1-0 out of 5 stars Do not bother
This book is a joke. It is poorly written, the grammar is crazy and wrong, and it dwells too much on events that are not important (click next, and click next, then click ok, and then next...). You would be well-advised to read another book, as well as BOL, before attempting 70-228.
4-0 out of 5 stars passed first ime.... but....
I just passed 70-228 first time using just this book and BOL as guides. I found the first half of this book a waste of time.Way too much attention to how-to examples of performing steps in the GUI (Click this, click next, click OK).The second half, however, was much more useful. One thing though. It is useful in that it offers a failry concise, objective by objective, summary of what you will need to know for the exam and then points to BOL for the actual information. It is short on providing information in and of itself.
1-0 out of 5 stars A complete waste of time and money!
Luckily I am already an Oracle DBA or I would not have been able to make real-world sense of the material presented in this book. In my opinion, it is pretty much worthless if you are preparing for the 70-228 exam or if you are wanting to work with SQL Server on the job. However, it is a great doorstopper/paperweight (which is why it is worth one star). Yes, I have passed the 70-228 exam, but I can guarantee you my passing had absolutely nothing to do with this book! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A well written technical guide
I purchased this book for a class on PC Maintenance. It is a well written, articlulate book and assumes NO prior knowledge on the part of the reader regarding PC hardware. It covers both the older and newer (ex SATA) technologies. The CD's are OK, but they are encoded in Quick Time format as opposed to DVD. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for CCNP and Labs
Not only am I a Cisco Networking Academy Instructor, I am one of the official reviewers as listed inside this book.I spent almost a year working with the authors to make sure this book was error free, and full of realistic lab exercises. My students have used this book successfully for over 4 years.
5-0 out of 5 stars Practically useful, well explained details (Cisco Press pls respond)
The guides were a great learning experience to me with a lot of practically useful well explained details. The following comment I sent a few times to Cisco Press - they invite you to do so at the beginning of the book - to which I never ever got a reply which is a bit disappointing for a publisher of such great books. Users who study these books may check if my findings are right.;-)

5-0 out of 5 stars All what you need...
I got this book with an incomplete prior knowledge about project management. I used to know about some parts of planning, execting and controlling stages. However, I had no previous knowledge about initiation and closing. My advice to you is that this is all what you need to pass the test. It has all of the information. The book contains sufficient descriptions about the Project+ process groups without unnecessary extra details. It is easy to read and is very concise in explaining the terms and has plenty of real-lify examples. Each chapeter has 20 MCQ at the end of it. The book has two practice tests.

5-0 out of 5 stars As good as you can get for a dry subject
This is one of the better study aids, but as with all study aids it is boring to read.It may just be me, but I hate to read anything like this, but I have to keep my certs. It is up to date with the latest verion of the test and very informative. It will make a great companion to use along side the bigger complete CCNA test prep books and also to use in the field when you need to remember those odd commands.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for CCNA
it is an excellent book for your preparation for the CCNA.it is also very useful for the memorizing the commands that most used in the router confiruation in your job.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Resource
This is a good resource to study with for the CCNA.It contains almost all of the commands that should be known for the test, and then some. All I can say is watch out for $9.00 shipping charges if you buy used! Don't "one click shop" it as you will agree to these shipping charges without seeing them like I did. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have reference book
This book is a "must-have" resource for anyone who has an interest in testing and assessment.I am a psychometrican, and it is a widely used resource among our psychometrics staff, as well as, with our measurement consultants and assessment specialists. It provides a comprehensive background into test reliability and validity. In addition, it presents many helpful tools for constructing all types of items. The checklists are especially beneficial, as well as, the chapter on interpreting score reports.Because the book is so comprehensive, it may best be used as guidebook and/ or reference book, rather than a book that one would read from cover to cover in the hopes to digest it all.I cannot say how many times I have referred back to this book in both my educational and professional life.I believe that it is written on a level that is relatively easy to follow, and the numerous examples that he provides help to illustrate the material. It is the most comprehensive book of it's kind in the field of educational assessment. I am also a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, and many students that I worked with during my doctoral study there also hold an opinion similar to mine. If the book is used in the way that it is intended to be used, it will probably be one of the most used reference books in your educational assessment library.

