Good, but problematic....
I just passed my 70-271 exam and I do believe this book was an important factor in my score. However this book is problematic.
Don't use this book as a primary study guide
There's a lot of unnecessary info in this book that you won't even see on the exam.The practice questions in the book are way too wordy and confusing.Exam Cram has helped me in the past, but not this time.

Don't buy this book, it's awful.

Poor readability
This publication attempts, with good intentions, to provide a complete overview of Controller Area Network, but lacks the basics of good and comprehensible writing. The technical information on the CAN standard is mostly solid and provides some interesting details, but also contains a number of incosistencies and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Rather than concentrating on CAN alone, the author(s) decided to include sections on higher-layer protocols such as CANopen, DeviceNet and others, which are too detailed for a quick overview, yet by far not sufficient for someone who needs solid information. Also, the author(s) apparently did not invoke the process of proof-reading before publishing their work (

This book is a comprehensive textbook from which engineers can learn how to develop CAN networks and Higher Layer CAN Protocols. It is an essential part of any engineering library covering the physical, data link and higher layer protocols of CAN, including CANopen, DeviceNet, SAE J1939 and time-triggered CAN (TTCAN). A great resource on a little understood subject.
CiscoPress's "Cisco LAN Switching" by Clark and Hamilton is a book I have mixed feelings on.For years, this book has been considered the "Bible" or the "Source" for LAN switching topologies.But I feel if I am going against the grain when I write that I have never put this book on the same altar as Doyle's Routing TCP/IP books or some others.It is an odd feeling to be the lone voice out.
Needs updating
This book provides great information on the core switching concepts.The Spanning tree section is excellent.Unfortunately the text's age is starting to show.Most of the examples are in CatOS.

Practical, useful guide to issues in Cisco switching
Cisco LAN Switching by Kennedy Clark and Kevin Hamilton is considered a definitive guide to Cisco switching - and rightly so. The book contains an exhaustive presentation on all aspects of switching - from the basics of switching technologies, to the protocols and algorithms used in campus switching, to real-world designs of campus switching environments. Good overview of storage networking
This is one of the best books I've encountered in many years.What I like about it:
Succinct overview of Storage Networks
A very good translation of the german text. There are a few areas where the translation falters but overall excellent. This is not an implementation book. It's meant to be a general overview of the Storage Network universe. The authors focus on Fibre Channel SAN which is still dominant in large corporations and gaining popularity among mid level companies. The book does a good job of explaining the plus/minus of all the competing standards as well as giving an infrastructure map of each of the technology setups. Interesting Book
I found the material mostly interesting if not occassionaly difficult to read.However, I found it infurating that the review questions and problems asked at the end of the chapters, could not be answered based on the materials in the chapters.
up to date on using cryptography
Stallings presents an updated education on cryptography. With a secondary emphasis on network security. In the cryptographic sections, there is a strong mathematical flavour. The narrative is not a high level, management-type discussion. It favours the professional mathematician and programmer, and ideally the intersection of these two skill sets.
As with all of Stallings' books, this is top notch for intro and advanced.

Great for a Newbie Computer System Administrator...
This book is 5 Stars for a newbie Admin.It is an easy read and covers the basics that an Admin should know.It exposes you to methods and ideas you may not have thought about when it comes to security.The book also mentions several software Apps to help monitor and protect the network.

Might as well buy the RHCE book by jang (4th edition)
I bought the RHCE book (jang 4th edition) and used it to study for the RHCE exam. Because the exam encompasses both the RHCT abd RHCE exam, i thought i could use the RHCT book as a way to refine skills geared strictly towards just the RHCT portion of the exam. This book really is just a subset (cut and paste) of the RHCE book from jang, with a very few changes. You are better off just getting the RHCE book by jang and using it to study for both the RHCT and RHCE. The skills you learn, although not super in depth, will force you to learn or relearn key concepts that will potentially be on the exam.

It would be a MUCH better book with a different title
While this work may be "The Official Guide" it is a long way from complete or authoratative. It is much more of an overview than a guide. It is an excleent overview or enhancements book for readers with a technical background.
A great TECHNICAL review of DB2 UDB V8
This is a great book for what I do. I needed to keep on top of the new features in DB2 -- though for the wrong reasons (we are an Oracle business partner), I def'ly got to see all the new features with deep technical explanations and even examples; pretty neat stuff from IBM I must say. I looked at the What's New Guide that was referenced in other comments before buying this book, hoping to save a buck. Too bad they don't have a review forum for that book, horrible. All marketing fluff. Don't bother trying to find it -- it will only make you mad. Buy this book.

Comprehensive and complete.
Not only does this kit provide excellent study material, but it will alsoprove to be an invaluable reference afterward. For people (like me) whocannot afford the instructor-led courses, this kit provides the necessarytraining to not only pass the exams, but also to be a good networkengineer. Use one of the study guides just before the exam, but use thiskit to gain a thorough understanding of the material first.

Check First!
I purchased this training kit mainly because it contained a 120 day evaluation copy of NT.I thought that working with NT would be much more beneficial than just reading about NT.I didn't get very far into itbefore I ran into some problems with the software.From what I did read,the information provided seems relatively well organized and informative. There is a caveat. Excellent book that suites for anyone!

