hacker's Handbook" is not your normal hacking book. This book should not be lumped in with the "Hacking Exposed" series nor the likes of "Counter Hack".What differentiates Gray Hat Hacking (GHH) from other books is the amount of code the book offers. This book is not for script kiddies, but instead shows how to advance to the next level of hacking (and, more importantly, prevention) by devoting over 100 pages to developing programming skills for both Linux and Window exploits.I had not encountered a book that dedicated this much space to scripting.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great buy for every IT dept.
I bought this book from a store in D.C, and read it on my way back to India. I was impressed. Never found any book that deals with computer security and software vulnerabilities written so well. The reason I like this book is than others is because it does not only give you information that can help you in assessing your network security, but also gives you a basic introduction to the laws and legal technicalities. The contents of this book cover most of computer/network security related areas including technical implementation, planning, and defense. Therefore, it is not only for system engineers, but also for people managing IT departments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference for webmasters or small business owners
If you rate a computer book on how well it succeeds at being difficult and obscure, you won't like this one.It skips the geek pretensions and just delivers useful information, in a way that is accessable to small business owners and webmasters. The screenshots may not appeal to everyone, but I found them incredibly useful because they allow me to quickly find the screen I'm working on.
3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed Bag of Content
In a nutshell, Google's Analytics service is a web traffic analyzer and marketing performance manager provided for free to anyone with a Google account, but especially geared to those who participate in their AdWords program. This book serves as an introduction and walkthrough guide to Google's Analytics service for those that do not already know about it.The authors have written this title in a in a "for dummies" format, primarily for small web site authors and bloggers that have not had experience in web traffic analysis software before.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Find
Google Analytics is one of the best finds for those of us who find ourselves technically-challenged in a technically-heavy world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice book
A must buy for students or researchers who need numerical methods. Comprehensive topics. A good place to start to deeper levels. Online book is good for quick look.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic, and still worth having
"Numerical Recipes" has been a staple in computing libraries for many years, and for good reason. It provides immediately usable implementations of all the workhorses of numerical computation, in production-quality form. Maybe there are better implementations out there, FFTW for example, but getting something to work correctly always comes before getting it to work fast. Numerical computation is a specialty, and vanishingly few of us are specialists. As a result, getting this much specialist knowledge for the price of a very few hours' wage, fully debugged and documented, is a great bargain.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great compilation of numerical routines for C programmers
I found this book indispensible in my effort to develop profitable trading systems for futures and options and in my research in factor analysis and, more recently, in chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. Anyone who programs in C or C++ and works with mathematics must have this book. It covers a surprisingly wide range of algorithms: routines are included for everything from handling Julian dates and solving systems of linear equations to determining eigenvectors and singular value decompositions, solving differential equations, doing numerical integration (quadrature), not to mention calculating fast fourier transforms, lomb periodograms and maximum entropy spectral analyses. While not always state-of-the-art, the routines are quite reliable (when used correctly), clearly-written, and easy to understand and use. I would strongly recommend this book (and the companion software) to anyone who programs in C and is literate in mathematics. I always keep a copy nearby.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little Exchange 2003 Admin book
There have been several of these types of books published by MS Press.Several years ago I purchased the Exchange Pocket Consultant. These books, and the information provided by William Stanek, are great.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I spend most of my time working with SQL Server, but recently I had to take over and rebuild our Exchange. As I've had good success with Stanek's other books, I picked this one up the week before to help me get up to speed on Exchange, and it did an excellent job. I successfully upgraded, had all our servers up and running by Monday morning and we have an extensive multiple server configuraiton with OWA, wireless, and X.400 MTAs. Exchange Administrator Pocket Consultant is by far the one Exchange book I can't recommend highly enough. Get it, you'll be glad to have it on hand. I refer to this book constantly.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Are you interested in wanting to understand and implement the IPv6 protocol! If you are, then this book is for you. Author Silvia Hagen, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that covers IPv6 in detail and explains all of the new features and functions.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent discussion of IPv6 protocols
I read and reviewed "IPv6 Network Administration" (INA) in August 2005 and "Running IPv6" (RI) in January 2006.I gave those books 5 stars, so I had high expectations for "IPv6 Essentials, 2nd Ed" (IE2E).INA and RI are very hands-on, implementation-specific books.IE2E is more concerned with explaining protocols and IPv6 features. In this respect, IE2E is the perfect complement to INA and RI.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent 2nd edition contains lots of practical information
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is a network layer standard used by electronic devices to exchange data across a packet-switched internetwork and is intended to provide more addresses for networked devices, allowing, for example, each cell phone and mobile electronic device to have its own address. IPv6 is actually capable of supporting5×10^28 addresses for each of the roughly 6.5 billion people alive today.

5-0 out of 5 stars this book led me out of the wilderness of R
After weeks struggling with poor and incomplete online documentation for the R language, this book was a breath of fresh air.The first four chapters alone, which give a broad and practical overview of the R / S / S-Plus environment, are worth the sticker price. In case it wasn't obvious at first (and it wasn't to me), R is the open-source implementation of the S language, and as the authors write in their introduction, "It is similar enough that almost all of the examples in this book can be run under R."
1-0 out of 5 stars just a large collection of examples -- no theory, no algorithm descriptions
I don't understand how this book received so many 5 star reviews. In my opinion, it is a complete waste of money, and totally unusable. It is simply a collection of example uses of S functions, with little or no background statistical theory, motivation, or justification for the methods used, and no descriptions of the specific algorithms underlying the S functions used. This promotes the horrible practice of using "canned" statistical routines without knowing exactly what's going on or how results should be interpreted. It was so frustrating to be forced to use this book for a class at UC Berkeley.Luckily I found a MUCH better book by Chambers and Hastie (from AT&T, where S was invented).I suppose if you're just looking for a large collection of "things you can do with S", this book might be okay for you.Personally, I was so appalled by this book that I sold it as soon as I found an excellent replacement (Chambers and Hastie, "Statistical Models in S".Chambers and Hastie is excellent!I love it!See my review).

4-0 out of 5 stars securing your system
Kuo and Beland help the sysadmin who might be new to SUSE Linux. Conceptually, you can think of the book as two interwoved parts. The first part is explaining generic linux, or even unix, operations. Applicable to a Red Hat or Solaris machine, perhaps.

I was looking for a book that described in depth how the various cycles (e.g., Revenue Cycle) worked in conjunction with the various tables.Does an outstanding job with in-depth details where you not only learn the steps, but how the system is updated at each stage. Good material on controls, especially application controls that need to be built into the system.Normally I never look at case studies and assignments, but in this book, they were useful. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and detailed
Zalewski offers a nice overview of passive information extraction techniques. Each section covers one approach to the problem of determining something about someone's computer use without being detected. He provides an overview of the technology involved and then talks about how to exploit it.
3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
This is one of those books that you go HMMMMMM!!! Very Interesting, but most of the things in the book are hard to understand. Also, he jumps around alot like if he's having a conversation rather than an inside manual to Attacks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ages well
This is one of the few information security books that seem to age well: I reread it after over a year, and it still appears to be quite refreshing and up to date. This only goes to show the difference between books written out of genuine passion, and the rest. Big kudos to the author. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good reference
This book helped me a lot. I recently deployed over 250 ASAs and was running into a lot of problems with the IPS SSM and VPN features. I got most of my answers from this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Amatuer
What a waste of time it was reading this book. If you are not very familiar with FW/IPS or VPN then this may be helpful, but if you have been working with this technology and Cisco's products that address these technologies (ASA, PIX, IPS, VPN3k) then please don't refer to this joke. Go online to cisco.com and do the research. Sometimes it felt as if whitepapers were copied and pasted.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book on Cisco ASA.
I bought this book 2 weeks back for an ASA project that my company is going to deploy. I am really amused to see that each chapter starts off with an in-depth architectural overview of the features to be discussed. It then provides full step-by-step configuration examples with lots of deployment scenarios. It even covers many troubleshooting and monitoring examples that helped me a lot when I started deploying it in my lab network

4-0 out of 5 stars Book has all you need to Quick start ABAP objects learning
The Book is good to learn abap quickly. Its practical approach is the key. The software that comes in CDs is self sufficient to execute the examples...no developer keys are necessary from SAP. Installation is smooth. I dont have previous versions of MS SQL server.
5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent guide.
For those who beggin programming with ABAP within a OO perspective, I think is the perfect guide. Of course itsn't a reference book but it's a excellent point of start ABAP having in mind an OO point of view.

1-0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE
In order to use the programs in this book you will need to obtain a developer key from SAP. In order to get a developer key you *must* have a SAP customer number ... if you do not already have a customer number buying this book will not get you one and so there is no way to work through the exercises illustrated.
