4-0 out of 5 stars Okay
I would say this is a pretty good book that covers it's subject very well, buti didn't use it much because i had also bought Unix in a Nutshell, Fourth Edition, which covered the basics and differences between the shells briefly, which was all i needed at the time. but i looked through this and read some stuff that helped and it is a good book if you plan on doing extended shell scripting. it was just a little more than i actually needed

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical and useful
Great book. The emphasis is nicely split between actually using the shell itself and the whole supporting cast of unix tools (sed, awk, cut, join, sort etc.) The idea of carefully crafting solutions using the unix toolbox mindset is key. I also like the fact he doesn't try to teach to multiple shells, but first tries to emphasize portability by sticking mainly to a POSIX standard, and only later adds info about non standard shell topics. If I could only have one book on shell scripting, this would be it. The best description is 'Practical'.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
This book is a very useful guide for computer challenged people like myself.I have found a number of the hints and tips already very useful

5-0 out of 5 stars Mind Blowing!
Being a person who is usually armed with a highlighter and pen when reading a book where I want to remember certain tips for use later, I am overwhelmed! The book would be full of nothing but highlighter marks! Scott Kelby has always been a name I have learned to go to when searching through a list of books and his name is on one of the titles. He has solidified that to be the right choice yet again. Being a new mac user I have learned so much from this book, and am feeling confident now in my choice to switch OSs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fictional History
I enjoy reading about people and places in existance prior to my lifetime. This book offers the best read for insight into the aristocractic society in the 1920s.While I did not find the characters to be likable, I believe their story to be interesting and a likely sampling of that period of time in the cities of America. The novel is an easy, fast read and worth the time if you are interested in expanding your knowledge in Classic American Literature.

Tom Buchanan is the super-rich, unforgivingly prejudiced symbol of white manly strength and perfection. He can't stand the thought of mixed relationships, "next thing they'll have intermarriage between blacks and whites" (p.137).Oddly enough Fitzgerald gives Tom that line to describe the significance of the suspected extra marital affair between his wife Daisy and Gatsby. Was he inferring that becuz Gatsby was not a European white (Tom refers to himself and his crowd as Nordics) he was doomed to fall?

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for some programmers
I liked this book, but it is somewhat limited in its scope.I'm a software engineer, and this book doesn't offer tips on designing software. However, it is phenomenal for code tuning and improving programming style and logic. The experienced coder will not be disappointed with this book in his/her library.Even the new coder can learn valuable tips from this. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Network textbook
This is a great book for learning the CCNA material. It will teach you all of the major points that you need to study to pass the exam. Even if you are not taking the exam and just want information on how networks are designed, this is the book. I found it a good read and the practice CD was priceless in learning how to issue commands to the various Cisco routers. A great book and worth the money too!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Clearify something....5 stars not accurate...
Everyone here critizes<< typos here and there.. lacking this and lacking that... WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND if this book is so bad... remember that next time you write a negative review.. that will help us (the newbies) know where to get this right information....
3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointingand frustrating
For the last 3 years I would have sworn by Todd Lammle's CCNA Study Guides; mainly do to his free-hearted writing style that seem to add an element of humor to complex reads. However, this book has far too many errors and lacked technical intensity. In the past, I used Todd's 607 Study Guide to pass the archived 607 exam on the first try.Two and half years later, I purchased the 801 Study Guide with the same enthusiasm. After reading this book twice, taking all 8 bonus exams repeatedly, and exhausting the capabilities of the simulation software, I took the comprehensive 801 exam this weekend and did not pass!My exam had multiple questions that were not covered in Lammle's book. Not to mention the lack of coverage of NAT, that seems to magically show up on my exam.None of which was covered with enough detail within this book. Moreover, the Virtual Lab was not exhaustive and far too basic (No OSPF, EIGRP or NAT simulation capabilities). In my opinion, this is not acceptable. Especially when I was faced with these topics through out my exam.I wish this book did a better job of pinpointing the areas that were and would be crucial on the exam.Although Todd Lammle attempted to do place emphasis on certain points, none of those points showed up on test day.Obviously, Cisco has made the exam harder to achieve by reading materials alone (even there own text). Therefore, accurate and thought-provoking supplemental materials are a must!!The bonus questions simply repeat themselves over-and-over again. The book as a whole lacked coverage on crucial technologies and is filled with confusing statements and answers that turn out to be mistakes- Go figure! All of which, led me to give this book 3 stars (maybe closer to 2 1/2). ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Insightful, but short for the price
This book is a well-written look at, like the title says, the elements of user experience. While I think the $30 price tag (retail price) is a bit high for a 180 page book, and I think the topic would have been better covered in an eBook or long article (or series of articles), the author succeeds in communicating his vision of the pieces that comprise a user experience.
1-0 out of 5 stars User centered bloatware!
Some nice ideas in a book with far too many pages. This story could be told in an article (OK, I'll admit a lenghty one), but it doesn't need a whole book to tell. And, although the ideas are nice, they are certainly not essential and they could be traded in for other equally good ideas on user-experience (imho)

