1-0 out of 5 stars Thousands of pages of bulletted lists. Useless.
Someone mentioned that it is a thousand page brochure. Right on the (wasted) money sir! I bought this book to gain some insight into SAP. But this book was a great disappointment. Words don't come to me to describe my disgust after wasting 75 dollars on this book. Just because SAP knowledge isn't easily available, people like me keep wasting our money on whatever is available in the market. I have learned my lesson, now I spend a couple of hours sitting in Barnes and Noble before making a decision to buy.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good reference book for SAP Implementation
This book's orientation is different from many other SAP books. The target segment for this book appears to be prospective SAP Consultants aspiring to be involved in implementation of projects, personnel in the Implementing organisation whose services will be used in implementation and end user. These days many people get trained/ acquire knowledge in SAP modules such as FI-CO, Logistics, SD, HRMS, etc by attending training courses in various Computer Training Institutes. Some even work as Trainee Consultants in some organisations. The real-life Implementation experience is all together different from what these people learn in Institutes. I feel that this book will be certainly helpful to fill such gap between real-life Implementation exp and learnings. At least, the book will enable the reader what to do when he is put in the project for the first time. Good points abt this book: 1. It gives good view of R/3 architecture 2. Giving ideas about possible Implementation issues that can arise 3. Inputs for preparing a good SAPper CV 4. Employment opportunities in SAP. Negative points: Jack of all, master of none! Inadequate coverage of various modules, which is understandable! 3-0 out of 5 stars Jack of all master of none..
This was my first book on SAP, it did help to get an overview nothing more. If you're planning to ge t specialized in ABAP or any Module then better forget this one. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars inconsistent and expensive
This book is, as someone above said very hastily written. It repeats itself, and has a tacky structure, despite its 138 pages (references included). With that in mind, the price is quite hefty. but there are lots of references, which is a plus. There must be better books or papers out there which introduces ontologies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Abstractions made practical
The Semantic Web and knowledge management converge in this book by Dieter Fensel. Ontologies, a term from philosophy referring to the types and classifications of things that exist, recently has become a term of art in the area of business technology design. This book systematically introduces the idea of ontologies and shows clearly and in detail how to apply this conceptual framework for enhanced Internet-based e-commerce and improved Intranet retrieval of corporate information and knowledge. The notion of ontologies first gained acceptance outside philosophical circles among those working on the Semantic Web as a means to enable agents to reason about Web content and provide sensible responses to unanticipated situations. Fensel provides a thorough survey of a range of ontology-based knowledge representation techniques in terms of their applicability to Web-based information exchange. While the first part of the book will be accessible to non-experts interest in the use of ontologies in e-commerce and knowledge management, the second part presents a more technical view on emerging Web standards.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good title, hasty content!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Introduction to Data Warehousing
My introduction to Data Warehousing was a water cooler discussion with a colleague just returned from a Data Warehousing workshop. The main topic of that discussion was the long development time required by data warehousing projects and how foolish it was start any project where the first "deliverable" to a business user was planned for three years hence.5-0 out of 5 stars NYC Consultant
What an asset to the Internet enabled Data Warehouse! As a consultant inthe field, someone offering a practical solution to the Data Warehousingenvironment provided valuable insight that I can offer my clients. WithInternet applications becoming more abundant and the volume of clickstreamdata reaching terabyte sizes, it is wonderful that the author offered asolution of distributing pieces of the data warehouse across differentnodes. The authors' step-by-step process, that includes a valuablediscussion on security, will assist in multiple environments but especiallyin the e-commerce arena.

R. A. Moellers approach in this book is extremely pactical. The authorgive usable examples on how to build a distributed data warehouse thatcould cross political boundardies. This is valuable to anyone buildinge-commerce applications that cross not only divisional boundardies butcorporate boundaries. The chapter on security was especially interestingand helpful for an e-commerce situation as well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Make it relevant
Hey Spike, if you're going to bash my book at least be man enough to give your name. The review also wasn't relevant as it attacked the company I work for and didn't say anything about the book. I would expect that review and this one to be deleted.

1-0 out of 5 stars Second rate author with third rate company
Give it up for a failing, tired, third rate company that is not going anywhere.Dan is not the best but he deserves better. The book is not too bad but I have seen better especially some of the newer books. He's getting better. At least Box is not writing from Q.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Insights
I enjoy the clarity and pace of the author's writing. The first part of the book lays a basic .NET foundation rich in explainations and diagrams. Part two emphasizes Enterprise component building techniques while part three integrates the concepts presented. I found the code samples to have many insights helpful in developing real-world business applications. I highly recommend this book for those moving beyond .NET basics and learning on their own. ... Micro$oft is famous for its ability to push out new development technologies. The reason behind this planned obsolesence is obvious, every time they come out with something new people will have to open their wallets to "keep up."5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a MUST HAVE classic

