Miserably out-of-date, bad advice
This book is last updated in 2000.... yes, 2000.That is eternity on the web.It barely mentions Google and refers to many sites that are no longer in existance.Until the authors stop milking this version and write a new one, there are many better choices!

Written With Small Business Owners In Mind!
Derek Galon has written The Savvy Way to Successful Website Promotion for small business owners who are looking for some effective ways to better promote themselves online through their own Websites. This book offers plenty of concise information on how they can get this accomplished. All one needs to get started...
I saw all the comments here, but believe that this book shows all techniques available to a lone webmaster. All these techniques (as far as I know) are used by Web promotion services, charging big bucks. Thanks to the author I was able to do all that job myself, and now I really see the results. So, thumbs up! I don't care if there is a spelling error or not. Contents matters to me - and it is there. I would say that on top of all standard techniques described (yes, some of them are already known from various computer-related papers), there is several valuable and little known recommendations. I simply use them, and my site gets better. Isn't it enough? For me - it is just what I was looking for... Have problem getting visibility on-line? This may be your solution... It was mine. Very nice Q/A section
I am a manager (and still developing, however as little as possible) for a group of developers working with Oracle Apps 11i and a custom integrated web application for our sales and manufacturing department. I own both the Java and the J2EE version of this book and will be cross posting my comments to both of them. The comments below are both mine and senior members of my staff that have gone through both books.
A really bad book ...
The author appears to have no serious managerial experience: he seems to be a self-employed DBA. And it shows. Bigtime.
Useless advice
Sometimes I wonder if the author's advice is very biased towards their own knowledge of the technology and qualifications.I mean, come on, proper dress code???, education in the ivy league schools???

Great book.Covers all the areas of online marketing.Very current (1999) but overpriced. I did not purchase it as a textbook so I may not see all the value in the work. Great for beginners
This book is a great starter book on information security! I was wading though my copy grumbling "I know this, this, this...", when it occurred to me that I am not the intended audience. Key points in plain English
I really enjoyed this book. It was straight forward, to the point and provided some great best practices as solutions to some common security problems. A major problem with security is management. Too often the people making the important decisions do not understand the information that they are given. Great overview, a lot of food for thought
This is a really good introduction to security for non-technical and IT personnel. It covers a lot of subject matter including disaster planning, and writing a security policy. This book is an excellent resource for managers who need a clue. It is written better, more organized and more helpful than "Secrets and Lies" and other similar books. I recommend this book for anyone that needs a good overview of security. You may not be a CISSP after you finish it but you will understand what a CISSP is saying. ... Read more

Fascinating Story
This book really conveys the drama of the creation and building of Amazon.com by Jeff Bezos. Its really a biography of Amazon's founder, Jeff Bezos, through about 1999, ending before the .com crash.
Too soon to tell?
This book describes the early years of Amazon.com.It was published before Amazon began earning profits, so I guess that's why the author, Robert Spector, seems skeptical about the company.In the introduction, he likens Amazon to a 48-foot tall statue called Hammering Man which fell down one day.The assumption is that the Amazon behemoth is poised to fall with a thud.
A SHORT HISTORY OF AN E-COMMERCE GIANT
Amazon.com is probably the most cited online business of all times, and it will certainly be the case for the next ten years or so. Therefore, this little yellow paperback book is a must-read for those who do not know that the "e" at the beginning of e-commerce does not stand for "easy". Indeed, similar to its counterparts, Amazon.com was also born in a garage and then became an e-commerce giant in less than five years. This extraordinary story also proves that the industry clock-speed of e-commerce markets is really high, as demonstrated by Haim Mendelson in his novel book "Survival of the Smartest".

"Stuck" on Post-Its
IT says in the title this book is by "Mara Friedman and mara friedman" but do not be mislead, this is only one person so you get a biased point of view throughout the book. It's basically next to useless: you can't order things from the book, you can't start your own competing website. It doesn't even tell you how.
problems with navigating amazon.com?
ok so i've never read this book, but if you need a book to navigate amazon.com, then you should just give me your money instead.I mean, I know it's hard to type a word and press enter, and then press buy; i think the real difficulty of amazon.com is how the author managed to write XXX pages about navigating amazon.com.Having said that, it almost makes me want to buy this book, so I'm changing my 1 Star to 2.

Auction Anyone?
Nissanoff shows the reader how the future will most likely be from electronics to despoable goods. No longer will people just through out thier old products-rather create a new source of income. Not just for the individual but for the corp. world as well.