5-0 out of 5 stars Better IA through better understanding of the Dev Process
JJG has enlightened me about the 5 layers of User Experience Design: Strategy, Scope, Structure, Skeleton, and Surface.I have learned that the traditional Information Architecture of categorizing, labeling, and indexing data leaves much to be desired when trying to have a significant impact on the User-friendly outcome of a web application's Software Development Lifecycle.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not good enough
I'm afraid that I was not as impressed as the other reviewers. The book failed to mention that you need to have InfoPath installed to run some of the exercises. There is little of how a real world configuration might look.It does give some "click the screen" simulations of what the program might do.But then, you could get the same thing by installing it yourself.

If you have never used Microsoft's SharePoint Services, then this is a good book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Give you clear look of little giant
This book gives you the bird-eye view of the world's renowned photo management software, it has some useful information for amateur photographer who is intended to use iPhoto software, written in plain english. It is little interesting that one-thirds of the entire book contents are cover how to choose the right digital camera and how to take a good shot, of course, you don't have to worry since its another two-thirds of pages are fulled about some kind of "soft" thing, which is about acquire, manage, tag, retouch and share or archive your pictures.

2-0 out of 5 stars Book is kind of outdated
Book is based on 2.4 kernel. Since we are currently at 2.6 kernel this book does seem to have outdated information

4-0 out of 5 stars Good guide
It would be a good guide to a person to prepare for a project to develop embedded linux system. It gives you the information what is necessar, what is work well and how to get them. Butyou should have some experience on linux language.
2-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
I read this book in about 2 hours and the contents really disappoint me.I expected the book to discuss in details of the issues related to embedded linux. And to a degree, this book is like a dictionary of all the terms you might encounter during the development and only a few direct examples. And given how fast the Linux kernel, open source packages evolve over time, the examples given in this book is totally outdated.

