5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Great for CSS beginers, I found everything here I needed to know to get started.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Motivation to use CSS
Before reading this book, I had never understood the TRUE real reason for using CSS. The authors for this text do a fantastic job at explaining how HTML has become tainted with stylistic tags and hacks (was not the original intention for HTML, ie using tables for layout), and how CSS has come to the rescue to seperate visual presentation from content. This book is a great read to get a thorough and quick introduction to CSS. It flows well and has incredibly useful examples.

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential book for web designers: the "why" as well as the "how".
This book fits in nicely between reference works like Eric Meyers "Cascading Style Sheets: The Definitive Guide" and technique books like Dan Cederholm's "Bulletproof Web Design". At first glance, this rather unassuming book contains pretty basic information about the applications of CSS. However, this book deserves a careful reading, as it is packed with excellent explanations and examples.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great All around book
I have been using macs for about 5 years, and my knowledge doubled after i read this book. It is great for quick tips to be more productive. It also has a good amount of technical information including UNIX, which Mac OS X is based off of. I highly recommend for any mac user, new or not.

2-0 out of 5 stars Hard to read
While this book has a lot of great information, it's very hard for me to sit down and read. Here's an example of a writing style:Under "Quitting Programs" the author writes "If I had a twisted and warped sense of humor, I'd simly tell you to quit applications by pulliiing your Mac's power cord fromthe wall socket.(Luckily, I don't.)There are, however, more sane ways toexit a program..."If you're like me, and this style drives you up the wall, try another book, because this book has examples like this on every page.It just gets tiring reading past the cute to get to the meat.

4-0 out of 5 stars AppleScript: A Comprehensive Guide to Scripting and Automation on Mac OS X
this book suitable for beginner (as me) and advanced user.It start with basic AppleScript skill. And the best thing if the language it use is simple and interesting. You will not feel boring (like other training books) when read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bible and Handbook
Easy to read and very complete, until with the least details (How to implement a debug mode, how to name subroutines, good practices to write the code, etc.)
5-0 out of 5 stars It's True, This is THEE Book on AppleScript...
Prior to getting this book as a gift I read every printed book and pdf on AppleScript written in the last 10 years, and still my progress hit a wall that I couldn't get past. Seeing as I've only been scripting for a year, that's part of the problem. Most AppleScript books are either severely outdated, poorly written, or both. This book breathed new life into a subject that really needed a fresh perspective. This book is an extremely thorough reference, a challenging and inspiring workbook and a treasure trove of ready-to-use scripts and tools that you can take and make your own in the real world.