1-0 out of 5 stars UGH! Sorry, but one of the worst textbooks...
I really hate to write detrimental things about books I do not like, but this is a required book in some class at my University...and frankly, I don't know why. To be honest, I think part of it was the way the book wasused in the classroom, and how the professors made us jump from one topicto another without gaining a full understanding of the first one! Just incase someone thinks I am just a student who could not hack the topic, my BSand MS are in Neuroscience, and I took statistics twice before this...oncein neurostatistics and once in epidemiology. Try and read some of thejournals in Neuroscience some time...Believe me they are much worse, orshould be much worse then a social science document such as this.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong answers on test
I would have rate this one ZERO stars, but there is no selection for that, so it gets ONE star,
2-0 out of 5 stars OUTDATED QUESTIONS!!!
Plain and simple, some of the question are outdated. I hate having to go through unneccessary questions to study for this exam. It's bad enough that there is a ton of material that I need to know.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful but has problems
I used this along with Wendell Odom's CCNA Cert Library (for exam 640-801) and Boson's Netsim to pass the CCNA exam on the first try. This is worth the money as a useful tool to help you drill, but is a little bit dated (lots of questions about Cisco 1950 switches which are no longer on the exam) and is annoyingly produced - not all the tear-out flash card or study pages are actually perforated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book for the PMP Exam
I received a copy of this book when I took Tony's prep class. This book and the related material enabled me to pass the PMP on my first try.The PMP simulation test CD was a great tool to test your knowledge and provide you the chance to experience going through 200 questions within four hours. This book provides details that are not in the PMBOK.I.E detailed Earned Value exercises, backward/forward exercises and PTA just to mention a few. This book combined with the other material associated with the prep class was all I needed to successfully pass the exam.Plus, the study and test taking methodology was very helpful. The PMP exam is a difficult test and when I encountered the situational questions I used the methodology stated in the book to evaluate the question and select what I considered to be the correct answer.Guess it worked because I passed.I recommend Tony's book but suggest you purchase his complete package if you do not attend the prep class.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding PMP Prep Tool
This book was provided to me with a Boot Camp Course that I took in preparation for my PMP test. What I liked most about this book, was the test/answer section at the end of each chapter. In addition, there is a CD based test that one can take in preparation for the real PMP test. I found the questions in the CD based test, prepared me very well for the actual PMP test. Although the questions were not the same on the PMP test, the logic that I was able to gain from the prep test, allowed me to past the PMP test on the first try. I highly recommend this book and the Crosswinds flash cards which can be purchased separately.

5-0 out of 5 stars Total Customer Care
I have just returned from Crosswind PM, Inc.'s PMP Exam Preparation Boot Camp in Addision, TX.Mr. Tony Johnson is the president and lead trainer for Crosswind PM, Inc.Tony's training style is friendly, good-natured, professional and fair.He and Crosswind endorse a total customer care approach to his seminar trainings. This approach includes the highest quality materials and in-person instruction, as well as an exit interview and follow-up that focuses on giving students straight-forward advice about when they should take the exam, and what strategy they should use to prepare for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource on a little understood subject.
CiscoPress's "Cisco LAN Switching" by Clark and Hamilton is a book I have mixed feelings on.For years, this book has been considered the "Bible" or the "Source" for LAN switching topologies. But I feel if I am going against the grain when I write that I have never put this book on the same altar as Doyle's Routing TCP/IP books or some others. It is an odd feeling to be the lone voice out.
4-0 out of 5 stars Needs updating
This book provides great information on the core switching concepts. The Spanning tree section is excellent.Unfortunately the text's age is starting to show. Most of the examples are in CatOS.

4-0 out of 5 stars Practical, useful guide to issues in Cisco switching
Cisco LAN Switching by Kennedy Clark and Kevin Hamilton is considered a definitive guide to Cisco switching - and rightly so. The book contains an exhaustive presentation on all aspects of switching - from the basics of switching technologies, to the protocols and algorithms used in campus switching, to real-world designs of campus switching environments. All this with an added bonus of tidbits of humor thrown into the discussion of serious, no-nonsense topics!

3-0 out of 5 stars Might as well buy the RHCE book by jang (4th edition)
I bought the RHCE book (jang 4th edition) and used it to study for the RHCE exam. Because the exam encompasses both the RHCT abd RHCE exam, i thought i could use the RHCT book as a way to refine skills geared strictly towards just the RHCT portion of the exam. This book really is just a subset (cut and paste) of the RHCE book from jang, with a very few changes. You are better off just getting the RHCE book by jang and using it to study for both the RHCT and RHCE. The skills you learn, although not super in depth, will force you to learn or relearn key concepts that will potentially be on the exam.

