Pay more to get less
I passed my certification exam about an hour ago with a score of 768/900 (655 required to pass).I'm not an IT professional; I was mostly interested in learning more about the Internet and showing it on a resume.Passing this test for me was more attributable to the study guide available at the link mentioned in glitteringolga's review (thank you very much for that by the way) and to looking up topics on my own.Read more

Not bad...
This book could be a little more in-depth, especially in the HTML department.For myself it was more than adequate since I just needed to brush up on a few minor things before taking the test.If you have your A+ or especially Network+ then this should be more than you'll need to pass.Yes there is an error or two here or there.However, the FTP error that everyone is talking about is technically not an error.Notice that in the table it says port 20 is FTP data transfer, which if you reference iana.org, you'll see is correct.Port 21 is for FTP control.A little misleading perhaps, but not technically incorrect.

Be careful
I used three different books to study for the exam, and this was easily the least helpful.It was helpful in that it had information that was not in the other two books I used, but it also has some very obvious errors on many topics--information that is just simply wrong. After seeing so many mistakes, I found it hard to see the book as a credible source, and I began to wonder if there were mistakes which I hadn't caught (and which might come back to haunt me on the exam).Make sure that you have other study materials, such as the Exam Prep book.

Though old, it still assisted
I wrote and past the i-Net+ (1K0-002) today (Mar-5-2004). This book contributed 60% of the content. Good Overall Review Book

Too much info -- CD is full of junk.
Don't get me wrong -- this book while decent, just seemed to get off track and didnt in my opinion FOCUS on the exam topics. While some have said good things about the cd -- i think it is full of useless stuff, and the exam questions where an afterthought, as compared to what is actually on the exam.

Very basic info
I received this book on Tues and just took the test and passed 3 days after. The book has very basic info for those of us in the industry, however it does cover the exam questions (or about 90% of them). This book has very little reference material, so buy it used.

Great! Helped Me to Pass the Exam!
I found the reading good and the CD very helpful. While the interface on the CD isn't the best, it got the job done. Be prepared to reread some of the examples to gain a better understanding, but overall, I recommend this book to potential webmasters. ... Read more

Excellent book for learning the i-Net+ material
I bought this book a while back and let it sit for quite some time before I finally dug into it. Unfortunately, when I went to schedule my exam (I was 3 chapters from the end of the book) I found out that the test objectives were slightly altered(to reflect changes in technology). Fortunately, I found a 25 page study guide on the internet that gave an overview of the new objectives for the new exam(IKO-002). A lot of information, but too dry to read
There are not too many study guides for you if you are working on the i-net+ exam. Most of you probably get the one from Sybex and the Exam Prep. Both of these are just average quality compared to A+, Net+, CCNA, or MCSE study guides published by those two companies. I used both of the study guides to prepare for my i-net+ exam. This book covers more than the Sybex one, other than the fact that this book is too dry for people to read. I did not read that from cover to cover, instead, I did the practice tests, chapter tests, and tests from the Sybex book, and found the explainations and definitions from this book if I answered wrong. Overall, this book has a lot of information but it's just hard for the reader to digest.

Colossal disappointment
Just far too many typo errors to list, so much so that the authors seemed to have confused themselves. One blatant example is the question 7 at the end of Chapter 1 - Which Internet consortium would you suggest a change or RFC for other board members to comment and vote on for standardizations? Buyer, Beware!
Supposedly, this book contained a CD that allowed you to access and become part of an online study group, which is the main reason I bought the book. Forget it, I had problem logging into the server, requested help from the support staff,whose web site promises superlative tech support,and haven't heard from them for over a week. Still can't access my VIRTUAL STUDY GROUP, THAT THE BOOK'S COVER PROMISES. Too late for me, I am returning this book to my local bookseller, because the content leaves alot to be desired, also. Very dry, poorly organized, nothing like the All-In- One Network + Certification book by Mike Meyers, which is the best network book I have ever read. Mike, can you write an I-Net book for the hungry minds out there?

Not a study guide
This book contains only questions with short explanations for the answers.While this might work well as a second book, it can't serve as the core study guide for the i-Net+ exam.In looking over the book's description, I still can't find anything to indicate that this is the case, so be warned.The book also doesn't include a CD, which I usually find to be extremely useful. ... Nothing like the real test...
this book simply does not model the actual test even one bit. Like everyone else says, the questions are too redundant and the same idea could be reduced to a couple of lines. This book has detailed questions about scripting (which isn't on the test) and it had other questions like how to log on to an IBM mainframe and some other stuff like that (also not on the test). It did, although, do a good job of explaining, and if you could answer about 60% of the questions, you will pass. The questions on the I-net+ are mostly 1-liners, so this book did not help that much in preparation. But if you wanna test yourself with the deepest and most complex questions imaginable for this topic (up to 1 1/2 pages i think, addressing complex scenarios), then get this book.

An adequate supplement to study for exam
Many of the question are worded way too long compared to the actual exam. Does provide some helpful study information while some errors were seen with the answers.

Room for improvement

For a lot of professionals, the I-net+ will be a "scoop" exam--after all, the Internet's been around for long enough that anyone who works with it on a daily basis probably has a good idea of how it works. These people will want tiny (and cheap) books containing terse writing and a bare minimum of explanation, just to make sure that they've got everything before they go and lock themselves in that tiny, unforgiving room. I wish there was a lower rating!
When you spend money on a study guide you expect to at least cover the basics needed for the test.You do not get it here.A lot of the material on the test was not covered here, unless you count a website address.Sorry, but for this money I expect the book to cover it and any links to be for more in depth information.For example the book did not even cover the basic html in enough depth to have answered 1/2 of the questions I had on my exam (I passed, but only because I was only also studying Network+ at the same time).Save your money!

Not worth your time.
This book was useless (even with its sister books). The book I purchased for the Network+ had more info relevent to the test (and that wasn't much). I did manage to pass the test, but only from previous experinces and sheerluck. Strongly recommend you look elsewhere

All You Need To Pass The Exam
This is the only book that you need to read to get your i-Net+ Certification from CompTIA. The CD-ROM contains almost the exact questions that are on the exam itself. About a quarter of this stuff is a reprise ofwhat was found in the Network+ Study Guide by the same author, but it goeson to detail areas such as types of servers, e-commerce, security, andtopics not covered on the Network_ exam. Publishing fodder
This book respresents the worst of the certification craze - publishers trying to fill gaps in revenue opportunity rather than gaps in knowledge. The book is verbose without soul.This book reads like it was written by a pool of writers with, obvious, no first hand knowledge of the topic. Chapter 5 on HTML, "Understanding HTML" begins with the topic sentence: "The HyperText Markup Language (or HTML for short) is what makes the Internet graphical." Error Prone
The errors that bothered me the most were those found in the practice test on the cd. Several of them were due to sloppy programming. As soon as I became aware of how many errors there were in the book as well, I never went near it again. Who needs to memorize incorrect info? Look elsewhere for more reliable help.

Too Little, Too Soon
This book will not prepare you for the i-Net+ exam. It was published within a few weeks after the exam itself became available and it shows. Containing many technical errors throughout the book which can cause failure on the exam if relied upon, it does not even address the exam contents. If you rely on this guide alone, be prepared to face many unknowns on the test. The CD accompanying this book has a test engine that does not work properly either.