4-0 out of 5 stars It is indeed easy and well defined
Chris Brown has written a clear book on the Distributed Progrmming under the UNIX environment. When I started to look into this subject I faced so many barriers cause of lack of clarity and easiness of the other books andmaterials covering this subject. I have to admit also that I sometimesdecided to give the whole thing up. Fortunately, I came across this bookand it revived my hope. It is really a good book to start with and deservesof studying. Particular attention should be paid on Sockets. I wouldhowever suggest some matterials on the web which could be covered beforereading this book. Many examples have worked for me. The way he providesthe code examples (which are in C) is also comprehensive and anyone withexperience in C should not have problems with understanding them. I would, however, recommend other books (such as Stevens Unix Network Programmingand Advanced Programming under the UNIX environment as well as 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction, but not the deepest book.
This book has very nice explanations. Sometimes they almost seem too simple, but you can count on it not being over your head.It has lots of illustrations and is fairly easy to read.I think the author takes acomplex topic and explains it very, very well. It's also a lot shorterthan some of the books by W. Richard Stevens. Both this book and Stevens's"UNIX Network Programming" are too old to include POSIXsemaphores. If you get your hands on a book on UNIX distributedprogramming, look in the index for "sem_init" or posix to see ifit has the latest technology.I think everyone who programs in a unixenvironment should read this book to get a broad introduction to thistopic. If you have the time to read 2 books on this topic, I recommendthis one 1st to understand the concepts and another book with more examplesto get more ideas for coding.

4-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat outdated but comprehensive
This book is already somewhat outdated (six years) in relation to the cutting edge of fault tolerance research but it's a good and comprehensive introduction to the subject, and great to programmers looking for some understaning of fault tolerance, as commercial tools still have much to go before catching up with what is in this book. This field is getting more and more important as business systems are being moved to the internet and need to remain operarional 24/7. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Deals with Weblogic 7.0
This book is certainly good. Very detailed. And it is cool.
5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed
If you are new to WebLogic and/or are somewhat mystified by J2EE buy this book. It's a great resource and it is totally worth the money. It helps you get up and running quickly without getting too bogged down in all the BEA documentation. I found the overview of the J2EE technologies very enriching and the demonstration of WebLogic's value proposition and capabilities easy to digest. It also has some very helpful and practical suggestions for working out some thorny issues with WebLogic server such as class loaders, deployment etc. I'm constantly referring to it. The author has really done his homework and has done a valuable service to the WebLogic developer community by writing this book. When I had a question regarding some portions of the text I emailed the author and he responded within hours! He not only helped answer my question but also pointed me in the right direction where I could do additional research. It's nice to see someone stand by their work like that.

3-0 out of 5 stars Print version of online documentation

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth buying at all
This book is not worth buying at all. the author cleverly uses buzz words and selling tactics that try to make the book look good. I would shop for other SAP books. Dont waste your money on this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars ABAP Developers MUST READ THIS BOOK
Mr. Kasturi presents the ever confusing world of SAP EDI and ALE in a very simple manner. His penchant for using "honking big images" really helps out as he takes you through the configuration steps required to get ALE/EDI up and running on your SAP system.1-0 out of 5 stars Not worthwhile
I am an experienced SD consultant and work often with EDI.I have about 15 SAP books of which 2 are worthless:this book and the large 'Que' handbook. When you eliminate screenprints, abap code and dictionary descriptions dumped right out of SAP you are left with only about 150 pages of basic text.My colleague and I have half-jokingly considered trying to get McGraw Hill to buy this book back.On completely the other side of the coin - the book on the same topic by Arvind Nagpal is possibly the best SAP book I own.If this book is worth $5 (probably not) then the Nagpal book is worth $500.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Developers wanting to Master VC++ should buy this book
A brilliant book that every seasoned Windows C++ professional developer must read.1-0 out of 5 stars Trivial
The book is extremely trivial and doesn't give you in-depth & thoroughly coverage of any of its topics. A lot of material is monotonous & repetitive and the author doesn't provide comprehensive clarification of some distinctive and important terms...In general, this book is completely waste of time and money...

3-0 out of 5 stars At 1st glance great....looks are deceiving
When I 1st started reading and studying this book, I thought it was great. Then I realized that I thought this only because it covered areas I was not familiar with. When I got to areas I WAS familiar with, I realized that the explanations were hard to follow and perfunctory compared to other books I had read on the same subjects. The EXAM CRAM series is much more readable and in-depth.The coverage of IUnknown, IDispatch, ATL and COM in general are hard to follow and too advanced for beginners. The accompanied CD is missing files required to compile and run the examples. All in all, it still won't hurt to have it as a reference once you do learn the basics elsewhere. ...
