5-0 out of 5 stars Is the Internet Doomed?
Yes, if principles outlined in this book are not heeded.Strangely, the fundamental economics of copyright intellectual property have been glossed over by many eBusinesses seeking to grab "eyeballs" instead of dollars. No wonder so many "content sites" are failing. The selection of articles in this book is first rate and should be read by anyone in the publishing, music or software businesses. There is some advanced economic analysis with a fair bit of math, but the articles are quite accessible to non-economists like myself. You have just read a review of a book.Is my review "worth" anything? What did it "cost?"Will all books eventually by digital? Read this book to find out. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Resource
This book is an amazing resource to find factual information needed to successfully represent clients in the practice of law.Recently, another lawyer asked me for advice on how to locate medical information about a surgical procedure that caused pain and scarring to his client.Although I do not do med mal cases, I knew this book would have the information he needed.I pulled out the book and there was Chapter 12--entirely devoted to medical resources on the Internet, including a heading "Starting Point Web Sites for Medical Research." Both of us were impressed, and my colleague wrote down the title and authors to order the book as soon as he returned to the office! The book includes other chapters on Accessing Public Records, Backgrounding Expert Witnesses, Competitive Intelligence Research, Statistical Research, and more.A resource that should be in every lawyer's office!

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use - Even for Non-Lawyers
I'm not a lawyer and I find this book extremely useful and easy to use.5-0 out of 5 stars Finally A Comprehensive Guide
As a lawyer, I spend a great deal of time searching for information. This book is a fantastic resource and I highly recommend it to others. Levitt takes a very complicated area and makes it simple. This book is worth the investment. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Information For Criminal and Civil Case Forensics
There are many books on computer forensics investigations and incident response, but you won't find too many that tell you what you need to know to take the results of those forensic investigations and make it stand up in court. A Guide to Forensic Testimony (The Art and Practice of Presenting Testimony as an Expert Technical Witness) is an excellent book on this subject. Fred Chris Smith and Rebecca Gurley Bace share their knowledge and experience of the legal system and what it takes to make your computer forensic evidence stand up in court and what you need to do to sell yourself as an expert witness and stand up to cross-examination. The book covers a lot of legal technicalities as well as ethical and professional issues.

3-0 out of 5 stars read "Alan Turing: The Enigma"by Andrew Hodges instead
If your interest is in Alan Turing, and you are only just becoming familiar with him, you would probably be better served reading what many regard as not only an excellent biography of Alan Turing, but an excellent piece of biographical writing in and of itself, Andrews Hodges' ALAN TURING: THE ENIGMA.The current copy on the American Amazon site is an expanded and pricey edition, so you may want to go to the the United Kingdom Amazon site to get the slimmer, earlier edition, which not only costs less, but was also the basis for the award-winning play BREAKING THE CODE.After you've read Hodges' work, and wish to read more about Turing and his work and theories from other perspectives, then you may want to avail yourself on some of these other texts.

4-0 out of 5 stars I wish other reviewers would take a step back
As a dual computer science and English major, I find it refreshing when I stumble upon a computer science book that surveys the field from a more literary and philosophical perspective. (Galloway's "Protocol" is another example of such a work that I've encountered recently.)
4-0 out of 5 stars Sad ending to a great genius
This book gives a clear and accessible account of the life and the mathematical achievements of Alan Turing and his contributions to the development of cryptanalysis and the modern computer. Turing apparently committed suicide in the early 1950's because the British authorities were hounding him about his homosexuality. He was a man ahead of his time in one too many ways! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A very well documented book...
...and you don't really have to be a geek to read this one. As a matter of fact, this book is also a very entertaining one, even if you're not a programmer or a computer scientist.
3-0 out of 5 stars I hope that there is a 3.1 version
Having just read the book this summer (2004), much of the content that predicts the future points to current day reality. This only goes to show that both the visions of the future are never what is hoped for, and the more things change, the more they stay the same.1-0 out of 5 stars Rehashed newspaper articles

4-0 out of 5 stars Good content, a little dry, no CD-ROM included
I wanted to write up a quick review for you.The book has some excellent content, and covers all the important areas of running your own business and understanding all the legal issues involved. The sample contracts and agreements are detailed and provide an in-depth explanation for each section. For myself, it is being used to set up web site and be able to sell my software over the Internet. It isn't specifically geared towards people like myself, but it is one of the few books out there that deals with the very important area of Internet legal issues.4-0 out of 5 stars Solid legal advise
Having worked in this area for a while it was a pleasure to finally read a book that can fill in so many of the holes. This guide covers all the legal area of the internet. The examples are especially helpful -- and interesting. The complicate legal areas are explained in reasonable language. There are very good sections on trademark and domain names, and on the legal problem with setting up your own web site.

5-0 out of 5 stars From Bookviews.Com
You had better also read The Internet Legal Guide by Dennis M. This book will teach you how to protect yourself from unwanted e-business or legal problems, avoid cyberlaw pitfalls, and get the most from your Net operations. 5-0 out of 5 stars how to resist business ideology
In this book, Liu makes a persuasive argument that knowledge workers can resist the dominant postcapitalist business ideology from the inside by developing an "ethos of the unknown." The argument is dense, both philosophically and historically, but the book provides one of the best summaries available of the development of knowledge work and its relation to "cool."
3-0 out of 5 stars Disorganized insight
Full of striking observations but ultimately too disorganized and inconclusive to do justice to the question of the place of humanistic knowledge in a culture of knowledge that is "cool," technical, and purposive. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars
Littlejohn Shinder writes a fairly topical analyses of various facets of cybercrime -including several- what can only be described as Computers 101 sections but if you're a typical n00b then it will all seem like a glorious epiphany. In Ch 4 she gets a little on the didactic side where she attempts to debunk the various stereotypes and cliched mindsets associated with the hacking community but she falls far short of any real insight.