4-0 out of 5 stars beginners please
Logically and spaciously designed, well-written and conceived, ilife 06 is the perfect beginner's introduction to creative tools. It allows someone who has net zero experience in visual, audio, or web processing to put something together on the web in a matter of days. The reason ilife 06 is so good is that it limits itself to instructing true beginners and never tries to be an all-in-one manual. Of course that's also the book's downside: it will only take you through the software's most basic uses, even though the ilife suite is a much deeper set of applications. Result: eventually you'll need another instructional guide, but untill then, this is the best start-up on the market.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for beginners and intermediates alike
Some of the other reviews have dinged this book because of its "beginner" nature, but this is precisely why you are using a training book for beginner to intermediate type software. If you knew how to use the software already, why would you need a book?No program in iLife '06 is professional quality, it was never meant to be.
2-0 out of 5 stars Book lacks much information.
After glancing through the book I was very disappointed. The introduction told you that this was not a comprehensive guide and it was merely a supplement to other information such as the help and Jim Held's book. This was not stated in the information on the book.If that's the case, why not get Jim Held's book? I was particularly interested in iWeb.The information given for iWeb was sparce. It merely gave information on setting up a page and importing pictures from iPhoto onto the web page.It said nothing about links and other important web information.Perhaps it was on the disk.I dont know. I never opened thedisk because I knew I wanted to return the book. The only reason I gave it two stars at all was because it said that the disk contained turorials. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Tips to increase your Photoshop productivity
This book is really different from any other Photoshop book I've come across. Many Photoshop books seem bent on illustrating every feature the software provides. This can be a bit intimidating for beginning Photoshop enthusiasts, who still have trouble navigating the software. This book simply aims to help the reader organize the Photoshop environment in a way that makes it easy to perform the work of digital enhancement.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Director MX Book!
This is a great reference book - the author says it is not really meant to be read all the way through and it is described asnot for beginners, but I think any Director user except perhaps the most advanced could benefit from this book either as a reference or complete read or both. I especially like all of the side notes scattered throughout the book, plus the troubleshooting and Did You Know? sections at the end of each chapter. His descriptions of some components of Lingo were the first I've read that I really understood. He also includes 7 bonus chapters and a Lingo reference on the CD! This book is packed with info, and even though it is now one version of Director behind the current one, I still recommend having it on your reference shelf. If you really use Director for either work or play, you won't regret it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Listen to me..... its the words of wisdom
I really don't have to get into detail. This is the book you want to have when you need something to go back on and read. This is the 1st book that helped me the most i only used 4 books but this one was the one that made me go back and read up again and me as a person that hates to read, I learn a ton of stuff from this very book. I'm telling you right now no one here can tell you all the details this one book has but if you pick it up and read it you will see for your self that this book is worth more then it cost. He even has a mixure of games inside the cd its crazy. This book chills in my back pack when i need some lingo codes and which im back in director for the 3d field im just useing it to bring back the old codes which this book holds. All i can tell you is that this is a great book for director and perhaps one of the best i have encounter you won't regrate it trust me on that.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD BOOK
This book states it's the only Director MX book you will ever need ... well, it's TRUE.Buy it, you will not be disappointed.Director is a great tool.Especially if you have a programming background, you will embrace the power of Lingo to create multimedia applications. This book shows some of the best Lingo examples I have seen up to now in Director books. It's good as a learning book and it's equally good as a reference book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars learner's manual for MediaWiki and TWiki
Wikis are an interesting experiment in collaborative effort on the Web. The best known example is of course Wikipedia. The authors cite this, but devote most of the text to explaining how to use MediaWiki and TWiki. Both have become popular for maintaining wikis, and are shown to be very easy to learn and use in a group effort.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helps Dreamweaver Live Up To Its Name
I only rated this book a 4 because although I've read dozens of software books, the only other book on Dreamweaver I'd read was a no-frills intro. Tarin's book delves deep into the hard-core details of this annoyingly complex, but increasingly necessary set of tools. This book is actually fun to read - I liked that. It is also irreverent - I REALLY liked that. The examples are crisp and easy to follow, if you think them through. I especially liked Chapter 10 on converting Excel and Word data to HTML, as Dreamweaver has a way of shrinking them to acceptable file sizes - a pain to sort out on your own. Dreamweaver's complexity can give you nightmares. This book, will let you count sheep instead. Good work Tarin.

1-0 out of 5 stars not very clear, sometimes confusing
Being able to follow directions well is not good enough for this book. This book was recommended to me by teachers, but it is useless and should not be used at all.I don't like that the visuals are old, and it is worse if you are using a MAC because they are mainly for PCs.The instructions are not straight foward - for instance I tried to upload my site images and half way through his instructions I was lost--I coulnd't find the windows he was referring to. I struggled for hours and finally, feeling defeated, I googled what I needed and found a web site that had more straight forward instructions. If I ever wanted to throw your computer or a book out the window, this was the time. Also, he seems to abbreviate his instructions to emcompass all the how to's in short sentences, but it gets too abbreviated that there seems to be steps missing -- he does this through out the book and uses names of windows this way as well. To my opinion this is definitely a waste of money and I regret buying it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Companion web site not there

1-0 out of 5 stars Not enough.
I attended the ABAP academy and received certification. Prior to the academy I read this book. I found it to be better than nothing but other students found the ABAP Objects book to be more current. The ABAP Object book also provides a demo R3 system. This allows the student to practice at home and be more creative. Win 2000 and MS SQL 2000 are required for the demo version. Go with ABAP Objects.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference
It is a good book as a reference, but not advisable as a tutorial.

4-0 out of 5 stars Expensive series but surely valuable
My one and only complaint is the cost of these version specific books. The next OS X will be out in just a few months, but here we are with a 10.4 specific book. And of course this book by itself doesn't do much: you need others in the same series to have a good overall picture.

