A perfect book for ADO
this is a very good book, comparing to MSDN ADO note on the web, which covers only access to .mdb database, this book covers a variety of methods and databases. Thank for the great contribution.

Visual Basic ADO Book
This is a well written book for existing programmers who want to learn ADO. While the examples are in Visual Basic, the core concepts of ADO are very detailed and anyone with an understanding of a similar language, such as ASP or C++ should have no trouble applying the examples to the other language. It will not help you if you don't already know how to program. Its all here.
You can't get a more complete ADO book.. ever gritty detail is in this book.. It's almost too much information.:- ) if you code ADO.This is a good book to have. Read more

Don't Waste Your Money
This book is copyright year 2000. Think about it! I just bought this book and I threw it away. I can't belive other people are selling this book on amazon. The title should be History of Affiliate Selling pre-y2k. There is No usable information in this book,Unless your are a history buff.

More on the relationship between security issues and HA
as I was reading this otherwise excellent book, I noticed that there was a very important theme (to my understanding), which wasn't honored enough attention; namely, issues relating to the `Secure Socket Layer' protocol and availability, which directly translates to money coming your or someone else's way. Even better than the first edition!
I bought the first edition of this book, and it became so dog-eared from everyone borrowing it that I was about to order another, when I saw there was a secodn edition. This one is even better that the first. If you need action items and you need set-up help for providing the kind of network your boss wants and needs, this is the book for you.

Great book on system/data availability

Excellent
I thought this book was very imformative and helped me understand how I could use my mobile phone in other ways. Certainly the wireless companies do not come anywhere close to properly educating people about other uses for the phone then calling. Thank you.

Demystifying but not thorough.
I was disappointed that this book included practically nothing on the actual SMSC handshaking and protocols, nor about actual SMS, EMS, or MMS specifications, etc..The book seems geared very much towards management types who are trying to decide whether or not to implement mobile messaging in their business strategy.The history of SMS and case studies of successful text messaging business implementations get focus.It is not a practical reference for an actual developer and provides next to nothing in technical information.

Badly written
This book was written in a hurry to catch the SMS wave and it stinks from it. Many chapters were written by different people with different styles of writing, some more eloquent than others. Consequenty it makes for bad reading.Read more

Waiting for the insanity to stop...
Micro$oft is famous for its ability to push out new development technologies. The reason behind this planned obsolesence is obvious, every time they come out with something new people will have to open their wallets to "keep up." A very easy introduction to COM.
Not as good as "Inside COM" which I also rate as a 5 star book but is simpler to understand and can be used very effectively in conjunction with the above named book. Very reasuring to the reader.

Leaves out important code / project settings
I must admit I have just read the 5 first chapters these last 3 days and I feel I've gained a deeper understanding of COM. - However the authors does not state how to set up the VC++ project settings to get the code to work.- I've been fighting of Linker errors most of the time since I startedtyping in the code. It may be I am not proficient enough in VC++ but with alittle help from the book I could be focusing on COM instead of VC++quirks. Read more

Detailed Brochure
This book does not give much information on implementing PeopleSoft technically.Rather, it's a book that advertises the capabilities of PeopleSoft and its different Modules.This book teaches consultants how to do project management rather than how to use peopletools.I would not recommend this book for technical people.It's a book for consultants, who wants to know things to consider in implementing peoplesoft, what resources are needed and how to go about with a project.But it won't teach you how to really use peoplesoft. ... An Excellent Book
I used this book for Dr. Andrews' parallel computing class many years ago and LOVED this book.This book covers a wide ranging topics of parallel computing and is a good enough reference for 99% people out there.
I've never read anything worse than this in any subject ever
I've read a few books on computer science and mathematics, being a university student in both subjects. However, I've never read anything nearly as conjested as this book. Basically its 665 pages of randomly mixed crap. The book provides all material needed for a beginner to easily acquire knowledge required for development and beginner's research in the field of parallel computation.It's written though not for a beginner inprogramming, solid basics and initial knowledge of OS internals areprerequisites. I found it's easy to read and understand with a mass ofuseful examples and with coverage of MPI and Java. This was especiallyimportant to since it bridges the theory in the earlier sections withpractical implementations using production environment tools. In overall Istrongly recommend it for those who are new to the field. For a more deepdiscussion on parallel algorithms one may want to look at F.T. A complete handbook
This book is not a common Data Mining/Data Warehousing book. It has the objective of being a complete handbook, and it is successful in its aim. It gives the readers a good background that helps in answering the common questions a practitioner has. To summarise: the authors of the book managed to describe the whole subject area, that is not so easy to find in other books on these topics. To achieve that knowledge we should read many other publications from different areas.

