This is not an MCSE exam guide...
Nor does it claim to be one.It does what is says it will do:Give a rookie a guide for setting up and running a vanilla install of IIS and Proxy server.If you're looking to be spoon fed answers on how to take a test, this book is not for you.

Completely Inadequate
This book doesn't even come close to covering the information on the exam.I relied on information from my instructor, class notes and Transcender exams to pass.

Great starter book, lots of info.
Lots of good info. There are some technical terms that were not well defined, but most of the critical information is there. Book is a great starting point. It gets you familiar with all the important concepts of IIS.

Too basic, and lacking focus
If you're considering this book as a basic intro to web technologies, then perhaps it's a decent choice. If you're looking for in-depth details on IIS6, then you should choose another book.
Great book for beginners, but not an idiot's guide.
Hey, it's a great book for beginners. I knew a very little about IIS and windows server before I started. Stuff like what a service is, what an HTML file is. You know, point and click, the basics. If you don't know this stuff then get a basic Windows server book before you read this book. However, if you know the basics of how to use a computer, then that's right were this book picks up.

It's excellent!It's a perfect book for someone like me who got dumped into the position of NetAdmin with very little knowledge of anything server related. I am flying by the seat of my pants and this book is my worthy, knowlegable co-pilot!It has been the one book that has saved our network from certain doom at the hands of a kicking and screaming newbie (no, i didn't want the job, it just fell to me...) Good general information,but not for the test
I used this book and MCSE:Fast Track, both highly rated, plus the Transcenders, to study for this exam and none of these came even close towhat's in the test. I studied well for this and passed 5 tests previously,first try. This book is far removed from the scope of the test. I gave 2stars because I think it is good for general information and will work wellfor reference, but don't rely on it for the test. There's nothing aboutODBC errors and minimal about SMTP and NNTP configuration. It tells how toset up virtual directories and webs and so on, but leaves terminologyunexplained. I learned too late that it is not extensive enough, even with the other 2 study materials, to pass this test.Not even Transcendershelped for this one.

A good buy, but some errors...
The errors annoyed me. Since they were only in the answers to sample questions section, they were somewhat harmless. But I wish they had edited the book more thoroughly. One other compaint I have is that there is quitea bit of repeated information. Hey man, just because it's the dummies, Idon't need to hear the information 10x. For those of you who like gettingspoon-fed information with humor and lots of repetition to ensure yourunderstanding of the material, this is the book. For the unpatient who wantconcise information just to pass the exam, I recommend something else. I'mnot sorry that I got the book, but I somewhat wish that I had gottensomething else. Besides, this is one of the easier exams.

Bravo!
In my opinion there aren't a lot of well-written Study Guides available for IIS-4 at this time.This is one of them. Mr. Isiminger's writing style actually makes this book a pleasure to read. Buena Teoria, Poca Pr�ctica
El libro es muy similar al manual del curso oficial de Microsoft. La primera parte es un tanto aburrida y creo que poco necesaria. Explica como hacer para rendir un examen, etc...Tiene muy buenos Tips de que tener encuenta para el examen, y algunas ideas muy interesantes. Pero pocapractica.

Just enough to pass the exam!
I found this book very clear and well organized.I did not have any experience on the product and I passed the exam.The screens are very well detailed and explained.I agree, this is not an 'in-depth' book, and themost advanced topics are not well covered, but for me it was just enough. Istrongly recommend it.

Poorly organized, found other sources
I feel this book has most of the information, but it was very cluttered and difficult to follow.This was not a very impressive resource.I used the Sybex book, which has a lot of basic garbage, but had the info I neededin an easy to follow format. Helpful book for a VERY hard test
Having looked at several study books and aides for this test, I have to say that none of them helped with the test as well as they should have.This book is no exception.It contains much valuable information but also skips stuff that's important for the test. Be sure to go out of your way to find information on ODBC errors, the exam will nail you on those! You won't ACE IT! with this book, but buy it anyway.

