5-0 out of 5 stars Life changing
Amazon tells me I bought this in October 2004. Paradoxically, it doesn't seem like I've been using McGhee's system that long and at the same time it seems like I've been using it for years and years. It's very natural, simple, and easy to do. I have a windows mobile device and this system is perfect for it.
4-0 out of 5 stars two is not a crowd
This helpful book cannot be adequately summarized except by comparison and contrast with David Allen's Getting Things Done. This is so for two reasons. First, McGhee claims in her acknowledgements to have co-developed the system that Allen has gone on to disseminate with extraordinary results. Second, the family resemblance between the two authors' work is obvious and suggests shared genetics, even down to the marginal quotations that are meant to inspire but which I found irksomely clich?.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good framework and ideas, but felt like a sales pitch for Outlook
Similar to Getting Things Done and Seven Habits, this is a book about getting your life in order and making the best use of your time. I felt that McGhee, unlike Allen of GTD, did a great job of calling out the need to prioritize personal time and on saying "no" to tasks that don't fit into your schedule or would infringe on personal time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent beginner to mid-level book
This is an easy to read book with the detail you would expect from a pocket consultant. The author doesn't waste time with the basic chit-chat and does a good job of laying out the useful material.
5-0 out of 5 stars Stanek bats a thousand again!
This book is really worth every penny it costs. It is packed with useful information, well written, intelligent, and enjoyable to read. Just the chapters on IIS applications, side by side .NET configurations, and pooling are worth the whole book: it goes through every detail.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Information on PPC Marketing!Highly Recommended!
Unlike Peter Kent's other book called "How to Make Money Online with eBay, Yahoo!, and Google" this book is awesome.(The other book I just mentioned is NOT recommended AT ALL.)
5-0 out of 5 stars I Think of This Book as Volume II
There's a bunch of web sites out there, I don't know that anyone knows just how many. If you have one, and if your income depends on how many 'eye balls' are attracted to your site, then you may want to consider Pay Per Click (PPC).

5-0 out of 5 stars Now i want all my books to be like this
One of the best books on software that i ever bought. I've been working with GoLive for quite a while now and just can't believe how many useful things i didn't know about it yet. So many shortcuts that enhance productivity, so many features that i paid too little attention to.
4-0 out of 5 stars good companion to a standard GoLive text
Adobe offers GoLive as a powerful tool to build pages in a website. It is complicated enough that the authors of this book present 200 tips, to perform common and useful tasks.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for All GoLive Users
I have been using GoLive since the Cyberstudio days, and this book STILL florred me on how much useful information it contained. Everything from the "Well duh! I can't believe I didn't know that" to the "WOW" tips are in here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Great for CSS beginers, I found everything here I needed to know to get started.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Motivation to use CSS
Before reading this book, I had never understood the TRUE real reason for using CSS. The authors for this text do a fantastic job at explaining how HTML has become tainted with stylistic tags and hacks (was not the original intention for HTML, ie using tables for layout), and how CSS has come to the rescue to seperate visual presentation from content. This book is a great read to get a thorough and quick introduction to CSS. It flows well and has incredibly useful examples.

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential book for web designers: the "why" as well as the "how".
This book fits in nicely between reference works like Eric Meyers "Cascading Style Sheets: The Definitive Guide" and technique books like Dan Cederholm's "Bulletproof Web Design". At first glance, this rather unassuming book contains pretty basic information about the applications of CSS. However, this book deserves a careful reading, as it is packed with excellent explanations and examples.

4-0 out of 5 stars learner's manual for MediaWiki and TWiki
Wikis are an interesting experiment in collaborative effort on the Web. The best known example is of course Wikipedia. The authors cite this, but devote most of the text to explaining how to use MediaWiki and TWiki. Both have become popular for maintaining wikis, and are shown to be very easy to learn and use in a group effort.

The Visual QuickStart Guide series from Peachpit Press is known forboiling topics down to the essentials, and presenting them in an engaging andefficient way, to get the reader up to speed quickly. In applying this model toXML, author Elizabeth Castro had her work cut out for her.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Editor needed
Admittedly, I'm only up to the second chapter in this book, but it's clear that Castro needed a better editor. She relies on a frustrating "Type this, then we'll come back to it later" approach (example: naming your DTD, then finding out four pages later HOW to apply that information).Disappointing as her XHTML + CSS and Flash MX books were much tighter in execution.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good overall XML review, but it has gaps
This book does cram a whole lot of information into a tiny space.I will say that, if you are interested in getting started with XML, the book tries to include all the "pieces" you need - like not just XML code, but DTDs and XSLT, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for general Flash skills
This is a PeachPit Press "Visual QuickPro Guide"--similar to their "Visual QuickStart" training book series, but aimed at more experienced users. The series uses a task-based training approach, teaching skills through short step-by-step exercises. This approach has some major drawbacks for me, although this particular book seems to have dealt with some issues fairly well. My first complaint is that task-based training tends to focus too much on quick, "surface" results without really giving an understanding of what is happening and why it works. This makes it difficult to apply skills effectively in future situations, or to know when they ought to be applied. A task-based organization also makes it difficult to use a book as a reference, since information is dispersed throughout the exercises.
4-0 out of 5 stars A great book for those learning actionscript
I really enjoyed this book. It goes in depth in covering the actionscript language for Flash 8, and starts off at a relatively slow pace so you don't feel overwhelmed. My only complaint is that it relies a lot (at least in the beginning) on using the script assist mode which I think is a waste of time for those trying to LEARN actionscript. In it's defense, the book weans you off it as it goes along, and I can see someone with no actionscript experience finding that extremely helpful. Knowing a decent amount of actionscript before reading this, I found it a bit annoying but like I said, it fades out of that as the book goes on. Great for learning the newer way to code, and gives a good basis to really use Macromedia Flash to it's full potential. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars not what I expected
I haven't picked it up in a while. When it first arrived I was disappointed, it didn't have the pertinent info I was looking for. It's not anywhere nearby to refer to it. Basically, the "hot text" isn't really there. The outline was dull. The photos were kind of sad. I didn't like the presentation and the content didn't seem to live up to whatever the review was in the Amazon blurb.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helps Dreamweaver Live Up To Its Name
I only rated this book a 4 because although I've read dozens of software books, the only other book on Dreamweaver I'd read was a no-frills intro. Tarin's book delves deep into the hard-core details of this annoyingly complex, but increasingly necessary set of tools. This book is actually fun to read - I liked that. It is also irreverent - I REALLY liked that. The examples are crisp and easy to follow, if you think them through. I especially liked Chapter 10 on converting Excel and Word data to HTML, as Dreamweaver has a way of shrinking them to acceptable file sizes - a pain to sort out on your own. Dreamweaver's complexity can give you nightmares. This book, will let you count sheep instead. Good work Tarin.

1-0 out of 5 stars not very clear, sometimes confusing
Being able to follow directions well is not good enough for this book. This book was recommended to me by teachers, but it is useless and should not be used at all.I don't like that the visuals are old, and it is worse if you are using a MAC because they are mainly for PCs.The instructions are not straight foward - for instance I tried to upload my site images and half way through his instructions I was lost--I coulnd't find the windows he was referring to. I struggled for hours and finally, feeling defeated, I googled what I needed and found a web site that had more straight forward instructions. If I ever wanted to throw your computer or a book out the window, this was the time. Also, he seems to abbreviate his instructions to emcompass all the how to's in short sentences, but it gets too abbreviated that there seems to be steps missing -- he does this through out the book and uses names of windows this way as well. To my opinion this is definitely a waste of money and I regret buying it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Companion web site not there

The suite of utility applications that Unix users and administrators find indispensable--Telnet, rlogin, FTP, and the rest--can in fact prove to be the undoing of interconnected systems. The Secure Shell, a.k.a. SSH (which isn't a true shell at all) provides your otherwise attack-prone utilities with the protection they need. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Stick to the man page
This is one of those O'Reilly books that actually makes you stupider than you were before having read it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Makes sense of the obscure land of SSH
For something that should be simple SSH is anything but a walk in the park. This is compounded by the fact that the documentation for SSH just blows. This book, however, does everything but blow. In classic O'Reilly fashion the author decomposes the topic and covers it effectively from almost every angle with excellent writing and superb graphics. This is a great book for anyone who uses SSH, or who is having issues with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for me...
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book.I was pleased to see that it discussed the normal, everyday interfaces AND the more in-depth way to access and/or use the features of the Treo. They also gave ideas on how other individuals are using the features in "real life" usage. It is a much better manual than the one that came with the Treo.

3-0 out of 5 stars Review of "Now You Know Treo"
I was disappointed. I expected it to be more of a "how to" book instead it seemed to be selling the worth of the Treo.Telling how great it is and what it will do, especially if additional applications are installed on it. ~acr

5-0 out of 5 stars Goes Way Beyond the Phone Company Manual
The Treo established new grounds in the cellular phone by merging the capabilities of the palm sized computer with the phone system. This combination has brought entirely new concepts in computing and communications ability.

5-0 out of 5 stars All you need to know to blog using Blogger
I have been writing on my blog using Blogger since 2002, so I am very familiar with almost all the options it provides you with to get your word out there in the blogosphere. Yet, I was able to pick up numerous new things when I read this book by Elizabeth Castro. It goes from the very basics that you'd need in order to get off the ground, all the way to incorporating audio into your blog, blogging via e-mail/telephone, customizing your blog, hosting it yourself and much, much more. It's incredible the amount of useful information that the author was able to pack in a little over 100 pages.
5-0 out of 5 stars Guide For The Blog Perplexed
I write poetry and have been frustrated in my attempts to have my poems published. This guide was very easy to use and I have set up my own site (www.legacyofpetrarch.blogspot.com) Comments from friends and one stranger have been highly gratifying. In addition, I have compiled a collection of poetry by others written in opposition to war (www.giveuspeace.blogspot.com). ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A must read for any web promoter
This book is for both the novice as well as the seasoned web marketer/promoter.Just when you thought you knew how to attract more visitors to your site, you learn little tricks like meta tags, news groups, and using audio or video on your site.Although the book didn't include where you could find audio or video samples, I found a source at www.insider-sources.com under the link: www.insider-sources.com/EvenMore.htm.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lot of details, but well worth it!
This book is a definite MUST HAVE for any website designer, newbie to web design and anyone and everyone who has an online business. Simple, easy to understand visuals compliment the text, which is written in a very simplistic manner. This book is wonderful - magnificent - excellent, and will help you greatly understand the elements of successful web design. I've used it to consistently update my own website, at:5-0 out of 5 stars It will be a reference for me for some time to come
