ExcellentFirst Read
This is an excellent introductory text book in radiology. It contains excellent images and covers the key fundamentals in radiology. It would be ideal for the PGY1 or PGY2 resident to read through to gain familarity in radiology before moving on to the major reference texts. Very readable book that does not overwhelm the junior resident with needless minutia.

Fundamental of Diagnostic Radiology
This is the single excellent book for Radiology Residents and General Radiologists. Seperate sections on US and NM are the best parts of this book. CT Scan and MRI are dispersed with the General Radiology. If the authors create seperate sections of CT and MRI like US and NM in the next edition, the book will become the only perfect book in General Radiology. This book contains treasure of knowledge for the Radiology residents and racticing General Radiologists.

Concise but not enough for residency.
Not a bad overview of most subjects, but some areas are lacking.The bone trauma subsection is particularly scant, excluding all of the fracture grading schemes.Additionally, while somewhat dedicated to differential generating, you don't really get a feel for what is actually common. ... Read more

Great resource for teachers new to this technology!
Will's book is a great resource for teachers who are interested in introducing blogs etc. into the classroom but who may be intimidated by the technology. His book is easy to read and understand for those of us who are not as technologically advanced as of yet. I believe Will's book will be one of the greatest resources in my classroom in September. I would recommend this book to any teacher who does not want to be left behind by his/her students as technology advances.

Step by Step Book for Beginners
Will Richardson displays great pedagogical style in walking the reader through the steps of seemingly complicated technological tasks.He makes learning about great tech tools for the classroom like blogs, wikis, and rss easy and exciting. He not only tells how to set them up but various ways to use them in the classroom.I had been searching for such a text and now that I've found it, I plan to use it as the main text for my grad student course about educational uses of the Internet.

Lots of missing information and assumptions plague the problems that are found at the end of the chapters. A very difficult book to understand.

Microbiology text,It helped me.
I like this book. Microbiology is very fascinating to me.Parasites, etc are particularly interesting.If you are assigned this book for your Microbiology class, my advice is to read it and know the information.This book was very helpful.
A lot of information....disorganized
I taught a basic undergraduate microbiology class using this text book. The students were mostly pre-nursing so we had a clinical focus. My main problem with the text is it is trying to be all things to all people. It tries to present too much information that is scattered all over the text. Frequently, within chapters, students have to jump back and forth to material presented in other chapters and it simply becomes information overload. In addition, some of the study question, especially the clinically oriented ones, ask the students about areas that haven't been adequately covered in the text or assume knowledge that they don't have as yet. Finally, beware the Powerpoint slide presentations. These are also full of errors and need pretty extensive editing.

for teachers who also need an Internet education
Written for teachers in primary and high school, the book has many suggestions how you can incorporate the Internet in your classroom. It addresses what are probably concerns of many teachers. Who want to use the manifold resources available on the net, and to give their students a good education in these. But some teachers may also lack any formal background in how to do this. Which is basically a generational divide that can be a function of how long you have been a teacher.

Children's dictionary
Excellent buy. I have 4 other dictionaries and this one takes the beating!!
This dictionary is relevant, up to date (does not include too many obsolete definitions) and like another person said, when you need to look up word a good dictionary will give you a clear and precise definition which doesn't give you other words to look up in the process.

Perfect Crash Course on Web-Based Training
If you are new to web-based training, stepping into a new web-based instructional design position, have been teaching or developing web-based training but suspect that there is a better way to do it, or you simply want to establish a solid foundation in building engaging online learning envrionments, this book must be on your shelf.I am a higher education instructional design consultant and I find this book to be an excellent ongoing resource.Not only is it full of specific and practical tips, but the content is organized into dozens of useful tables and charts.Chapter 6, "Activate Learning" is an especially useful chapter, providing lists of potential learning activities and explaining some of the reasons to choose one learning activity over another.
Long on tips. Weak on theory.
This book contains a collection of web design tips which are in the main useful but not earth shattering.Where the book fell down, for me at least, was in the area of theory. It is weak here, and that can be a major problem if you want to conduct a scientific evaluation of the work using the umpteen heuristics suggested by the author.I doubt that there is enough information in the text to adequately help one frame an evaluation of a course, let alone put one together. I've taught HTML and e-commerce at the university level for about a decade now.This book is the best I have found.I use it as my personal reference.I require it for my classes.

