2-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality photographs mar book that otherwise might be useful
Is this guy really a pro?I found many of the photographs in this book to be poorly composed or just generally a boring photo. The suggested alterations seems to just be for the point of demonstrating what you can do.Is the author really that short on good photographs that he wants to recompose or enhance?
4-0 out of 5 stars Milburn's book on Expert Techniques for the Digital Photographer
This is an excellent book for the advanced digital camera user.It is mainly written for Pros. While it says it is for Photoshop CS users it also covers a lot of other sources.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Fair Reference and Poor Lesson
This book started out great. After some explanation, it guided me through a simple video editing project in the first chapter that worked and communicated some basic ideas. It got me excited about learning more and then it disappointed me bitterly.
1-0 out of 5 stars Sloppy publishers!
I cannot fault the authors, or what might be terrific content. But the publishers released a really messed up run of copies with misnumbered or missing pages; further, the accompanying DVD wouldn't load.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
As a novice Premiere user, I found this book to be thorough and comprehansive. It provided all of the information I needed to get going, and I've referred to it many times in the past couple of months when I just needed a guidance on a particular situation. Some of the screenshots are dark, but still useful if not highly aesthetic. The files on the DVD are very useful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book & CD
Couldn't go another day without thanking you for this great "Photoshop Elements 2 Solutions" Book. After completing half of the Books Photo Exercises which gives the simplest, precise way to acheive the best professional results, I've finally learned Photoshop. This has evaded me for years spent on other learning programs. I just couldn't understand how the layers related and applied to each other for the background or how to work on them to get a final finish quality photo. The exercises were easy and understandable and fun to learn. Plus all those Plug-Ins on the CD.
5-0 out of 5 stars Photoshop Elements 2 Solutions
Excellent book.Gives you step by step instructions on how to do some neat things with your digital photos.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid like the plague
I bought this book expecting the enclosed CD to be a full tutorial. It is not. If you read far enough into the fine print it does say it is a trial (read demo) copy. To my sorrow I didn't see this; all I read was "100 before images" and "follow along with the book". Sounds great, but what you get is software that shows you what the real thing WOULD do if you bought it. Legal but morally reprehensible. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Wow
As mentioned in another of my reviews, I had the pleasure of taking a three day class with this author. To be honest, I really didn't have any interest in the digital black and white before I took this class. When he mentioned he was going to talk about it, I half heartedly stayed to listen. His lecture was basically an overview of this book. The history of infrared is quite fascinating and the author covers it in depth in the beginning. He then explains the differences and similiarities between using infrared film and digital infrared. Part of why I had little interest in digital infrared was my very disappointing results with Kodak infrared film. It was such a pain to use.
5-0 out of 5 stars Buy This Book If You Are Interested In Infrared
For anyone interested in infrared photography, this is absolutely THE book to buy. The author really knows his stuff. The images are amazing! There is a lot of technical information and practical tips for any photographer.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST Infrared Book!
This is by far the best book on infrared that I have read. The title is misleading because there is a lot of information about infrared film as well as digital infrared. As far as I can tell, this is the only book written on doing infrared with a digital camera.

5-0 out of 5 stars For whom should you gift this book?
Gift this book to anyone who you know who feels intimidated by digital cameras, or camcorders, and anyone who is not very clear about what to do with those pictures and movies after they've taken them. This is a very comfortable read, and no one will feel as if they are being talked down to. There is a lot of useful information in this book, easy to follow, with tips that even the most experienced techno-geek can learn from.
5-0 out of 5 stars Going Digital
A great book for learning how to really, REALLY, use your digital camera and camcorder. Lots of great ideas and software suggestions (many free and most very affordable) for doing a lot of neat things that you may never have thought of. Well worth the money.

Matt Bamberg's book Digital Art Photography for Dummies is an excellent resource for both the beginner and the advanced student of Digital Photography. 5-0 out of 5 stars From good to great!
This book helped me to go from being a good amateur photographer to a great amateur photographer. Each of the 107 chapters provides a short lesson for you to read and digest, before going out to practice with your own digital camera and computer. It took me about 3 months to finish the book, and a year later I still refer back to it from time to time.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good photo guide
This book gives you some very good tips on how to improve your photographs.Excellent help with photo shop, (better than the photo shop help). The best part about this book and author is that if you have any questions, you can email Mr. Sammons.I had some questions about other bookshe has written and emailed him expecting not to hear back for several weeks. He responded the next day!