3-0 out of 5 stars Best Pro Engineer Book Available
While fairly good at describing how to use the tools available in Pro-E, the Definitions and explanations of conceptual use of these tools is lacking. I do not recommend this book for people who are trying to learn Pro Engineer on their own. Use of this book is best in an setting where an experienced user or instructor are available for assistance.
1-0 out of 5 stars Very Bad buy, software is sheer torture
I bought this book with the intent of studying and learning. But..it wouldn't activate. After some help from PTC and resetting the URL to the right version it loaded, including the license activation. OOPS! the CDs are outdated, program shuts down. (No help whatsoever from PTC with this issue, they're clueless). Getting hold of the author, 2 new CDs are sent out immediately (But I did pay for the postage). The CDs are loaded, ProEngineer starts up, but can't download ANY of the files that the books uses for lessons because the new student version is inhibited. While the book gives good instructions, the rest is just pure incompetence. This course will teach you to really hate ProE before you even start to learn it, and frankly compared to Solidworks and Inventor Version 8, this is some seriously outdated software with weird file structures that tells me I'm running a mad mix of old software and patches to make it look "new". Just awful. I might get it working but I've been struggling with it for some 10 days now. I feel like I've been ripped off and if I don't get it working soon I want my money back from Amazon.com

4-0 out of 5 stars FrameMaker 7 Classroom in a Book
This book is essentially an excellent learning book for FrameMaker. It covers most of unstructered FrameMaker's features. Adobe should be ashamed for publishing their Classroom in a book series with perfect binding. No learning product should be perfect bound because the book does not stay open to the page you need unless you destroy the binding.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not that bad a book
I don't know why all these reviewers hate the book. Granted the instructions to install the fonts were wrong and sometimes the fonts the lessons require aren't there, but I can live with that. The instructions are right and the lessons work. Yes I wish it was in color, but I can live with B&W too. I've done eleven lessons and have enjoyed the book very much. I love the power of FrameMaker and think the book is good. I think Adobe/Peachpit press has gotten its act together since these reviews were written. The book is worth getting now.

3-0 out of 5 stars Update for Adobe Framemaker 7 CD

4-0 out of 5 stars Photoshop CS2 RAW
I must admit, I took a long time switching to digital for photo work, and then I thought I was set. It appears that not only do a I have to master the camera for settings, but in those instances where the money talks, I have to learn about RAW format rather than the high res JPG format I thought was dealing me a good deal.
4-0 out of 5 stars Too much graphic art - too little substance
In the field of digital photography, capturing and developing "RAW" files is a hot topic, largely because this is usually the route to the highest image quality attainable. The subject can be a bit opaque because each manufacturer mechanizes in-camera RAW files differently. Also, there are many different RAW converters (software packages for developing the RAW files into optimized images) from both the camera manufacturers and third parties. One of the most popular RAW converters is Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), originally released by Adobe as a plug-in for Photoshop 7 and Photoshop Elements, and now integrated into both products.
4-0 out of 5 stars A nice introduction to RAW
I bought this book after reading the other 5-star reviews, so I thought Wow! This must be it! Well, it's almost 'it'. The book gives a well-written and useful explanation of what RAW is all about, and also shows some good examples of what you can do with RAW. It also helps you to decide when to shoot in RAW or when you'd better just switch to JPG.

1-0 out of 5 stars Decent system, but poorly presented, overpriced
The Good:
3-0 out of 5 stars Nice system, acceptable book
The system itself seems to be a good one, and EasyScript Express an acceptably effective way to learn it.5-0 out of 5 stars It's been a blessing
I had a need for a "fast-to-paper" method of verbal communications. I have been using Easy Script for several months now, after having received and read your "EasyScript Express" book and applied the lessons and practice sessions therein. I started putting the concepts to good use immediately, and have found EasyScript to be a benefit to my work.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for effective work
I am a former graphic worker and I now teach this matter to students who have no ideas of the state of the art.
4-0 out of 5 stars A great resource for ANY business
Before & After is one of my favorite design magazines. The project examples, step-by-step guidelines and practical articles have always been excellent resources for designers of all education and experiences levels. With Graphics for Business, author, designer and teacher John McWade teaches the reader how to make their business look great. The book is not logo or corporate identity specific. In addition to logo design, McWade covers the creation of newsletters, stationery, sales pieces and forms, and charts, reports, calendars and maps. Still, the logo and identity section of the book (44 pages of the volume) explains logos very well and provides great examples of how to design lettermarks, wordmarks, monograms, ligatures and other forms of identities. Playing with type, words, shapes and illustrative elements are all presented in fun and well-illustrated manner. The book will be a great addition to the design library of anyone interested in producing a strong image for their business, or that of a client. - Jeff Fisher, writer of bLog-oMotives and the "Logo Notions" column at CreativeLatitude.com

5-0 out of 5 stars Focuses On GOOD Design
What a wonderful book this is. As a graphic designer, I have quite a collection of design books - this book offers a tremendous amount of practical design tips and instruction. Take a look at the topics covered in the book:
