Editorial Review

The Java Message Service (JMS) provides a way for the components of adistributed application to talk asynchronously, or for welding together legacyenterprise systems. Think of it as application-to-application e-mail. UnlikeCOM, JMS uses one or more JMS servers to handle the messages on astore-and-forward basis, so that the loss of one or more components doesn'tbring the whole distributed application to a halt.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction but need some updating to JMS 1.1
This is a reasonable good book, as you can expect from O'Reilly. There is a good introduction in the topic (e.g. where is Messaging used for, what kind of messaging does exist, what is JMS), and it offers chapters with some practical code how you send and receive messages, and so on. It contains real Java code with excellent explanation.
3-0 out of 5 stars ok, but a little outdated
The basics were covered, but I felt this book was a little outdated. There werent alot of books to choose from so I chose this book because it seemed like it had the most coverage.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent Book on JMS
If you're looking to learn JMS, then this is a decently good book to get you started. One of the best things about it is that it's not very thick and it gets to the point pretty quickly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed
Great book, exactly what I needed. I'm pretty good with Sendmail, but there is nothing like just looking up an issue and following through a solution. I would recommend this to anyone who works with Sendmail!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has something about sendmail for everyone
This book has something about sendmail for everyone.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for anyone who administers sendmail
Working with sendmail can be very challenging at times; while the documentation for it is very complete, finding real-life use-cases can be tough and messing up a configuration is very easy. Fortunately the sendmail authors and community adopted the m4 language to help make building and managing sendmail configurations less painful (I remember having bad dreams about sendmail configuration language when I started learning it). Even with m4, understanding what goes where when and why in a sendmail configuration file can be a real challenge.

