Five Stars For Beginners!
I found this book by shelf-shopping at MicroCenter in Dallas.My brother, who is a mechanical engineer, mentioned needing a cluster computer for his work.It was the first I'd ever heard about this sort of contraption, although I've been a hardware-hacker for years, and have played around with Slackware and RedHat since 1996.
In-depth contents with real-life examples
I've been dealing with Linux clustering for a while. I found the basic and difficult concepts are well explained and useful for newbies and more experienced.The book makes you want to read more with interesting, practical sample codes. The author is very knowledgeble and hits a nail right on the head. Disappointing

Great for the person needing process knowledge of FI or CO
I have ordered/read 6 books on the FI and CO modules in the last two weeks.My experience is that this book is the most detailed and beneficial of all.For someone who is looking to understand the process side of these SAP modules I would strongly recommend this book.If you are looking to learn more about the config, BUY A CONFIG book, not this one.The negative reviews seem to be related to the fact that people don't understand what this book is trying to accomplish (process understanding).If you have a medium understanding of SAP R/3 and a limited to medium knowledge base of accounting (internal and external) concepts, this book is a winner.

Useless material
FI/CO is most popular and CO is the key module.In this book, nothing is helpful. I am very disappointed. I do not understand what purpose for the author to publish this book. Perhaps the author is very experienced, but the book is really useless in this field.

Don't buy this book
I found this 500-page book completely useless.The book doesn't have any (!) illustrations, it's plain text only, and it basically rephrases standard SAP OnLine Help.I found the standard SAP FI/CO Online Help morereadable than this book ... ... Read more

Excellent for beginners
I bought this book as a complete Oracle novice, transitioning from Microsoft T-SQL to PL/SQL. I was worried about the transition being difficult until I read this book. Well-Organized, Useful Examples, Easy to Read
Although the information was accurate and useful, I think the strength of this book was it's clear and logical presentation.It is easy to read and very helpful.For example, I needed to know how to dynamically build the"where" clause for select statements and his chapter on DBMS_SQLgave me the tools to accomplish my task at work.

This is definitely an excellent book. No one should rank it less than 5 stars just because it was published in 1996. Please do some research before talk. I purchased this book for my client server class. I had to go out and purchase the client server for dummies to explain and illustrate client server technologies. Nice book
This is one of the best books on distributed computing I have read. Distributed algorithms by Tel comes next. This book is elegantly simple in description. It covers a broad range of topics (including new stuff like Slicing) (at least it had everything I wanted and more. The chapters are small and the author says they are equivalent to one classroom lecture, which makes for easy reading. The algorithms are all pseudo code (I like the style) though unfortunately there is no real code (though I found the actual Java code on the author's site). The approach is might be a bit too formal for some people though it was exactly what I was looking for. ... Read more

Overall the content was very good but too many errors
The content of the book was good.Overall I am pleased with it.The one flaw I have with the book is the number of errors in it.These errors range from spelling errors to grammatical errors to mislabeling of figures(charts) to errors in some of the coding examples.I would have expectedthe book to have been edited a little better than it was.I would haverecommended the book but the publishers need to do a better job editingfuture editions.

very good book
Derek Ball brings PB to developers in a comprehensive, straight-forwardmanner. The well-done organization, format, and figures make this guideworth reading from beginning to end. The Developer's Tips and appendicesare truly useful tools and compliment the main text. Also, this guide'sthorough index makes it an excellent reference. The only reason I didn'tgive it a ten is that it's weak on external DLL information, but then so isevery other PB book I've found. Of the current PB books available this is,by far, the one I use most.

A great resource book!
I found this to be an excellent book covering many intermediate and advanced topics.This book is definitely not for beginners unless you already have programming experience using Visual Basic, etc.The coverage of changes in PowerBuilder 6.0 with it's migration issue warnings is very helpful. Has some good info, but still a little thin
I purchased this book so that I could hopefully get started pulling data from Amazon's API. When I went through the book, I found that the examples used were not explained well enough to my liking.
Out of date, not useful for non-programmers
I knew going in that this would not have much use for me... that's okay, one tidbit of information could pay for the book many times over.

I wish I had my money back.
This book was a waste of time and money.This is the worst technical book I have ever read.The second bullet on the the cover states, "Learn how to develop and intergrate the SD module with your existing SAP R/3 system.".This is very misleading as this book is nothing more than a high-level overview of SD and goes into no detail on "how" to develop anything.I also have the MM book by the same name and it also is worthless.