Drop off Shops: Great idea if managed properly
The book makes a strong case for eBay drop off stores. I currently have one and constantly need to watch what we sell. There is money to be made if the items sold are the right ones, otherwise, you can fail quickly. Overhead can eat you alive if you don't watch your business closely.Nissanoff makes a strong case and I agree, they are great for the masses who don't want to sell on eBay, or don't know how, or are too busy or just get tired of storing boxes and shipping material at home. Selling on EBay is not hard, just cumbersome and time consuming. Drop off stores are one solution that makes sense. The book has a few new ideas and makes for easy reading.

Interesting premise, could have organized better
While the main ideas in the book are not novel or ground-breaking, the author sustains the reader's interest through a very simple, "anecdote" based narration and some observations.The discussion focusing on the specific domains of a wide variety of mediums ranging from thrift shops to the auction houses of the world is very interesting. So is the discussion on future value and opportunity cost.The excellent premise(s) of the book gets lost in somewhat a rambling organization of thoughts and anecdotes. There is seemingly no real transition from chapter to chapter, making the reading somewhat annoying at times.Other than that, a good read. One wishes the author abstracted the examples (all or most of the examples are from his own or his friends) to more well-put observations.Anyone who has read any book on the impact of E-bay will easily relate to the topics, but not necessarily gain very new perspectives. ... A book of two halves
For the non-techie this is a good book to understand what drove Berners-Lee to invent the Web.The first half provides an interesting history leading up to the present day.The second half details Berners-Lees' thoughts about the present - day web and his vision for thefuture . I found this half less interesting and could have been improved by reducing the word count devoted to his philosophising on the world.If you have a passing interest in the Web,read the first half.Anything more than a passing interest then the whole book is worth a read.

A decent book to get you started on ASP.NET
As a .NET middletier developer who has never ventured much into ASP.NET GUI development, I found this book to be pretty informative to get started on 'How-to' do many things...all compiled into one single place.e.g. to get a page up and running with a bunch of useful controls on it instead of wading through pages and pages of documentation or descriptions given in other books.
Not worth the money.
This book has many many examples. However, they are not documented very well. Most all of them are useless also. I'd pay $5 to $10 MAX! Save your money and buy a good book from the Microsoft Press.

Book for the novices
This book is definately for the novice crowd.I was expecting some more advanced concepts or examples, but found very basic info.I didn't learn a single new thing about .NET by using this book, and especially when you compare it to other books.

I've been using eBay since 1999 as both a buyer and a seller.I was amazed at the amount of things I learned from this book.The policies at both eBay and PayPal have been updated significantly over time, and I'm sure like many other people, I was not aware of many of the changes.From tips on insurance and shipping to information on how to block and cancel bids, this book is valuable to any eBay seller.It also provides tons of information for buyers and sellers on how to avoid common scams associated with eBay.For example, I didn't realize that some people would actually switch a new item for an old and try to claim a return. I also didn't realize that eBay flat-out warns against using Western Union - and that even money orders are not secure in an age of easy counterfeiting.

Full of practical advice for starting an eBay consignment business. Highly recommended.

Great mid-level eBay Book!!
Mr. Mansfield wastes no time getting to the nuts and bolts of starting an eBay business. You won't get a lot of help starting your first eBay account here!! This is good because a lot of people are graduating from cleaning out their closets and looking for a steady income from eBay. He systematically goes through the entire process from the setup of your business to making a business plan and he spends a good deal of time on the numbers (which is the first book I've read that actually discussed numbers.) This was very helpful in focusing my energy in starting a new eBay business. Check out how I'm doing at lemonheadsattic.com. An excellent XQuery starter book and reference
This book is a compact and thorough guide to XQuery. The Jonathan Robie tutorial in the beginning of the book is itself worth the overall price of the book.

Nice coverage of XQuery/XPath
A very useful explanation of XQuery and how to use it to analyse XML data. The book shows how this can be done with or without a supporting XML Schema or DTD that describes the XML. The authors explain why this goes beyond a Google-type search. The latter does not (at least currently) know or use any structural information about data, primarily because it scans all types of mostly unstructured data. Excellent survey of a complex topic by some of the designers

Too general
There was not enough information as far as I was concerned. I think there are other books out there that are more specific and contain far more information.

Excellent resource for those interested in medical billing.
I read Rick Benzel's first edition years ago and found it to be highly informative.His second edition is clearly researched and reflects the changes in the healthcare industry.I would recommend this book as aprerequisite for anyone contemplating self employment in this field. Hecovers all areas and gives a comprehensive look at the healthcare servicebusiness. As a medical billing service owner and consultant for 18 plusyears, I feel qualified to give this book two thumbs up!!
