4-0 out of 5 stars Don't look for the soup of the day in the format menu
Once again, Tennant has given us a book with no introduction, afterword, or anything except various strips of _The Fifth Wave_, the cartoon best known for its appearances in various For Dummies books. While some will be familiar to readers of the series, this book contains 126 strips, enough to provide fresh material to most readers.4-0 out of 5 stars Technology humor similar to that of the "Far-Side"

5-0 out of 5 stars For computer geeks only, but in that niche excellent
You have to be a computer geek to understand the humor. If you are, and especially if you have a unix/linux background and/or have worked with internet or other computer support you will find this one of the most hysterical comics around.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best in Tech Geek Humour Possible
Really captures the spirit of the geek world and offers up some original and insightful humour ; other reviews say that it is just Mircrosoft hate propoganda but it is is well knows this strip is heavily read in the corridors of Redmond !! and it is all taken in the humourous sense in which it is meant

4-0 out of 5 stars About 315 strips from 1998: Dilbert for techies
This collection suffers from occasional editing problems, such as uncorrected spelling errors and page layout issues, where a Sunday double strip appears just before a sequence it sets up (or just after some build-up *it* needed). Out of the 315 strips, naturally, 45 are Sunday doubles, which as time goes on include odd-sized single frame pieces, such as the techie nutrition pyramid (think salt and caffeine).

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply a Classic
I remember reading the actual diary entries as they appeared ont the Internet back in 1998. Then one day they website went offline and luckily the book was published. I bought it and have a good laugh every now and then. I've even considered writing a similar daily parody for our President Mbeki, who is one of the most eccentric people on the planet. This book is for everyone and anyone who's always wondered what it's like to be Bill Gates!

4-0 out of 5 stars Bill G -- Hype or Fiction?
This is a hilarious send up of Bill Gates written as a fake diary. What originally started as a humorous website turned into an excellent book.Read about Gates obsession with the his money, his IQ and, believe it or not, the Spice Girls. This book is a hoot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Having Fun with Old-School Computing
This book, the first of several from Tennant, was published in 1992, so it deals with a lot of computing issues before the widespread onset of Windows the WWW.I hadn't yet tapped into my inner geek at that time, but for admins and others who fondly remember the days of LANs, early network maintenance, "killer apps" and a host of other topics, this is for you.You can do a lot with one panel of comic space.Great for one-off photocopies to post up on the outside of your server, etc. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the zaniest sites you'll ever see
Want to locate the Internet's strangest stores? Jut turn to Dan Crowley's 505 Weirdest Online Stores: 505 Things You Never Knew You Could Buy Online. From a DVD of teddy bear violence to a Kilt Store and an International Banana Club and Museum, here are some of the zaniest sites you'll ever see, online or off. Web addresses and a synopsis of offerings and oddities make for lively leisure browsing even for avid computer browsers.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Childhood Goat Trauma Foundation, And Much More!
This is a wonderful book for those who like laughing at the excesses of the Internet. Many of the sites in this book are designed to be laughed at ("Naked Dancing Llama"), but, disturbingly, many are not ("Villisca Axe Murderers"). The scope of the book is quite comprehensive and everyone I have shared the book with has been simultaneously mortified and amused. Some of my favorite sites from the book are "Bob Barker Prison Supplies," "Ornithopter Zone," "Texas Bigfoot Research Center," "Pole Vault World," and of course "Air Sickness Bags," a site for collectors of (what else?) airsickness bags (www.airsicknessbags.com.) Really.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, timely and practical too
Another superb book by Gtz. Although the title is a tad dry and does not suggest that the book will appeal to the same wide audience as Type for the Internet, in fact `Grids'is just as fascinating and timely. Gotz describes how websites (and other browser-read creations) should be laid out for maximum effectiveness. Her analysis is practical and how-to, leading from the apparently obvious problem of landscape layout , the limits of legibility on screen, to the more elaborate problems of dynamic and interactive pages. But the very practicality of Gotz's approach, and her sharp focus, only make it doubly clear how our whole philosophic engagement with information is radically changed by the new technologies.Gotz does not resist the temptation to point at some of the larger issues by truffling her boook withwitty quotations and maxims from the great savants, all presented with a layout full of panache. ... I've already passed the middle of the book and it's basically another Photoshop book. I knew that photo editing would be a part of the book but not the whole thing. Genevieve Stamper is by far the funniest and most entertaining person I have had the pleasure to read.AT first, I bought this book for my little brother, but I started reading it and I couldn't stop! I COULD NOT STOP! I was reading until late late at night, like until 3:00 am in themorning. It was so easy to deliver these jokes to my little brother thatI had him up all night too.Sometimes, now when I'm sitting at my desk atwork, I think of these jokes and just start cracking up. When I'm sad,all I have to do is pull it off my shelf.Thank you Genevieve Stamper foryour wonderful book, it has certainly lightened my life considerably and Irecommend it with my whole heart to all those out there who love to laugh, need to laugh, or are just fascinted by today's technology.Wit,intellegence, and goofiness all in one!

