Best text on the market for Spanish Instruction
I teach college Spanish and I love this text.It is thoughtfully constructed and provides numerous activities for communication in the target language.Dos mundos also provides very useful ideas for instructors.The pages are colorful and the content engaging.My students love all the activities I use from this text.I wish more Spanish instructors would embrace the methodology presented in Dos mundos.My level one Spanish students actually speak Spanish (albeit low-level Spanish).I don't know if I would recommend this text for independent study, however.I believe it would be most effective if used in conjunction with a dynamic instructor.I do agree that the authors should include a separate English-Spanish dictionary section. I also find the video segments to be very poor (and why are they exactly the same as the ones for Puntos de partida when they both have such different approaches to language acquisition?)
pretty good
this is not a bad spanish book. i don't know if i would say it is great. lots of group activities that are helpful, but they are pretty simple and repetitive.they need to be a little more thoughtful and put in lots of DIFFERENT activities.one last, quite frustrating thing, there is only a spanish-english dictionary in the back.extremely irritating because this is a spanish 1-2 book, and anytime you want to look up a word, you'll need to consult another dictionary. ... A really good PHP introduction book
First off, this book is completely useless to you if you have do not have adequate OOP programming background. It jumps around different topics and does not really explain why things are arranged a certain way. This book pretty much assumes you have knowledge of either C, C#, Java techniques - which makes PHP extremely easy to understand. If HTML is all you have under your belt, this is probably a terrible book to buy.
37 Chapters, 3 Books in one, and a must have desktop reference.
This is as it states for the Novice to the Professional and that is completely true.
The only PHP and MYSQL book you'll need!
This book is geared for three types of readers I believe (a rarity among books). First are people who have no experience in programming or web development whatsoever, the second are people who have worked in other languages whether be on the desktop or the web, the third type are people who already have some basic PHP and/or MYSQL experience and want to further their knowledge into intermediate topics. How can a book accommodate so many types of readers? Well, being slightly over 800 pages helps and also this book is very well written and organized and focuses on all the important topics.

Good Choice for the CSS beginner and up
This book is a well written introduction into the world of css and pinpoints key concepts of css.It's by far one of the most readable texts that I have picked up out of all the technical books I've read in my few years of being alive.The book lacks a little in having some references to an example on a previous page while the reference to it is one to pages after the example.This discrepency is understood though since it is hard to keep everything together and not spill out onto other pages when planning the layout of a book. Overall this is a good book on css, and I would recommend it to anyone wishing to start into css.

Good book but irritating typos
I would have given this book atleast 4 stars if it weren't for the misleading typos! here's a few - Chapter 6 Pg 127 refers to Figure 6.2 (which doesn't exist!) instead of Figure 6.3; Chatper 10 Pg 228 the example "H1 {color: #ff000 }" is plain wrong (needs a extra zero at the end) and will not work.
Great resouce for new to css
ritten by the authors of CSS, at first I found it a bit heavy in dialogue and backgrounds. Not until you open the book to the index does one actually realize the wealth of information in the book. Do not expect this book to show examples of the next great page, but as a resource in trouble shooting it helped explain alot of questions I either was too lazy to look up in Dreamweaver Help or couldnt find the right type of answer elsewhere. My level is pretty much entry intermediate, but with this book, it took me a bit higher. I am getting rid of my introductory CSS books and using this one as my main go to guide.

a comprehensive widget set for C++
When C++ was first put together in the 80s, it was just before the advent of GUIs for many programs. But as Java arose in the 90s, and then C#, the need for easy UI coding in C++ became very clear. Hence Qt was developed. Now in its 4th version. And available for Microsoft Windows, linux, Macintosh and several unixes. The accompanying CD has version 4.1.1. Though by the time you get this book, you might want to scout the Web, either for patches to this version, or a more recent version.

Outstanding Resource!
I recently volunteered to assist as webmaster for a friend's mayoral campaign website.Having last used HTML and some Javascript years ago for a very basic personal homepage, I needed to get up to speed quickly. So I hit many, many websites and web tutorials on XHTML and CSS.They gave me an acceptable, but not entirely solid foundation on designing with those technologies.I needed more, and fortunately found this book.
Extremely pedagogic and well-written.
I really liked this book and consider it to be in a class for itself (no pun intended :-).
The best CSS book yet
I've read many CSS books last several years, but still this is the best CSS book out there. The content itself deserves 5 stars, but what separates it from others is Dan's teaching style. Great usability book
As my second most favorite usability book, this book points out the hundreds of ways a site can go wrong, and the many points to consider when designing sites. Let's be honest - it's pretty impossible to satisfy all their guidelines and STILL meet a deadline - but at least you can pick the ones that matter most to your company, and be aware of the once you missed. Another must read for web designers.
Must read for any serious web developer
rioritizing Web Usability by Jakob Nielsen and Hoa Loranger can best be described as a more 'strict' approach to web usability. If you have been in web development for any extended period of time it is likely that you have heard the name Jakob Nielsen. He offers great insight to web usability and has for many years. Some may view him as strict, some as normal, and still some as WAY off his rocker. No matter how you view him, he deserves much respect for his time spent in usability studies and the (somewhat timeless) statistics and information he brings to the table. I just finished reading this book, coupled with "Don't Make Me Think" by Steve Krugg, and appreciated what all of the authors could present through statistics, screenshots, and customer insight.

