Great starter book to learn the basics before moving on.
I found that this book was a great starter book when I first purchased my IPAQ. It was very useful and I still refer to it on a regular basis. It is more like the user's manual in print. I plan to buy another book to move me to the next level. But I would highly recommend this book as a reference book and keeper for anyone's library. Great job Mr. McPherson.

Sub-par unless you're technologically ignorant
I was excited to get my hands on this book, hoping that it would shed further light on the potential of my already positive Pocket PC experience. This book did little to help me. Great Help for a New Pocket PC Owner
I bought the McPherson book shortly after buying my Jornada Pocket PC.This book is a must have for new handheld owners.It is very easy to understand and helps you become familiar with this incredible device.The book introduces you to functions that the owner's manual does not mention and in much greater detail.Illustrations are helpful.The book is well worth the money.I highly recommend the book and know that I will refer back to it in the months ahead. The only Palm book you'll ever need
I bought this book when I bought my Palm Zire 71, and I am absolutely amazed at how much I have learned. The tips in this book alone are worth the price. For instance, I learned that I could Hotsync my Palm with my Yahoo web address book. I learned how to beam entire programs to my friend's Palm. And I learned that I could read books on my Palm, which I had no idea you could do and now love more than anything. The authors really seemed to have fun writing the book, too, and that sense of fun comes through to the reader. So much better than most computer books I've read that are dry and dull. HIghly recommended!

Glossed Over Wi-Fi
It is disappointing that, after spending HUNDREDS of dollars on a new Palm, no printed manual is included.How to Do Everything with Your Palm is what Palm should have included with their products.This book is a good read for the first-time Palm owner and offers some new tricks for the experienced user. This is a brand new edition and it covers all the newer Palms running OS 5, such as the Tungstens and Zires. Very well-written and an excellent choice for new or non-techie users. What I like about this book is that it covers a wide range of things you can do with your PDA, from the basic built-in functions to fairly advanced stuff like downloading your email or surfing the Internet by linking through a cell phone. This is one of the most useless books i have ever seen
This book reminds me of the fluff book that gordon letwin wrote at the dawn of OS/2. Like that one this book is full of hopeless drivel. Must be Windows Expert
This book is a poor choice if you want to learn to program in the Pocket PC environment.The back cover calls this a "practical guide" but the book spends most of the first six chapters describing how Windows CE programming evolved from Windows programming.You must be fluent in Windows application development in C++ for this book to be useful.The examples are poor and do not work with the Visual Tools software available at the Microsoft site.

Unfortunately a lot of examples in this book are not for PocketPC platform. I tested them on x86emu, Compaq iPAQ and Casio PocketPC devices and analized MFC code. Some examples must be strongly modified to work on this platform. ... Read more

I don't recommend it
Poorly organized. Useful neither as a field reference nor study manual. Don't waste your money. Much better investments are: (1) Upgrading And Repairing PCs, Field Guide, by Scott Mueller, and (2) Pocket PCRef, by Thomas J. Glover & Millie M. Young. Get the book,you will NOT regret it!
This book is amazing.I repair and troubleshoot PC's professionally, this book is one of my most valuable tools.I always take it with when I am out in the field.I cannot even begin to guess how many times this book has help me find a solution to a problem quicker than I would have found it on my own.I own many pc repair and troubleshooting books.If I were made to give them all up but one; I would not even have to consider which one I would keep.I would keep Bigelow's PC Technician's Troubleshooting Pocket Reference without hesitation.Get the book,you will not regret it.It is a must have tool for your repair kit, absolutely incredible!

I found this book to be exactly what I was in search of - something to clearly explain how to use NetLib along with well documented examples! Greg Winton does an excellent job of taking the reader through the development of an FTP application (explaining NetLib and sockets along the way) - each chapter builds on the previous and introduces new concepts in comprehensible portions.Read more

In favor of truth in advertising
Mr. Torrone, in his 11/15/02 review of this book (below), presents himself as if in error, complicitous (with Amazon), or simply self-serving, as his assertion that "Amazon has a special ..." is 100% FALSE. NO "special"; rather, merely two books bundled together with no savings over separate purchasing. In addition, Mr. Torrone conveniently fails to mention the fact that *Flash Enabled* is authored by Mr. Torrone himself. In error? Complicitous? Self-serving? You be the judge.

Excellent book
After reading this book, I was VERY happy to have spent the money to pick this one up! Dare I give this book less than 5 stars?!!
This book is well written, and the author knows what he's talking about. However, I found he repeats things and often complicates simple things. After reading the chapter about PocketPC Flash technology I found it offered no more information than the Macromedia SDK (free on their website). He does offer some additional advice on PPC game development such as color and art optimization; common sense to most Flash developers. The book attemps to explain how to program a complete game in ActionScript, but does not elaborate on the details of ActionScript (ie: mentions the use of arrays, but doesn't explain their complex charictaristics). If your looking to learn ActionScript, this is not the book. Overall, this book has the advantage of being one of the first in it's catagory. ... Read more

How do I do everything with my Pocket Pc?
Many words - few practical tips! This book did not give much more (-valuable-) information than I already had found out by reading the manual delivered with my pocket computer.
Don't waste your money
This is a good book for those who know how to use a PDA and are experts at reading and writing code.It is not for beginners or those who have never seen Win CE.But if you love computers and techie gadgets, are good with code and like to play with electronic toys, are looking for another techie's love of toys, then you might get something out of it.But if you are inclined in that way you already know this stuff.Don't waste your money.There are other books that do a better job in both areas

Mediocre at best.
I took my initial EMT class with the Brady text... very in-depth and full of information (and about twice the size of this one).
Excellent Reference Manual
This is really a reference textbook for the education of new EMT's, butthe information it contains is complete, concise and extremely up-to-date(important in a field that is changing ALL the time!) Good reference for the EMT

Excellent book to start eVB & ADOCE
This is a great book if you want to start programming eVB and ADOCE.The book walks you through a complete "Pocket Access" Database Manager that you will be able to complete at the end of the book.You will learn everything that is required to create and manage databases, menus, SQL, etc.I gave it just 4 stars because it cover the basics, which is good, but doesn't go deeper in detail.The reading is easy and makes you want to read more. Now that eVB is not supported in the new operating systems (Pocket PC 2003, Win CE .NET) you should go for his other book using Microsoft Server CE.

