New photographer
I came to Moab Utah to take photos of the great national parks and the state park (Dead Horse SP). After two weeks I bought the Really Right Stuff equipment for making horizontal and vertical panoramas. The photoshop CS2 books and the internet suggested that joining them would be easy to do. Hoever, this great book, shows that much more skill is needed in taking the photographs and using the software. The book gives an outline of the steps needed to compose the 8 digital panoramas but does not give exact details because considerable experiment is needed. In the first chapter where 3 images are joined to form an ice fall in an ice cave the photographer took 200 images. In the panoramic beach scene the waves were coninuously moving during the shooting so that an incredible amount of editing was needed to form a great image. This book shows what can be done if skill is used at every step Now I realise how much incredible work Max Lyons had to do to compose his terabyte image of Bryce Canyon. "The Photoshop CS2book for Digital Photographers" has a small chapter on panorams. An essential reference which should be a part of any solid photography book collection
Few books on photograph go into much detail or depth on handling panorama format photos, which makes the advice of Assembling Panoramic Photos: A Designer's Notebook important. Another feature which lends unique value: leading French photographers and artists present their techniques, translated by William Rodarmor for English readers, with step-by-step examples of technique beginning with initial shots and progressing to specific panoramic techniques. The end result is an essential reference which should be a part of any solid photography book collection.
Short on details
A picture may well be worth a thousand words, but 8 pictures doesn't add up to a a book. This book takes the reader through 8 photographs by 8 different photographers who outline the techniques they used to generate them. Although some of the pictures are impressive, this book is a bit short on detail. If you are looking to get started with Panoramic pictures, you'd best start with some other books. ... Read more

Useful Hacks for you digital camera
Digital Photography Hacks is a part of O'reilly's hacks series, which provide tricks and solutions for different fields. This book gives you tips and tricks when dealing with your digital camera.
Useful Tips, But Lots of Tips are Neither Hacks nor Industrial-Strength
I am an amateur photographer and I did learn a number of useful things from this book. However, I am rating it a 3, primarily because it contains few information on what I really bought this book for: to take better photos using my digital camera. I got the Digital Photography Pocket Guide, 2nd Edition by the same author at the same time as this book, and that one taught me more about how to take better digital photos.
Neat Little Photo Book
Be prepared, this book has no real theme. It is a hodgepodge of interesting stuff. The photoshop section is very good, which is surprising, as that is not the focus of the book. However, I learned a good deal from that section. Some of this stuff most people will never use, but it definately gets you thinking. Too much irrelevance, not enough basics
I'm a 'dummie' when it comes to PremierPro, and I found this book hopeless.It is long on chatty asides and advice, and gets you lost in all sorts of tangents.I JUST WANT TO LEARN HOW TO EDIT!!My suggestion (beyond a new author) is to restructure the book so that it works through basic tutorials first and then more advanced editing later in the book. As it is now structured, all 'editing' info gets lumped into one chapter, from basic to advanced, and you can easily lose track of your objective as a student.Even then, basic questions are hard to find.Like 'how do I break up a long clip that I've uploaded into smaller clip files'?I also found the index sucks. Want to find out about the 'trim' window?Looking for info on 'cutting'?Want to know how to turn on/off the timeline?Good luck on all these. In the end I found the Adobe online tutorials were far more clear and to the point.Don't waste your money on this one.PremierPro is complex, and this book confuses and frustrates more than it helps.I suspect it wasn't really written with dummies like me in mind:check out the mind boggling chapter on color correction...

Great Starting Point
If you are just entering the digital video world, and you don't know what a codec is, you need this book.The author explains everything and creates a foundation to build the concepts of video editing. A Great Guide to Premiere 6.5!
You want a book that really packs in some substance? If so, this book is for you. This author didn't waste time on stuff you already know. Rather, he clearly knows Premiere 6.5 and knows all of the inside info Adobe won't tell you. This book offers a concise primer of video editing terms and technology, giving us just the info we need to produce great movies for the Web or video. Beware of Books That Say They Are Complete
First of all I am a fairly serious amateur photographer, and had my own darkroom before digital cameras came on the scene, and I love working with Photoshop.
Great information.
I've been using an Epson wide-format printer for quite awhile, but I still learned something from this book.It covers more than the Epson line, too, so I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about how to get the best output of their digital images.

Good book for beginners
I brought this book based on good review here and read it through.I found some mistakes, also disapointed for not going to details in other chapters or not talking some important things in photography.But I think for people never taking picture before, this is a good book to introduce photograph to them.

This is a great book for someone who knows little about photography except how to push the button and maybe get the pictures on their computer. Its filled with lots of information in easily digestible amounts.

Solid information
Title: Real World Digital Photography, 2nd Edition
This is the book to have!
Having undertaken a number of photography courses and worked in digital for some years I was not expecting this 'prescribed text' for a Uni course to be adding anything to what I already owned.
What ever I feel like i wanna take photos of. Gosh.
I used this book as a text book during a digital photography class at Rice University. It guides you from very basic information about both photography and digital photography, through very advanced techniques for getting the most out of your camera and images. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants begin, or improve their digital photography and photoshop skills. afterall, everyone know that girls only like guys with skills.