Meaty Part is in a few chapters
I guess, that for a newbie, the entire book would be interesting, but for me, i found the meaty parts to be in part III , from chapter 6 onwards.
One of the best AdWords book available
This Adwords book by Andrew Goodman is probably one of the best Adwords books around and even got positive feedback from the Google Engineer Matt Cutts (at Matt Cutt's personal Blog).
Somewhat out of date but still pretty useful

Good introduction to Human Factors Engineering
Wickens et al. really fill the gap between system engineering and cognitive psychology. I have found quite a few of books of this kind. Extraordinary!
Wickens is a true pioneer in the field of human factors who fills the gap between (system) engineering and cognitive psychology with great diligence and competence. This book, "An Introduction to Human Factors Engineering", is another excellent reference tool made for engineers to integrate psychologic research results in their creations; I read it in combination with Wickens' "Engineering Psychology and Human Performance", which concentrates rather on the psychological perspective of human factors than on practical design advices. Both books have considerable overlappings, and are similar to each other, even in the structure of the chapters; nevertheless, I highly recommend them both. I have not (yet) found better literature for this field.

Memory, thinking skills, creativity - great book
Mind Performance Hacks includes the usual fare of all memory books - various memory systems including the Major and Dominic Systems and variations of them.However, these authors go beyond the memory books by including many of the newer concepts in information processing such as mind mapping, dealing with cruft, ways of increasing creativity, capturing creative thoughts and using your creative self to resolve current issues.They also include some neat math tricks and techniques to quickly check the results of calculations for accuracy, estimate square roots, and other quick calculations.Unusual areas include better decision making and communications, bringing clarity to your life by working with emotional problems, and using meditation.And of course they include things to do to exercise your brain and keep it in tip top shape.Mind Performance Hacks: Tips and Tools for Overclocking Your Brain is highly recommended and was well beyond what I had expected from the title.

Microsoft Access 2003 Step-by-Step
Comprehensive and very easy to find whatever I'm looking for. I'm very pleased with my copies: one on my bookshelf and one in my laptop case

They mean it: Step by Step
It is quite astonishing what some expect from a book that says "Step by Step". It is for absolute beginners! But for those this is a great book. It takes away the mystery of Access. So far I have only been hearing what kind of a complex and difficult to handle program Access is.
This book tells you what to do but does not explain why...
As the title explains, it does take you step by step on doing a few simple tasks but it does not explain what the reasons for...primary keys for example, it just tells you to pick a primary key for this task but on another taks it will tell you not to pick a primary key.What good does knowing how to change a "primary key" when you dont know what it does or what the ramifications are.The same goes for a lot of things that the book tells you do do but doesnt explain why you are doing it. ... Great coverage of Verilog language
Very comprehensive text about the Verilog language, covering the various aspects of the language. The text is clear and well organized. The exercises at the end of the chapter helped me a lot in the learning process. The simulator included is very simnple and all examples in the book run flawlessly. A few things I did not like: the few mistakes in the text and code could have been easily caught by any careful reviewer, the lack of a more detailed example to show the usage of the various constructs in a real world Verilog design and hints about how to build synthesizable Verilog programs. I have enjoyed the author's style and recommend the book for any person who wants to learn Verilog, including other software engineers like myself who want to understand some HDL basics.

Good explanations but not for reference
I read the book; it is a good one for reader to catch the idea quickly. But to use it as a reference book might not be a good idea. The topic organization is divided into basic usage section and advanced technique section, and kind of hard to locate for a certain issue. However, it is still worthy of reading as a beginner. The most things I like this book is it use example(s) to explain the concept.

an easy language
The author offers more than just a detailing of the various parts of the Verilog language. He also covers extra features that enhance what you can do in Verilog for the purposes of modelling or analysis.

Excellent!
It seems like this textbook has gotten bad phrase and for no good reason.This book is a college level textbook and is perfect in conjuction with appropriate teaching.A person can not simply book pick up this book, skim through a few chapters and expect to understand the management process without being taught by a professor.My advice, go to college and learn the process properly.

virtually fraud
Be warned. The Office Project program advertised as included is a trial version. The ad does not say this. Now I have to turn around a buy a new program- Amazon customer service says it isn't their fault. I really needed the book and the program for a class due to start in four days. Now I'm really stuck. Amazon is even trying to get me to pay for the return shipping!

