The perfect book for beginners
The book is clear, concise and comprehensive. It covers from how toget a domain name to how to accept credit card payments.I like the emphasis in formating using CSS instead html. This was a new concept for me. The author introduces java scripts and dynamic html. I missed a chapter about how to organize, and keep update the whole web site (sometimes with hundreds of web pages, pictures, icons, etc...). It was one of my first book about the topic and I really think that it's a powefull introductory book.

An enjoyable walk through the essential steps in web site creation.

Worth the money and your time ...
I have read author David Blatner's book on quark and being very familar with that program, I found his book on moving to indesign immensely helpful. You get great tips on how to do things that you have already established in your quark workflow. The index is well organized and a quick reference.

Not well organized
Hard to find what I wanted. Preferred the Sams All in One for Creative Suite 2. Much easier to navigate. This book was a waste of money.

It Moved Me!

Linux for dummies
Like all the other Dummies series, the Linux for dummies is another great way to learn Linux. With this book you don't need to have a geek live with you to use and understand the powerful and useful computer enviroment. I have used Linux for several years and the book taught me a few things I didn't know about Linux.

The Best Linux Jump Start
If you are new to Linux like me and would like to learn Linux in a week then this book is a must have along with "Linux Pocket Guide".
Outdated Distros
I'll be frank.I was really looking forward to using this book. Making ISO copies of Linux distros can be a tedious and lengthy process.It's nice to know you can get the distros on one CD and check things out.

Excellent text well written and logical sequencing of chapters.
Solves a lot of problems! (That's how it's organized)
I had a recent perl+mysql project and flipped between the Cookbook and the author's other work, MySQL, mentioned in other reviews.( also referred to the O'Reilly Perl books _Programming Perl_ and _Perl for System Administration_.I don't usually have time to master any topic or skillset; I need to get in, get it going, and move on.This book is perfect for that."How do I get the date?"There's a recipe for that."How do I get perl to connect to the database and insert stuff?" There's a recipe.Also for PHP, python, etc.It's really focused on problem solving, and the problems are really well chosen.This book will save you hours of effort.

Panther help is on the way!
This is not the first user manual, by David Pogue, that I have purchased. I rely on these publications to not only give me the basics, but also a more advanced understanding of new and unfamiliar Mac operating systems. Get to know Panther with the help of David Pogue!

Mac OS Panther, The Missing manual
Excellent help so far. Our school IT administrator was so impressed he is ordering a copy for the staff. I never realised you could continue to burn info, images etc onto an ordinary cd! The Expose feature pointed out in this book is brilliant for quick access to school reports. I am not very familiar with the MacIntosh computers but this book is going to be a great source of info for OSX.

Bilingual
I'm becoming bilingual--I'm learning to speak Apple as well as Windows. I just got a new iMac G5. Apple basically tells you to learn the system by pushing all the buttons to see what they do. Yeah, right. I also have the XP Missing Manual. This is a good series, a lot better than the Dummie series, if you really are a dummie. Not very useful
I have had this manual for a year, and it's answered very few of my questions. The writing isn't nearly as clear as it could be, but moreover there are a lot of missing topics. Just now I am looking for guidance on uninstalling software, and it's not even mentioned. Earlier today I was looking for help on iTunes, and it couldn't answer my (pretty simple) question on that either. I had Sharon Aker?'s Mac Bible for 0S 9, and it was fantastic. I thought this would be similar, but it's not nearly as good. I hoping to find a better manual.

VERY ORGANIZED
VERY WELL ORGANIZED AND ESY TO FIND INFO. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE ON TROUBLE SHOOTING OF AREAS. BASICS ETC.
They say bible, they mean bible!!
The book is HUGE!! It is like from the beginning of "time" and covers everything possible--just as you would envision a bible doing. I really didn't expect the book to be so huge and literally the size of those big ole family bibles on book stands. ;-) Seriously, it is packed full of info, and although not the kind of book you would want to take to the beach to peruse, it is one to use for reference time and time again. ... Awesome InDesign Training Manual!
This book is phenomenal! After purchasing several different manuals covering the various main components of Adobe Creative Suite 2 (Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Photoshop CS2 and GoLive CS2) I found myself wishing that Lynda.com published a Hands-On Training book for every component of CS2. The combination of Brian Wood's clear writing style and the included bonus exercises and demo movies made me feel like I had my own personal InDesign instructor right beside me.Everyone who wants to learn InDesign from the comfort of their own desk should have a copy of this book. I highly recommend it!