Concise, but not complete
I often use my dictionary and wanted a small one to take along when I travel. This one sounded about right. However, on my last trip I found that the definitions are limited and not necessarily what I'm looking for. For the size and the price, it is satisfactory, but it doesn't compare with a full-sized dictionary.

Good but by no means comprehensive
This truly is a pocket dictionary. The small size and soft durable cover makes it easy to carry with you. The font is easy on the eyes and quite readable considering how many definitions are packed into one page. It has, however, let me down quite a few times. I generally need a dictionary to help with difficult or uncommon words and this dictionary tends to leave a lot of those out. I don't really need to carry around the definitions of cat, dog, table, coffee cup, bowling alley, etc. I need definitions to words like affiance and velleity, the last two of the long list of words I looked up that were not in this dictionary. If you have a pretty good grasp of Basic English and are looking for a pocket dictionary of difficult words, this isn't it.

Comprehensive yet affordable, what more do you want?
I checked out several dictionaries before I bought this one. I have an old beat-up New American Dictionary that I simply won't part with, even though the cover's barely hanging on and the pages have turned yellow. I purchased this dictionary for a friend who's in prison and whose letters to me were filled with atricious spellings: sykology for psychology, for instance. He's working on his GED (and hopefully his spelling, though his recent letters don't show much improvement), and this book, if he uses it, will provide him with solid definitions that may make him the next Jack Henry Abbott. Served me well as an introduction to web services.
To get right to the point, this book is written in a very easy to read and accessable style, with just the right diagrams and illustrations in the right places to aid in understanding.

Great reading
The "Teach Yourself" series has done little to impress me until the arrival of this book. XML-based web services are getting traction as a truly standard way of enabling the service-oriented systems architecture. An architecture where systems can be built to expose services in such a way as to make it easier to integrate enterprise systems has been built many times already, but always ending up with constraints related to programming language, operating system and hardware. This book provides a good introduction to XML-based web services components including XML schema, WSDL, UDDI, SOAP and HTML with a comparison to the past attempts including DCOM and CORBA. The code examples require some analysis but are pretty helpful once you've taken the time to decode the XML and the scenario examples / case studies provide an interesting context to see how XML-based web services can be applied. ... Aimed at a very specific audience: avoid if you are not a management scientist!
I am a little surprised at the high rating that this book seems to get from the current 13 reviewers but, then again, these are probably memebers of the books target audience. When Albright refers to "modelers" in his title he is constraining the definition very tightly to those in the business world who develop models for "management science". This book has little to do with the more general concept of modelling as it might be found in the physical sciences, engingineering, the social sciences and anything else you can think of outside of management science.
Gets your creative juices flowing!
The biggest problem that I see with learning VBA is not trying to figure out topics such as object hierarchy, syntax, or "if" statements (there are plenty of excellent VBA guides for that!)No, figuring out what to do with all of the "stuff" you just learned is the bigger challenge.
Tells you just what you need to know
This book is excellent for the person who simply wants to expand their ability to use Excel without becoming a VBA expert.Most books on VBA seem to be written for computer professionals who, for example, seem to want to know about every data type that can be handled before learning anything else.Most of us would rather just learn how to do the things we need to do.This book uses this much more useful route (for ordinary folks)and tells us how to do the basic kind of stuff that we need to do (and that isn't at all obvious how to do):Key topics are accessing data in a range of a worksheet, outputting data to a range, writing a function, etc. etc.It only tells you what you need to know and it explains it all clearly.I had banged my head against a wall before finding this book and it answered all my questions and dissipated all my frustrations.I've recommended it to many of my friends. ... Not enough tips
I was hoping to start teaching online groups and needed some practical tips to get me started. I estimated that I would need 183 practical tips before I could start. I knew 22 good tips already - 4 of those appeared in here so it was effectively 143 tips + 22 tips leaving me at 165 tips - 18 short of my target! If they write a book called '161 Practical Tips for Teaching Online Groups: Essentials of Web-Based Education' (with none I know already) then we might be talking. Verdict: short of the mark.

Good resource
This little book does exactly what the title says.The authors give tips -- some common and some not so common - to help teachers involved in online learning.It is a great little reference.

Not exactly what I had expected....
If you are looking for specific distance education methodologies and techniques you might want to look elsewhere, but if all you are looking for are general distance education concepts put into a book- then this is for you. I thought that the tips were similar to something you might get in a "Thought of the Day" email, some interesting concepts with very little substance. Read more
