5-0 out of 5 stars Taking a Simpler Step
I had worked with other editing softwares in the past so when I got Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 in the mail I was ready to start working! Then I realized this software had so much more to offer so I went to the manual and starting reading. By about the middle of it I thought I would never learn it. The manual was all over the place and didn't explain anything in human terms so I went online and found this book "for dummies" and I would seriously recommend this book to everyone. It takes the software and breaks it down in laymens terms with even sarcastic breaks for the long time reader. It was informative and witty.I use it as the Premiere bible and it sits right next to the computer the whole time I'm working. It also offers helpful hints on how to angle the camera and the proper equipment to have. It's freaking awesome and if you made it all the way to the end of this review..you have to get it. It's worth the money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Basics, Poor Examples
As does the entire "Dummy" series, this book takes things from a very basic level and assumes little or nothing in the way of prior knowledge. It does an excellent job of explaining concepts and giving an overview of the Premier Pro software. After that, it falls short. The examples are very general and no disk is provided for tutorials. This lack of examples and of real tutorials makes learning the software, at least for me, more difficult. There were time when I thought I was following along correctly only to later learn that was not the case. If I had real examples to which I could compare my work, I would have gotten a lot further.
4-0 out of 5 stars Mostly retread of earlier versions but still good...
I bought Adobe Premiere for Dummies for version 6.5 and was able to quickly master the basics covered in the book, then within a few months, I upgraded to Premiere Pro. I also purchased the Premiere Pro for Dummies book to get a good primer.

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding, uniquely useful book
Because web sites are made with computers, somehow it seems that the vast majority of authors of "how to make a web site" books focus almost entirely on the technical aspects, as somehow devoid of relation to the practical art of making sites that work.
5-0 out of 5 stars Web Design guide
Robin Williams does an excellent job of providing clear suggestions, good rationales, and lots of examples to make her point.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worn this one out
Several years ago I met with the main designer at company that created the web pages for several pharmaceutical distributors in Canada. At the time, I was well versed in creating web pages using several of the professional programs including Dreamweaver, as well as writing code. The designer, however, said that they did all of their designing in Photoshop and then used a slicing technique in ImageReady before editing the site in Dreamweaver.I hate to admit it, but I had never heard of creating web pages that way, so I went home and began looking through all of my web designing books to see if I could find a description of the technique.Yes, I found it in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great instruction
This is a really well done book, good, systematic, well thought out instruction. It methodically takes you through the complexities of this powerful application. It makes no assumptions about your knowledge and teaches in plain, easy-to-follow language, building one technique on another using a series of lessons. The material is presented logically, encouraging the student to explore, while still keeping a clear and consistent lesson plan to guide the learner from topic to topic. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive Disappointment
I don't know what's going on with this book. The prime difference between version 6 and version 7 is the inclusion of Adobe Lifecycle Designer. This book says virtually nothing on such an important area.It does little to address database connections.
1-0 out of 5 stars Useless for Designer Forms
I bought this specifically for information about using the new LiveCycle Designer application that comes with Acrobat Professional to create interactive PDF forms. All of the information in this book (Chapters 26-29) is wrong about that app--none of the dialog boxes match, or are even close, and the program doesn't work the way it's described. I'm guessing that Adobe changed it after the book was written.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Childrens Bible
A bible for the inexperienced with acrobat.. If you have never opened up the program, than I could see how this might be considered a bible.Just like any childrens bible is compared to a regular bible.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good insight
A quick and fascinating read about one of the greatest business minds of our time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I am not the biggest Steve Jobs fan on planet earth but I will say that as biographies go, Bill Simon is one of the best of the best. I read Art of Deception and Art of Intrusion and even Profit From Experience and I have had the privildge of knowing personally the personalites of which Mr. Simon writes and I'm happy to say that his books are so good that you'd not know that the individuals in his work didn't write these books themselves. Buy it if you haven't. It's a very interesting view into the psyche that is Steve Jobs. I enjoyed it a lot.

1-0 out of 5 stars Basically, its a big, anti-jobs rant.Don't be conned.
I've been in the software industry for quite awhile, and I've watched as the personal computer industry evolved from one where there were dozens of machines being sold to consumers down to the two primary platforms of windows and macintosh. While there is no doubt that the macintosh is the minority platform, there is also no doubt that its continued survival has engendered an unexplained amount of hate from those who are not fans of the machine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not In Depth
The Structure of the book is very complicated, it's as ifconstructed from many different articles written for some 3D application. And many of the information is very software specific. There are many examples but not a single complete advanced tutorial. Many chapters copied from Doug's old book LW5.0 character animation. There are many other books on Character Animation much better than this.1 out of 5.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too many applications attempted; spread too thin
Overall this was a very helpful book. My main "problem" with this book is the author's attempt to cover so many applications so specifically. As a Lightwave user, I am still left in the dark aboutLightwave's bones in character animation; which is one of the main reasonsI purchased the book. Only the very basic setup was covered as a tutorial. How about something more complex such as a "hand" with limitedranges, fall-offs and strengths...?The version 5.0 and 5.6 is jumpedbetween frequently...then Hash...then Softimage.....Max.... For characteranimation theory this is a good book but if you are trying to actually be acharacter animator using only one of the apps (such as Lightwave), then Isuggest doing alot more reading from other books and web tutorials.Forthe price this book is good but no great wonder. I did learn from it; onlynot as much as I thought I would have when I bought it.