Too slow
I have bought linda books in the past and they are very good beacuse of the inclusion of quicktime movies and excersises. But I find this book too slow. The fact that you have to be 4 chapters to be able to put text in the document it's a drawback. To spend 3 chapters to tell you how to create a guide, I think it's for retards or 6th grade students. I regret spending the money on the book. I think I 'll try the Classroom in a Book CS2 since I had the previus CS1 that was good. I would not recomended for classroom beacause students will get bored. But it's a good option for non-designer people.

Training for Indesign CS2
I work for an architect firm in which we used the old Pagemaker for doing our marketing and proposals brochures.We upgraded to Indesign CS2.I have never had any formal training in using Pagemaker or any marketing software.I simply edited over previous brochures to launch my new projects.So I really felt overwhelmed when I first opened the software and didn't know where to begin.I went to a large book store and took off the shelf every training book I could find on learning InDesign CS2. There were a couple dozen books out there.I choose this book because I could relate to it.It explains very clearly everything you need to know to get started using it.It has pictures or diagrams on just about every page showing you exactly where to go and how to do what they are explaining.Then you are directed to a practice exercise or video (on the training disk which comes with the book) to reinforce what you have learned.In my opinion if you are "green" to this software this is the best book for the average lay person.I even tried taking an 8 week class on InDesign CS2 which used the Adobe "Classroom In A Book".I ended up dropping the class because I thought I could learn more efficiently on my own using this book.I can't tell you exactly why but I did not like Adobe's Classroom In a Book as well as Brian Wood's Hands-On Training. ... Straightforward, practical approach to web testing.
Lydia's book is probably the best written web testing book in the market.The prose is easy to follow, progressive, non-verbose, and sometimes even inspiring.She painfully explicates various testing principles with exacting examples.Published in 2003, some of the examples already show their age but the testing principles and problems are still current.Web technologies have evolved immensely in the last three years and this book would benefit from such updates in a second edition.

Good Reference
The Web Testing Companion is a manual written for both beginners and experienced web designers, and the author herself is a testing director at Microsoft. If you've had a few years' experience as a designer, developer or webmaster, then the material is not new to you; i.e., optimizing bandwidth, etc.
Excellent Web QA resource
This is the best book I have ever seen on the testing web applications. It covers everything from unicode to Javascript, from security to the validity of the HTML. It teaches through an understanding of the technology, then covers ways to stress the technology to look for bugs. The sections on character encodings and performance testing are particularly well done. This is a must have book for QA professionals tasked with testing a web application. ... Read more

The Soundtrack Pro Book
Mary Plummer, whose fun book on Apple Soundtrack helped walk users through the features of what was once a relatively limited utility, has upgraded the curriculum for the revamped Soundtrack Pro, a tool some have called "the Photoshop of audio". Now, as a Photoshop user myself, I wouldn't say Soundtrack has quite the depth to yet make that claim ... however, Apple has indeed rebuilt it from the ground up into what is leaps and bounds beyond the clip/loop manager it had been before. And Ms. Plummer, who has seen it grow each step of the way, has penned the best (if not only, at this time) source with which to learn its awesome capabilities.

A must if you need to pass the first time.
Depending on your experience this may be the only book you need to pass the 70-721 exam. I did require additional material but this book was certainly the major reason that I passed the exam with a 917 score.
Understanding XP
It is worth every Penny you spend. I will refer back to itfor years.

Workplace Compliance Purchase
I am within hours of retiring from "Corporate America." Then, why would I purchase such a boring piece of reading material? The answer is, the yuppies who run the company think they are doing us a favor by making us learn about technology that will be obsolete in weeks. Even worse they require the cost of that training to come out of our own pockets. I needed a training package to get a better review and a small bonus. Many Unanswered Questions
I read the book cover to cover while using it as a companion tutor to an on line dslr course. I found many of the steps not complete. I had basic questions on basic elements of PSE 3.0 and didn't find any mention of them in the book or index. I was left "wanting" for my answers on the basic of uses in Organizer and Editor.

Helpful book on how to use a powerful tool
I work as a copy editor at a newspaper, so I needed a book which would help me get started real quick!I played around a bit with Quark years ago, but I really needed it fleshed out for my understanding. Teach Yourself Illustrator
If you don't have the time or the money to take a lengthy class on Adobe Illustrator, just buy this book.There are a lot of instructional books out there for Illustrator and other Adobe programs, but this is by far the best and most concise.It includes a CD with lessons and images, and if you start at the beginning and plow through it, you'll learn Illustrator competently enough to get you up and running with the program.

This workbook is incredibly useful for gaining a thorough understanding of Adobe Illustrator.Shortcuts are introduced throughout the lessons and extra information is included in grey text boxes in the book along the way.Lessons are outlined well in the table of contents for quick reference.

This is a must-have book for all new Mac users and not only! A Common-Sense Book NOT Written for Dummies
