A+ Certification Concepts and Practices (stand-alone)
This is an Instructional Design marvel... The text is oversize, crammed with excellent and superior illustrations of more than 50 diagrams and screenshots per chapter. This is integrated into an electronic study guide. The electronic book is exactly the same material as your print book so you can take it to work or along on a business trip too. The study guide includes questions for review and an adaptive test simulating a certification exam. The electronic test, study guide and images use only 12MB in nicely organized fashion that I find useful going beyond self-learning. I'll replace our Mike Myers book in our training programs with this one. The only shortcoming I can report is that there isn't any video with the course. I used Mike Myers for our vocational training because of his great book that is integrated with a lab manual and video series. This is as good and put together the two are a marvel. Not good as a boxed set - checkout 007219524X instead
While the first two volumes covered the testing material fairly well, the last two volumes (Fundamentals II & Performance Tuning) compare very poorly to their counterparts published by Oracle Press.I have bought other Sybex study guides, and they have been nothing but good to me.This "kit" comes up a little short.If you must absolutely buy a boxed set for the cost savings, I would recommend Oracle Press's set ISBN 007219524X also available at Amazon.Read more

A bit disappointed because I expected more from this book.
I have been reading through the book. Actually it provides very clear explanations, but I had the impression the author talks too much and keep saying the same things over and over again. The book could be half its volume with the same content of knowledge. Besides the provided examples are a bit too simple and obvious.

I have received my copy of the book and I can't put it down. It has been great help with my AI research at the University. I have the other book from the same author "Programming Spiders, Bots and Aggregators in Java" and I have the same comments for both. Both are easy to read, have precise information and great code. Chapter 7 of this book "OCR with Kohonen Neural Network" makes the book more than worth it. Great stuff. I hope the author does not stop and keep writting books like these. CCIE Routing and Switching Flash Cards
A small start...
This book barely scratches the surface of the preparation required for the CCIE R&S written. The test has a considerable amount of minutia, some of which isn't even covered in the Cisco documentation. There are a number of topics on the test that not only aren't discussed in depth in this book, but actually aren't discussed at all. And of course it will in no way prepare you for the questions where you know the answer, but its not on the list (Cisco is notorious for that).

Good Book for Exam 700
I took the exam within one month from the day I bought this book and scored 87%.Read the book twice and took the sample test on IBM site.

Just what you need
Great book. covers everything you need to know for the exam. Completed one chapter each day after reading the tutorials on the IBM site and gave the questions at the back. Wrote the exam on the 8th day and got 92%. Will definitely recommend the book

Not suoitable for sun solaris 10 security exam
Took sun solaris 10 security exam today, the exam is very heavy on containers (Global vs non global, how to configure BART inglobal environment and will it flow down to non global), how to perform patching in global and non global environment, what is easiest way to setup 20 containers inside the same machine, definitions of key terms in Kerberos, what does kerberos each component do (drag and drop) and SFM and ipsec and ip filters syntax to block dns lookup. How to update the system automatically and what commands to use for automatic updating choose all correct commands . The textbook only covers 30% of the solaris 10 test only.

Unclear, unfocussed and hard to use
Unlike some of the other reviewers, I find this book quite useless. I am a system administrator with more than 8 years experience on the Sun platform.
Good study guide but you still need hands on experience
This is a very good study guide for the Sun Certified Security Administrator for Solaris Certification. However you will also need and should have some hand on experience with the OS. Don't worry though you can download the OS free at Sun for both SPARC and Intel platforms.

Good book for review
I worked with PC's for 10 years before reading this book.I already knew about half of the information in this book, but it helped confirm what I already knew and fill in the gaps for theother half.I didn't order this book from Amazon.com, I bought it off the shelf from Fry's Electronics.After looking at the other books they had on the shelf, this one seemed the most straightforward.Unlike other books written by Microsoft, I still have this one in my reference library.

Good book as a supplement..
I've looked at a dozen A+ certification books along with reading the reviews about them. Every one of them seems to get mixed reviews. They run the gauntlet from being the best book on the subject to being the worse. I bought the "All in 1 guide to A+ certification" by Mike Meyers, which while it has some flaws, seems to be fairly thorough. Of course, I haven't taken the A+ exams yet, so I could be WAY off. I passed hardware part of A+!!!!!!!!!!!
The intent of this book is try and give the absolute 'bare bones' minimum information you need to just pass in the easiest format.- It does that. I ended up with a 810 out of 900(pass is 510), and the 1 other book I used I did not receive until 2 days before I wrote the exam. Read more

Did not help me pass the certification test
I have been writing Oracle SQL for 5 years improving the efficiency of the web application our company maintains and decided to become officialy certified.I bought this book, learned some new terminology and Oracle skills.I aced the practice tests that came with the book.However, the official Oracle exam is much more difficult than the book's practice tests.I ended up buying some of Oracle's official practice tests.Of course, they may be scams as well.