3-0 out of 5 stars It is a good book, perhaps the best of its type but...
It is a good book, perhaps the best of its type, and it could certainly be much better, in ways other readers have pointed out. But it has one fatal flaw for a book that should be computer platform agnostic - the CD-ROM isWindows only. What about all the Mac and UNIX people in the 3D Industry? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, Fast and to the Point
After trying several self-help books on the Adobe Photshop 7.0, including Photoshop 7 for Dummies, a friend recommended this title, which is the official training workbook from Adobe Systems, Inc. The title was being used as a textbook in his college graphic class and he found it to be in logical sequence and with an easy to understand format. If you are a not-every-day user of the program and want to learn specific techniques to enhance or modify your photographs - this book is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars A computer novice can be an expert with this book.
I have been doing photo editing for some time now, mostly for my mothers scrap booking. She decided that she wanted to fix photos herself so she signed up for a class. She barley knew how to use the mouse and press the button to turn the computer on.This book has taught her how to not only run the program but also how windows and Macintosh work. This book teaches step by step through multiple lessons, and has instructions for both Windows and Mac users.I recommend this book to students and those wanting to know how to do image editing.I taught myself how to restore and edit photos and have been doing it for 3 years, and I have learned things from this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent look under the hood
I bought this book along with Mac OS X Server Essentials. While that book is good on the GUI interface, this book shows in good detail what is really going on under the hood and behind the scenes.I have a much better understanding of Open Directory and LDAP in general as well as Kerberos and Single Sign in logic. Many of the other services offered under OS X Server 10.4are also explained well. The command line information is good while not being so in depth as to lose the reader. You should have a basic familiarity with UNIX command line before trying to understand the concepts presented. The section on security is very good and presents a broad range of options to the administrator.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book from a top-notch trainer
As another review states, this book is the guide for the relevant Apple ACSA courses. It succinctly provides you with an understanding of the basic information needed to attack the certification exams.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not for bedtime reading
This book is a one-to-one version of the course material found in the Directory Services Integration and Administration v10.4 course, the Security Best Practices v10.4 course and more. The exercises are well thought out and easy to do. Not so easy to remember are the 800+ pages, but it is not meant to teach you all you need to know about being an SysAdmin. It is enough to get you through these two exams, which give you 7 credits and the ACSA. And it is enough to set you off into a job as Junior SysAdmin or, as in my case, a supporter with server duties.

5-0 out of 5 stars Up and running on FCP in a week
If you are ever forced to quickly learn Final Cut pro for the odd job where Avid is not a viable option, or you want to start editing your on stuff on the cheap, buy this, read it and practise it for a week and you will be a Pro at Pro, knowing everything there is to know, at least, where to find it and whether it is doable or not. It is a book written by an Avid editor for Avid editors who have to go through the same learning curve. You can be very surprised going through it on how similar the two editing systems are and most of all, how quickly you can synthesise the information and make it second nature. I fervently recommend this book being so well written, going always to the point and covering everything properly.

4-0 out of 5 stars This book Yes Indeed
As an Avid editor and now learning FCP, I can recommend this book for helping to understand where everthing is.This book is a must unless you want to tear your hair out.If you know how it feels going from Media Composer to DS, then you will understand why you need this book and I might add others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Moving from Avid to FCP?This book is great!
We have been an Avid only edit house for years, but reciently purchased two Final Cut systems. Most of the transition was pretty easy, but trying to figure out how to do some of the things in FCP that we did in our sleep on the Avid slowed us down a bit. This book draws great parallels between the two systems. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Resource on CSS
I found this book to be helpful in learning some of the basics of CSS.Perhaps, like you, I googled my way around online trying to find solutions to problems that I was encountering.I liked that this book had many of the solutions already written out in the book that I was having problems with.I have been familiar with HTML, but I was late in adding CSS to my websites.I know that there are large benefits with using CSS, and it makes your life eaiser, but I found learning CSS from scratch to be somewhat daunting. From the novice perspective I found this book to be exactly what I needed. There are larger books out there, but I really needed just the basics.
5-0 out of 5 stars CSS Clearly Explained
I highly recommend this book. I am not a specialist in web design, but did have a certification in HTML/XHTML before reading it, so I had some background. Major topics are Web Typography, Page Elements, Links and Navigation, Lists, Forms, Tables, Page Layouts, Print-Friendly functions, Hacks/Workarounds and miscellaneous designing issues.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference for All Levels of CSS Developer
I've recently had the pleasure of reading CSS Cookbook by Christopher Schmitt, published by O'Reilly (the people who put animal pictures on their tech books - seems silly, but now you know exactly who I mean, don't you?). While I do not recommend it as a beginner's guide to CSS, I recommend it for the bookshelf of current CSS developers, or perhaps if you have a basic knowledge of CSS (maybe you use it control fonts and colors, and that's about it) and would like to implement even more of your design with CSS.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
This book is a must have for any digital nature photographer. Great step by step how to's and very well laid out.

