As someone whom is very actively involved in the Internet and hosting industry, I have experienced first hand the difficulty in the Hosting Provider selection process, either as a consultant to clients or as an observer to an organization's dilemma. This book should prove to be a valuable resource for enterprises hoping to understand and navigate this complex industry and as well as prepare them for the some of the changes it is currently undergoing.5-0 out of 5 stars For Customers and Providers
Although the book's description states that it is intended for web hosting customers I found it to be invaluable for both customers and providers.Read more

A very well organized and useful reference text regarding encryption nadcertificates. I was pleased at the singling out of PG and its differencesversus other X509 standards.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best I've seen
Highly recommended - This is still the best intro book I've seen on PKI.Precisely and clearly written. Can't wait for the second edition, though, as this edition is getting a bit dated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greak Book for a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Overview
This book is great at understanding the major components of a Public KeyInfrastructure and the surrounding issues. You certainly would not walkaway being able to set up a PKI, but you would be able to discuss itintelligently. If you are trying to come up to speed on PKI, this is thebook for you.The subject is too big to cover everything in one book; so,I would also recommend picking up some more books that look at securityissues specifically. One recommendation is E-Commerce Security by Ghosh. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Needs revision!
This book as an intro is outdated, needs a new edition. Many references are gone, websites no longer exist, many case studies are now subscriptions and require a credit card for access, ahhh the free internet is gone, if used for instructional purposes may need a disclaimer on objectionable content.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative, helpful, written well, a must for your collection on CMS
This book is a required textbook for my online graduate publishing course at Pace University. I have enjoyed the book and the wealth of information it provides. It is informative and written well for anyone to understand. The examples and diagrams are terrific as well as the snippets from people in the business industry using CMS.At the end of my course in May 2006, this book will definitely be on my bookshelf and used on the job. I highly recommond this book for anyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a worthwhile purchase
Good book. It's clear, very well organized and planned book. It's a complete guide and knowledge repository for those who want to start understanding the Content Management paradigm and to the experienced ones who want to improve their skills as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars An encyclopedic treatise on Content Management.
Even the smallest Web site requires some form of content management. File system directories and informal sharing across publications are sufficient for small sites. But as the size and level of activities grow, informal content management begins to cost too much and take too long. At that point, a Content Management System may become necessary to help organize and automate the process. The decision to automate is normally based on 4 criteria: content size, change frequency, number and diversity of contributors and, the number of publications (channels). A Web Publishing project where content is distributed over more than 1000 pages will likely requires an automated Content Management System (CMS). The process of implementing a CMS is a major project in itself. So, depending on your work environment you may not need to concern yourself with a CMS at this point. Should the need exist, then this book will provide all the required information and more. It is meant for people tasked with designing and implementing CMS, and some filtering will need to be done by the reader interested in only specific aspects of Content Management. A well structured and easy to read work of encyclopedic proportion. This book is best kept as a reference and used when needed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book
Best book I have read about eBay. Very comprehensive, detailed and well written. Hard work went into producing this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars A good introduction, but probably due for an update
This is a great starter book for anyone curious about buying or selling on eBay. My only issue is that the book could probably use a refreshing. eBay is a very dynamic property and this book was probably written at least a year ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars SELL AMERICAN!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool, very cool book....
Loved the tips on sniping...although, many buyers can't stand people who do that.I won a t.v./dvd combo for $30. no shipping because it is in my area and I can pick it up.Also, another tv/dvd/vcr combo toshiba 24", that I sniped for $197.I paid no shipping because this one I was close enough to pick up, too.I saw this last tv set for over $300 buck in BestBuy...is that a deal or what.I love eBay.And I know for a fact those other tv's are worth way over $30 bucks, as well.I already have people in my local area who agreed to pay me $85 dollars for it and I haven't even picked it up, yet.$55 dollar profit without doing much...not bad.I love sniping...it's fun!
4-0 out of 5 stars Good for volume sellers
One of my favorite activities in my spare time is buying and selling on eBay.It has quickly become the world's largest virtual mall of just about everything you can possibly think of.When I received this book I was eager to learn some of the "tricks of the trade" and found a lot of useful material, albeit some of it is geared towards power sellers and not the average user.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best eBay books
This book is great. It contains a wealth of information that is not found in other books. It is probably not the best book to read first if you are just starting out, because it can make eBay seem a bit overwhelming. This book is worth buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars For C++ developers
Very good book, explains real-worlds issues one faces when developing COM components. 5-0 out of 5 stars Real-world COM+ solutions laid bare
An excellent book. The early chapters reveal solid solutions to oft-encountered COM problems - error handling, string manipulation, smart pointers, multiple-reader single-writer locks, streaming and marshal-by-value etc. The later chapters concentrate mainly on design techniques for building scalable applications. In my (humble) opinion, chapter 13: The MTS Revolution is worth the price of the book alone. This chapter describes the evolution of technologies for building scalable systems, introduces the single-concurrent-client model and explains how to write scalable systems keeping code maintainable and in the general case, lock-free. All would-be COM+/MTS developers should read this chapter! I've read both this and Tim Ewald's Transactional COM+ - both excellent books and compliment each other very well. In my opinion, Brown's chapter 13 is far superior to Ewald's chapter 1. Both attempt to acheive the same thing, coaxing the regular developer into the COM+ mindset, but Brown's offers logical facts and reasoning as opposed to Ewald's non-real-world convoluted IPerson examples.

