5-0 out of 5 stars Wicked Tongue-in-cheek Humor on the Y2K Bungle
This text is described as a parody about the biggest technology blunder in history and it successfully achieves that title. Written to be understandable and funny to readers ages 15 to 95, it provides a wickedlyrevealing look at the Year 2000 Crisis from new and traditionalperspectives. Those who are technology savants will savor every singlepage. For persons who heretofore have remained blissfully ignorant of theimpact (both real and imagined) of the Millenium Bug, this book helpsexplain what the fuss is all about. Full of relevant (and irreverent)quotes and clever cartoons, Mr. de Jager's insights make for a delightfulread. Expect to find yourself laughing out loud...in yourworkplace...saying, "I've heard that! As a matter of fact, our ITpeople have said that!" Having read and reread the book, I now amequipped to intelligently laugh or cry about Y2K, depending on my audienceof the moment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Even the Marginally-Funny Ones Strike Home
As with Gary Larson (The Far Side) or Dan Piraro (Bizarro), Peter's sense of humour owes a lot to the pun ... and a good pun is its own reword. Some of the pictures aren't as funny as others, but every one strikes home.Overall, a collection that subversively deals with the ethics of what wedo; "yes, it is our own fault", and "yes, we must own up anddo something about it". Probably one of the few works published thisyear that makes you feel good about abandoning the "victimmentality". Recommended as suitable to anyone who finds the system"grating" on them, for the hope it brings.

5-0 out of 5 stars What's so funny about the end of the world as we know it?
Well, for one thing, it happens everyday. Repeatedly.Only in really small increments. That's life! But if you have been mired in this little man-made problem (yes, all programmers used to be males, so the women areinnocent on this one) (yes, I know that is not true, e.g. Grace MurrayHopper # 3 programmer on the Mark 1, circa. 1944, but this politicallycorrect thing is going to turn out to be a bigger blunder than 6-digitdates) ... where was I?... If you have been mired in the millennium-madeproject for what seems like an eternity, it's time to come up for air, likein HA HA!Ever wondered what Shakespear, Marty Allen, Ogden Nash, OscarWilde, George Burns, Richard Nixon, Winston Churchill, and Will Rogers hadin common?Ya, I'm sure you have.Well, along with several others, theyall made comments about the year 2000 frenzy "before its time." 5-0 out of 5 stars There's a plot!
The concept of reading a book of email between two friends may seem dry, but there's actually a plot hidden in this: becoming a grown-up thirtysomething, with marriage, life, etc. impending, that sort of sneaksup on you in the end. I rather think that future anthropologists may readthis a hundred years from now when they want to find out what it was likeat the dawn of the email era, or at least twenty years from now we canre-read it to remember what the 90s were like. Cute, clever, occasionallyprofane and puerile, but that only adds to its charm.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining.
E-Male was an entertaining book about the electronic correspondence of two friends.Having shared the same apartment in the past, two best friends now find themselves states apart. They correspond though witty and honestdaily e-mails invoking humorous past incidents and funny narratives.Mostof the e-mails are about their horrendous jobs or their acclamation tomarried life. Most of them are fun and provide a good glimpse into thelives of these two down to earth people. All of the e-mails end with what"rules" and what "sucks" on that particular day, which is often humorous. My only complaint would be the somewhat repetitive nature of their e-mails. All told, it is a fun read.

5-0 out of 5 stars What an idea!
I was hesitant at first to read a book about males only, however it so insiteful. It is rare that we females get such a glimpse into their private lives. It was so funny and creative. It makes you want hang outwith them on a daily basis.A definite must read for all readers!Youwill laugh, cry, and be totally engrossed! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Computer Wisdom in a humorous disguise
If you are a novice in the arkana of programming, this book will make your delight while enlightening you in the best practices and the philosophy of Computer Science and creativity. But to truly appreciate the wisdom contained herein, you must be a computer Wizard or Guru. Only then will you really enjoy the invaluable wisdom and humour distilled in these short aphorisms.4-0 out of 5 stars The risks which can be named are not the true risks
While slightly weaker than the first two books in this set, "The Tao of Programming," and "The Zen of Programming," this volume is strongly recommended for new software project leads and project managers, and for managers and executives who are trying to understand how (and why) software is built the way that it is built.5-0 out of 5 stars As good as the others
Similar to _The Tao of Programming_ and _The Zen of Programming_ by James, in that it's funny, but also tremendously insightful.Like most very funny things, the parables in this book have a grain of truth that would be hardto convey in any other way.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very, very clever...
I don't think anyone is safe from Tony Hendra's pen - I particularlyenjoyed his definitions relating to Al Gore and George W. Bush.I can'tbelieve the late night comics never figured out that the real definitionfor "internet" is a "young female intern."Hisdefinition of the "help menus" within Windows is a riot -something about the layers upon layers upon layers of menus that doabsolutely NOTHING to actually "help" you.Bill Gates, are youlistening?5-0 out of 5 stars Get Ready to Giggle !