5-0 out of 5 stars SBS2003 R2 - direct, pertinent, useful
I found this book to be an excellent one volume resource on the variety of features and functionality offered in SBS.
5-0 out of 5 stars Companion book for even non R2ers
While this book is called the SBS 2003 R2 companion book, and is indeed a companion to the R2 product, even if you don't have R2, but merely SBS 2003 SP1, this is an excellent resource and should actually be purchased instead of the original SBS companion book. The "must have" features for non R2 owners include the chapters on setting up secure wireless and the ISA content. The "must have" stuff for R2 era owners obviously include the WSUS information.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a reference but a walk though book
I didn't find this book useful for finding what I'm looking for fast. Commands and Linux Topics are scattered about the book in different section. The directory and index had little use for finding what I'm looking for, a quick web search turned up faster focused results. This book touches the surface in order to get a novice going but thats about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars linux informative
This is a good book for the linux "newbie" or someone who is famaliar with other flavors of linux and want to brush up on this new version of Fedora. The book gets really in depth but I realized that everything I was looking for was already self explanatory on the desktop. The core linux command line stuff isn't there but you should buy a book that contains that information before tackling a server build first anyway.
5-0 out of 5 stars Unleashed books still the best!
just wanted to say how impressed I have been with the Unleashed series of books, I worked on an old Linux unleashed book years ago and lately I have been training SuSE and RedHat courses for a Novell platinum partner training company in South Africa, I have tried other books like the SuSE bible and have not been very satisfied since they are not comprehensive enough. I bought your book on Fedora 4 unleashed the other day and am pleased to say that it is still the same quality, easy to read and very comprehensive, that is why I recommend the unleashed series of books as the first choice to all my students. When you are in a training environment and you sometimes have very little time to prep a new course, having a book like this take a lot of pressure off you. ... Well laid out, high physical quality, effectively written text good for teaching pure beginners how to use this tool [and even v.1 has some tips for those who are experienced] with lots of useful exercises. What limitsthis to 3 stars is the fact that OUTLOOK 2000 is not covered in any waywhatsoever, despite the fact that it is an essential part of OFFICE whichis heavily used in many organizations. The index also proved lacking whenI wanted to find out about 'speaker's notes' in POWER POINT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good reference for any Windows administrator or planner
The 2003 performance guide was probably one book that's worth the price of this entire package.Mark Friedman, the author of Windows 2000 Performance Guide, wrote this book for resource kit. That explained why he never published a follow-up of his famous 2000 performance book. The other books in the kit were also extremely helpful. This is THE set of reference book to get for authoritative Windows 2003 information. Also included is a disc with all the ebook versions of everything, including some bonus books not in the resource kit.So stop Googling for unreliable second hand information, and get your stingy boss to cough up the money for this must have tool.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sybex Rocks
Sybex rocks, Mike Myers is also very well written but they don't have the entire book in pdf format or any format for that matter. That makes studying easier. Now all they are missing is to get off their Bill Gates paranoia and let you print from the pdf. Overall it's a great study guide. Five stars would mean I could print the pdf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful
This book has a lot of really useful information. I highly recommend it if you know nothing of computers. I know a lot of computers, being a computer technician, but this book talks about stuff I would have never figured out.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cut out the fluff, and beef up the O/S Technologies
I passed both exams relying solely on this book. However, I nearly tanked on the O/S test b/c the book just barely covers Windows XP, which accounts for 60% of the O/S exam (directly or indirectly). And, like someone else pointed out, I would have certainly failed had I not had 5+ years in IT behind me.If you are inexperienced or not sure about yourself, don't rely on this book due to the complex nature of Windows XP.You'll do fine with the hardware, although there is a lot of fluff that would waste your time. For the O/S part though,Windows XP *should* have had its own section in the book with a detailed discussion.Since, this book failed to do it, not to mention the many typos and logical errors of a critical nature, the only recourse for the unfortunate Comptia A+ candidate is to dole out some additional cash for a book dedicated to Windows XP.

2-0 out of 5 stars great info - terrible editing
This book came so highly recommended it seemed like a sure thing. And in fact, it has a wealth of info on use cases; I can certainly see it being a valuable reference for someone who is already an expert with use cases. For those with no previous exposure, however, it is a tiresome morass to wade through; so cluttered and muddled that finding the underlying meaning becomes a real challenge. This book could have been edited to 2/3rds the size, and been a far better book because of it. Was the editing staff on vacation?

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST book about use cases
I teach the official IBM Rational training called Requirements Management with Use Cases here in Brazil.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This is the best book i have read on use case modeling. Pitfalls are covered in great detail. The book is well structured. The only negative thing i can think off, if I have to state one, is that the author sometimesgives better definitions of terms in places where you would not expect to find them. Still all definitions are more consistent, than I have seen in other books related to usecase modeling. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars an up to date book
a good up to date book on linux but author devotes to much time and space and chapters covering servers which the ordinary desktop user wont use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Slightly above average resource
This book has quite a bit of good information, but if I see yet another Linux book devote an entire chapter or more to using Mozilla Firefox, I think I'll scream.Yet it continues to happen.Sure, the applications are part of the operating system, but those of us looking for a good OS resource want more meat and less potatoes, so to speak. This book does take you through the steps to setting up most everything that the beginner to intermediate user would want to set up - on their workstation. Most of the content focuses on using the GUI, but at times also gives the command line interface equivalent. If you're looking for a resource to help you find the RHEL/FC equivalent of what you've been doing in another distro, or another UNIX variant, it's not a bad choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book mainly for intermediate level programmer.
The new book of Negus is of superb quality to