5-0 out of 5 stars Required reading for COM+ developers
This is an excellent book; a little pricey, but worth the money if you are serious about COM+.And I mean serious! This is not a beginners book, for that I would recommend "Inside COM+ Base Services" by the same publisher. This book is a little too biased towards MS development environments. For example they compare VC++, VB, and VJ++ and casually mention there are "other capable environments".Hmm.Then again, this is a Microsoft press book, and COM+ is a Microsoft technology, so its to be expected.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Collaboration with Appropriate Velocity
The hybrid title obviously fuses two very important words: "fast" and "alliance." It is Segil's assertion (and I totally agree) that "The e-commerce business world has turned many old rules on their heads....You have to be ahead of the [other] players in this game. FastAlliances can be the tool -- the approach that helps you reinvent a small part of your organizational structure if you are a traditional (not new Internet) company. If you are a new Internet company, the challenge will be to apply some level of discipline while maintaining the velocity you have already created." So the emphasis for all organizations (regardless of size or nature, be it a "traditional" or "new Internet" organization) must be on forging and sustaining appropriate strategic alliances while conducting business at a high rate of speed. How? Segil offers a "unique model" which suggests a seven-step approach:3-0 out of 5 stars Written In 60 Days, and Reader Suffers Pain

3-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Organized, Examples Don't Work
I rarely criticize a text book, but for this one I must make an exception. My biggest complaint is that the examples are full of errors and the procedures are incomplete - leaving out critical steps to make the procedures work. For someone trying to learn Websphere from scratch, this poses an insurmountable obstacle to learning this topic. This indicates to me a rush job putting this book to press and failure to proofread the textbook and failure to test the examples.3-0 out of 5 stars Not enough detail
This book is good at covering a wide range of details, but I wouldn't recommend it for an in-depth knowledge of Websphere, especially if you're a developer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Little bit of everything
I had a very frustrating experience with this book. All I wanted to do was to try install a simple web application with a welcome page and a servlet just to get a feel. But i could not do it easily. The topic of Servlets and JSP is split across many sections with each chapter of 4-5 pages. I would have loved it if all of them had been clubbed together so I could atleast say that I know now everything on servlets. The book has over 40 chapters and tries to cover everything that IBM has to offer. Not for someone wishing to master the WebSphere Application Server. No way. I have used the WebLogic bible before and it was great. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Still Worthwhile
I realize a newer version of BizTalk is available and that the underlying technology has changed significantly (most notably the change in orchestration languages). However, I suspect there are many of you still out there who, like myself, must continue to work with older BizTalk implementations.
1-0 out of 5 stars Very frustrating book to read
I started witht his book witha lot of interest. But reading this was really a frustrating thing. It certainly failed in putting pieces together. There is more unnecessary talk in this book than useful content. If you are serious about learning BizTalk, This is not the book for you. Go somewhere else.

3-0 out of 5 stars A touch too descriptive

3-0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read
I enjoyed reading this immensely. The story is fascinating and a real page-turner. However, after deliberating the situation, reading additional material etc., I came to realise that this is a biased view of the events and people of ValueAmerica. The success of a company like ValueAmerica involves bringing together the right people at the right time. This didn't happen at ValueAmerica. No single person can be blamed. Kuo is just as "guilty" as any of the other executives for the failure of ValueAmerica and his "objective" view is a little too objective for someone involved in running the business -- almost disassociated from it. For someone like Kuo, it was simply another company he could move on from. For Winn, it was his life. I feel sorry for all of those who invested time, energy and money in this venture. Initially, a fantastic and enjoyable read. Ultimately, disappointing and sad.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly educationaly
I found the book very useful for any budding entrepeneur. One can learn a lot from mistakes from Mr. Winn . Also one gets good insight into how these top company execs think and operate ( i.e not as well as you would imagine! ) I have the audiobook and the narration by Kuo is excellent, very real and humorous.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite books!
If you're in business development....

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a developers methodology book, not a programming "how-to".
This book is a 5-star book in its methodology and clever software development. If you are looking for an "how-to" book in a shooping cart this book is way over your head, and will have a massive learning curve. The book is made to be read from cover to cover to fully getthe value of it (if you skip the chapter on CMP,or example, you are just wasting yout time after). The first cool thing about it, is the clever CMP programming methodology for .NET. If you are coming from the Java world of Beans you will clearly not be impressed with it, but for .NET users this is a big thing), the second cool thing is the interesting use of reflections within the CMP to build self discovering object. I would say this is the first time I see a practical example of use of reflection at this level in many years of developing Web applications.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not much help and support for installation
The book doesn't provide much help even to install its own sample code. First, you have to look around very hard to find the source code to download (it is no longer in wrox.com). Second, the database is for restore to SQL Server 2000 only. It doesn't provide any kind of script file that I can make little modify to install it to a SQL Server 7 or MSDE 2000. You will be stuck if you don't have SQL Server 2000 installed. Third, the source code installation is not a install and run, I have to do some change to be able to opetn the solution.

3-0 out of 5 stars Simply Documentation for a Sample E-Commerce Site
This book provides extensive documentation for a sample e-commerce Web site, but not much in the way of instruction. It is more of a "Look, here's how I did it"-book than a "Look, here's how you do it"-book.If you're a beginner, this book will go WAY over your head.It was written for those already well-versed in VS.NET/C#/ASP.NET and are looking for some guidance to put their skills to use in creating an online store. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Writing Effective E-Policies Is a Team Effort
Does your company or organization have a policy that covers writing style in electronic communications? Does your company or organization have cyberinsurance to cover losses attributed to errors or employee misbehavior using your e-mail systems? Does your company or organization offer netiquette training for employees and managers? These are topics that many do not think of but should and that are covered in detail in The ePolicy Handbook: Designing and Implementing Effective E-Mail, Internet and Software Policies by Nancy Flynn (256 pages ; The American Management Association, 2001). Though this book is a few years old, it is worthwhile for Human Resource managers and anyone else involved in the development of ePolicies for their company organization.
