4-0 out of 5 stars Great book to start getting organized
This book gives you great ideas about how to get organiazed and get things going. The only thing is that you will really need to use and get along MS Outlook pretty well, else you'll miss some of the tips and tricks in the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Take Back Your Life!
I'm not even to the end of the book and I already have my e-mail box emptied to zero, all my documents and files organized on my computer into an easy reference system so I know what information I already have. I am going to apply the same principles to my paper files this week. I had so much information stored and coming in that it is a huge relief to gain control over it all! All because I applied what I learned from this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stong Emphasis on Up Front Planning
I am a veteran Franklin Covey planner user and consider myself very well organized and a strong time manager. Our company recently made the move to outlook, and I purchased this book hoping to get some tips on how to make the most of planning with outlook from someone who had a time management orientation. What I didn't expect was to learn anything more about time management.Boy was I wrong!Sally provides some real eye openers about spending more time up front planning tasks to get to "Strategic Next Actions" - tasks you can actually do without any dependencies. She also packs in excellent tips on setting up a reference system, handling email, and using the outlook task categories to their full potential.

5-0 out of 5 stars Frontpage 2003 Review
When I first purchased the Frontpage Software I should have bought this book at the same time, in fact they should actually be sold together. It is very well written and a very good guide once you are up and running.I would recommend this book to anyone who has a basic understanding of MS Office products.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible for a Help Book
This is a terrible book. I am a total novice in FrontPage and web page creation but have lots of experience in computers including programming years ago.
1-0 out of 5 stars I'm lost
I've never written a review before, but I'm so lost after reading this book that I had to warn others before they come down the same road.

4-0 out of 5 stars Techie Help
Several years ago, before I retired, I used Outlook at my office and was quite comfortable with it.When I became a Comcast customer, they do not "support" Outlook so I used Outlook Express. When I was able to download Outlook, I needed a refresher course in operation and info on the upgraded version that I now had. This book helped in several ways, and I continue to use it as a reference book.It is easy to read and understand. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not good enough
I'm afraid that I was not as impressed as the other reviewers. The book failed to mention that you need to have InfoPath installed to run some of the exercises. There is little of how a real world configuration might look.It does give some "click the screen" simulations of what the program might do.But then, you could get the same thing by installing it yourself.
4-0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to using sharepoint services
If you have never used Microsoft's SharePoint Services, then this is a good book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Illustrations
What makes this book so useful is the preponderance of excellent illustrations! This book very clearly illustrates where the user should focus on the Elements' tool bars, option bars, menues, screens, etc.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too high-level
I expected this book to be a good technical reference (much like just about every other Sam's Teach Yourself book). The book fails to deliver technical information and is primarily focused on how to perform tasks when USING Sharepoint that just about anyone who can read and click would be able to figure out without the help. This book is overly simplistic and is targeted to the END USER who is not even familiar with using Internet Explorer (several pages spent on what the different features of IE are).

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative, thorough; a great reference book
Prior to reading this book, I know nothing about Sharepoint. After reading this book, I felt comfortable and well equipped to administer Sharepoint. It is simple to read and is also thorough in covering all of the components of a Sharepoint site. This book also covered the various tasks of a Sharepoint site administrator which I found to be valuable. A great learning tool for the novice and a great reference tool for the experienced Sharepoint site administrator. I also recommend the "Microsoft Sharepoint 2003 Unleashed, 2nd Edition" book by the same authors.

5-0 out of 5 stars The only true user's guide I found
After a long search I finally found the perfect SharePoint reference book for the layman, not the techie... I distributed this book to my team at work and everyone is impressed with it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of Apress
i didnot think that i would like this book because for me apress is famous with their books having lacking style of examples. Normally you find yourself lost in the examples eventough the topic is covered very well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and easy to follow
I'm not a neophyte with CSS, but when I needed to turn an all-table-layout site into an all-CSS-layout site, I needed help. I turned to McFarland's book, which after a quick flip-through at the store seemed to hit exactly what I needed. Literally two pages of reading covered me, and I was off and running. But when I started reading the rest I was amazed at how much I didn't know about CSS. I really appreciate the real-world focus on browsers like IE5-6, and the inclusion of specific fixes for those CSS-unfriendly browsers. The fact that this book is SO recent - mid-2006 - means it's as up-to-date as a printed publication possible could be. While I'm sure the lengthy tutorials would be useful for someone progressively learning CSS, I like the book for it's logical organization, allowing me to flip to the bit I need, quickly see examples of what's going on (the ample screen shots are appropriate for a visual medium like CSS), and get back to work. I don't buy many computer books (for all that I've written several), but this one earns a permanent place not on my bookshelf, but right on my desk.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another excellent missing manual
This is another fine addition to the Missing Manual series. CSS is easier than it sounds and now I think I understand it. MacFarland makes it all clear. This whole series is excellent - books for those of us who still like our manuals on paper.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thorough, Straight-forward, Professional Approach to CSS
Overall, the book is a great read and recommended for anyone serious about designing professional websites. The chapters are broken up appropriately giving readers a gradual progression into the world of Cascading Style Sheets without too much detail at once.A major issue encountered in the book were the random passages scattered throughout where the author made recommendations that subsequent sections was boring and could be skipped.Personally I feel this puts the reader into a disgruntled state of mind.I liked how David put in the tutorials at the end of each chapter (except chapter 1) and these helped a lot clarify the material and how to put that material to use.I was disappointed though that the book did not present exercises for the reader to try out on their own at the end of each chapter. There were some exercises given by David but they were not consistent throughout the book (most chapters didn't have them). Finally I really enjoyed the overall pace of the book and found Appendix A with the entire CSS property list to be most helpful. ... Editorial Review

This is the definitive book on the Domain Name System (DNS), the powerful scheme that facilitates the translation of English-like domain names (www.amazon.com) into computer-comprehensible Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (208.216.182.15). If you run a DNS server of any kind, particularly under Unix, you need to have this book on hand.Read more

Foreword: I have been running my own DNS servers on OpenBSD and FreeBSD for about 4 years. All of my previous DNS knowledge was obtained from the man pages and online tutorials. 5-0 out of 5 stars Most comprehensive book on DNS and Bind
First off, the most recent edition of this book was published in May 2006, so all reviews prior to that are discussing previous editions of this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Informative, but not as clear as it could be
I found this book to be informative, but I sometimes had trouble understanding what they where saying.I found The Concise Guide to DNS and BIND by Nicolai Langfeldt to be more understandable in some places. If you have a good grasp of other parts of unix system administration, this book would most likely be fine. If you are more of a beginner and only want one book, get The Concise Guide. However, I recommend getting both, because they supplement each other very well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good reference for any Windows administrator or planner
The 2003 performance guide was probably one book that's worth the price of this entire package.Mark Friedman, the author of Windows 2000 Performance Guide, wrote this book for resource kit. That explained why he never published a follow-up of his famous 2000 performance book. The other books in the kit were also extremely helpful. This is THE set of reference book to get for authoritative Windows 2003 information. Also included is a disc with all the ebook versions of everything, including some bonus books not in the resource kit.So stop Googling for unreliable second hand information, and get your stingy boss to cough up the money for this must have tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars 7 Individual Books ++
This bundled set of books contains just about everything it is possible to know about Windows Server 2003. Well, maybe not everything, but everything you can include in four thousand six hundred and fifty pages, yes, 4650 pages.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good introduction
Although I have not plowed through this entire book yet, it is shaping up as one of the books I've been looking for to tie up all the different threads that now make up the task of creating a good website.I may never actually create my business website all on my own, but at least I will have familiarity with the various tools that are currently being used so I can intelligently discuss and understand what the professionals are recommending. One of the toughest parts of learning any new technology these days is the constant improvement and changes going on.It's impossible to guess what may become standard and what may be obsolete by the time I finish the book.Books like this at least give an average person like me a fighting chance to keep as current as possible without continuous formal education.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised
I am a design student, and have not yet learned web design, or how to build a website.
3-0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction Book
LEARNING WEB DESIGN is an excellent start to an understanding of how html works and what building websites is all about.Without getting too much into the specifics, and stopping before diving into more complicated items such as forms, and book builds a get over-all picture. If you're looking to become a professional, self-taught web designer, you probably want another guide. But if you are simply trying to build a personal web page and get started on a road to web design as a hobby, then this book is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little Exchange 2003 Admin book
There have been several of these types of books published by MS Press.Several years ago I purchased the Exchange Pocket Consultant. These books, and the information provided by William Stanek, are great.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I spend most of my time working with SQL Server, but recently I had to take over and rebuild our Exchange. As I've had good success with Stanek's other books, I picked this one up the week before to help me get up to speed on Exchange, and it did an excellent job. I successfully upgraded, had all our servers up and running by Monday morning and we have an extensive multiple server configuraiton with OWA, wireless, and X.400 MTAs. Exchange Administrator Pocket Consultant is by far the one Exchange book I can't recommend highly enough. Get it, you'll be glad to have it on hand. I refer to this book constantly.