2-0 out of 5 stars So-So - Not the Best Book.
I am not sure what part Tim Grey plays in creating this book but if you are purchasing the book do it because of what Ellen Anon is contributing to the book.I Think Tim Grey is a fantastic Photoshop and P.C. Guru - and a great writer in his element. If Tim contributed to the Photoshop techniques of this book that is good.He is not a fantastic nature photographer.Leave the nature photos to the likes of John Shaw and George Lepp (Tim knows both of these nature photographers), etc.Tim Grey has some great books out - Color Confidence and Photoshop CS2 are two of them.Buy those two books before this one if you want some of Tim's best writings on Photoshop.Photo Finish is another book that Tim Grey co-authored and it also a So-so book. There are tons of good Photoshop books. If you need a starter try the Adobe Photoshop Classroom in A Book series for whichever version of Photoshop you are using. Use the Adobe Photoshop Tutorials on their web site - they are great and free. Print these tutorial out in color and put them in a binder and you have a great Photoshop book with little or no cost to you. John Shaw has an excellent e-book, "John Shaw's Photoshop Field Guide", about 208 pages.A great source for nature photographers with some Photoshop experience. No 'down-&-dirty' tricks in his e-book.It is straight forward Photoshop information for a nature photographer of all levels of experience. It does not cover Photshop CS2 but you can figure everything out.Cost is $30 US.http://www.johnshawphoto.com/ebook.htm.Two other books to consider if you don't already have them are Adobe Photoshop, by David Blatner & Bruce Fraser and Digital Photography, by Eismann (a great photographer & writer), Duggan, and Tim Grey. (since Grey is at the end of the line here I can only assume his part is small in this book).Purchase some of these other books before spending money on Photoshop For Nature Photographers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage and easy to read
I should be clear up front - I'm lucky enough to know Ellen and Tim personally but that has no impact on my thoughts about this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Photoshop Restoration and Retouching
Very detail lessons. Not for the Photoshop novice. A good working knowledge of Photoshop is needed. Excellent learning tool for those interested in all aspects of photo restoration and retouching.

5-0 out of 5 stars Katrin Eismann is a great teacher
I've read her other book on compositing and all I can say is I love her style of teaching! It's inspiring and not canned at all. She doesn't teach you to just dial in numbers, but instead she focuses on the concepts so that you can then decide what numbers you need by yourself!
5-0 out of 5 stars Welcome update for a classic guidebook
I was pleased to see this second edition of the classic guide to retouching your images digitally. As always, each task is presented clearly and simply, with everything you need to know to successfully fix your flawed photographs.Highly recommended. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference for implementers who are familiar with NURBS
This book is best for those who have at least become familiar with Bezier and NURBS curves and surfaces and want to start implementing some programs.5-0 out of 5 stars An Essential Foundation
I own many books on the subject of NURBS. I always come back to this one while programming NURBS and reading research papers. It provides a fantastic foundation. It is an older book, so don't expect recent research to be included. For those that also want to know how to do ray tracing with NURBS surfaces look here:3-0 out of 5 stars This is a definitely a math book, not a programming book !
This book is complete, but there is too many math formula. The composition is appr. 80% formula explanation, 10% sample and 10% algorithm. So if you are a programmer you are wasting 3/4 pages of the book. But, since there'sno other book about NURBS, as complete as this, youmay want to buy thisone or else you can take a look "Mathematical Element for ComputerGraphics". It also contains 300 pages of NURBS. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is my Bible.
I really want to find that book, I am only wondering how much will it cost. It is a precious bible for me. I have only the PDF version of it now, enough to study, but I must have teh brick! :)5-0 out of 5 stars accessible book -- out of print but not rare
I was a little worried I would need to be a guru to make any sense of this book. Not true. It's pretty accessible and has engaged me right from the beginning.5-0 out of 5 stars Required Reading
I don't do any graphics programming and much of the advice in this book isobsolete. Still, writing high-performance assembler and C code is essentialto my job, and I can't begin to imagine how to become an expert onperformance programming without reading the first portion of this book.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me polish my expertise
I knew enough to do the basics, but not enough to take full advantage of the program. The book is a very helpful desk reference.I am not a professional, but I do make documents in publisher and work, as well as a few things in adobe illustrator. Now I know some tricks of the trade, and wondered why I never bought this earlier! Thanks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Has info. not available elsewhere.
I got this book for my brother, who just bought Acrobat 7 Professional to create fillable forms with special functions. He tried and tried to do what he wanted, but until I gave him this book, he wasn't able to figure out how to do what he wanted to. This book had the specific information that taught him how to do what he wanted. I was amazed, because he even downloaded a huge amount of information from Adobe's Web site in his search for the right info. and couldn't get what he needed.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not for Macs
This is not a bad book, but it's mistitled. It should be "How to Do Everything with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 for Windows." It ignores nearly all differences in the program and procedures for the Mac version, and nowhere does it warn you of this. Hello? Anyone home? ... Read more
