5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read
This book is written in such a style that is easy to understand, yet technical and detailed enough to maintain your interest and attention all the way through.
5-0 out of 5 stars This one is a keeper!
As an author and instructor, I tend to be pretty picky about the books I choose to read and use in my classes. The authors present the material in a good logical progression. I especially like that it also provides sample evidence on the DVD. Most of the computer forensic books that currently exist contain mostly theory. This is the first good hands-on text that I have seen.
5-0 out of 5 stars An essential A-Z guide for forensic investigations
There is a real lack of well written books in this category, and this one stands out because it is comprehensive, yet easy to digest and carefully laid out, including case studies to understand data capture and analysis techniques.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Overview Without Getting Bogged in Details
One of my long standing complaints about computer software books is that they so often eliminate the first forty pages or so that explain just what this software is and what is supposed to do. This book (at 606 pages it's a lot more than forty pages) is essentially the front end description that explains what SAP ERP is and what it si supposed to do.
1-0 out of 5 stars What happened in the new edition?
This edition appears to be about 1/3 the size of previous editions; and refers to a fairly old version of SAP... even though this was released in Dec 2005.
2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Book, barely skims the surface
This book provides no real usable knowledge about SAP. There is absolutely no information on some areas, such as CATT's.And the areas that have some meat have only bologna. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Outdated beyond usefulness.
Be advised:this book may have been relevant a couple years ago, but not anymore.ISACA has updated and slightly reorganized the exam.I believe this book actually interferred with my prep. The ISACA study guides and applicable experience are plenty to pass this exam (worked for me).Good luck.

3-0 out of 5 stars CISSP or CISM?
I bought this book because there is no other book available (prep guide) that covers the CISM.As I read through the book there is an explicit sentence that reads "to better prepare you for the CISSP exam"; which test is this preg guide for?If you're going to cut and paste from similar works you've done in the past at least do the readers a favor and use the find/replace all function :).Overall it was a good read and I'll keep it around as a reference.

3-0 out of 5 stars A fine primer, but flawed
If you're looking for a step-by-step-hold-your-hand-guide to ArcView then this is your book. However ...and this is a big However... you'd better learn each lesson thoroughly as you go along, because there is no index. Let me repeat... no index. Oh, sure there's pages and pages of ESRI software license agreement, but no index. That being said, it is a fine reference and a good place to learn the basics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best GIS book!
If you want to learn GIS, this is the book for you. It teaches you how to use ArcGis and ArcMap very effectively. I have bought and used this book to learn GIS and by the end (about 3 months) I was very comfortable doing my own GIS analysis, without needing the book in front of me. The examples and tutorials in the book which guide you through the material, are easy to follow but challenge you to learn the material, which is the goal. The assignments at the end of each chapter reinforce what was taught in each chapter very well. They are very applicable and after completing all the assignments I consider myself very capable at using this complex program. I have tried to learn many programs from books and found that, although GIS is probably the most powerful and complex program i've tried to learn, this book teaches you better than any other. It makes it very easy to learn GIS and apply its powers. The CD provided is adequate to learn the program as well. The book also can serve as a reference when doing other GIS work, as key commands and concepts are well organized throughout the book and are easily referenced.I wish all other programs had a book which was this easy to use!
1-0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor
This is a text designed at the third grade level for Bryman/ITT Tech and the like. The Workbook is a picture book of examples, little of which relate to the assignments at the end of every chapter. Note there is neither index nor glossary. The CD's that come with it require validation and are timed to expire after 180 days. ESRI is proud of this book, but without justification. It lacks any sort of professional documentation for the ArcGIS and ArcMap programs and questions to workbench-support@esri.com are ansered by "see the book." They vary the theme a bit, but this is always the reply. But "the book" doesn't have the necessary data to acomplish the assignment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn By Doing
If you have data that fit the general category "time to event," and are not suitably analyzed by repeated measures ANOVA, you are probably looking at doing a survival analysis (also known by several other names). If you are working largely on your own, and you learn best by doing, you cannot--as far as I know--do better than Allison's book. Of course it all but locks you into using SAS for analyses, but his explanations of proportional hazards and other models are the best I've found among a dozen textbooks and stats package manuals (some of which made sense only after reading Allison). What makes this book so good is that it will have you running your analyses in just hours. The examples are superb take-off points. I was not a SAS user before reading the book and therefore took a little extra time to figure out dataset manipulations and such in SAS, but that was minor effort compared to the rewards of having Allison's clearly written book as a guide. The price of this book represents only a fraction of its value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extraordinarily Clear and Useful
I've used a number of this author's books and they all share in common lucidity, utility, and rigor. This book makes it easy to grasp complex ideas, provides comprehensible examples, gives sample SAS code so thatimplementing the methods is as straightforward as possible.Plus, it isclear that the author is a subtle and first-rate methodologist, whoinnovates in this area as well as teaches it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best how-to book on survival analysis using SAS. Very useful
This book is well-written, well-organized, and very practical.I found it invaluable in conducting my research. My only recommendation for the author for his next edition is to include a chapter on dealing withcorrelated event times, like time-to-promotion and time-to-quiting in hispolicemen example (pg 249). ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Review
The first part of the book is very valuable. The patterns described are on average rather shallow and don't touch on the real issues. For the 'novice' however this is a very relevant book to read. I do advice to deepen understanding by looking at actual websites to see how leaders have implemented the different patterns. Much more to learn there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very handy reference book and checklist
While there are many books on the market that discuss patterns related to programming, architectural elements, etc., this is the first book I've seen that focuses on web patterns at the user interface level. The book is essentially an indexed, cross-referenced, best practices guide to building web pages that attract and keep customers. Or at least keep you from pissing them off. The authors have collected and summarized a great deal of HCI research (all listed in the resources section of the appendix) on web usability, so none of this stuff is made up--it's all based on time-proven, tested, and verified data about how people actually use the Internet (e.g., see Amazon, Yahoo!, Google, et. al.). A few of the patterns are no longer considered best practices, due to evolving standards (e.g., CSS) and increasing browser standards support. This is a very handy reference book, especially for an in-depth UI checklist.

4-0 out of 5 stars Design of Sites: Patterns, Principles...Review

4-0 out of 5 stars Big...but it reads like a novel!
Great book and easy to read! Author explain theory in basicterms and then, he give scripts or examples of how it should work or be written at TSQL level. Index's book it's almost perfect; for being a 1400 pages book it is not difficult to find any topic on it.You will find a lot of nice SQL 2000 tuning tips which add an extra value to the book itself. Could be used as a MCDBA prep. book and of course, in your job or if you're into Databases Admin. and Design business.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book
I was suprised but the book is really good for both beginers as well as experts. I learned a lot from this book even thought I have been working with sql server for a long time.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best there is...ok so now i think Sams is better than Wrox...lol
Well I needed a crash course in SQL server management and some T-SQL.I attacked this book head-on. The book is very comprehensive and i am very amazed. It really is a complete guide to the GUI on SQL server. If you want some hard core T-SQL guidance then get another book...in addition. Sams teach yourself t-sql in 21 days is great.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good development of intuition, but not as good for other purposes...
I have many of the same criticisms of this book that I do of Ross's book titled: "Probability: a first course".This book reviews most of the material from that book at a faster pace and then goes into other topics.Ross in the introduction states that his main goal in this text is to develop the reader's intuition for probabilistic reasoning. This book is excellent towards acheiving this goal, but not very good for anything else.It is a very "pure" probability text, completely ignoring the fact that the field of statistics exists and is useful. At the same time, it is somewhat weak on theory.Measure theory isn't mentioned, and the emphasis overall is on computation and problem solving, not proving theorems and understanding theoretical connections between different ideas.
4-0 out of 5 stars good balance of rigour and problems
Ross presents a good treatment of probability theory. Enough rigour to be suitable for most students. Along with a very extensive problem set for each chapter. Instructors looking for a good text to accompany a course might consider this book. The exercises are varied enough to cover most of the aspects of each chapter. Answers are given to some exercises. But notably not all.
5-0 out of 5 stars Information density function
I'm currently using this book for a course.I recommend taking courses in probability and mathematical statistics before this, which I neglected and which made the class difficult, but this is an excellent book. We've covered about half of the chapters, and only about half of the sections of those, and I find myself wanting to take another course from this book.I've heard some complaints about the level of rigor... I'm an engineer and find it sufficiently rigorous without being tedious, and were I a mathematician, I would probably just take another course or read more if I really wanted that level of detail.