The IIS 4.0 exam has the reputation for being a difficult exam to pass and even to prepare for, and having written the exam today, I can vouch for both points.This exam does a better job of truly determining competencythan other MS exams, in that you have to carry out certain tasks in an MMCsimulator engine in addition to the usual multiple choice questions.Thisis the 13th certification exam I have taken, and it was without the mostdifficult.Read more

Excellent overview/refresher.
This makes a good refresher book before taking the IIS 4 exam.

Great overview
One of the last books I read before taking the test.Contains lots of great tidbits and memory joggers. Overall a good resource.

no help at all unless...
If you are using this book as your sole source of information, and are familiar with the product, it would be okay.If you are looking for additional information to supplement your MCSE studies, DON'T LOOK HERE. The book is choppy, and does not go into explanation of any detailwhatsoever.It left me with more questions than answers and I was sorry Ibought it.

I am not usually a Training Guide fan, prefering instead for the Exam Crams. After failing the exam twice, though, I realized that I wasn't getting the information I needed from the smaller book.Read more

This is a poor book, not worth to buy.
I used to hear that "books from Sybex are quite good usually."But after i read this book, i am disappointed on Sybex.IF you just want to know IIS without going for MCSE, the book may be for you, but not for those people want to take the exam. It doesn't touch deeply on the exam subject and it's also confusing. After this book, i really need to consider when next time i buy book from sybex.

Good in what it provided,but by no means everything you need
Good book for giving an overall coverage of IIS4, butI also used Fast Track, Electives in a nutshell and troytec.com study guides. Covered terms usedin IIS4 quite well.

Buy any other book, but this one

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK
I have been using Test Prep Books since I started my MSCE. I managed to pass all my exams on firsrt attempt.IIS4 was my last exam. This book does not even come close to what is required in the exam. The content andexamination questions are very, very poor.

Risk failing your exam with this book!
Do not buy this book. It won't be of any benefit to you. The contents arevery disorganized. It does not address the exam topics well. The questionsare very poor quality. You'll be worse off with this book. Be warned.

Why did New Riders put their name to this?
I am now MCSE, no thanks to this book. Originally I purchased the 4 core exam books by New Riders, and was very impressed with them all. So I decided to stick with New Riders for the TCP/IP and this IIS 4 book, well TCP/IP was very impressive covered all the areas required to pass the exam. Then I read and Studied this book, well most of the questions I was asked were not covered in the book, I had not heard of half of the stuff it was asking me! Definitely do not waste your hard earned money on this "joke" of a book. Sorry David not impressed at all.

For the birds!!!!
The only reason for buying this book is if you own a bird because it will be usefull for lining the bottom of the cage.The author should be embarassed to have his name associated with this book because it is a complete failure.This book will NOT help you pass the IIS 4 exam.A definite DO NOT BUY!!!!

If you use this book to study for the IIS 4.0 exam, plan on failing miserably.I can't believe this book was even published.The content and organization of this book is extremely poor.For example, in the first chapter there are exercises to do, but you don't even learn how to install IIS until chapter 2. Think of Something Else
This book is very incomplete: it contains no Index Server topics, no SQL Server integration, but has a lot of useless stuff. If you want to study for the exam, you'd better choose another study guide.

Tons of fluff with no substance
This book will definitely not give you the "ultimate competitive edge"!One half of the book is basic and useless info on nt security and network config, in which everybody who reads this book should alreadyhave plenty of experience. The other half is a haphazard collection ofadvanced topics with no structure or organization, impossible to understandin the format presented. This book is a huge waste of time and money.

Good Choice
As an experienced instructor, I caution use of this book by colleges who are utilizing instructors not completely familiar with the material. One of the top two IIS 4 books on the market!
I teach the Microsoft IIS4 class in an AATP.In the class the MOC does not give an in depth look at many of the topic areas.This book is a very good suplement to the MOC.There are some errors in the material.Butover all it is highly recommended.The only book I would recommend higherthen this book is the SAMS IIS4 in 14 days. ... This book will describe all useless topics for the exam. Less than 50 pageinformation about INDEX SERVER out of 565 Page book. All other topics arenot going to help you to PASS EXAM

I second the motion...this book is horrible...
I too am an MCSE, and this is by far the worst "tech" book ever.Fluff, fluff, fluff. Save yourself the money and agony this book willcause. The IIS online product documentation is all you need to learn IIS orpass the exam.