No customising!
I should have paid more attention to the title. It's called "Administering" SAP R/3 and not "Customising". It explains how to use the different SD functions not how to implement them.Unfortunately, it cannot be recommended to users either because it is tootechnical and does not explain things in a comprehensive manner. There aresome books that emphasise the business process and help you decide how toimplement this in SAP. This is not one of them. This book is smack in themiddle of a no-mans land. It's no good for customising, no good for usersand no good for planning business processes. Publication of the SAP online help!

Very Good Overview
Gives a good overview of PeopleSoft.I read this in just a few days and was up and running with the basics.It's a small and easy to read book.Step by step instruction with lots of visuals/screenshots.A little outdated but the core basics are the same. I would highly recommend this for someone new to PeopleSoft or who is interviewing for a PeopleSoft related position.It will give you just the facts you need to impress your boss!
Complaint
You told me you credited my credit care and your system is telling me that I bought the above book. Which one is which? If PeopleSoft were this easy, we would be out of a job
I actually found this book to be quite simple and straight forward.Although, it really is not for the ultra-techinical person, it is a great overview of PeopleSoft and HRMS in particular.I found its chapters onusing the Query tool to be excellent for a beginner and a great refresherfor an experienced PeopleSoft user.If you are looking for a book thatwill prepare you for class and as a quick reference, this is more thanadequate, but if you are looking for a book that is going to teach you theintricate workings of PeopleSoft, this is not it.At my current place ofemployment, this is a hot book because the chapters are straight forward,short, and written in a very simple style. The only reason why this bookwill not get five stars is because it really does not delve into otherreporting tools used with PeopleSoft, particularly SQR. Informative But Poorly Written
There's a lot of relevant information in this book, but the authors have a repetitive, rambling, and sometimes vague style that makes it anything but a pleasure to read.You really have to work to sift the wheat from the chaff here.It could be easily condensed to half its size without losing any information.

Very well written
I don't normally comment, but I don't know what book the reader from Minn. was reading. I'm guessing he meant to review a different book. This is not a "German" book at all. This is the clearest, best written bookon SAP I've read, and I've read most of them. If you need an introductionto the business logic behind SAP, this is the book to buy.

Need English Version?
This is my third book on SAP R/3. This book is another example of poorly written book on SAP. Though the topics are categorized very carefully and intelligently, the text in the book is in the language that requires'translation in English.' The terms are either ill defined or if defined,then they have been used inconsistently. It was hard to get out the conceptbehind a topic, since authors give scattered information without focusingon main idea. OSCAR info badly out of date
I recently installed an OSCAR cluster on our PowerEdge SC1425 servers; Since the book just came out this year, I thought it would provide some more up to date insights into items that are not included in the install manual.
Cheap open source
The free open source nature of Linux has driven its growth in general purpose client and server side usages. Here, Sloan takes linux into the rarefied context of high performance computing. Atop linux, he explains the merits of open source packages like Oscar and Rocks, to run your cluster. The basic motivation for him describing all this is the relatively low cost of using the machines. This can be a significant issue if your budget is limited or if you plan to have many machines in the cluster.

Informative and helpful
I'm new to PeopleSoft A good start but......
A good book to have in your PeopleSoft library. It does give someone with a (very)good understanding of Database Administration a heads up about "PeopleSoft" and how to implement and plan integration with(different) Hardware Platforms. Awful writing, dry and kinda pointless
Unfortunately, there are simply not very many good resources for PS admins out there.The only upside is that the ERP structure of the system is not so bad that you can't muddle through on your own. Read more

Excellent Book

Applies to any enterprise-critical application
Although this book was written for IT/IS professionals who will be tasked with post-implementation support of SAP R/3, the information in this book applies to any enterprise application.I am making this statement based on experience in launching and supporting a wireless telecommunications billing system, which is a completely different application than R/3.The point is most of the information contained in this book is solid and addresses service delivery and support for enterprise applications that work. Yes you have to leave someone behind to support SAP
Having been through two SAP implementations and supported the FI/CO modules for two years I found this book on the mark.Of particular interest is the presentation of a dynamic support group that continuouslyevaluates it's role through the life cycle of SAP.This is not a book thatone would give to your technical support group (not enought details). It isperfect for the application manager who must support the business processesof SAP.