3-0 out of 5 stars Biased to Schneier's algorithms
This can be an annoying book for a serious developer, but I do know Writing a secure cryptosystem is very hard. People should be aware that it is hard, and they are likely to make mistakes. It isn't something that should be attempted lightly. If you are doing some actual work, it's not a good one. The book does not cover sufficient mathematic knowledge, and the edit is bit horrible as well. The authors chose to support their own algorithm shedding less light on AES and even RSA. That really made me stop reading this book.
3-0 out of 5 stars Self contradictory and selflauding
From the very first pages, authors emphasize the need for public algorithms and peer review. Yet, the book is full of suggestions that appear first time in the book. They even take time to give fancy names to their new proposals. It is typical to see things like "While writing this chaper we came up with this new random number generator...". Well, the authors could have used some of public scrutiny they are so fond of.
3-0 out of 5 stars Must be used with Applied Cryptography
As one other reader pointed out this book can be called Applied Cryptography Light. It is true, it gives you more theory and very little math. I did not like this book by itself since I was interested in actual implementation and i wanted to see full algorithms and math. I did end up buying Applied Cryptography and those 2 books combined provide an excellent reference. I was not able to give more than 3 stars since I did not feel i got any knowledge out of this book to be able to apply it in real life except reading: "Cryptography is hard, you might need to hire an expert..." while I want to become an expert myself one day! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book explaining all the secret s of secure communication
Cryptography Decrypted is an easy to read and fun book that explains how cryptography has evolved from Caesar's time to now. The author goes over how encryption is used in all areas of communication, and what sequential systems have deveoped to stop hacker attacks along the way. It is detailed but fun to read, and explains how all the enigmatic parts, like Private Keys, Public Keys, Secret Keys, Digital Signatures, SMIME, PGP, RSA, SHA-1 ect. all fit together.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simply THE BEST!!!
This book is phenomenal! I skimmed through countless books on cryptography before I settled on this one. The authors Mel and Baker have the unique ability to make a complex subject like cryptography completely accessible even to the mathematically challenged. This book is a MUST READ! If you work in the IT Security or Network Design field, this book gives you all the background you need to be more effective in your job without having the turgid style of most crypto books. It really does a fantastic job of explaining all the basic building blocks of cryptography as well as suites like SSL and IPSEC in plain everyday language. You will not be disappointed with this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book for Reference
This is a good book for reference. I use minitab at work and this has proved useful, better than Rath & Strong's "Guide to Minitab" which I also have.

2-0 out of 5 stars Oriented Towards the Implementer, Not the User
This work contains over 800 pages of densly packed information. However at least 600 of those pages are directed towards system administrators who are implementing MS Project Server, not towards Project Managers who wish to use the tool.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Guide for the Advanced User
The Unleashed series is for Advanced users and System Administrators, so this book is a shining example of that series. Covering aspects from a real-world perspective, the authors have captured what it's like to really use Project Server and how to squeeze every last drop of productivity out of the software.
2-0 out of 5 stars Too many propellers
I bought this book hoping to learn MS Project Server workflow from a functional utilization perspective. While the book covers the features, it fails miserably to connecting the dots in a clear manner. This has diminished this book to a reference guide. In the next edition, take note.Make the security model more clear. Make the portfolio feature more clear, etc., etc., etc.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent information
The more I dive into the MCSE path the more I relize there is not one book that covers everything you need to know for the exam. This book does an excellent job of explaining the topics that it covers. That said it covers about 85% of what you need to know.Nearly 50% of the test was on RRAS.

5-0 out of 5 stars this product is awesome, but ull need extra help to get cert.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dreadful Book - Avoid
I haven't taken the exam yet, so I can't comment on the appropriatness of the book to the exam, but my biggest gripe is the ridiculous number of errors in this book. Even with the official list of errata at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;830785, I've lost count of the number of additional errors. If you do the exercises and think "why isn't this working?", you've hit yet another error. My advice: demand a refund immediately.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Worth the Time or Money
I found some gems in this book but I don't recommend it. The authors should learn to write in English and the Publisher should learn the art of copy editing. Otherwise, this book could have worked.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I purchased and read The Book of Postfix because I'm always interested in learning something new. This certainly is one hell of a book!
5-0 out of 5 stars This book has no equal.
If you can only afford one book on Postfix, make it this one.I already had Postfix, the Definitive guide (which is a very good book). However, this book will take you beyond simply getting Postfix up and running.

2-0 out of 5 stars About this book
This book is ok for FI , in controlling I think it has not given things clearly. How ever the most important things is no one giving the user manual.