Excellent text for the Instructor; for the Student
This is an excellent text at various levels of interest, desire, talent and time. The text is arranged that given the time, the Instructor can dig deeper and deeper into thorny topics. Additionally, curious students can rely on numerous web sources for enhanced views and greater depth.
Not Only For Students
I am using this textbook in several of my classes, and let me just say- it has everything I could have hoped for. The chapters are laid out well, many cases are cited, and the student is given actual cases to figure out, with the citations given at the end so he can find the actual outcome. I've found this to be among the best textbooks. It is so good, in fact that I've reccomended it to several of my friends who are going into business for themselves. This covers nearly everything they'll need to know regarding contracts, secured transactions, warranties, etc.Read more

Out of date now
Python has come a long way. This book does not instruct you on any of the newest features or capabilities.
Great
I am new to Python and really, really like this book. I have read it cover to cover twice. It is obviously biased in favour of Python, but goes out of its way to explain the "gotchas" and things that are not intuitive. All in all, a WAY above average computer book!

Definitely not a reference book
This book isn't horrible, but it meanders all over the place. It often confuses the issue by using several concepts in one example. There are too many instances where a technique is shown but then explained several chapters later. Sometimes this is necessary in language books, but this book abuses the idea.

A must-have reference for anyone working with Dynamics AX
I found this book helpful when trying to figure out how to do a variety of development tasks such as debugging, reverse engineering, compiling, etc.The section on the development tools was helpful because it provided a guide on what's available for developers.It's easy to understand and provides some good background information on a lot of the tools and techniques.Very useful for either developers or consultants. ... Delicious!
Once again, Logo Lounge gives the most creative and innovative examples of logos anywhere in an unbelivably organized format. As a graphic designer specializing in logos, I find the Logo Lounge library and website completely indispensible. I enjoyed seeing the judges favorites and definitely have a few of my own. The Portraits and Sketches (profiles of specific designers & agencies, identities and their applications) are always interesting and inspiring but don't overwhelm the book as I like to get straight down to business and dive right into the Collections (zillions of great logo examples). I've been designing and collecting design & logo specific books since the 80's and NEVER have any books inspired me more than these. I don't think you really have to be a designer to enjoy this gallery of artwork, but you may just turn into one! ... Read more

extremely useful
This book covers many aspects of programming the ARM familiy, including a surprisingly thorough discussion on fixed-point DSP computation.
If your company will buy it for you, get it
In the ARM tradition of charging for everything, thefirmware guide by Sloss is easy to read, and comprehensive up to ARM10/StrongARM XScale/926/940.That said, the book looks like the notes from a firmware lecture delivered by an Arm Apps engineer.The book is strongest in coverage of MMU and cache, but weak on ARM11 (1136 only and as a final chapter) and essentially non-existent in Jazelle coverage.Nice features are the toy RTOS which appears early at reappears with more features (memory protection, and MMU, for example).That this book is so quickly out of date brings the point that MDR bulleted last year, that the ARM family needs birth control but that is a topic for another discussion.Sloss' book has 'non-commercial license' for all the sourcecode.huh?Regarding this book, Freescale for example publishes equivalent information (old ESS manuals) in the 860/8260 training manuals for free, on their website.If your company pays for your books, by all means have them get the sloss book for you it makes a great read on the john, but if you are a student or independent developer, you would be as well served by studying the ARM ARM and applicable ARM source code for U-Boot, Redboot and the L4 microkernel, or even Ed Sutter's book, with the added benefit that you would have a license to use the code in your project.

Good condition
It was in the condition the seller had said.It arrived on time.

No Communication
I was not pleased with the service. My book arrive within the time alloted, 7-14 days it arrived the 13th day without the cd's. By then class had started. Emailed the seller about the issue, I never got a reply. Good thing my instructor had extra's.

Brings many things together
I was impressed with this book's unique perspective of blending the business and technical needs into a single focus, and it continued to maintain the human considerations.It does an excellent job of describing how to support business decisions through architecture at a macro level in a style where "the rubber hits the road."
explains the job of a system architect
The authors give the reader detailed and useful suggestions about designing a software system. It should be made clear that this is not a programming book. Coding particulars are at a finer level outside the book's scope.
Finally brings it all together
This is a really great book.Rozanski and Woods bring together in one text the information that is most important to know about software architecture.It is not filled with opinion but is based on research and ideas that have been proven in practice and that are widely accepted in the field.The ideas are straighforward and presented clearly and concisely.As a practicing software architect, author and professor on the subject, this is my recommendation as the first book on software architecture you should purchase for your collection. ...