Much easier to understand.
Color correction is an important topic, and yet most Photoshop books gloss over it.This one is different -- the entire book is devoted to the ways in which you can perfect the color of your digital images.Adobe Camera RAW, while not my favorite raw file tool, makes a good test bed to show the techniques needed to create good color.However, I feel the most important contribution of this book is the emphasis on standardization.Once you've characterized your devices and set up the right profiles, gotten your lighting under control, and set up a set of good practices, you're well on the way towards getting consistently good color, all the time.This book will help you do that.

Great book for your Photoshop reference shelf!
I found this book to be far easier understand than other advanced books on Photoshop color correction I've read. The concept of using color profiles is finally explained clearly, without all the overlytechnical jargon. Great tips throughout. Highly recommended.

There are better books
The problem with this book is that it attempts to cover a lot of material, but with very little depth or detail. I provides a broad overview, but doesn't provide much needed detail. The are many better books out there on digital photography. Better of spending more money to get a better book than wasting $10-$15 for this one.

Waste of Money..... I want my wasted time back.
This books drags on, explains little and for someone like myself that is just starting in Photography and wants an understanding in common Photographic terms is useless. The following terms are not explained in Mr. Ang's Glossary at all, and too much space is given to Computer for Dummies dialog. This was my orange sherbet.
Choosing an introductory level technical guide is something like ordering ice cream in a foreign language: all the flavors might be good, but you probably won't feel satisfied if you wanted orange sherbet and wind up with rocky road.Read more

When I first picked up Adobe Photoshop 6.0, I almost gave up on it because I had no idea how it worked.Instead I searched around for a book to teach me how to use it.Well, Photoshop 6.0 Classroom in a Book was the right one to chose!Simple, step by step lessons teach you about each feature of 6.0.If you're brand new to Photoshop, this book will make you an expert!

Good for "How?" not "Why?" or "What?"
If you want the practice and need a step-by-step lesson, this is a good book.I did want the step-by-step practice, and I'm still glad I bought the book.However, it only tells you what to do.It's not very good at explaining why you're doing it or what exactly the overall effect will be.Also, any tool, filter, etc. that you don't learn about in the lessons, you don't really learn about at all.I think it's a great book for practice, but it's probably best used in conjunction with another book that doesn't have lessons but gives a better explanation of the tools, what they do, and when and why to use them.An example is probably Photoshop 6 For Dummies.I haven't bought it yet, but I've looked through it, and I think it will be helpful if used along with Classroom in a Book. ... Confusing Mishmash
This book appears to have a lot of helpful information in it, but there are a lot of gaps. It takes a subject and touches the tip of every iceberg, but leaves way too much information out and assumes way too much knowledge on the user's part. The photos of the projects are horrid; just barely ledgible and convey no real information about what each step is trying to accomplish. The section on superimpostion is a hash of jargon and half formed concepts. Useful if you can get it cheap, but otherwise save your dough.

Don't buy this
I bought this book out of desperate at a neighborhood book store, and found out it was no more than the User Guide came with the application. Invest your money for something else.

Good Book on Production; Little behind on modern technology
I wanted a book that would help my amateur videography skills. I decided to go with the Videomaker Guide based on its original Amazon rating, and the history of Videomaker magazines.

I have not finished this book completely, but so far...so good. This book literally seems to cover every aspect of production. Whether you're fresh out of school or well established in the business, this is a great book to keep on hand.

The Best Book of Its Kind
How many times have you taken a photograph that was "almost perfect"?You know what I mean.Either there's something in the background you didn't notice, a shadow or blemish on someone's face, or worse yet, it's the best photograph you've ever had taken of yourself, but your stomach was sticking out.As someone who has worked with Photoshop pretty regularly for a few years, I'm happy to say I can remedy most of those situations.Although I've used 'Photoshop for Dummies' and it has been helpful, 'Skin' offers suggestions most photographers never even though about.It was mostly through creativity and tenacity that Photoshop worked fairly well for me.It wasn't until I read 'Skin' that I realized I was working entirely too hard to achieve the effects I was after.Achieving appropriate skin tones is no longer guess work, eliminating or softening facial lines is a snap, and balancing colors throughout the photo has become a mandatory element.Trial and error is no longer a prerequisite in my photography.Author Lee Varis offers more information than I will ever use as an amateur. However, whether or not I ever incorporate all this information into my photography, it was fascinating to read about how easily it's all done.For me, the portrait "tricks" alone make this book worth while.I plan to keep it on my desk and use it every time I work on a photo. ... Beautifullyi llustrated by some very good photographers
I have mixed emotions about this book. The book is beautifully illustrated by some of the leaders in the wedding field. The tone of the book, though, is often gushingly sentimental, which may be the state of wedding photography today(Try out a fuzzy picture of a bride daydreaming over her SHOES). Still, Hurter tries to present a balanced picture of wedding photographer as it is today - discussing traditional vs. photojournalism approaches and their pros and cons. Unlike many how-to photography books of this genre, The Best of Wedding Photography is a very beautiful book filled luscious wedding photographs. The photographers selected are from well-known wedding photographers in the field. For the photographs alone, you will want to go back to this book again and again. It is also wonderful handbook on photographic tips and techniques from the masters in the field. Great advice on portraits, groups, lighting, various approaches and albums.