I teach computers in high school and can relate to the cartoons in this book. In fact, I use a few of them on my inter school memos. They're attention grabbers. The cartoons are funny and each has a nugget of truth in it which any teacher can recognize.5-0 out of 5 stars Hi Tech Hi Laughs
There's some funny stuff in this book! I teach computers in a public school and the situations portrayed in this adorable volume seem familiar, with a humorous twist. These cartoons are professionally sketched and make wonderful intro pieces for our school's in-service courses where our staff can upgrade their computer skills.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but could have been better
It is a good book, for beginners though. But it could have been so much funnier; also, there is some information which I think useless, it should be more specific in the sense of using real messages young people (the age group that sends most of the messages nowadays)send. However, it is a good book if you want to know about sms in a very general way.

If I'd had this book before I sold my car, I wouldn't have had my identity stolen.Author John Q gives an overview of identity thieves that lets you know what areas you need to look out for. Also gives you information on the tedious follow up while you try to repair the damage done--who to contact, what to say or write. This is a real good book for the average person who is just trying to protect their privacy. I hope Loompanics has him write more on this subject.I checked with them, but although there is more in the way of privacy books, no other identity theft books come close to this for clear, concise information.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for a quick Glance
This book very informative in dealing with the identity theft that is present in the US which is what I was interested in. However, I did noticed it was lacking in content when dealing with other countries. For this one needs to apply previous knowledge of local systems to understand what Newman is describing. For anyone interested in Identity theft I recomend this for a once over lightly te get a quich understanding on a large topic. This book is suitable for the general public who may know very little about this crime. However, there really is no new information to be gleaned from the book. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars An OK Compilation of Material on the Web.
David has done a good job of compiling material here, but most of what you'll read you'll get the feeling you've read before...and you probably have.5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Will Make You Feel Like A Genius Around Computers!
I love doing site visits to companies . . . and my favorite part is talking to the people who operate the help lines.First, I like to see how busy they are.If no one is there and they have nothing to do, I assumethat they are doing a great job (or the phone lines are disconnected).Ifthere are lots of people and they are busy, I wonder what's the fuss. Second, I like to find out what these people find funny about their jobs. Over the years, I have heard some terrifically funny stories about phonecalls that have come in.But nothing I heard in all these site visitscompared to the stories in this book.5-0 out of 5 stars hilarious
If this book doen't make you laugh, check your pulse...you're probably dead. This is no surprise to those of us familiar with Mr. Pogue's own books. Anything he writes is hilarious, informative & great. Naturally, anything he edits is great. I have planned to give this little jewel withevery holiday gift. Eileen Siralewker@aol.com ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Really bad book
This is the worst book i've read almost on any subject especially on geeks, first off you can read it in 20 minutes, it has almost no text in it, the size of the margins along with text size gives you from 5-8 words per line with an average of 13 lines per page (did i mention the images?) and 110 pages! (just for kicks check your favorite book and compare)4-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and helpful
Just found this book and it's still current! This woman must have dated or known many a fine geek. Very cute and actually quite helpful in learning how to approach a partner who's more interested in online gaming than getting some fresh air (uh, that would be my Significant Other). I loved the tips on how to help your geek eat better, handle stress, etc. Recommended!!

1-0 out of 5 stars A very limited book
I bought this book because of the excellent references I saw, it took me one day to read it from the beggining to the end, but the book lacks of perspective. Sometimes the writer makes reference of a geek as "she" and jumps in the next sentence to a "he" (or vice versa) without a clearly reason to do this.Read more