Great book to learn the Art of Network Monitoring!
I am not sure how I was first introduced to the author, Mr. Bejtlich.I cannot remember if I first noticed his work via his excellent blog or this, his first book.Either way, after reading "The Tao of Network Security" by Richard Bejtlich, I feel he has prepared and educated me in a way unlike any other author.The first item you must recognize is the tone that this book dictates right from the outset.The book begins by citing many different authors, their books and their value.I knew immediately that I was in for a treat.And I was right!
Shows a disciplined approach to network security monitoring
A problem with the approach many people take to network and security monitoring is that they expect it to be plug and play.Install the software and then stop attackers in their tracks.If only it was so easy.But one can't simply install monitoring software or an IDS, collect data and expect it all to correlate and correct itself.

excellent for developing network programs
I bought this about 4 years ago.It was extremely helpful for the socket programs that I have had to develop.I don't do TCP/IP socket programming full time, but this helped me to develop several robust applications.I used it to develop a BGP peering monitor application as a server that also uses sockets for remote reporting.I also used it in developing an active network probing application that looks for forwarding plane faults, making use of various active sending and recieving sockets: UDP, raw and ICMP.

entry-level textbook disguised as "tips"
I don't know why this book is rated so highly.There's nothing wrong with the content (what little there is), but I feel that it's misrepresented as a book for intermediate level network programmers.I was expecting discussion on when to use select() vs. multi-threaded vs. single-threaded servers, for example.But this book is more for beginners (Tip #1, "Understand the difference between connectionless and connection-oriented protocols").
Perfect reference for network programmers
This book is a perfect addition to the library of any network programmer. It brings the balance between practicality and knowledge to a topic as TCP/IP Programming. If you want more knowledge go with Stevens, but if you want to learn fast or to review some concepts or even have a reference book, this is your book.

Simply badly designed for exams
I believe that the writers made some bad choices when they first began to write this book. First of all, unlike most other certification books the exam goals are not together in one section. Instead there are whole chapters for queries, indexes, views, etc with all of the information about each topic in that chapter. So if you wanted to read about 'query optimization' you would have to read the sections within that chapter about query optimation from the queries chapter, from the index chapter, some from the views chapter, etc. So if you want to review a specific topic that you are not as good at you will be doing a lot of page flipping.
This Won't Prepare You For 70-229 But a Good Starting Point.
This book is a very easy read, explains concepts clearly, but lacks the kind of detail necessary for passing the 70-229 exam, especially if you are taking this as an elective on the developer track. It will get you through most of what you need to know at 10,000 feet, but it will not take you to a passing score. It taught me things I had never used and for that it is well worth the time investment. I also love the fact that you can install the "e-book" on a laptop and a desktop at home and never carry the hard cover book around.
Book for SQL novice

Good book -weak in areas
I bought this book for my Solaris 10 Upgrade exam -result, passing score!However unless you are an experienced SA,I would recommend not using this book as your sole study guide.There are a few technical inaccuracies in addition the material fails to delve deeply enough into certain key exam areas such as Sol on X86. Post-exam, I view it as a nice Sol 10 reference to keep around.

Good but not perfect
A well written book, gives you almost the information you need to pass the certification exams and also some additional information. Unfortunately it still lack a few information that SUN ask in some questions. I think this is a good book and reference, but you need to already know Solaris and SUN platforms or you'll find this book a bit difficult.

It's a good book, it contains all details about Solaris 10..& repeating Solaris '10'..as there're many books claiming it's subject is Solaris 10 but in fact they don't cover any of Solaris 10 new topics..this book does.

Amazon doesnt have this book and did not deliver after 2 months too!
I have tried to buy this book from Amazon. When buying it says it will ship in 2-3 weeks, but even after two months Amazon keeps mailing that it would still be delayed by a month. Be careful while buying this book from amazon, as in my case the purpose is finshed before i even got the book.

Might be ok but...
I bought this book because I was trying to teach myself enough to become a Financials Developer.This still MIGHT be the right book for me.However, this is not a step by step guide to the installation.In addition, the book assumes some familiarity with accounting systems.

The best book to learn Neural Networks
As an undergraduate Math and Computing student, when I took up a high-level course in Neural Networks as an open elective, the only book my instructor recommended was Neural Networks by Simon Haykin. I got that book, and was soon put off by the mathematical rigour it had.

I found it is best for beginner with best suited examples. It teaches as if teacher is with you and the way examples seleted is the best. After completion of this book you feel as if expert in subjet with true fundamental knowledge in ANN programming. Best book to start with ANN Programming

I bought this book ages ago without any knowledge of neural nets and used the book and accompanying neutral.exe executable to conduct a research study.I am not a C/C++ programmer so I cannot speak to the clarity or quality of the code but I did carefully read the text of the book and I found it very helpful in understanding neural nets and applying them.(Readers might complement this book with a good, practical social sciences text on applying regression... for example, Masters and the AI community seemed to have a poor grasp of the phenomenon of "shrinkage" in noisy environments.)

Just awful
ACE is great, no doubt.This book is not.If I had been scanning ACE code for years and needed a reference, this book might be great, but like a kid in a foreign land, this book only confused me more than it helped.Here's why:
