5-0 out of 5 stars Essential resource for creating successful mobile services
`Mobile Media and Applications, From Concept to Cash' has been written in a highly accessible and simple to read manner (most obvious to me because I am ony new to the telecoms / mobile industry). It offers a broad perspective of case studies and concrete experiences making it a comprehensive and essential reference for anyone interested in creating successful mobile services.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Voice of Experience
This book is written by a bunch of engineering and marketing support folk who work for Ericsson around the world. Their orientation is towards killer apps that would find a large market on a worldwide basis.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must for everyone in the Mobile Media space
Christoffer Andersson (& company) has done it again! This is a very up-to-date book on the incredible dynamic confluence of media and mobile. As a non-engineer, I found that the clear writing style and use of interesting examples and case studies make this sophisticated book very accessible. This is for everyone in the ecosystem; media players, telecom operators, application developers, device manufacturers and investors. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great starter but a little thin
This VQS book gives a great high-level of a broad spectrum of functionality of Flash but does not go into much detail. Good starter book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good place to start
Adobe and Macromedia both write excellent software but both have two things in common - the lack of being user friendly and intuitive.

5-0 out of 5 stars The single best Apache security book in print
I recently received copies of Apache Security (AS) by Ivan Ristic and Preventing Web Attacks with Apache (PWAWA) by Ryan Barnett.I read AS first, then PWAWA.Both are excellent books, but I expect potential readers want to know which is best for them. The following is a radical simplification, and I could honestly recommend readers buy either (or both) books. If you are more concerned with a methodical, comprehensive approach to securing Apache, choose AS.If you want more information on offensive aspects of Web security, choose PWAWA.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book...
This book is worth every single dollar. The examples are very clear and also provide invaluable information about security.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Resource on CSS
I found this book to be helpful in learning some of the basics of CSS.Perhaps, like you, I googled my way around online trying to find solutions to problems that I was encountering.I liked that this book had many of the solutions already written out in the book that I was having problems with.I have been familiar with HTML, but I was late in adding CSS to my websites.I know that there are large benefits with using CSS, and it makes your life eaiser, but I found learning CSS from scratch to be somewhat daunting. From the novice perspective I found this book to be exactly what I needed. There are larger books out there, but I really needed just the basics.
5-0 out of 5 stars CSS Clearly Explained
I highly recommend this book. I am not a specialist in web design, but did have a certification in HTML/XHTML before reading it, so I had some background. Major topics are Web Typography, Page Elements, Links and Navigation, Lists, Forms, Tables, Page Layouts, Print-Friendly functions, Hacks/Workarounds and miscellaneous designing issues.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference for All Levels of CSS Developer
I've recently had the pleasure of reading CSS Cookbook by Christopher Schmitt, published by O'Reilly (the people who put animal pictures on their tech books - seems silly, but now you know exactly who I mean, don't you?). While I do not recommend it as a beginner's guide to CSS, I recommend it for the bookshelf of current CSS developers, or perhaps if you have a basic knowledge of CSS (maybe you use it control fonts and colors, and that's about it) and would like to implement even more of your design with CSS.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars without doubt
I bought this book because I needed to brush up my wireless skills for a project during this summer. I liked the table of contents; it seemed to include pretty much anything I would need. But when reading it in detail, I was even more impressed by the skill of the author in explaining the most tricky aspects of wireless systems, mixing verbal explanations, math, and examples. And the book is at just the right level to bridge the usual communications courses I had heard, and the really advanced research monographs and papers. To summarize, this is simply a great book - 5 stars without a doubt.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent textbook
This is a very excellent textbook for both advanced undergraduate and graduate courses. It covers almost every aspects of wireless communications without losing depth. The further reading section at the end of each chapter is very usefull to readers who want to explore more on particular topics. It is a good sumary.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference and textbook
This is an excellent book that can be used both as a reference for practicing engineers and as a textbook for teaching wireless communications. The book provides the tools to understand the state-of-the-art wireless technology, theory and practice. Topics covered are wide-ranging starting with the presentation of the requirements of wireless communication systems and the technical challenges involved in communication under multipath fading conditions. The book proceeds to present a thorough description of the wireless channel. It then continues with an in-depth presentation of techniques for designing transceivers for communication over the wireless channel. In this part, the reader will find clear, detailed descriptions of technologies currently in use such as CDMA, OFDM and multiantenna systems. In the last part, the book discusses wireless standards covering both cellular and local-area networks. Review questions and exercises are collected in a separate chapter. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The perfect book for beginners
The book is clear, concise and comprehensive. It covers from how toget a domain name to how to accept credit card payments.I like the emphasis in formating using CSS instead html. This was a new concept for me. The author introduces java scripts and dynamic html. I missed a chapter about how to organize, and keep update the whole web site (sometimes with hundreds of web pages, pictures, icons, etc...). It was one of my first book about the topic and I really think that it's a powefull introductory book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable walk through the essential steps in web site creation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great overview of wireless design
Complete wireless design was a very useful book in developing an understanding of wireless systems, filters, matching circuits, microstrips etc...
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on Wireless Design
Circuits and Wireless Communication designers and Enthusiasts....ENJOY!5-0 out of 5 stars The "What you always wanted to know" Design Book
It is not often that you find such a good book that packs such a lot of helpful design information in one volume. Not only does the author get straight to the point without boring you with complicated mathematics and derivations like in some books (there are enough clogging my bookshelf), but also his simple formulas with short and powerful theory is enough to get the job 99% done. He proves that you don't have to get into very elaborate and complicated math routines to get a working design on the table. Sure there are instances where that is needed but as he explains in the book most of the number crunching and optimization can be done by CAD programs these days, leaving it unnecessary for example to hand calculate filter values by hand in these modern times. It is also nice to have a variety of programs included on the CD-rom. Even as a designer for the last 15+ years this book "taught an old dog some new tricks". This will help especially the rookie designer to get working designs in a short time and to avoid pitfalls. Definitely one to have on your bookshelf! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome InDesign Training Manual!
This book is phenomenal! After purchasing several different manuals covering the various main components of Adobe Creative Suite 2 (Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Photoshop CS2 and GoLive CS2) I found myself wishing that Lynda.com published a Hands-On Training book for every component of CS2. The combination of Brian Wood's clear writing style and the included bonus exercises and demo movies made me feel like I had my own personal InDesign instructor right beside me.Everyone who wants to learn InDesign from the comfort of their own desk should have a copy of this book. I highly recommend it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Too slow
I have bought linda books in the past and they are very good beacuse of the inclusion of quicktime movies and excersises. But I find this book too slow. The fact that you have to be 4 chapters to be able to put text in the document it's a drawback. To spend 3 chapters to tell you how to create a guide, I think it's for retards or 6th grade students. I regret spending the money on the book. I think I 'll try the Classroom in a Book CS2 since I had the previus CS1 that was good. I would not recomended for classroom beacause students will get bored. But it's a good option for non-designer people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Training for Indesign CS2
I work for an architect firm in which we used the old Pagemaker for doing our marketing and proposals brochures. We upgraded to Indesign CS2.I have never had any formal training in using Pagemaker or any marketing software.I simply edited over previous brochures to launch my new projects. So I really felt overwhelmed when I first opened the software and didn't know where to begin.I went to a large book store and took off the shelf every training book I could find on learning InDesign CS2. There were a couple dozen books out there.I choose this book because I could relate to it.It explains very clearly everything you need to know to get started using it.It has pictures or diagrams on just about every page showing you exactly where to go and how to do what they are explaining. Then you are directed to a practice exercise or video (on the training disk which comes with the book) to reinforce what you have learned. In my opinion if you are "green" to this software this is the best book for the average lay person.I even tried taking an 8 week class on InDesign CS2 which used the Adobe "Classroom In A Book".I ended up dropping the class because I thought I could learn more efficiently on my own using this book.I can't tell you exactly why but I did not like Adobe's Classroom In a Book as well as Brian Wood's Hands-On Training. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL!
Did anybody proofread this book?If Macromedia had bothered to have someone unfamiliar with the book work through the exercises they would have discovered that just the first chapter has more errors than you can shake a stick at.The book refers to files on the disk that don't exist. You're told to load a file that 'you created earlier in this lesson' which has never been mentioned before. It's as though entire pages have been deleted from this book, yet the information on those pages is refered to later. After a few very frustrating hours with this book I'm ready to pitch it out the window.
1-0 out of 5 stars Try another training manual
The examples that the manual goes through is not applicable to using flash for website design. The examples in the book are more gear towards creating a flash application.I wish I didn't spend money on this.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not great either
I do have to say I expected more from the "mouth" of Macromedia but it did have some tips that where useful. However the QA team must have been asleep on this book editing because there are numerous path errors, missing descriptions, broken code and I also believe the book was translated or at least it would seem that way.

