Great web design book
This book is an analisys from a designer's point of view of the cssZenGarden.com project, which is a beautiful project on itself.
Css is not only about limits
As the web developer in our company I often hear our graphical designers asking me what IS possible with CSS. Well this book gives you a good idea. It is not really about learning CSS but at least it gives a good idea about all the possibilities. Each time I get stuck in the limits of CSS, I get back to this book.....

MUCH More Design than CSS
If you are a programmer that knows nothing about graphic design, this book is pretty nice.It is about 70% focused on how to do graphic design, and about %30 about CSS.Otherwise, if you want to learn CSS this isnt the best book.

useful introduction to SAS
[A review of the 3rd Edition.]
Review of The Little SAS Book
The book gives good down to earth instructions on using SAS. It does not get bogged down with the technical aspects of SAS or even programming in general. A book on driving, for example, may tell you how an internal combustion engine works when all you want to know is how to start the thing. So it is with this book. It gets you started and it gets you moving quickly so that within an hour or so you can do some pretty fancy stuff. But it also explains a lot, such as what a SAS file really is. The only drawback I have is a lack of relevant examples. There are many good examples, don't get me wrong, but there are too many times when the explanation is not followed by an example and it always seems to be the case that that is what I needed to see. Also, many examples are shown in a vacuum. For instance, there are many good examples embedded with the code around it, but then there are the examples that show you how to write the instruction for something, but it is not shown in context, it is simply a line on a page. Perhaps there just isn't room for it all, but it would always be helpful to see where all of this falls relative to the procedure or step you are in.Never-the-less, I love this book, it's great. I have put away all of my other SAS volumes and keep only this book in my desk, it's really all I need.

For making managers remember what really matters
This book is full of information of things that current managers have forgotten. Every new project is wanted done with less money, less time and with higher quality than old projects, putting a lot of pressure to the project team. Managers do things that they believe is good for the project but actually damages the project (and the company) at long term. I have seen many co-workers leave my company for issues like the ones described in this book. Managers and company owners: Please read it!!!

good for beginners
It is a very good guide book for beginners really. I knew maybe just a little about Mac. But definitely not enough to help me go though a smooth work process. This book teaches me shortcuts and the necessary surviving skills I needed. I would recommend to other people.

Pretty Good Tutorial
Having switched from a PC a year ago and having suffered through 12 months with no manual, it is a relief to have it. It is written in plain English, very basic intro to Tiger OS X and should absolutely have been provided to customers free with the computer. Apple is too cute in assuming everyone, of course, is intuitive about "getting" its system. If you've spent much time in PC land it is a huge transition. This book is great because it assumes no knowledge and provides basic definitions. I also bought another "Missing Manual" for iPhoto and that was helpful, as well.

Adobe Illustrator CS2 Classroom in a Book
What is it about the Classroom in a Book series that I devour like ice cream in the middle of August in Texas? It has to do with the richness of the presentation, the simplicity of design and the total coverage of material that you don't get in the box with the CD, or more importantly buy direct online and dont have a manual.

Very well written
I liked this book because it does a great job explaining the concepts and the reasoning behind the mathematical formulae. Other books such as "The Elements of Statistical Learning" toss the Math formulas at you and expect you to figure out the significance or the importance of 'em. The book does not shy away from Math - but does a great job presenting it.

Excellent introduction to top machine learning techniques
Duda's 'Pattern Classification' is an excellent book for an introduction to a range of the most powerful and popular machine learning methods. Obviously it doesn't go into very many details of each method - being just one book - but it covers the most important things to know imo. Not quite the 20% that covers 80% of the needs, but close. It is well written and the illustrations are generally of high quality. If you don't want to drown in a nightmare of details and exceptions, but rather get a good basic understanding of the various techniques, this book is an excellent buy.

A good introduction to pattern recognition, but not a bible.
[1] This book is good as an introduction to Pattern Recognition, at undergraduate level (compared with the level of Fukunaga's -Introduction to Statistical Pattern Recognition-).

A comprehensive resource - but not for the novice
Truly Matt Pharr and NVIDIA are at the top of their game, and his "GPU Gems" series is certainly the only one of its kind for graphics professionals that are familiar with GPU's and shading languages already, and want to exploit them for the maximum speed and effect achievable using today's technology. It is not a "how-to" book on shading or GPUs or even advanced graphics. There are equations and code interspersed throughout the book, with bits of wisdom that are very instructive for the initiated. However, if you are a home-grown graphics programmer who knows C, or C++, or Java, and even some assembly language, plus you are familiar with image processing and computer graphics techniques, that will probably not be enough to get you through this book. I would say that this is a five star book for high-level professional graphics programmers who work with GPU specifics and shaders daily, and I would say it is a two or three star book for everyone else.
Excellent Second Book in the GPU Gems Series
This book is the second installment of the GPU Gems book series by NVIDIA. Just like the first book, GPU Gems 2 is a collection of articles by various authors from game development companies, academia, and tool developers on advanced techniques for programming graphics processing units (or GPUs for short). It is aimed at intermediate to advanced graphics developers that are familiar with the most common graphics APIs. The reader should also be proficient in C++. As with the first GPU Gems book, GPU Gems 2 is not for beginners. For professional graphics and game developers, however, it is an excellent collection of interesting techniques, tips, and tricks.
Pretty pictures
This book is targeted at people who have a good solid grasp of either OpenGL or D3D as well as a grounding in programming languages such as C/C++ or Java.While this much is obvious, the book is still painfully difficult to get anything useful out of.