Good exam reference
This is the only book I used to prepare for the OCP 1Z0-007 exam.The Oracle published exam objectives were covered and the sample test questions on CD were good.Other than one or two SQL syntax surprises, I had no problems with the exam.This book may not be adequate if you are unfamiliar with databases, SQL, and programming as there is not alot of instructional material here.Good luck.

Not enough to pass exam
This book is an update from the release 8i. Looks like the author did not take the time to properly update material, the functions chapter have missing lots of the new functions in 9i, same goes for MERGE and INSERT INTO (SELECT FROM ...) statements.Read more

Good but not enough
This book is a good, general introduction to the 70-229 exam concepts - but I had to couple it with the Transcender practice exam before I felt comfortable taking the exam.The exam topics are so broad that the book doesn't do enough to emphasize when to use what.It also skips some important topics (sp_cursoropen) and its practice tests include Full Text Searches which the book notes are unlikely to be on the exam.To the editors: A 'databases' index entry with three pages of sub-entries is redundant in a book about databases.I love the Exam Cram series, but this was the poorest book of the bunch. ... Better than nothing, but would not be my first choice again.
I bought this primarily because it was half of the cost of the Mulcahy software and I could get it shipped overnight. I had memorized the answers in the Mulcahy book and needed another source of questions. I also wanted to take at least one exam simulation. I don't regret buying this, but if I had it to do over again I would buy the Mulcahy software earlier in my studying rather than waiting until 4 days before the test. It works......it's cost effective as well....
This CD-ROM worked great for me in preparing for the PMP exam. My friends in my study group were saying to use this other CD that was almost $300 in price. I tried the PMP Success Series product out and it worked perfect in preparing me for the exam. I was able to take separate tests by framework, integration, scope, time, cost, quality, communication, hr, risk, procurement, professional responsibility, initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing. This allowed me to focus on areas that I wanted to improve without wasting time in areas I was already doing well. It also included 4 complete 200 question PMP stype exams. It was timed, allowed me to mark questions and had full explanations for all the answers.

A great resource for the CCNA exam
The days of passing the CCNA exam using just a single exam preparation guide are over. The new improved CCNA exam requires a certain level of understanding and confidence running router/switch commands from the command line interface. Exam questions include multiple-choice single answer, multiple-choice multiple answers, drag and drop, fill in the blanks, testlets, simlets and simulations. The simulation exams are usually configuration tasks of some sort.

Valuable resource for the CCIE R&S lab
CiscoPress's "CCIE Practical Studies - Volume II" by Solie and Lynch does a good job at preparing CCIE Routing & Switching candidates for the CCIE Lab.While this book picks up where Volume 1 left off, this volume does a much better job at both documenting and displaying some of the more advanced requirements of the lab.It is also important to note that this book should not be used to first introduce yourself to a topic.The book requires you to be familiar with the topics discussed.
Worth the price of admission!

Book is excellent, price is not. I lucked out and found it at Job Lot for 6.99 brand new. I bought two books there for $14, would have cost me $90 at the book stores. So shop around for a better price.

Excellent for the exam, Excellent as a review.
This book starts at the beginning of what a new networking engineer needs to know and works through several examples of how this works in the real world today.It covers TCP/IP, AppleTalk, IPX, X25, Frame Relay, and more, if you count the appendicies.Unsurprisingly, it's also the best study guide for the CCNA.The writing is vague in places, but on the whole a review of the state of technology this clear is remarkable.

Quick,, Handy Reference for a former DB2 for z/OS DBA
If you are coming from mainframe DB2, this is the book for you. Phil Gunning does a great job of explaining the many parameters and settings that make up DB2 UDB. Explanations are clear and straight to the point. It helped me to understand the DB2 UDB architecture and to get up to speed quick.

Good Tips from A DB2 Veteran
This book has helped my get started on monitoring and tuning my databases. Coming from Sybase, I had no idea where to start. I picked up this book and it guided me through all the monitoring setups and provided a monitoring and tuning methodology -- along with recommendations. This stays on my desk and is very handy.

A well written leaning tool that needs updating
Positives: It's written in an easy-to-read style that won't have you sleeping (too quickly!) It's got summary "Exam watch" blocks every few pages to summarize what you should know. It's got videos on a CD (I know, don't roll your eyes yet) that are actually helpful. Most videos that come with computer training books that I've seen are a joke. These are different: you hear the author talking while you see the actual router / switch screen while he types IOS commands and tells you what's going on.This is a GREAT intermediate step between reading about IOS commands and trying them yourself on a device or simulator. These alone are worth the price of the book.The labs provided go well with the Boson NetSim LE simulation software provided.
Finally!! The lights are on!!
I bought this book after a frustrating day spent trying to learn subnetting.I started with that subject, and the lights in my mind went on within 10 minutes of reading and working out the examples.I actually understood subnetting.Amazing!From my brief encounter with this book, I have to agree with other reviewers.This book is excellent.The explanations are thorough, yet easy to follow.The examples are crystal clear.The layout of the self-test at the end of the chapter helps you know exactly where to go back to review.The Two-Minute Drill at the end of the chapter is way better than the summaries provided in other books.I am happy I bought this book.
