4-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginner....Not for advanced
This book is truely for beginners who have no clue of signal Integrity. He starts this book with stuff like Ohm's law and how capacitors and inductors work which most people learn in high school.
5-0 out of 5 stars Probably the most readable book you'll find on this
Brook's book is exceptional in the clarity of the writing, esp. in explaining key concepts that most engineers are fuzzy on.This book is great at giving engineers an intuitive feel for basic electromagnetics and how it relates to signal integrity and emi.4-0 out of 5 stars A chasm has been bridged...
As an educator, lecturer and practicing designer I am given many books to read and make comment on. I find very few books that are able to bridge the chasm between the needs of a beginner learning about signal integrity and the needs of a professional desperate to solve design problems. This book is an excellent primer and reference for understanding the interrelationship between the board layout and the signal integrity problem. This book details design solutions to classic signal integrity problems and educates the novice in understanding the reasoning behind the solutions. There is a lot of nonsense being written about signal integrity and few people have the resources to filter out the chaff from hay. This book proves every principle presented with tested board layouts, demonstrated engineering principles, or documented laboratory results. Some people can see the world in formulas and some see the world pictorially. This book is rich in both forms of expressionism and its presentation will not exasperate the PCB designer who sees the world visually, or frustrate the engineer seeking equations for design representation. This book has been added to the required reading list for our PCB layout designers and product development engineering teams. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible book
This book looks perfect on paper. The subject matter is important, it talks about many practical concepts, the cover is cute, etc. But trying to read this book I was very disappointed. The author has just cut and pasted some well-known ideas but doesn't explain anything clearly. Despite knowing the subject I found it painful to follow.I wanted to throw the book away after reading a few sections, but I kept telling myself "it can't be that bad, the material is fine, let me give it another chance". But the book is that bad! It is no excuse that this is a "handbook". There are many books that are not textbooks that do a great job explaining things.I feel sorry for anybody who is trying to learn by reading this book. If you are a beginner read Howard Johnson's classic "Black Magic" book. If you are more advanced read Clayton Paul or books on Microwave design. 4-0 out of 5 stars OK, but missing something
So far it has been useful in my designs. They seem to be better and I am sure the book has helped with certification. It has some very useful information.Unfortunatly, it does not have much supporting information or theoretical proofs.Perhaps this helps the non-math oriented user, but I can't imagine why a non-math oriented user would need such a book or what such a person would be doing designing for EMC.As an engineer, I don't take things on face value without understanding of why.The lack of general theory also makes it difficult to extend the information provided to areas not covered in the book.In short, I'd like to know a bit more about why.

4-0 out of 5 stars good for a lot of EMC/EMI pains
I got this book because the boss said to find something to help resolve the FCC/CE and other world EMI/EMC compliance issues we have, and it was instantly used and had the answers we needed.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful EMC book
This book makes learning EMC as easy as counting one to three. Very logical, easy to understand, and makes you to think how EMC can be fun and challenging. A very good reference book, easpcially if you love to see things simplified mathimatically.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good book
I consider that this book is avery good start point to introduce oneself into the EMC topic. Clear and pedagogic with a lot of numerical examples and well chosen exercises.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book - Read it all.
Starting first with the negatives, of which they are four.First, do not be fooled by the title word "introduction."This is NOT a book for beginners, but rather senior engineers. If you are new to EMC this is not the book for you.Second, information relative to FCC/CE requirements is dated. Also, some tests relative to CE compliance are not covered.Third, though there are many diagrams, there are almost no pictures. In many cases I found a picture, as opposed to a diagram would have been far more explanatory.Lastly (though it does not bother me in the least, but I thought you would like to know), the book has numerous typos through out its 752 pages.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, practical handbook
This is a great, practical guide to EMI testing and troubleshooting.Includes basic fixes, utility of those fixes to resolve observed issue(s), and estimates regarding the improvement those fixes might provide. It also includes a section on in-house, "confidence" testing (without shelling out for test chamber and all of the expensive test equipment... though you'll still need some)
5-0 out of 5 stars Good overall book
This book is by no means the definitive guide to EMC.The advance reader seeking such a book should consult Clayton's R. Paul book (Intro {yea right} to EMC).Nonetheless, for what it is, it is outstanding. The author covers in a general and simplified format a wide array of topics. What I most liked about the book was that the author address installations and other non-PCB related EMI issues.Basically, issues not covered by similar books that have a tendency to address only the PCB and its related IO. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Superb and Outstanding
This is one of the graetest book on board design and its signal integrity. I purchased this book and could not put it down until I read it cover to cover. Superb explanation starting from general introduction, nature of resistance, capatitance and inductance effect on the board, Excellent explanation of differential signalling skin effect and optimizing on board decaps. What is outstanding in this book is that author gives fantastic references for further study. Chapter 10 is master piece describing modeling of decaps on the board and many manymore. Combine the material of this book with "Brain Young" book of " Digital Signal Integrity" you got it all. Barvoo...for this magnificent work. As an ASIC designer and signal integroty specialist, this book has helped me a lot. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars reduce your EMI
If you are a circuit designer building a commercial product, then it is necessary to minimise the RF emissions. But many texts on circuitry gloss over the details of how to do this. Perhaps considered too uninteresting.
3-0 out of 5 stars Misleading
This book is well oganized and easy to use, but the information is often incorrect. We have found it to cause more problems than solve. Paul Clayton's book come much more highly recommended.