2-0 out of 5 stars For Experienced Users Only
As a new user of this or ANY such program, I find that this book does not cover the basics. It was used in courses that I took to learn desktop publishing because of job requirements. It's pretty much monkey see, monkey do if you have no experience with this program. You don't learn the reasons why you're following the steps or how to decide which procedures apply when you're working on your own vice working with the lessons provided.I'm looking for a book that gives you a foundation for thinking things through, and this is definitely not it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting practice for Adobe Creative Suite 2
Adobe Creative Suite 2 Class Room in a Book is part of the official training series for Adobe products. This book provides various training projects that cover different fields of the graphic design.
3-0 out of 5 stars I Am A Bit Disappointed
Since I have purchased other Adobe Classrooms in a Book, I mistakenly believed that this book would contain a complete "Classroom in a Book" section for each application in Adobe CS2.I was wrong. In fact, the entire book is approximately the same size as the Classroom in a Book that was published for Pagemaker 7 alone.Let me restate that:CS2 contains several MAJOR applications, yet the Classroom in a Book for the entire suite is as thin as one published earlier for a single Adobe application!

4-0 out of 5 stars Look over a Master's shoulder
Awesome learn by example book IF you already have a little background in CSS, and even then if your knowledge is elementary you might be lost on some of the finer points. If it had a little more theory and explanations it would be a killer book, but I guess Eric Meyer didn't have patience enough for that. He is anyway a Master in CSS styling, no doubts about that, and the right author too look at for learning and inspiration. The book is structured around several projects that you see in the various developing stages from beginning to end in reasonably small steps. The explanations of what's going on are like what you would expect from a guru/designer/artist that is, far from complete andbasic. Again is like you had the chance to peek over Eric's shoulder while he works, but he won't be bothered to lose too much of his time after you. But don't get me wrong, this book is a must have for anyone interested in CSS, even if I would not buy it now (it starts being a bit dated) but would wait for his next book that should come out this autumn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Second to none!
I wanted a quick crash course in CSS; instead this book gave me a comprehensive start that led me on a path to a solid foundation in designing with Cascading Style Sheets.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good reference about CSS
The first seen this book seems one more technical guide about CSS, but to the first contact realizes that it is a great reference based on needs to everyday of the web designer.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than an Actionscript introduction!
Although this book is ostensibly a "beginner" book on Flash Actionscript (no previous programming experience necessary), I got more out of this book than you can imagine, and I'm not done with it yet. I've already got a few favorite pages that I come back to again and again.
5-0 out of 5 stars great user forums, excellent book
I spent $525 on an ActionScript class at SFSU, and I learned next to nothing. On top of that the teacher didn't like you sending him emails and asked you to save your questions for class. Fortunately for me this book has been all I really needed. I basically wasted the class tuition because this book covers ten times as much as the class did and David Powers, one of the authors of the book responds to my questions generally within 24 hours on the Friend's of Ed User Forum. Because of the forum I would say this book is invaluable. The book alone is good, but actually having one one the authors answering your questions has me give this book my highest recommendation. ...
