Great Book.Helped me outline my research paper
I found this book to be a useful introduction to creating a virtual classroom.I am a student studying instructional technology and it has helped me put together the outline for my research paper.The book is nottechnical, nor is it a guide for online curriculum.What it does isdiscusses at an introductory level the tools of creating an onlineclassroom. Good overview for beginners
I found that the text filled in some blank spots around what I already know.It also provided a good outline not necessarily for the technical side of things, but more from a theoretical approach.It answers thequestions that begin with, "Why?"

This book is amazing
I purchased Web Connection from west-wind.com and was very excited about the possibilities, however I knew very little about how the web worked, and I made many mistakes. Up and Running In the First 4 Chapters!
This book is extremely timely for me. I have a WC web site for my business, and the SSL appendix alone is worth the price of the book. I really liked how the entire development process was summarized in the first 4 chapters so developers can get an immediate sense of accomplishment before they get into the details in the later chapters. BUY IT, READ IT, AND JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!
The alternate title of this book should be:THE ~COMPLETE~ AND ONLY GUIDE TO COLLEGE DEGREES BY MAIL AND INTERNET YOU WILL NEED TO READ.Excellent and up-to-date information regarding courses, tuition, residency requirements.I will FINALLY be able to confidently and comfortably select 'THE' Masters Program that is right for me!Tuition is quite varied and ranges from low to very high...Bears' Guide saved me the time and frustration of looking at schools with astronomically high tuition rates.If you are just beginning to look at Distance Learning programs, have been looking for awhile and are not able to make a decision, or you are just thinking about a DLP, this book is essential.

I only wish I had known about this 20 yeras ago!
If you want to get your education and not go into slavery with your student loans. Then get this book ASAP, it covers just about everything one needs to know on how to get your degree. I really think the future of higher education is going this way. But if you want to spend a lot of time, money, grief and get a real ration of manure. Then don't read this book!

Amazing Book for Anyone Interested In Distance Learning
As I have been contemplating receiving my Bacherlor's degree through a University's Distance Learning Program, I was lost as to where to start. That is, until I found this book. BEARS' GUIDE TO COLLEGE DEGREES BY MAIL & INTERNET. John Bear's book contains listings of tons of colleges, that offer correspondence, independent study, and internet degrees. With information about each school, website addresses, e-mail addresses, etc. that make it easy for the interested party to find out everything they need to know. One thing that I recommend to everyone is to find out the accreditation agencies that support the schools listed before you sign up with them, as not all are regionally accredited. Overall, this was a fantastic book, and a must have for anyone who is interested in pursuing a degree through distance learning.Read more

A reference book for anybody interested in Knowledge and Learning Mgmt!!!
I liked so much the Knowledge and Learning management holistic approach of the book. In other words i havent seen before any textbooks dealing in an integragted way with knowledge and learning management. Most of them discuss e-learning which in fact is a stupid term!!! What means e-learning? Learning Mgmt is very nice term.
Surprising VERY GOOD!!!
When I saw this title, I was triggered by the combination of many HOT keywords on title: Knowledge, Intelligent, Learning, Semantic Web.
An excellent Book. I found many answers. I loved its editing strategy
I got the best value for my money in this title. Aiming to explore Knolwedge Management and E-learning through a semantic web perspective in business environments, i found the contents of this book to the point.

Valuable reading (if you are objective)
I am always amused by "reviewers" who trash another consultant's book.Every guy with a phone and fax who thinks he is a consultant finds it in their interest to degrade other concepts. A classic
"A portal is a web capability developed by an organization in which a company offers its own products as well as products from competitors." (Page 85) This definition shows a basic lack of understanding of what a portal is. "The client is the architect." (Page 103) Try telling that to the IT people. The illustrations on pages 98 - 99 are simplistic beyond belief. I've read many IT books in my time, but this one takes the cake!

Basic business strategy with some interesting nuances

For the new sysadmin
As the various unixes developed in the 1990s, vendors tried to make administration easier by writing proprietary UIs to simplify tasks. For example, IBM came up with SMIT. Of course, each UI was only for that vendor's unix. A developer, Cameron, set out to simplify this across vendors, by writing Webmin. Trained Monkeys with Alzheimers WOULD have done better
As the title states it is my belief that trained monkeys with alzheimers would have done a better job on this book. I had to buy this for a college class and I feel dumber just by reading it. The first project they have you do is interview five people to "Create a Personal Network" What the heck interviewing five people and putting their answers on cards would have to do with the internet I'll never know. I know that that was the first project but jeeze they could have at least had you fire up a fricken browser or something. Maybe even turn the computer on. But wait it gets better. Next we go onto sorting your favorites folder. This is garbage and I feel I have wasted money on it. Had I been able to this would have gotten negative stars on the stupid rating. ... Read more

This is not an MCSE exam guide...
Nor does it claim to be one.It does what is says it will do:Give a rookie a guide for setting up and running a vanilla install of IIS and Proxy server.If you're looking to be spoon fed answers on how to take a test, this book is not for you.

Completely Inadequate
This book doesn't even come close to covering the information on the exam.I relied on information from my instructor, class notes and Transcender exams to pass.

A Must Read Book For Anyone New to the Field of WBT
Being new to the area of WBT, I found this book to be extremely helpful in providing tips, tools and considerations for the development, and management of web-based training (WBT).I believe the authors present a very realistic view of WBT.They do not present it as a panacea for all training needs and acknowledge the tricky balance between effectively utilizing technology and paying attention to fundamental learning theory.In addition to providing valuable information to help guide the development and management of WBT, the authors incorporate effective and interactive training methods throughout the book including case study examples, interviews with people currently involved in WBT, exercises and various scenarios that together make the book extremely interesting, engaging and easy to read.I believe the book is a "must read" book for anyone new to the field of WBT. ... Mediocre, Web version for free
Like so much in the opensource world, this book is not designed for the ease of it's users.The authors show little concern for accessebility or introducing their material in a structured, sensible manner befitting a primer on Gimp.This book, at best, has value as a reference work...

Eye candy and nothing more
A total waste of money (and the English language). The authors are more concerned with showing their "guru" status than with actually instructing the reader in such basics as applying plug-ins, transparencies... By all means, if you're a guru yourself, this book will be more understandable. But then again, if you're a guru yourself, you shouldn't need to toss your money away.

Incredibly bad writing.
I will just add to the two negative reviews below by saying that the*explanations* I read when skimming through the book were so bad that Icould only understand the sections on points I was already familiar with. The authors falsely advertise this book when they say 300 INCREDIBLE THINGS TO LEARN ON THE INTERNET.Instead, they provide 300 classifications with several URLs included in each classification.An estimate based on an unscientific sampling of the 300 classifications, the book provides gateways to over 1000 incredible things. Something Incredible for EVERYONE to Learn!
