5-0 out of 5 stars The Standard Text for the Cisco Course
This book is a general introduction to networking the Cisco way. It is used as a textbook by many of the training academies that are preparing students for the Cisco CCNA exam. It is also recommended by most of those that don't absolutely require it as an additional source of study and practice materials.

Editorial Review

In the certification craze of 1999-2001, tens of thousands of people earned their Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) ratings. Those certifications are expiring now, just as Microsoft is coming out with Windows Server 2003 to replace the Windows 2000 family of operating systems. There may be a real opportunity for those who earn the Windows Server 2003 certification--and that's where Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars MCSE Training Kit
I bought this set a few years back. It consists of four books, one for each of the exams, and a resource cd. While this is an okay set, I was surprised by how little actual information there is with so many books and so many pages. Ultimately, this is not what I ended up using regularly for studying. What I use regularly for studying is Stanek's MCSE Core Exams and Stanek's Windows Server 2003 Inside Out. I use the core exams book for studying and when I have a question or need more indepth, I refer to the other one. Either way, I don't see how this could be used as an only resource (I don't think any single resource could prepare one for the exams either.) At any rate, a combination of resources is what is getting me through: 70-290 done, now I've got 70-291, 70-293 and 70-294 to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars MCSA recommendation
It is a very usefull package, I recommended for all who wants to bye specialy through Amazon

5-0 out of 5 stars My review
I was not really surprized by the quality of the products , because Amazon.com have been always doing the best to deliver good products to thier customers. i was really surprized by the delivering time, because i expected it will be later than the expected schedule. the products came in a good shape to the specified P.O Box address with no difficulties.

I passed my certification exam about an hour ago with a score of 768/900 (655 required to pass).I'm not an IT professional; I was mostly interested in learning more about the Internet and showing it on a resume.Passing this test for me was more attributable to the study guide available at the link mentioned in glitteringolga's review (thank you very much for that by the way) and to looking up topics on my own.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Very confusing book
Sorry for any harsh comments. But the book is so confusing explaining even simple concepts. I got frustrated when he tries to beat around the bush to explain STRONG NAMES.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good .NET Security book.
This will be the book that you must have if you are a newcomer in .NET Security. The explanations are clear, supported by the author's own experience in the field. Also, the code is easy to follow and straightforward.
5-0 out of 5 stars I rate the book 5-star without the least hesitation.
I just passed the exam 70-340, and this was the book I used in the last 2 weeks.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Exam Cram 2, Novell NetWare 6.5 CNA is the best way to get certified.
I'm certified now thanks to this book. And what a time saver... the objectives are clearly defined and the material is straight to the point. As a bonus, the author includes brief notes on the do's and don'ts in a real world Netware environment. This is good stuff. If you are serious about getting certified, then this book is for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars A decent book, just not for the CCIE lab
CiscoPress's "Troubleshooting IP Routing Protocols" by Shamim, Azis, Liu and Martey is mislabeled.CiscoPress has labeled this book as part of their `CCIE Professional Development' series - I really do not see the value of placing this book in the same vein as other CCIE books in the series (such as Doyle, Solie, & Clark). However, having been employed as a Network Administrator for a number of years, the book does help troubleshoot and isolate routing protocol issues.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good book on IP routing troubleshooting.
This book is so far is the best out there on troubleshooting IP routing protocols. If you want to learn the theory behind each modern routing protocol (RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS, and BGP), and therefore spend less time on troubleshooting in the first place, check out "Cisco IOS for IP Routing" by Andrew Colton. These two together should take you a long way to a good understaning of Cisco IP routing.

Absolutly the best book on the topic. Authors, thank you for making my troubleshooting life easier!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I passed
I passed the hardware exam on my first try. However, it did not have a great amount to do with this book.Although the book helped me feel confident about my knowledge it did not teach me anything new that I needed for the exam. The book seemed more geared to what Mike Meyers thinks a technician should know about PCs more than what CompTIA thinks a computer technician should know.3-0 out of 5 stars Just the Facts please
I would have appreciated this resource better if his ego was left out of the writing - too many opinions and too much humor. I don't care to learn about the personality of the author, I am more interested in the content, the raw knowledge for which I am paying, presented in a clean, professional and efficient manner.4-0 out of 5 stars No answer guide
While this book is very good at what it does, teach you about PC hardware to prepare you for the A+ exam, it gives self test exams after each chapter without providing the answers. If you don't mind thumbing through the chapter to verify your answers you will probably like this book. It's a pity rhis information wasn't included in the description of this book. I called McGraw Hill's customer service and they simply stated there is no answer guide to this book. You're on your own. The same holds true with Mike Meyer's A+ guide to Operating Systems. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with this Title
As with every other IT professional I know, I have difficulty finding the time to read every technical book that I would like, and have a fast growing backlog of material to read. Because of this, I expect the material I read to be succinct and on topic. I had a need to obtain my CNE credential due to its relevance to my present job assignment, and since this is Novell's official study guide, I opted to use this book for study... Needless to say, I was disappointed.
4-0 out of 5 stars eDirectory section is the hardest
Novell continues to update and expand its network management software, and this book reflects the latest 2004-5 version, Netware 6. It is aimed primarily at those sysadmins who, for professional reasons, need to obtain a Novell certification. This being Version 6, you can see in the bulk of the book that Novell has built out a tremendous amount of material.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!!
It is WAY overpriced and as stated previously by Teresa of Ausin, TX, customer service is terrible!!! I also attempted to get the answers to the review questions at the end of each chapter: a NIGHTMARE!! The saying that "you get what you pay for" does NOT apply!!! Save yourself a lot of money and even more time & buy something else!!! Don't buy from this publisher! Buyer Beware!!! I cannot recommend AGAINST buying this book any more! If I could've given it a lower rating I would have!!! Also, notice that the few reviews that gave it high marks are several years old, so they're not talking about this edition!

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Edited
There are review questions at the end of each chapter. I have progressed through Chapter 11 to date. Every single review section contains questions that cannot be answered by information in the text. Replies from the publisher revealed that needed information was deleted in the editing process. Their suggestion was to buy the next edition. (Customer service at its best, eh?) My suggestion is to skip this book altogether and find a better edited Networking Fundamentals guide.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not accurate
I'm studying for the Network+ Exam. The book has a lot of inaccuracies. Careful if you are using this box as a study guide. I recommend Exam Cram 2 - much better. About 1 in every 15 review questions is either mis-guiding, improperly stated or just plain wrong. I give it about 2.5 stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome Book
This book is incredible, although you should probably use this book in conjunction with your studies, if you are a genius you could pass with just this book. It has enough information to cover the entire exam.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good book but not enough.....
This is my first book by which I prepared for Net+, this is really good book but not enough for studying. You will need 1 more book for complete preperation - Network+ Exam Cram 2, and plus make practice tests as much as you find. I made a lots of notes which helped to me for preparing.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must buy for those who want a Network+ certification!
I give this book 5 stars!I've picked up quite a few certification books and this was one of those which didn't put me to sleep. I found it explained concepts fairly well, especially the IP address section, and many of the questions at the end of the chapter were taken straight from the exam as if it was written by Comptia themselves.Because it was only 288 pages I only needed 3 days to read through it, and passed the exam with no prior hands on Networking experience.A must buy if you want to quickly get your Network+ certification. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars If you want to pass the test, read this.
This book is the antidote to boring or overwhelming text books. In actuality, you need to learn and memorize the same facts and figures but the author's style makes it much less of a chore. In addition, the included CD allows you to get comfortable with the taking of the certification test. The book and the CD allowed me to confidently and successfully pass my certificationtest.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the paper it was written on and way overpriced.
The information in this book is worse than incomplete. The practice questions in the book and on the CD are nothing like those on the EXAM. There are many practice questions that are poorly worded, and have WRONG answers. There are also many questions with TYPO's. Example there was a question comparing DIMMS and RIMMS, but all the the answers referenced SIMMS. Stay away from this please!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to learn Cisco's implementation of IPSec - not just for CCIEs
CiscoPress's "Network Security Principles and Practices" by Malik is truly an awesome work. The book weighs in at over 750 pages, and not a page is wasted. The book is split up over multiple sections (Intro to Network Security, Building Security into the Network, Firewalls, VPNs, IDS, AAA and ISP Security). I have found this book of value as I pursue my CCIE Routing & Switchng lab and to better enhance my basic understanding of Cisco's vision towards network security. I also used this book to prepare for my CCSP and CISSP studies.
5-0 out of 5 stars Lucid, clear, and useful
Very clear explanations of the core security technologies. The author doesn't shy away from the hard subjects, and makes them quite accessible. The IPSec chapter is the best explanation of the subject I have seen anywhere.
5-0 out of 5 stars To be added to your 'essentials' list of books
Very, VERY good. The IPSec chapter alone is worth the book, and the AAA chapters are _great_. Saadat has been able to explain in a great technical level and very clearly subjects which you're going to find in your day to day work - if working with Cisco and security. But not only that: chapters about IPSec, RADIUS, TACACS, are of value even if you do not use Cisco gear.

2-0 out of 5 stars Max's book reveiw
This book is very user unfriendly and the chapters go into to much detail and are also too long. The chapter summaries at the end of each section are very poorly written and don't discuss the highlights of the material as it should. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for all Oracle DBAs
In my opinion this book is for junior to senior dba's.It covers basic, advanced and even expert DBA topics. The books pays for itself over and over agin.

3-0 out of 5 stars Worth the time and $
I got more than my time and $ worth. It was a good guide to for getting started with Statspack. However, it looks like they rushed this one to market. The book needs another thorough edit. Not all the scripts in the book are in the download. Most of the scripts have at least one problem. Some paragraphs right next to each other seem to contradict each other. However, if you're experienced with oracle and just need to addstatspack to your bag of tricks, it's worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't miss out because title is misunderstood....
Upon reading the reviews of this book, I can understand how some have mistaken what the book was truly meant for based on its title. The book should be titled more along the lines of"Your First Job Working As a DBA: 101" or "Your Job as an Oracle DBA from Jr.to Sr. Is This the Job for You ?",you get the point.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not so sure about this book for beginners!
There are many other better books out there for beginners.Just because this say's DBA 101, doesn't mean it is for beginners.reading this book was very difficult as I had NO knowledge of Oracle and it was very confusing. After reading other books, that are far better, then picking this one back up then I could understand, But why?getting knowledge from other books, you won't need this one.Lot's of definitions of oracle parameters, Not enough real examples and very logical in nature, not practical at all

2-0 out of 5 stars Heavily padded, but some good basics
Rather tedious reading because of so much obvious padding to get the page count up to 500... I would estimate that there are 200 pages of real content here. There is a long explanation of what actions the trigger on a gun initiate, in order to be sure we understand what an Oracle "Trigger" is through a long analogy. This is a typical example of where a text is padded out to aparagraph to explain a concept that could have been done in a sentence. Authors should respect the reader's time and attention. Some of the coverage is very thin and the seams show on the revision for the 9i. We I reviewed the book and noted the highlighted passages, I realized how thin in content this actually was.Read more