This book is a pretty good reference manual. It is better than most of the other books in explaining topics without a lot of extra techical jargon or fluff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent Migration Guide for Exchange 2003 !!!
If you are about to tackle a Migration from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 or from Exchange 2000 to Exchange Server 2003, this book is the guide you have been looking for. The author will tell you what you need to know in order to plan your migration and design the new Windows/Exchange 2003 environment. The book lists all the tools out there that can help you make your life a lot easier and it will take you through the process in a step-by-step fashion. On top of all the author does a wonderful work in aticipating most posible questions from the reader. I migrated from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 two servers in the same Active Directory Forest but in two different locations. All in a single weekend. I give it 5 Stars and a standing ovation. This book is a must have tool for a smooth Migration to Exchange 2003.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Resource!!!
We just completed our migration to Exchange 2003, and this book helped us plan the process, gave us a solid outline on how to test the migration process, and walked us through our live production migration. The book also helped us better understand the administration tools in Exchange 2003 along with tips on ongoing maintenance and management practices that we have put in place. This was the best IT book I've ever owned, packed with great information! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Companion is Worthless by Itself
When they said "Companion," they didn't mean Companion for Sendmail version 8.13; they ment Companion for "Sendmail, 3rd edition."This book only covers the updates between 8.12 and 8.13.If you don't know what 8.12 does in the first place, you need to get "Sendmail, 3rd edition" in addition to this one. Other than that, it's a great book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Short book for experts
This is a very short, but well written and organized book primarily intended for experts. It doesn't introduce sendmail, or provide complete overviews of the system. It covers topics specific to sendmail 8.13. I'm not quite sure why the didn't just come out with another version of the Sendmail book, but they didn't. What you get instead is this book which is a kind of addendum. Buy this book only in conjunction with the Sendmail book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fighting spam
This slim book documents the latest major release of sendmail. It assumes that you are already well familiar with running an earlier sendmail. The author does not waste your time going over generic properties of sendmail that have been true for years.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too Much Fluff
At first glance, I was attracted to this book by its sleek page design. The information is well-organized, sections and chapters are clearly labeled, and there are full-color images included. But upon reading through just part of it, I was disappointed by the amount of pure "fluff" that is included! There is too much info about the history of the internet and html, which I think most people reading this book will already have a handle on. Also, code samples are repeated multiple times, adding a few lines each time, which is totally unnecessary. Finally, there are WAY too many typos! I think a monkey was the editor.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book! Terrible Proofreader!
This is perhaps the best book I've seen on style sheets. It isn't overpowering in an attempt to cover EVERYTHING. The author does an outstanding job of showing just how simple style sheets can be. Many other books leave you with the impression that CSS is just another complex web discipline. For me, something very simply expressed in this book suddenly made me "get it" - The fact that background images and colors can be applied to ANY block-level element. This opens up all kinds of design possibilities. My site's table-based layout was so deeply nested that you had to search long and hard just to find the appropriate table data cell to place a sentence in. With this book, which has an entire chapter devoted to deconstructing a table-based layout and reconstructing it with CSS, I was able to reduce my site's pages down to a fraction of their original size, and now the mark-up for those pages looks more like an easy to read text document than a nightmare of table tags. The site looks exactly as intended in all browsers I've tried and has a pristine and sharp appearance. The changeover was fast and easy, and now, because of CSS, changes are as simple as changing a sentence in a document.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent primer on CSS
I grabbed this book at Barnes & Noble and sat in the cafe with a cup of coffee just to check it out. 2 hours later I felt like I had just learned an amazing amount of information.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Only Book Availalbe for BizTalk 2004
I understand the frastrations of the other reviewers towards this book. BizTalk 2004 is quite different from the earlier versions. BizTalk 2004 is not well documented and there is no other reference book available. Many of us waited anxiously for the arrival of this book and hoped it would biring us extensive and in-depth coverage beyond what was available online, in particular since one of the authors is Scott Woodgate, the product manager of BizTalk, wellknown in BizTalk community.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful, but limited in scope and effectiveness
I bought this book hoping it would be a good introduction to Zope 3. I browsed it in the bookstore and it seemed to include all necessary ingredients introduced in a sensible sequence.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent info, awkward editing
While the information is great, there could have been a lot more done in the editing process to clean up sentence and paragraph structure. In several instances the author will present multiple potential approaches to an issue but only cover one of the approaches.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you use Zope 3, have this book on your desk
Having Stephan Richter's Zope 3 Developer's Handbook next to you while you work signals to everyone that a) you're using the world's most advanced web application platform and b) you're into serious productivity!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book
I started using TrueSpace back when version 2 was the newest release.I figured I could play around and build some small videos for myself. This book walked me through many of the functions and allowed me to apply what I have learned.Practically from the first page, the author walks your step by step in creating your own object. Now with version 6 available, I wish this author would write an update to keep us all in the know.Even now I still refer back to this book for missing tips and function that I don't use offen enough to remember. If you like to use TrueSpace and really want to develop something not only recognizable, but high-end I suggest you start with this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is how computer books should be
The title of this book is spot on: Enjoying Web Development with Tapestry. I actually enjoyed going through this 500 page tutorial of how to create web applications using Tapestry 4. It starts off with getting Eclipse set up to debug a Hello World application in Tomcat, and then goes on to cover just about every aspect of Tapestry.
5-0 out of 5 stars Step by step for beginners
This book is fantastic! I bought it as a PDF and it's well worth its price!
4-0 out of 5 stars Good, needs more editing
As a Tapestry beginner, this book really helped me understand many facets of the Tapestry development experience. There is a good amount of useful information. However, presentation is sub-par. There is a decent amount of broken English, and the diagrams are sometimes too busy to be readable. Otherwise, this book has been a great help! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A very good book for a first course in Web design
I taught a Web design course in which I used both of Wendy Willard's books (Web Design: A Beginner's Guide and HTML: A Beginner's Guide). There is overlap, of course, but the pair worked quite well as a tandem. In fact, the students gave me a lot of positive feedback on the books. We focused on the Web Design book and used the HTML book primarily as a reference.1-0 out of 5 stars 20% Design, 80% HTML Rehash
Wendy Willard is the author of another Osborne book entitled HTML: A Beginner's Guide. It's a great book. Unfortunately, a lot of the material in that book has been grafted into Willard's second book, Web Design: A Beginner's Guide.5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the Ground-level Beginner
I am a graphic designer with firm roots in print design--getting into design for the Web has been a daunting prospect. This book is incredibly easy to understand and perfect for an absolute beginner like myself. It provides an excellent jumping-off point into more advanced design and production strategies, even if you are using a WYSIWYG Web page editor. I have been told time and again that even while using a graphical editor like Adobe's GoLive, it is still important to know basic HTML coding--this book even makes HTML approachable! I would recommend it to anyone who is brand new to Web design. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Pro Teaches Advanced Techniques
First note the sub-title of this book. This is not a beginners book that starts out with what the opening screen looks like. This is a book of hints, tips, undocumented features, nifty procedures that an expert can use to get a professional quality result quickly and easily.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly What I Was Looking For!
After completing my first Pro Tools class, I was ready to get out there and start recording. This book was the perfect complement to the information I learned in class and provided tips that were actually useful and helped me express my creative vision. Even with my somewhat limited knowledge of Pro Tools I was able to easily understand the concepts. This book is much more than a boring how to manual.