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon EOS-1D(s) Mark II User Manual
Very similar to the smaller sized original manual with a few more descriptive bits here and there. Better quick ref cards. Mixes in bits of general photo theory & teaching that makes the many settings more relevant. Good inclusions of what not to set (items not needed as these cameras exceed the usual reasons to use).
2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed too
This book offers very little about these cameras that is not in the manual. What it does offer that is not in the manual are general discussions that any photographer owning one of these cameras would know. I had hoped to get an understanding of how and when to use the features that are unigue to these cameras, a discussion of the custom functions and personal functions for example. The coverage of these subjects is not much more than a list of the functions and what their default setting are, just what's in the manual. Canon has a white paper that gives some of this information. You can find it at Photoworkshop http://photoworkshop.com/canon/EOS_Digital.pdf

4-0 out of 5 stars Expands on the User Manual
I purchased this book because I wanted more information about my 1Ds MkII than the Canon user's manual contained.I was pleased that this book did expand upon the user's manual, and was clearly written. It follows the format of the Canon user's manual and I would guess that this book adds 15% of new information to the Canon manual...not a lot, but it really is a valuable 15%. I'm glad I bought it. This book is not written as a "How-To" guide. I want one of those, too, and will continue looking. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars iPhoto 5 Missing Manual
The book was as advertised, arrived in very good time and in excellent condition.

3-0 out of 5 stars Look out! This book is obsolete.
Do not buy this book unless, for some reason, you are determined to use an obsolete version of iPhoto. The newest version of iPhoto is iPhoto 6 (SIX!!!) and it is VERY different from iPhoto 5.(Sorry David, I wish your book was for iPhoto 6.I would buy it then. I do have your Mac OS X Tiger Edition, and it is GREAT!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful, beautifully, and worth every penny!
Picking up this book, the first thing you notice is how great is looks. It's printed in full color, with screen shots on nearly every page. I started the book expecting to jump right in to using iPhoto, but found that the entire first section of the book covers buying the right digital camera and a a guide to taking great looking pictures. I skimmed this section rather quickly as I already owned a camera and understand the basics of lighting and composing pictures. What I did read looked very useful for someone getting into photography for the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Intro To Digital Photoghraphy
After purchasing my first digital camera recently, I read "The Little Digital Camera Book".I had previous experience with film cameras but soon realized that I needed general information on manipulating, storing and printing digital files.I foung this book very useful for obtaining a basic understanding of organizing files, using different file types and using image or photo editing software. This book also explains the printing possibilities, from do-it-yourself to local printing establishments to on-line resources for photo printing."The Little Digital Camera Book" is relevant to PC and Mac users alike, and is an excellent value.

4-0 out of 5 stars Chris SeiboldMyMac.com Book Review
If you were lucky enough to receive a digital camera for Christmas you may be wondering just how to use said new gizmo. Perhaps your questions are even more fundamental: Is this the camera for me? If it's not can I exchange this camera for a cheaper one and keep the difference? Just where does the film go anyway? Cynthia Baron wants to answer your questions and she wants to make a little dough in the process. To achieve this laudable goal she and Daniel Beck have written The Little Digital Camera Book. The Little Digital Camera Book is a good read for anyone who just bought a digital camera and a great book for anyone who is getting ready to buy a digital camera. The Little Digital Camera Book is not as well suited for the intermediate user or for the budding Ansel Adams who understands the technical aspects and aspires to take better pictures.5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I'd Had This Book when I Bought My Digital Camera??

3-0 out of 5 stars It's an okay read
This is a very lightweight read regarding the process of production. It's more of a personal journal, blog-style account than anything substantial a reader can learn from. However, it does have merit in that respect. So, if you're a newbie and want to get your feet wet, this may be a book you'd like to read to get yourself into those baby steps.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hillman should get an Oscar.
For anyone wanting to create a short film, web or otherwise, this book is a great starting point. Curtis takes you through some of his works and offers insights into projects - success and not so successful. The candid approach to the work runs more like a one man show of dialogue. Do not expect a How To format. Curtis is all about letting you in on his experiences.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ver good read
This is a very good book. I didn't think too highly of Hillman before this book, and was under the impression that he was sort of a hack, and happened to be in the right place at the right time for much of his design career.

