It shouldn't be the book for the beginnner
Unfortunately, I have class using this text book.This is one of the most horrible text book I've ever had.It's very difficult to understand, even who that already has the basic knowledge. I really have a hard time when I have to memorize all of things in this text to the exam. There's no core for me to catch.The more I read it, The more I have stress.The authors need to do homework a lot, if they want it to be easy to read.

Needlessly wordy and long winded
While O'Brien seems to really know his stuff, and the book covers a vast array of material, it's just too darn wordy. His sentence structure, and word usage are awkward. Many of the terms he uses are NEEDLESSLY large and difficult to understand. He uses terms like 'tactical planning', 'proactive and interactive', and the like with out even explaining what he means. Many of his sentences have fillers and are full of redundancies.

Excellent Road Map
I would highly recommend this book to anyone, like myself, that is looking to move towards more agile approaches to software development.Obviously, Agile has its place, as other methodologies have their place.This book has allowed me to refine my approach to a significant effort that hopefully will help our transition from a rigid waterall approach to a more flexible adaptive approach.
Your Resource for Agile Planning

Amazing book to get you up to speed in no time!
At first, I was a little apprehensive about the book - I was thinking it was a repackaged 'Teach Yourself in 5 seconds a day' kind of thing where you end up flying throughout through the content without really learning anything. I needed to actually learn this topic and I needed to do it quickly - I bought this book on a Monday and had a MAJOR project for my Database Systems class due Friday night at midnight.
This book delivers exactly what it promises
As a beginner in the PHP & MySQL world, this book provided everything I needed to go from nothing to a fully functioning dynamic site within days.Great examples, and most importantly he covers security concerns as well as best-practices for keeping everything running smooth.
Excellent Resource for Learning PHP
As a whole, the Visual Quickstart and QuickPro guides are a great series, and this title - now in its second edition - is no exception.

Excellent overview of SOA
I am new to the SOA world, and as I am now just about through reading "Service-Oriented Architecture; Concepts, Technology, and Design", I can highly recommend this material to interested technical and non-technical professionals.No book is going to provide everything you need to become an expert, but this book has laid an excellent foundation that I shall build upon when I start reading Thomas Erl's associated "Field Guide" book.As an added bonus, Thomas Erl has many web pages with additional information enabling you to drill down in particular areas of interest.
Verbose, Mostly High Level Concepts
This book might be best described as SOA for managers.Most of the book covers high level concepts.In some parts everything is presented as an abstraction, leaving the reader to wonder what the connection with the real world is.
Simple concepts are expressed in overly complicated manner.
I have read 30% of this book and I'm sure not going to by another one by Thomas Erl.

Best Title on the Subject
If you have ever been frustrated trying to figure out Regular Expressions (RegEx) based only on a table showing symbols and a few paragraphs of explanations obviously written by someone who assumes you are already familiar with the concept, then this book is for you.Don't be daunted by 480+ page size of this title; before you reach the end of chapter 2 you find yourself with a solid understanding of the concepts, structure, syntax and "keywords" in common use by those utilities, programming languages and applications that incorporate RegExs.The middle of the book covers implementation of RegEx in different environments, techniques for creating the expressions, and methods for creating efficient expressions.The end chapters are specific for Perl, Java, VB.NET and PHP users.
Thorough Regex book
This book is an invaluable resource. I learned more than I wanted to know about regex after reading this book. The authors breaks things down to the smallest detail and discusses each aspect. He covers regular expressions, their engines, their use, and some tips and tricks without losing the reader.
Mastering Regular Expressions
I've corresponded personally with Jeffrey Friedl several times over the last few years, and I remember being at once impressed with his attention to detail and his focus. I was invited to be one of the technical review editors for this third edition of his authoritative book on Regular Expressions, but had to pass due to time constraints.

Best handbook for programmers EVER!
The authors were very modest in choosing their title.Yes, indeed, they focus on the scenario of writing reusable libraries, and write from the perspective of two of the designers of the .NET Framework. However, the utility of this book goes far beyond what the title implies.