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Read for Web Wanderers!
This little tome is exactly as promised. Imagine the hours (days? nights?) this crazy woman must have spent prowling the dregs of the World Wide Web in order to find these gems. I'll admit to not having counted them, but even if there are only 500 instead of 501, it's worth your time to flip through and find your heart's desire. (My favorite: Derek's Big Web Site of WalMart Purchase Receipts!)The only downside? The author didn't include an e-mail address where we can send her all the other favorites she missed (for the second edition which is sure to come). But, the publisher has listed their's. I guess that is where I'll start... ... Read more

Editorial Review

This is one of the freshest and funniest looks at life in cyberspace yet. It offers many giggles as the narrator--Zeek, an intelligent piece of software created by the largely anonymous "Bill G.," richest geek in the world--searches cyberspace for the meaning of life--or at least what it is that makes geeks what they are. The result is a way to assess your own GQ (Geek Quotient). Meanwhile, Bill G. is making notes in his super-secret journal and being abducted by aliens who want him to help them create a software monopoly of their own. Along the way you'll visit the Geek Hall of Fame, learn GeekSpeak, and figure out if you're in Geek Denial. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend
A hip, hilarious story about Bill Gates and his wayward software creation, code-named Zeke Geek, who escapes from Bill's control and sets off to explore the Internet in a quest for the meaning of geekdom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend
The only people who won't like this book are fans of Bill Gates. The most dead-on book about geek culture so far.

1-0 out of 5 stars Extremely disappointing.
Like a previous reviewer wrote, not one laugh in the book.Unfunny, immature, un-clever, and practically unreadable due to the typeface selection. What the heck was the "Geek IQ units" about... that went nowhere. Drawings were also incredible ugly. A complete waste of my money, I'm trying not to remember this book. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I would like to admit
that I did not actually buy this book.I looked at the cover (you can see it above) and said to myself "God, it must get funnier than that".Guess what? It didn't.Read the lame comic on the cover right now.Did youlaugh? Was it funny in anyway? Didn't think so. That was the best jokeof the whole book.If you don't trust me just ask yourself if you believethat an editor would choose to put a lame comic on the COVER rather than afunny one (in order to "hook" the consumer). That sad truth isthat that is the best Judd has to offer.Your money can be better spentelsewhere on this site.

1-0 out of 5 stars In case you didn't notice...
...I read this strip book and found it boring... It is not "witty"... "Thinking man's comic"?!? Please... For those of you who don't know, this book is full of those stupid cartoons yousee in the "Idiot's guide to" books... If that's your idea of"witty" or "intelligent humor" then buy this bookotherwise save your hard earned $$....

4-0 out of 5 stars A Lot Of Fun
I read this book on a flight to Chicago and it was a lot of fun.Judd's humor is dead-on when it comes to the absurdity of the modern day workplace (and society of that matter). While this book is just "quickie"one panel strips, they are extremly funny.People who find strips likeDilbert, the Far Side and Bloom County will want to check this book out. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Wired Rewired
"Wired" is sort of a krackerjack name to begin with, so I didn't think it'd be too darn hard to make a parody of the pop magazine. It's a good book, but, then again, it has it's flaws like a new computer has error messages. It's not as good as Martha Stuart's Better Than You at Entertaining, but it'll do if you are a technofreak, like myself..

4-0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as effective a parody as Wired itself
Some of this book is indeed funny -- but I have to admitthat Wired itself is often more full of (unintentional)howlers than _Rewired_. If you consider yourself a member of the digerati, you will probably want to have a copy of this book on your living room java-table anyway... or just go out and get the next issue of Wired and laugh just as much. ...