The rise of Red Hat has been marvelous to watch.Starting with a 'free' operating system, they have produced an integrated software system that rivals the big kid on the block. With this kind of success, comes more success. Now you see job ads for people who know Red Hat. And with this comes certifications. How do you prove that you've even typed 'ls' into your system.

3-0 out of 5 stars It would be a MUCH better book with a different title
While this work may be "The Official Guide" it is a long way from complete or authoratative. It is much more of an overview than a guide. It is an excleent overview or enhancements book for readers with a technical background.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great TECHNICAL review of DB2 UDB V8
This is a great book for what I do. I needed to keep on top of the new features in DB2 -- though for the wrong reasons (we are an Oracle business partner), I def'ly got to see all the new features with deep technical explanations and even examples; pretty neat stuff from IBM I must say. I looked at the What's New Guide that was referenced in other comments before buying this book, hoping to save a buck. Too bad they don't have a review forum for that book, horrible. All marketing fluff. Don't bother trying to find it -- it will only make you mad. Buy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and complete.
Not only does this kit provide excellent study material, but it will alsoprove to be an invaluable reference afterward. For people (like me) whocannot afford the instructor-led courses, this kit provides the necessarytraining to not only pass the exams, but also to be a good networkengineer. Use one of the study guides just before the exam, but use thiskit to gain a thorough understanding of the material first.

1-0 out of 5 stars Simply badly designed for exams
I believe that the writers made some bad choices when they first began to write this book. First of all, unlike most other certification books the exam goals are not together in one section. Instead there are whole chapters for queries, indexes, views, etc with all of the information about each topic in that chapter. So if you wanted to read about 'query optimization' you would have to read the sections within that chapter about query optimation from the queries chapter, from the index chapter, some from the views chapter, etc. So if you want to review a specific topic that you are not as good at you will be doing a lot of page flipping.
4-0 out of 5 stars This Won't Prepare You For 70-229 But a Good Starting Point.
This book is a very easy read, explains concepts clearly, but lacks the kind of detail necessary for passing the 70-229 exam, especially if you are taking this as an elective on the developer track. It will get you through most of what you need to know at 10,000 feet, but it will not take you to a passing score. It taught me things I had never used and for that it is well worth the time investment. I also love the fact that you can install the "e-book" on a laptop and a desktop at home and never carry the hard cover book around.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book -weak in areas
I bought this book for my Solaris 10 Upgrade exam -result, passing score! However unless you are an experienced SA,I would recommend not using this book as your sole study guide. There are a few technical inaccuracies in addition the material fails to delve deeply enough into certain key exam areas such as Sol on X86. Post-exam, I view it as a nice Sol 10 reference to keep around.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but not perfect
A well written book, gives you almost the information you need to pass the certification exams and also some additional information. Unfortunately it still lack a few information that SUN ask in some questions. I think this is a good book and reference, but you need to already know Solaris and SUN platforms or you'll find this book a bit difficult.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's really a nice book!
It's a good book, it contains all details about Solaris 10..& repeating Solaris '10'..as there're many books claiming it's subject is Solaris 10 but in fact they don't cover any of Solaris 10 new topics..this book does.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best among the LPIC prep books
I just passed LPIC 101 with a good score thanks to this book. It follows the LPIC objectives very closely. Since the publication of the book the objectives were updated at the end of last year, so you might have to read upon those changed ones.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Linux administration overview as well as study guide
I picked this book up to use as a study guide for taking the LPIC-1 102 exam.(I passed, by the way.)This book was good read that kept my interest and proved a good overview to Linux system administration as well as a LPIC-1 study guide. And it covered a few topics in generally better detail than some other Linux books I've read.Even after the test is passed, I expect I will refer back to this book from time to time as one of my Linux references.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
What else can I say? If you complete this book, you will pass your A+ Certification. This book is money well spent.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the paper it is printed on.
The information in this book is worse than incomplete. The practice questions in the book and on the CD are nothing like those on the EXAM. There are many practice questions that are poorly worded, and have WRONG answers. There are also many questions with TYPO's. Example there was a question comparing DIMMS and RIMMS, but all the the answers referenced SIMMS. Stay away from this please!!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Passed my A+ because of this book!
I had taken the hardware exam and failed it the first time around. Then a friend gave me the Mike Meyers' Passport book and this one. He highly recommended Passport but after reading the first chapter I was bored to tears. After reading this book, the only thing I had to complain about were the bad jokes. The presentation of the information is solid, and he takes his time explaining things. He also puts in bullet points for what you should concentrate on when studying. After reading this book 1 time from cover to cover I took the hardware again and passed it, and passed the software on the first try. ... Read more