Very good learning version
This affordable version of SPSS allows students to learn how to use SPSS without investing a large amount of money on the full version ($600 or so).This version is limited in the number of variables and cases it can store, so students looking to perform serious analysis would be better off to purchase the SPSS Graduate Pack.

Not for graduate students
Unfortunately I didn't see the part about the student version being limited to 50 variables and 1500 cases until I'd bought it.The class I'm taking uses far more variables than that.I am wiser now.

Ready reckoner for the softer side of project management
This book is more than 400 pages of good, practical advice for project managers. Since 'art' is always a specific solution, as opposed to the generic formula based science, the value of this book will depend on the extent of experience a person has, the kind of project she is managing (hopefully IT) & the realm of her responsibilities.
Good Book for Architects Too

Information Dashboard Design
This book primarily deals with what the title says. Dashboards. I was not aware ofthe complexity and breadth of this type of interface, but since it is not a forte I usually provide to clients, the book was an interesting read.
Disappointing
I had high hopes when picking up this book.In the end I found little of use.Perhaps I was looking for more than an approach that was business oriented.Information displays for systems monitoring are a topic almost completely missed in the book.

If you're a tester or developer, this book is a must-have.
Cem's book is a full chest of software testing's practical jewels.I found myself saying "wish I'd known that before I learned it the hard way".After a few years in software testing, I only wish such advice and clear-cut ideas were made available to newcomers and even experienced software QA and testing professionals.The format is inviting, concise and economical.It is truly an enjoyable read.

As a test manager and tester for years I discovered recently this book. Astonishing how much it drives you to question yourself about methods accurate for YOUR testing project.Insightful to senior testers who find themselves in charge of a team or of a testing project.My testing will probably never be the same as I reread those advice and still try to find good question to ask myself to better my test.

Beware - You need to ALSO know Photoshop
I was disappointed - not because the CSS stuff is poorly presented, because it's on the better side of average, but because to learn this book's stuff, or try to emulate some of the examples, requires a knowledege of Photoshop.For example, you need to know how to create an image with a gradient applied to a canvas, or to create a 1 pixel transparent row within an image - something that your average person may takes weeks to learn on his own.Photoshop is not all that intuitive to just grab a copy and simply create an image that the author uses.
Great book but missing a page
Great resource for css designers. I particularly enjoyed the section on rounded corners and css without tables. But I did find one thing wrong with it--page 196 is missing from my copy. What happened?

The Title Says It All
Dan's book has been incredible in helping me built great UIs that truly are bulletproof.I'm currently working with a mega-church to design a completely new website, and Bulletproof stays on my desk as a terrific reference. I'm amazed at how easy writing clean code is and how bulletproof it really is. Something like a box with links that I used to build out of complex tables and sliced images (that would invariably break in certain conditions) can now be done with a couple of divs, a couple of images, and a few lines of CSS.Amazing!This is a must have book for all designers. ... Very nice book
this is a very good book about web usability and its not a complex kind of book, you start reading it and u dont want to stop it untill you finish it!

Not quite what I expected..
As an avid read of Mr.Nielsen's blog and his website, I figured this book would comprise the "Bible of Web Design".Unfortunately, I was a bit let down.
Simple IS usually better
Please people don't design incredibly complex sites with over the top graphics that take an hour(feels like) to download even on broadband! I encounter this everyday and can't imagine what it must be like for those on dial-up, which is still most of the internet user base. Designers like to design and justify their high paying jobs by these crazy sites that simply drive me nuts. I recently tried looking for sunglasses on the Ray Ban site and Holy [...]! What a pain in the [...]! I finally went to a small reseller site where I could actually see the glasses quickly and make a purchase. The Ray Ban site I'm sure cost a fortune and is pretty but NOT user friendly. Web site designers need to remember that these sites are for people to find products and services, not to win design contests. My ex is a graphic designer(excuse me...User Interface Experience) for a very well know company and I know how they think. The more elaborate the better, we can charge clients more! KISS ... This is an excellent book for Biztalk, Only suggestion is read the Biztalk 2006 white paper from the Microsoft website before you read this book. The authors have presented the content in a very easy to understand manner, without beating around the bush.........

After many books that seem to rehash documentation, this book offers a fresher approach of giving BizTalk developers and admins a way to complete certain needed tasks without having to pour through mind-numbing chapters and still not find a solution to a needed problem.

Buy this book if you want your team's project to succeed
Don't buy this book if you're memorizing answers for some PMP exam.
it is not good
The title is very attractive. however the content is more common. maybe it is good for beginner. most of content is focus on Traditional. nothing or very little useful information on Adaptive and etreme. if you want to learn how to deal with the adaptive and extreme project. just buy another one

Good material but not enough coverage
This book covers the fundamentals of project management but lacks details. It also lacks simplicity and consistency. The Critical path example discussed on p. 132 to 134 is confounding (especially the part explaining the difference between free and total slack). Better and more lucid examples demonstrating the various topics covered in this book would have made this book a 'standard' must-have. ... Read more

Excellent textbook on E-commerce
I just received the new edition of Laudon and Traver's textbook on e-commerce and think its just great! I previously used the 2nd edition, which I also loved, and this new edition lives up to its predecessor. It contains all new and updated information and is extremely current. Its so well-written that it doesn't read like a textbook at all. I highly recommend it to anyone interesting in learning about e-commerce.

Good, but dated....
I have used this textbook for several years - while it is a good basic source of information, it badly needs updating and supplementation in several important areas: RFID is not mentioned; Mobile/hand set E-Commerce is covered at a surface level, Search Engine and major Portal marketing needs updating, and much of the data are 3+ years old - very old given the rapid changes taking place.

Boring book
After reading some of the review for this book on this site, I question if these reviewer were sober when they wrote there reviews. The book is boring,and after a few chapters you'd maybe start looking for a new book. And if that CD breaks, from what i've been told, you'll have a hard time getting another one from the book company. I'd suggest you check out your local book store and take a look inside the book before you buy it; it would save u alot headache.

Read it in One Night
There aren't many eBay books that are entertaining but this one was. Lots of good stories to keep you interested, and when all is said and done there's a lot of good information here on creating auctions and really thinking like a seller. Somewhat self-promotional, buy hey the guy's a success story.

Enthusiasm is contagious, but Ginsberg has much to gain
This book is fun and well written, but it started to sound a lot like Network Marketing books I'd read in the past, and when I first sniffed the aroma of Ginsberg's intent to sell me ebay tools, I was a bit dismayed...okay, he's got more than one agenda. I agree that there is A LOT of repeition, but maybe that's a good thing.. .it sinks in. However, Ginsburg's writing gives the feeling sales are really hot on Ebay...and that if you put stuff upyou're very likely to sell it. Maybe, maybe not. Halfway through the book I went online to check the seller listings... as he suggests....and I was pretty mollified to see just how much goes UNSOLD on EBAY every day.Putting those stats side by side would be a bit sobering, I think. I love to buy on ebay, I've tried to sell a few things without much luck (except new books.)YOu have to spend more to sell more and I've been stingy.. so with his help, I plan to experiment a bit...but I have no doubts this is not as easy as his enthusiasm makes it sound. But when you're making millions, I guess it's easy to get enthusiastic, especially if that sells more books and more software.Now I'm looking for a book that says... yes, you can, BUT!:-)

There is a lot of information to get you excited about starting to buy/sell on Ebay.A tiny bit too many "stories", but excellent source of the basics.Just be sure to flag pages as you go to reference and your start up will be much easier.Just attended Ebay 101 class ($95) and much of the stuff I had already learned from this book.Definitely worth the price of the book. ...