Great Book on Concepts and Motivations
I read this book a couple of years ago, then found it useful again recently when my work re-involves building data warehouses.This book has clear coverage on many topics in database and data warehouse.Authors often include descriptions of technologies as well as the motivation of using such technologies. Good enough to pass but...
The practice exam on the cd was terrible and some sections are a bit patchy.If you buy the equivalent book for 70-175 you'll find that about 60% of this book is duplicated in that book. However, this book was my only resource and I passed the exam with just over 780.I think I could have done much better had I bought transcender.

It does the job
I used this book to pass the exam. I scored 957. I did get a few questions in the exam that were either not covered adequately or not at all in this book. But, I do feel that the book did provide a solid resource for the key parts of the exam, i.e. ADO, MTS, COM and n-tier technology. I would only recommend this book to people that have a fairly solid background in VB and want to pass the exam.

Good only at the basics
This book is good for walking you through the basics. It is weak at providing insights into the product.A section on trouble shooting would be helpful.

I recommend this book because the author distinguishes multidimensional concepts and the OLAP tool.
An okay starting book on Analysis Services
I recently bought this book and have read about 7 chapters. The book is useful to get hands-on experience on how the Analysis Manager works. How can you use it to make basic cubes, dimensions etc. Also, there is a couple of chapters on MDX and the MDX sample application that comes with Analysis Services. In general I found the book useful because it made me familiar with the UI of Analysis Manager, but reading the book was hard. True to its name "Step by Step" the book focuses on "How to do things" (like click here , click there, heres the screen shot you should expect to see) without explaining in ANY detail about why you are doing what you are doing. There is no gradual build-up of concepts. If a chapter says it will take you 2.5 hours to complete, it will take that much time because of the step-by-step nature. I personally find this approach hard to follow. I would have liked if the book devoted a few pages in the beginnign of the chapter explaining the concepts and then went on to show you how to do this with the analysis manager. ... Read more

Its What You Need. Seriously!
I have been a Web Design and Developer since 1998. I picked up this book in 2002 because I wanted to learn how to create an online database program and a e-commerce store. I picked it up at my local book store and found that it was very easy to read.

Soup to Nuts
A must read for any technical manager who is responsible for a system that uses replication or is planning to do so.Technologists (DBA, SA, DA, Developer,..) will also gain valuable insight into the world of data replication that the vendor documentation does not provide.The decision tree (pg215) and the case study take this book over the top.

"The Only Game in Town" situation keeps it from being a 10
It's tough to find an entire book on the subject of replication.Most database books give only a chapter's worth of lip service to the topic, if that much, and then move on to the other "important" chapters.I can't even count how many "advanced" database books I have that devote an entire chapter on introducing SQL, yet skip this advanced topic.Distributed apps require distributed data and this book defintiely covers a lot of ground in the right direction. Good Book
I really liked this book. It was very informative. Although published by HP Press, the book talks extensively about other Unix platforms as well as NT. The book is probably one year old by now, but I still recommend it. The authors cover almost every hardware option you can think of. A must read for any IT person planning an SAP Implementation.

Dated, But still Good
The book is dated, and some of the examples, like the ones usingPython are out of sync with current libraries. But, overall, the book is still valuable.It begins with a nice forward from an XML-RPC insider - Dave Winer;he was intimately involved in the evolution of the XML-RPC spec and you get a rare glimpse into the discussions that resulted in the technology spec -something that you rarely find in tech books. The next best thing about the book are the authors - they are totally in charge of the subject being developers themselves and experienced authors. With reasonable examples,tips and insights on XML-RPC - the technology itself, plus various language implementations of XML-RPC libraries, this book written on an under hyped and flawed,but successful loose integration and web services technology is a good read. Apart from sections explaining the protocol itself, the major portion of the book is devoted to Java,Perl, and Python implementations of the standard, integrating web applicationswith XML-rpc using PHP,and bridging ASP and COM.

Not many people are aware of how the whole idea behind SOAP and, later, Webservices, started from XML-RPC. It covers some interesting background information on how XML-RPC was born, and good coverage of its strengths and shortcomings, plus examples in five different languages (Perl, Python, ASP, PHP, Java)

Good but not perfect...
This book gives you a very good feel for the exam; and reading it from end to end atleast twice would give a good chance of passing the exam. I have passed the exam but I did not entirely rely on this book. Relying on this book entirely is not recommended.