Rip-off book exploiting a hot topic
Othe 250 pages of this book there may be 30 pages of actual content about doing database programming with eVB. The rest is padding built with incredibly drawn out tutorials on basic SQL.

How fast can you say "Instant Databases" ??
If you are a serious developer, more sooner than later you'll need databases and this book gives you a quick start on how to develop them, with the enclosed examples you get answers on (almost) everything, chapter 7 has a good DB Manager, which is worth the money all by itself. You'll be developing databases, even on the road, quicker than others can prepare instant coffee. Only thing that's missing is a review of Pocket SQL and how to develop networked databases, but for that you can get: Developer's Guide With Microsoft Embedded Visual Basic and you are all set. Both books together cover it all, but this one is the easiest and very comprehensive for all kinds of tasks, don't miss it, it's a two thumbs up. ... Read more

Dont look for much VB code in this book
The set is well organized and it covers a multitude of information. But, the case cover is misleading, this book contains little if any VB code even though the book requirements state that the toolkit for VB is required (youcant read the books because this kit is shrinkwrapped). Stay away VBprogrammers,its a waste, go get larry roof's book instead.

A true must have
This is an excellent book that includes 100 diagnoses in brain imaging. The text is perfectly organized for quick reference and really allows one to rapidly find answers to common questions about the diasease entity ie- key facts, CT/MRI/PET/DWI imaging features, pathology, ddx, clinical features. PERFECT! A very valuable book for interns, residents and fellows who at times find themselves in quick need of a short imaging synopsis of a disease process ie- at the viewbox or on the wards. Outstanding book
This is an excellent review of the important brain diagnoses.Great job with getting all important info in one small package.This is certainly one of the best general review books ever written for neuro.all radiology, neuro and neurosurgery departments should have a copy of this book around.and at a great price! much less than giant hardback books, that are harder to find relevent information quickly in!

THE PALMS HAVE IT!!
Are you a Palm user from the days when the Pilot first got its wings or are completely new to the Palm family? If you are, then this book is for you! Author Scott MacHaffie, has done an outstanding job of writing a book about how to get more out of your Palm device, whether it is a PDA or a smartphone.

Good Info. Out of Date
I just purchased a Palm m515 and ordered this book as a help to get me started. The book covers a lot of information, but is for older models of PDAs. It is out of date. So if your looking for material for a new model PDA, look for a newer edition book.

First 300 pages are no better than Palm's documentation
The first half of the book cover many generalities and obvious points, most of which could be read from your Palm's manuals. It also covers many models, so you may not be sure exactly what applies to your toy. Chris Seibold MyMac.com Book Review

A very simple introduction to the Treo 600 and a bit of the 650
Sprint, at least, offers a thick, albeit electronic (PDF), user manual for the Treo 600 and 650. Granted it is terse and obviously intended for the user who has some understanding of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA).
TREO Fan Book - Your Brain on Silicon
The description of this book is both vague and misleading in that it only addresses the Treo 600 and products which have since been relaced on the market with the Treo 650 and Treo 700w.

Great starter book
This book was really helpful when I was first getting up to speed on Embedded Visual Basic development.The chapter discussing what could be done in VB but not in EVB was very useful.The samples in the book are useful. Great eVB coverage!
I really enjoyed reading this well-written book on eMbedded Visual Basic.I particularly liked the chapter on SQL Server CE.The reader is well-served by the clear implementation of a complicated feature like SQL Server Replication.The author leaves no stone unturned in his coverage of POOM development.This book is a must-read! ... Almost useless
I won a PocketPC recently, which I have fallen in love with. The first day I had it, I looked at a few books and chose this one. Inside the cover, it had a date of 2001, not 2000, so it seemed newer than most of the other books I found. Apparently, 2001 is a reprint date, as the majority of the info is old and useless. Your Pocket PC likely did not come with adequate information about how to use it, whether in print or on the CD-ROM.This book comes to the rescue.Unlike the other Pocket PC book I bought ("How to Do Everything with Pocket PC and Handheld PC"), this book is written expressly for the Pocket PC and the author never mistakenly uses the technically correct but politically incorrect "WinCE" name.This shows he knows who his audience is. This is not your typical 'for Dummies' book that is filled with fluff, but rather an excellent in-depth guide to using Pocket PCs. The author not only provides an intelligent introduction to handhelds, but also fills his book with countless valuable tips on getting the most out of the Pocket PC platform. Great basic pocket reference
Overall this is a great pocket reference for a new to intermediate PC technician working towards A+ (so therefore does exactly what it says!).
A Musta Have!
I have to say that McGraw-Hill Osborne make the BEST technology related books in the world. The "Complete Reference" series has always been a favorite of mine, and the "All in One Guide" series is top of the line for thurough, comprehnesive learning and reference. Thier authors know thier stuff and have a way of creating easy-to-read, fun, and incredibly complete books for those of us who want to "know it all" (the why's as well as the hows). But what about those times when you just need a quick reference? Something to jog your memory, or perhaps a more condensed source that is more fit as a study guide... well that's what the A+ Pocket Reference is, and in typical McGraw-Hill Osborne form, it's been done to the highest of standards!