Enfield's book has a very impressive sounding title but compared to The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes (Christopher James), or Coming Into Focus (John Barnier), it falls far short of being "A Complete Guide." This book is a nice introduction to some of the techniques a beginning student, interested in the subject, might investigate.

Being new to NLE editing, I bought Premiere Pro and this book.Unfortunately, the books simply tells the user to click this, and drag that. But it does not say WHY the user is doing these actions.I could follow most of the examples in the book, but couldn't figure out how to actually use the program for my own projects! For me, I need an explanation of why I'm supposed to click/drag/type instead of a "march-in-lockstep" and don't ask why mentality!

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Horrible
Adobe should be absolutely ashamed for actually releasing such a piece of literary garbage. This book will definitely teach you some decent basics of PPro if you have a good tolerance for mistakes and don't mind spending a significant amount of time trying to reverse engineer things to try and figure out what the book 'MEANT' to say.
5-0 out of 5 stars Adobe Premier Pro
I bought this book and believe it is very easy to understand. I just bought Adone Premier pro Studio technics. Both of them are very useful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mastering Digital Nude Photography
If you are seriously interested in taking photographs of beautiful naked models, then this is the kind of book you won't be able to put down. It's rammed full of insightful little tips and tricks and amusing anecdotes. Explaining everything in a coherent and concise manner, from how to approach potential models, right through to tweaking and correcting the final print, without ever becoming patronizing or overly techie.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Excellent Read
I have all 3 of Rod's books. The first 2 were all about the information and were rather impersonal in his approach in showing you. This book rather has a very personal touch to it. Its like he is sitting with you explaining everything one on one. It is chuck full of information and a lifetime of experience. All you have to do is read and learn from it.
1-0 out of 5 stars Poor
I thought that the book will examine the techniques in deep detail, hence the "Mastering" in the title, but I was wrong.

This book had not arrived when I fled Katrina Hurricane

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent to start with Photoshop !
It is the first time I spend the time writing a review for a book on amazon. I decided to do it for TYV Photoshop Elements because of its excellent quality. I tried a few other Photoshop books before and couldn't go further than page 30 because text is definitely not adequate to teach you how to use a software dedicated to imaging. This book is just perfect for beginners like me who want to understand how the various functionalities of the software can be used to realize what they want. You get a double page per function, very clear and precise, easy to read and to understand. Along with this one, I bought The Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements 2 (that I have not started yet) to get into the hairy details...

3-0 out of 5 stars Fast, Visual Guide
Photoelements 2 is a powerful, complex program that is far from intuitive to use.Abode's manual lists the functions of the program but provides little advice as to when to use each function - and this is needed.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great addition to any artist and Photoshop users collection.
If like me you don't know anyone personally who happens to be a great artist and expert Photoshop user at the same time then you'll find a friend in this book.I've learned a few tips and it's great to know I've got them from such accomplished talent.
5-0 out of 5 stars Peek Over The Shoulder Of World-Class Artists
If you are a traditional artist considering incorporating your computer into your artistic repertoire, this book is a great starting point. Even if you have already discovered how helpful your computer is for creating artwork, you will find the techniques in this book will extend your digital skills. Although Adobe Photoshop is widely considered the industry standard in professional image editing and photo retouching software, this book is about using Photoshop as an art medium. In this book, part of the O'Reilly Designer's Notebook series, you will learn from and be inspired by nine world-class French artists who used Photoshop to create the featured artwork.
5-0 out of 5 stars A winner for Right Brain Artists
Take nine world class French digital artists, add Photoshop, a dash of good writing and a heady helping of creativity and you have "Illustrations with Photoshop". As a digital artist, I was intrigued by the title though suspicious. I was an Illustrator devotee but found limitations when it came to colorization. Photoshop is the means to unbelievable eye-poppin'illustrations. I've found most how-to design books to be bland, dry, deserts of left brain techno-babble. I was surprised to discover a full-color right brain revival of design and effect. The book itself is well designed and flows well over the glossy pages with artist notes and lots of pleasing images devoid of stark techno-structure. There is enough variety of art styles represented that it will appeal to most creatively inclined readers.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not That Useful
I read Sheppard's book primarily with the hope of better understanding what an SLR would offer vs. a quality point-and-shoot digital camera, and what various lens might offer, given a particular SLR."PCPhoto Digital SLR Handbook" provided neither.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to What you get with Digital SLRs
Digital SLR's offer two real advantages over the much more common point and shoot cameras.