I live in Japan and have been working on development of semiconductor process technology for ten years. First, I bought the Dr. Grove in Japanese edition when graduate student ,and have been making the best of it , which made me again buy this English edition through amazon.com.(The English edition is not available in Japan)

4-0 out of 5 stars It's good for you who are interested in ESD..
Recently, I studied the CMOS layout. And I attended at the project about that. I fel the need to know the ESD phenomeon. At that time, I found this book. I understood this phenomenon and the ways to protect it easily. Because the book provided many graphs and photos and it treated the phenomenon in depth relatively. But this book didn't deal with the antenna diode issues. The importance of the antenna diode issues increases. So I hope that the authers will publish new edition.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Starting Point for Building a Foundation
Though 20 years old, or "lacking modern ... issues" as the previous reviewer said, this book presents the fundamental material of semiconductor device modeling in a logical and organized way.Though recent developments are not covered in this book, the fundamentals of how to discretize a PDE (i.e., poisson eqn, continuity eqs, etc) using finite difference methods, etc., don't change, and this book is a good starter for learning that.If you want to understand the concepts behind device simulators like DESSIS, MEDICI, PISCES, etc., this is a good place to start.3-0 out of 5 stars Great starter for those into device modeling
I have often referenced this book for due to the nature of my graduate research. It is a good introduction to the finer points of semiconductor device modeling.(The stuff not really emphasized at the undergraduate level)However, this book is lacking with respect to many modern device structures and issues.(e. g. power transistors, HEMT's, III-V compound information)I still recommend it as reference material. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent work on filtering and statistical signal processing
This is an excellent book. I often see it referenced, in the old edition from Prentice Hall, in IEEE papers written by "old important guys" (and gals of course) indicating that it carries some weight amongst people in the know.
5-0 out of 5 stars Solid Mathematical Analysis
Originally published in 1979, this is a graduate level text book on signal processing. Filtering out the unwanted data is a major part of signal processing. A returning radar image, for instance, contains an awful lot of data, while all you really want is the blip that identifies where the airplane is in the sky. The remaining static has to be filtered out.

4-0 out of 5 stars An easy read and great resource for an EE
This book explained EMI control and design for EMC in a clear manor. I had only one complaint, there are a lot of graphs that appear to have been in color originally. The book is not printed in color, so it is difficult to distinguish data traces on these graphs. I would still highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended for PCB Designers
"PCB Design for Real-World EMI Control" is a great book on techniques to reduce EMI problems in your designs. The book has a good layout with each chapter building on the last.Techniques are discussed in detail with very little math.Overall, the book is easy to follow for the beginning designer and a good reference for the experienced designer.I recommend this book to anyone involved in PCB design.

4-0 out of 5 stars detailed descriptions
Electronic products, or more broadly any product with electronic parts, need to reduce their EM interference to some minimum amount. Where this depends on the type of product and the country in which it will be sold. A problem is that in university electrical engineering courses, controlling EMI is typically only briefly taught.

2-0 out of 5 stars ...Good and bad...
The good:This book covers many diverse aspects of pulsed power technology, including insulation, switching, pulse generators, and diagnostics. Also, it is a decent quick-reference for formulas and material parameters (e.g., bulk breakdown strength of materials). Finally, it's a lot cheaper/easier to find than the book by Mesyats, the MIT Radiation Lab report Vol. 5, and "J.C. 5-0 out of 5 stars Electricity, Not Electronics
Electricity. 1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible Stay Clear
This book is written for someone with a 6th grade education and no more. It talks about magamps for pete's sake. It dosen't even broach the subject of transistors. NO TRANSISTOR THEORY!! What in sakes is electronics if not transistors! The stupid objectives at the beginning of each chapter, and the even worst review problems at the end of each chapter are simply a waste of pages. I am a former nuke electrician from the navy and a current IC Fabrication Technician in the semiconductor industry. I purchased the book to just stay up on my studies, but this book fell way short. My fiancee's daughter has learned almost everything that is covered in this book, and she is only in the 7th grade. Be forewarned, a bad book indeed.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent book for beginners in electricity.
This book is written in the standard format for a classroom environment, which makes it very easy to follow and find previously read topics you may have forgotten. However, some sections would be easier to learn with theaid of a teacher; although, it is still possible to learn the materialwithout one. This book covers a wide range of topics for electricity, butnot many applications of it. Over all, this book provides you with a strongfoundation in the electrical field. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre book; needs major overhaul
Assuming you have already read the previous (rather low) reviews on here, my own review may seem like overkill, but I feel that I must express just how bad Neamen's book is at explaining the material.
1-0 out of 5 stars Awful
Worst book I have come across in my college career. My only D EVER is from a professor that tried to follow this book. Many of his printed solutions to the problems in this book are vague with "Trial and Error" that yield no reasoning to how the problems should be solved.