Lydia's book is probably the best written web testing book in the market. The prose is easy to follow, progressive, non-verbose, and sometimes even inspiring. She painfully explicates various testing principles with exacting examples.Published in 2003, some of the examples already show their age but the testing principles and problems are still current.Web technologies have evolved immensely in the last three years and this book would benefit from such updates in a second edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference
The Web Testing Companion is a manual written for both beginners and experienced web designers, and the author herself is a testing director at Microsoft. If you've had a few years' experience as a designer, developer or webmaster, then the material is not new to you; i.e., optimizing bandwidth, etc.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Web QA resource
This is the best book I have ever seen on the testing web applications. It covers everything from unicode to Javascript, from security to the validity of the HTML. It teaches through an understanding of the technology, then covers ways to stress the technology to look for bugs. The sections on character encodings and performance testing are particularly well done. This is a must have book for QA professionals tasked with testing a web application. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Complete Guide to ASP.NET 2.0 Security
This is a book by a MS Developer Security MVP for any and all developers writing ASP.NET 2.0 applications. Not only does it cover all the usual suspects and provides practical prescriptive guidance on how to deal with them with examples; it also deals with the tough "hot topics" like partial trust. The book is both complete in breadth and depth and really does provide a single good reference book on ASP.NET security.

4-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't cover everything, but I've been using Emacs for 3 years and learned a lot here
LEARNING GNU EMACS is an introduction to the most powerful text editor ever made, a fully-programmable environment that through contributions from thousands has become something of an operating system in itself. This third edition covers all the new enhancements made in version 21.3.
5-0 out of 5 stars Respects the intellect of one motivated enough to learn Emacs and enables mastery of the tool
If a person is thinking of learning