This is a good book but review Microsoft's exam guidelines!
This book plus the Transcenders testing software is a good combination to pass. Those two with a little hands-on and you should pass this test. I got an 854 out of 1000 on the test without too much effort. DO read up on ODBC error messages (SQL) as it was heavily tested. This book does not delve into much depth on that subject. Otherwise a good buy, especially used.

Pretty thorough but check out the exam criteria on Microsoft
I passed the test with an 854 out of 1000 using only this book and the Transcenders plus some hands-on time in IIS 4.0 . My best EXTRA piece of advice is to go to Microsoft's web site and look at what the exam will test on. I got a lot (3 or 4 out of 55 questions) of ODBC error messages questions (SQL) on the version of the test that I took (non-adaptive version) and this book did not delve very much into this area. Other than that, it was very good.

Lots of Sample Questions, Missing necessary depth
After successfully passing 4 of 6 exams, I was wondering which exam to hold for last...After purchasing this book purely by Amazon's readers recomendations it's pretty clear that IIS will be that last and final exam for me.As I will need to find additional study material for the IIS4 exam - this book has lots of sample questions but the explanations are too simple and quick.Read more

After studying this book I took the test only to find out I was not prepared for the test at all.Most of the material on the test was not covered in the book.The Sams IIS 4.0 is a good introduction book but onlythat.

Excellent study guide for IIS v4.0
The book is a great study guide for the IIS exam. Fourteen days really means 14 chapters, and it can be covered in three days in a cram session.There is some unnecessary stuff in there, devoting a whole chapter to NNTPand Scripting, which don't have too many questions on the exam.Still, ithas excellent labs and can serve as a resource after passing the test.Ipassed with an 811.Don't waste your money on the expensive MS officialcurriculum.Make sure you have some practice tests like transcenders orCNE Quizzer, and make sure to use MMC.

Fair Book
This book is fair as far as IIS goes and yes I agree you can't learn IIS in 14 days. This book is dry and doesn't cover ODBC errors. I bought MCSE Test Success by Lisa McDonald and it blows this book away.The only goodthing I can say about this book it that the MMC exercises are good butotherwise look elsewhere this book has WAY to much fluff. ... I think this was a great book
I really enjoyed this book, I don't know why everyone does not like it. There were some mistakes but this book went into great detail and was written well. I also took an instructor-lead IIS class and I feel I got more from the Exam Prep book than the class. I used the Transender for myfinal study and passed the IIS test with an 800 in about 20 minutes. Idon't think anyone should expect to get everything they will need to answerevery question on a Microsoft test from one book. This book will provideyou with what you need for a good understanding of IIS and enoughinformation, if applied to some lab work, to easily pass the test.

This book is in dire need of an editor
This book is poorly written with numerous mistakes.I'm disappointed I purchased it and I plan on using another company (Sybex Network Press) for the remainder of my studies.The subject matter is difficult enough without having to determine if the author's information is correct.

I used Exam Cram books to help me pass five MCSE exams.For the last test, I thought I might try out the Exam Prep series.Big mistake!The list of errors from Coriolis' website is 17 pages long, not to mention tworather large files that have been left off of the CD.The text is poorlywritten, though the book is rather long, there seems to be very littleuseful information in it.There are more practice questions at the end ofevery chapter, but there are no explanations included with the solutions. I got a petty good understanding on IIS with this book.Thanks again, Lisa Donald.This is the 3th book i read from Lisa Donald, i got pass on those exams with all her book.Don't confuse this "Test Success" and the other one call "study guide".Test Success is a very good book for passing IIS and you can get a clear concept too. Hope Lisa Donald can write more good books agin for win2000.