Good Head Start
These Step by Step books are used at most community colleges to teach students how to use various MS applications.If you are self-directed, it can save you the class cost.It is also a great way to teach yourself an application.
A Must Have Reference if you Deal with Project Management at any Level using MS Project
The best reference out there to learn everything you can do with MS Project 2003. This book is packet with useful information, laid out in a clear and readable language, with many illustrations and examples, and a CD-ROM loaded with practice Project files. The 23 chapters in the book deal with everything related with project management: From creating a task list, setting up resources, and assigning resources to tasks,... to measuring performance, tracking progress, and managing risks.
Very thorough introduction to Project
Among what real managers are likely to face, there cannot be many harder projects to plan and track than the shooting of a film. It's a really good idea that this book uses a short movie's shooting schedule as the model project for all its exercises and illustrations.

Yawning Hell
Is this the world's most boring book ?Technically competent but painfully dry. A gift too insomniacs. Good luck on getting past page 1 !

Only Buy if Required for a Class
Very boring reading.Chapters tend to repeat themselves.The class I had for this book was one of the most boring classes I ever had.Instructor lectured from power point slides.I could have taken this class homestudy and done just fine, than to sit in class.

Caution: Will Cause Drowsiness.
This book is simply horrible. It takes the stereotypical accountant and shoves him into the pages. It is so lethargic and monotonous that all the valuable information within the book just stops making sense. This book should be read by anyone who has doubts about becoming an accountant. Do you need to edit and organize your photos? If you do, then this book is for you. Author Barbara Brundage, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that is intended to make learning Elements easier by avoiding technical jargon as much as possible, and explaining why and when you'll want to use certain features in the program.

Comprehensive and with depth
Well, I wrote about 10 reviews on trading books so far, so that should clear off some doubts of the previous reviewer.
You've got to wonder
Every reviewer rates this an exceptional book and every reviewer has only rated one book, this one. Isn't that strange (rhetorical question). I read a great many reviews of trading books; go to a book by Elder or one of the other market gurus and you'll find reviewers who have read and reviewed scads of trading books. There's of course no way for me to know, but maybe the author's real talent is writing trading book reviews.

A great book to learn MS Project 2003 AND scheduling techniques
I purchased this book as part of the "Microsoft Office Project 2003 Orange Belt Self Study Package" from IIL (Institute for International Learning). For those who understand the basic concepts of project management, the book is extremely educational as it will teach you the basics of MS Project, as well as various project scheduling techniques that you may not have been aware of.
Reveals Many MSP Issues-but Not for Beginners
This book will not teach you how to perform 'work planning' (or scheduling) and it will not teach you the basics of how to use MS Project.I have at least 5 thick books that do that, and I consider most of them useless.I have been managing IT projects since the 1980s, and have used MS Project (MSP) since the early 1990s. I have spent many late hours struggling with its confusing and misleading and Poorly documented) functions that do not always do what you expect (or the help/manual says)it will do.I particulary dislike it's seemingly random choice to recalc a critical path, and changes dates and durations based only on resources.In June, my team (an experienced set of IT project managers)took advanced MS Project training from the "International Institute for Learning". All 15 people who attended the training said it was the best MS project training they had ever had!

Excellent book for just about any level programmer looking to do ASP.NET the right way
I'd like to give Marco a personal thank you for writing the lastest book with the beer house sample. I have learned quite a lot, compared to other .net books. The concepts in this book work quite a bit better than the standard asp.net 2.0 books, where they discuss everything ASP.NET capable of, but give no real world implementation or design pattern. I have purchased 7 books on asp.net 2.0 alone, and wasted quite a bit of time reading through them. This book has given me more concrete knowledge and help building real applications for businesses than I ever could have found in the others.
Great book
This is a fantastic book. The layout of each chapter and the book in it's entirety is exceptional. It doesn't go into too much details about specific content but rather gives the reader a greater appreciation for the website development process.

Excellent - Puts it all together
This book presents by far the best sample site/case study available for ASP.NET 2.0.Most/all of the primary ASP.NET 2.0 features are utilized.Unlike with the minimalist Microsoft sample apps, design alternatives and decisions are thoroughly explained.

Needed to do some Refresher Training
I have experience in HTML and CSS; however, I had not dealt with them in some time (five years or so). I needed to find a book that would get to the basics, yet at the same time NOT be so exhaustive that I would find myself dozing. Can anyone blame me for not wanting to be bored to death by wordy descriptions?
very good book
this is a very good book for beginners.TSTC Waco is using it for the intro class in the webmaster 2 year degree program. Covers HTML , XHTML, AND CSS STYLE SHEETS in detail. A lot of screen shots showing what the code should look like.Which, for a beginner is VERY IMPORTANT! If you do not know the code how else would you know that you got it right if something small is wrong.The only fault I have with the book compared to my first HTML book is there is not a quick reference card printed on the back cover.This is a minor thing but is handy for quick review.

Great Learning Tool for the non-technical
This is a true learner's guide to building standards-based Web pages.It includes a lot of information on common HTML and CSS traps and pitfalls as well as why common conceptions about style are often wrong.To help the reader actually learn the material in a fun and friendly manner it includes a lot of puzzles and exercises and other material that make it a joy to learn.This is truly a guide for the non-programmer that will have them quickly up to speed on how to design and build a web site.One of the virtues of this particular book is that the authors relate common problems and frustrations of users and how to avoid them in your website.

Dont buy from amazon
Attn all students! Amazon promises to send books by a specific date then changes the dates without your consent. Trying to get a refund is a nightmare. Be prepared to get stuck without the book and still get the bill. Customer service is outsourced to India and is no help even if you could understand them. 4 wks and counting and still no promised refund. This not the only time this has happened.The issue is not with the seller it is Amazon.

I had this for my business law class and it was excellent! It is easy to read, the cases are interesting and the format is one of the best for a textbook!