5-0 out of 5 stars An AMAZING compendium of expert advice...
I was prepared to be underwhelmed when I purchased this book online. A long time recordist/musician, I have only recently moved to Pro Tools as my primary recording instrument. I have become pretty adept and just needed something to provide "advice" for day-to-day use. This book is EXACTLY that. It's like having a friend who's a TRUE expert on the subject in a book. From providing step by step instructions on setting up a multichannel cue mix, to working Reason into PT, to providing professional grade plug-in combo "recipes" for channel strips, this books covers a LOT of material in its' 285 pages. If you are a Pro Tools user of ANY level, this book belongs on your shelf and in your hands. Don't miss out.

2-0 out of 5 stars Introductory Material. Little Technical Details
This book gives brief introduction to many important aspects of RF and uW engineering. There are very little mathematical derivations and technical explainations.I'd suggest buying Microwave Engineering by the same author (David Pozar) which is an excellent book on the subject

5-0 out of 5 stars Great RF book
This book covers a wide range of knowledge needed to get started on RF engineering field. It covers background theories in wireless technology, transmission lines, antennas, filters, amplifiers, mixers, oscillators, some modern modulation techniques, and also transceiver architecture.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Only MPLS Book You'll Need
This book has quickly found a home among the essential technical references sitting on my desk within quick reach. As a specialist in MPLS network design, I would like to think I understand all aspects of MPLS and its related protocols; yet the comprehensive organization of MPLS-Enabled Applications allows me to quickly check facts or refresh my memory of some arcane aspect of MPLS networking.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fabulous book on MPLS
This book is one of the best technology books that I have read in years.I've been sharing my elation about this book with my customers and I'm getting the same feedback from them on the quality of the explanations within the book after they go out and get it.What is so nice about this publication is the fact that they don't get into nitty gritty explanations of signalling messages and protocol headers.I'm reluctant to call it high level, but they avoid getting bogged down on those details and stick to explaining the technologies and showing the application of those technologies.A lot of the time other books that I have read get so bogged down in those details that you walk away without being able to "see the forest for the trees".With this book, Ina and Julian articulate each topic so well that you walk away with a clear understanding of the drivers for the technology, how the technology works, and the issues being debated regarding the technology in the standards bodies.I would highly recommend using this book to understand the technology and then coupling that with another book that gets into the nitty gritty details for a reference.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great survey of the cutting edge of MPLS
As the only text I've seen that comprehensively addresses the cutting edge of multiprotocol label switching technologies, "MPLS-Enabled Applications" is an advanced book for people already familiar with MPLS basics. If you don't know what those are and how they work, you need to get up to speed before you'll be ready to read this. But once you are ready, this book is the best way I can imagine to understand the details of the most important new applications in the fast-moving world of MPLS.

4-0 out of 5 stars a rich feature set for UI design
This recent book by Homer and Sussman gives a pretty comprehensive exposition of ASP.NET version 2.0. You might compare it to another recent text, "ASP.NET 2.0 Unleashed" by Walther. That book chose to give its examples in Visual Basic. Whereas Homer and Sussman provide theirs in C#. In terms of C# knowledge, you need a general acquaintance with its syntax, to easily follow this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars an authoritative, informative, and concise introduction to ASP.NET

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
I have been reading this book for the last 30 minutes and it's one wow after another. I just turned to my dog and said "This book is amazing!" hehe.5-0 out of 5 stars Even for the well-seasoned
I **LOVE** this book!I've been using Photoshop since version 4 and i'm self-taught.I am not an expert yet but then i don't consider myself a novice either. 5-0 out of 5 stars Photoshop reference extraordinaire
I love this book! I wish all software books were written this well. If you took 20 Photoshop books at random and put them through some magic process that took all the good stuff out and condensed them into 1 easy to read, well-organized, no fluff, no 1500 pages and 4 pounds of paper book, this would be what comes out.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless For Programmers
Agree completely with all of the other reviewers in respect to practical working examples and detailed information. This is nothing more than a high-level overview of documentation and specifications you can easily find yourself on the internet. Look elsewhere (and yeah, I'm still looking myself) for solid information about how to design and deploy WS-* applications.

2-0 out of 5 stars Weak examples.
This book delivers good introduction to WS-* specs beyond that I don't find much help. From a developer perspective, the book does'nt help with good examples, it is missing with coding guidance and also lacks detail about the PKI in Web services. Possibly this book is too early to market before the specs are endorsed by OASIS. It's time for a revision..otherwise I could've added two more stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Overview of Web Services Security
This book is a good introduction to the application of security to Web Services and SOA. The authors focus on "message level" security versus "transport level" security, and its application to Web Services. The book explains standards: WS-Security, WS-Policy, WS-SecurePolicy and other current standards at the time of publishing (2004).
