Awesome book.
Starts out a little dry, but it's the necessary building blocks for the rest of the book. This is a great end-to-end description of the science of IW. Good buy!

Passed my CISSP Test today!!
I received notice today that I passed the CISSP test, and this book was the main source I used for studying.It is thorough without giving you extraneous information you don't need for the test.The writing style is adequately pleasant to get through for a technical book. Having the book in PDF form as well was a really helpful plus.
Another Great Guide
This is another great guide from Krutz and Vines. I have my CISSP and purchased this one for the ISSEP guide and as a reference.

This book is much better than the first edition.This book I think is the best of the Dr. Krutz books so far on the CISSP and the only one on the ISSEP.I'm focusing on the ISSEP for this review.

If I could I'd rank 0 stars
Well, I never read the book but what all reviews are true. Ankit Fadia is nothing but a charlatan. He claims to be a hacker but can't write or read code, never found a bug and maybe had never exploited a system in his whole life.

Excellent investment for your money whether you are a buyer or a seller.
I have only read about half of the book so far and already I have used many of the tips and scripts. All the scripts mentioned in the book are available online so you don't have do all that typing.Many of the hacks are not really hacks, but tips and recommendations on how to do things.

Suberb, comprehensive and well-written
Now, let me disclaim that I am not a big fan of thin books claiming to be "comprehensive". In fact, I was deeply suspicious while getting this "Hacknotes" thing. Was I up for a pleasant surprise!! This book does deliver what it promises. It walks a fine line of being both wide and deep, which I am still amazed about. From risk assessment methodologies to "find / -perm 0400" in just 200 pages is no small feat. Should be a reference for every admin
While a little knowledge can be dangerous, no knowledge can be deadly. HackNotes Network Security Portable Reference covers an immense amount of readily available information that is required for network and system administrators, who need the information quickly and concisely. This book is a must-have reference manual for any administrator.

Still a great book on essential security tools
I reviewed the first edition "Anti-Hacker Tool Kit" (AHT:1E) in August 2002, and the second edition (AHT:2E) in June 2004.AHT:3E was published in February 2006.I continue to like AHT, because it addresses many of the tools an operational security professional should know how to use.I'll point out the differences between AHT:2E and AHT:3E, then offer some suggestions for AHT:4E.

It wasn't what I expected.
I found they print of the book isn't practical, pages too closed to each other. It speaks about Windows2000 exploits and tools used to hack into it, while Windows2003 is out from a while; but no one can deny the book had usefull things in it.

Useful Hacks for you digital camera
Digital Photography Hacks is a part of O'reilly's hacks series, which provide tricks and solutions for different fields. This book gives you tips and tricks when dealing with your digital camera.
Useful Tips, But Lots of Tips are Neither Hacks nor Industrial-Strength
I am an amateur photographer and I did learn a number of useful things from this book. However, I am rating it a 3, primarily because it contains few information on what I really bought this book for: to take better photos using my digital camera. I got the Digital Photography Pocket Guide, 2nd Edition by the same author at the same time as this book, and that one taught me more about how to take better digital photos.
Neat Little Photo Book
Be prepared, this book has no real theme. It is a hodgepodge of interesting stuff. The photoshop section is very good, which is surprising, as that is not the focus of the book. However, I learned a good deal from that section. Some of this stuff most people will never use, but it definately gets you thinking. More fun from the most imaginative security writers on the scene
I reviewed the first Stealing book in May 2003, and the second in September 2004.I liked the two earlier books, and the third book -- Stealing the Network: How to 0wn an Identity (STNHT0AI) -- is also a fun read.The book is most impressive when it outlines plausible scenarios for identity theft, penetrating wireless networks, and compromising Hushmail.Although some of the writing is rough, I still recommend reading this book.
How about some proofreaders?
Good story, followed through pretty well from STN:Continent, which I haven't read in quite some time, so I didn't really do much cross-referencing, so take that comment for what it's worth.My two major issues with the book were:
Entertaining and shocking
This book is disturbing-it's so insanely simple to steal an identity. But this shock is not without purpose.Through reading the very entertaining anecdotes about social engineering, hacking, and just plain fraud, you get a sense of what can be done to protect your identity.

Handy web application security resources
In last two months, I conducted a web application security course for professionals and I started to collect relevant course content. A pentest professional recommended me to read this book because it provides many useful tools and explanations of vulnerability exploits and defenses.

This is a great book that introduces the core concepts of web application security for both security professionals and software developers. More security books should be written in this spare the details and cut to the chase format. It's high-level enough for beginners yet contains meat that techies and security veterans can benefit from. VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Are you one of the millions of users who suddenly need nothing more than a laptop and wireless card to get online? If you are, then this book is for you! Authors Rob Flickenger and Roger Weeks, have done an outstanding job of writing the 2nd edition of a practical book that gives you the reader, the most out of your wireless networking hardware and software.
Fantastic Stuff
As others have suggested, it really is not about hacks. Actually its the computer jargon, that keeps varying time to time. There really is a very thin line between hacks and cracks. One suggestion, "The book's title could have been "Wireless tips/hacks for Geeks". Bug again for Geeks, the current title should be fine(endless loop).
One of the best around
Wireless Hacks is one of the best, most succinct books on all things wireless that I have come across.I was expecting the standard "how to set up and secure a wireless access point" fare, and while you do get some of that, you get so much more as well.The authors really do a good job covering everything wireless.From BlueTooth technology, to standard WiFi, to hacking routers, to creating your own antennas, this is a great book for anyone interested in wireless technology.

Chirillo Strikes Again!
As a companion with his other title, Hack Attacks Revealed, John Chirillo gives us another great book on keeping our networks away from the prying eyes and stubby fingers of the those out there that don't need to be inside our networks, white or black hatters. The content is very well-structured, all concepts are supported by numerous examples so even if one doesn't understand the subject in it's depth he or she can find an answer to a specific real-world question. They say sequels are never better than the original. This may be somewhat true for this book. This is a VERY GOOD book. It's just that it's not as good as the first volume. It is a lot better...it is so much more geared for both sides of the IT spectrum...those of us up to our necks at the NOCs, and for the SOHO admin who needs juicy morsels for his knowledge palate... I have already started to implement Chirillo's countermeasures from this book, on top of the ones we are forced to use in a government system. Kudos to the author! ... Read more
